Nun excommunicated for approving life-saving abortionFrom CNN's Carol Costello: It was an agonizing decision for all involved. A 27-year-old pregnant patient at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona became gravely ill. Doctors told her unless she aborted her 11-week-old fetus she would likely die. The problem: St. Joseph's is a Catholic hospital and abortions are largely prohibited. Sister Margaret McBride was part of an ethics panel that included doctors that consulted with the young woman. The woman had the procedure and survived. But Sister McBride took some heat. The Phoenix Catholic Diocese, led by Bishop Thomas Olmsted, automatically excommunicated the nun, effectively banning her from participating in the church. |

hello
Hi, sorrowful far vindication of my english, quiescent learning. In aristotelianism entelechy dispatch descriptions. Away any means aeons ago I can I take as given a blog. Yours
Thanks, I've recently been hunting for information about this subject for ages and yours is the best I've discovered so far.
You made a number of nice points there. I did a search on the theme and found nearly all people will consent with your blog.
It is moral to save the life of the mother, and if in doing so, an abortion occurs, it was not 'sought after' as the prime reason for it happening. The prime motive for the operation would be to save the life of the mother.
In an ectopic pregnancy, saving the life of the mother is the reason why most ectopic pregnancies are ended.
What a load of rubbish.
what i can say is that abortion is a sin and it should be deemed illegal by all means ",:
we should ban all forms of abortion because it is not right to kill an unborn child.`-
"life-saving abortion" – is an oxymoron if I've ever heard one.
If my mom had listened to her doctor, I would not be writing this. She was told to abort me or die. Pretty simple choice. Well she was a true pro choice Catholic. She chose MY life over hers. I go to her grave and thank her often for her willingness to die to let me live. Of course, the doctors were a bit off in the timeing of her death. After she suffered through the indignant price of having to bare a mans baby and on top of that a baby boy with her life in jeapordy, she had to endure another 50+ years post delivery until she finally died. GOD knows who will and will not die in all situations. ONLY HE can decice. The rest of us, including moms and doctors have no right to play HIM and murder the most innocent of life. At 11 weeks, guess what, there is a beating heart. This mother and this nun and the staff who committed the abortion, murdered this innocent child. PERIOD.
well the n you should never be forced to have an abortion and I would appose any legislation that told you what you could do with your body.
Think about this, people... Some people in the church would, if they could, pass laws forcing EVERY woman who is in this poor woman's position, to choose death: no abortion, baby and mom both die, and in some scenarios, a husband is left widowed and children already born are left motherless. Their version of God says one thing, and they'd love nothing more than to impose their thinking on others, even if it literally means people die. Thank God for separation of church and state. Next, we need separation of church and hospitals.
But letting an innocent woman (and subsequently her baby) die is perfectly fine...
I generally avoid involving myself in any debates on abortion since they're more or less a waste of energy, but it's quite obvious the bishop (and any supporters of his actions) here is either a mindless party-line-touting drone or completely spineless and unable to stand up for a simple decision that even the most illogical person would make. It's unfortunate nuns are the ones that get bullied in the church as they're usually the ones on the front lines that care more about doing the "right" thing than their bosses do. The Vatican really needs to re-evaluate its moral standings on today's challenging topics as there seems seems to be a growing gap between their positions and those of the masses.
I remember when my sister found out that the intense pain she was in was due to an ectopic pregnancy and my mom rushed over to her house to watch her children and support her as she underwent the procedure to save her life. When mom told her employers (a catholic school) where she was going, the priest started telling her that they had to wait for the tube to rupture and the fetus to expire (and with it a high chance of my sister dying too). Fortunately this horrible "advice" was ignored, my sister survived (less one fallopian tube), and she went on to have another daughter. I remain a Catholic, but I resent how my faith has been taken over by ignorant zealots who ignore the compassionate teachings of Christ and who place no value on the lives of adult women.
Casandra, the people have nothing to do with it? are you kidding? they supposedly represent Jesus Christ. I was Catholic for way to long to understand all that goes with it. I just cannot stand the hypocrisy that accompanies be Catholic. Besides, I am also a gay man, so please tell me what that means to you?
Until men start giving birth themselves and until male clergy have taken med school courses, espec. ob-gyn studies, they should stay the hell out of women's lives and fetal deaths. It's sick enuf that bishops, et al male clergy try to control women when it is the men who get them p.g. in the first place. Now they are trying to control women's health issues in catholic hospitals. Take care of your own back yards, you hypocritical clegy. Remember that god gave women free will and to save one's own life is not your business.
well said
saffrin, when my sister in law had her fourth child the catholic hospital told her she could not have a tubal ligation without her husbands permission and she could not do it while she was there for the birth. Tell me that is not screwed up?
