Sexy nun too far for Lady Gaga?

Lady Gaga appears in costumes resembling a nun's habit in the video "Alejandro."

Tough story to ignore this week, it's one that's making noise across the religious blogosphere.

Lady Gaga's exceptionally long music video (which apparently people still make) "Alejandro" uses a lot of Catholic imagery - including Gaga dressed up as a sexy nun in a shiny red and white habit and eating a rosary.

Another pop star, Katy Perry, had this to say on her Twitter account:

Using blasphemy as entertainment is as cheap as a comedian telling a fart joke.

When Katy Perry, whose big hit is "I Kissed a Girl," tweets that your music video is crossing the line into blasphemy, you may be in trouble.

Perry told a French radio station over the weekend she is a big Gaga fan, but:

I think sometime spirituality and sexuality are separate things, and when you put them together it gets interesting for some people.

until we remember that the "bible" is just a story and was Written how many thousands of years ago by a bunch of men to CONTROL people then..we will never have true freedom. Religion is and will always be a way to Control People! i find it interesting that the ones that are bashing someone are in fact "the christians" Read your Story again! its Simpy a story. I personal am not going to believe something thats how many years old. Go Lady Gaga! makes it yours and make it happen! they are all just bitter because they can't do it. becasue they are scared. False Faith. LOL the irony of it all

Why is this hack relevant? Did Madonna do this stunt back in her day? Or what about Marylin Manson?

If she was mocking Islam, there would already be death threats.

When are we Christians going to learn? Lady Gaga is like my six year old daughter deliberately smacking her lips loudly as she eats to antagonize her brother. She is a prancing, infantile media wh00re. Clearly the whole point it to stir up precisely the “controversy” that it has. She is an idiot, trying to get people to pay attention to her and hopefully sell some CDs. Why do we continually rise to the bait? We should just yawn and ignore her.

Lady Gaga is doing nothing any different that what Madonna during her prime. She is creating controversy and making money off of it.

for the same reasons that I think it was wrong for South Park to display the image of Muhammad(saw), I think it is equally wrong for Gaga to disrespect Catholicism.

Get real. So-called religous people get up in arms over Lady Gaga, but starving and homeless people aren't worth getting upset about. Being a Christian is about treating others with love and kindness, not judging what other people wear.

Remember...she has a stylist, video director and how many other people behind her getting her dressed and telling her what to do...do you really think she thinks of these things herself?? You're giving an artist WAAAYYY too much credit. She "performs"...it's what she's paid to do...

Lady GaGa is just a re-hash of old Madonna songs and videos...

Wondering where originality has gone in our world?

Katy Perry's a fraud, anyway. In two years, no one will hardly remember her. No talent.

No worse than people dressing as priests/nuns for halloween. Being a nun in itself is not sacrosanct and while mocking any profesion is uncool, it is no worse than the s-e-xy nurse or doctor costumes.

It's ridiculous that this is actually a religious issue. She can dress however she wants and who really cares if she has a cross or upside down cross or whatever on her. And all of this back and forth about religion is pretty hilarious. The truth? You can believe in history or you can believe a book metaphorically written by several different people that has changed uncountable times over the years by taking out stories or through language interpretations. Did these people exist in history? Yes. Can a woman spontaneously conceive? NO!!!

She's taken some cues from Madonna, obviously.

I like this outfit more than others, what's the issue here? The Catholic church who makes up more stuff than any other faith that has no reference in the bible anywhere is offended? Deal with your priests and cardinals explicit criminal behavior first, both also made up positions with no reference in the bible.

Why are you people wasting your time on this? To religious people who are offended ... get a life! Get offended at yourselves and the people around you who don't obey Christ. Don't worry about a woman 5,000 miles away. Get offended at hypocrisy ... at those who proclaim Christianity and then do whatever they want. Why are you wasting time on this?!

All you people who are telling Gaga she is "wrong" for this video....turn the channel. Its called freedom of religion, expression, speech... If you dont like it then don't watch it. I dont like watching church on TV but I don't go complaining about it to everyone and anywhere I can. I don't call my satellite provider and tell em to take it off. I just dont turn it to that channel. Its as simple as that. Everyone believes different things. She isn't forcing you to watch anything. Gaga is a brilliant artist...on so many levels.
