Developer behind 'ground zero' Islamic center: 'This is not about the World Trade Center'

[cnn-video url= http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/bestoftv/2010/08/08/chernoff.sharif.intv.cnn%5D

Q: Why not have this center a little further away from the World Trade Center instead of just two blocks right there? There probably wouldn’t be much opposition…

A: This is not about the World Trade Center. This is not about a particular location.

This is about a need that exists within the Lower Manhattan community and its need that exists within the Muslim community to have a community and a cultural center. And it’s pretty hard finding real estate in New York

We should be wary of overt islamophobia, and be careful to single out extremists, such as the Taliban.
    please...

No Islamic mosque needs to be that close to Ground Zero. Period. It will serve no purpose except to remind Americans that Islamics flew planes into our Twin Towers, regardless of claims made by some that NOT ALL Islams are terrorist. When something that horrific happens, and so much death and innocent blood was shed, how could any peace loving people even think of putting a place of worship(Islamic) there??
Let them go someplace else. If they really are as peaceful as claimed. A little child never made it to Disneyland that day, as she and her mother were both blown to bits by some Islamic Terrorists who decided to snuff out her little life. Pathetic! There were many killed that day, not ONE deserved to die at the hands of these deviates.
How can anyone NOT understand that we are angry about what happened to us? Some choose to label people with opposition to this as bigots and racists, etc. Thats what they want to think, let them.
We may forgive what happened, but we better not forget! Watch out America...Be Vigilant!!

In the Muslim tradition, there is also an incident when an adulteress is brought before the prophet Muhammed as he was in the oasis of Khaybar. Sonic Jews brought before him a woman caught in the act of adultery. They asked him what they should do, so he called for a copy of the Torah. Since the Torah formally stated that the adulteress should be stoned, he ordered her to be stoned. In Islam, obedience to the Law comes before everything.

This is for Alam, who said show me where Mohammed every hurt a woman
I have tried to post this 3 times, in it is not taking....so if multiple post appears, that is why.

    @Alam You said:
Show me a verse from Quran or from the sayings or traditions of the Prophet, where he has himself or any of his companions have committed any mistreatment or incited any hatred against women .We as Americans are very short-sighted and especially stereotype, very eager to jump on decisions and judgements.

Here is one:In the Muslim tradition, there is also an incident when an adulteress is brought before the prophet Muhammed as he was in the oasis of Khaybar. Sonic Jews brought before him a woman caught in the act of adultery. They asked him what they should do, so he called for a copy of the Torah. Since the Torah formally stated that the adulteress should be stoned, he ordered her to be stoned. In Islam, obedience to the Law comes before everything.

Similarly, Jesus also faced a woman caught in Adultery, here is what he did:
While Jesus was teaching at the temple, the Pharisees brought before Him a woman caught in adultery, and they inquired of Jesus what they should do in order to test Him and find grounds to accuse Him. They reminded Him that the Law of Moses calls for the stoning of such women. This was a classic trap. The Law is formal: it calls for stoning. Jesus did not contradict the law nor approve of the sin. On the one hand, He is scornful of the accusers, who are filled with pride, and says to them: “Let him who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” And He watched them leave in silence. On the other hand, Jesus calls sin sin and evil evil when he told the woman to sin no more (John 8:1–11

He let her go and told her to sin no more!

As a Non – American and as someone from a country with a considerable muslim population, i tell this to my Islamoignorant people of the Western countries. "You will have a lesser task of keeping islam out than dealing with it once it is there. Please take sometime to study the islam monster. Islam is not some other form of Christianityas some would think and the Name 'Cordoba' is used in this project to fool the predominatly islamoignorant America. Wake up America before it is too late! If you keep sleeping the Islam bug will have infiltrated the US army and divulge all nuclear secrets to the islamic imperialists abroad who will use it to plan a bigger 'september 11'. Please Americans wake up and do so now". IT IS NEVER TOO LATE!

No one here has the right to say no to this project. The people that do have that right have already spoken with approval. Had they built this Moqsue anywhere else on manhattan there still would be objections from naysayers. It seems like no matter what American Muslims do it'll never be enough, or far way enough, or good enough to be seen as equals in this country. Yet whatever bombs we drop, wherever we mass murder, and pillage for resources , we can justify it through our need for liberating non-democratic countries and fighting terrorism? It just doesn't make any sense.

There are Muslims who support other faiths, who don't mind living between synagogues and churches. Simply because they know theres good in all religions. They even make time to include us in their prayers because they're afraid that there are hard times ahead of us to come worse than now. And they wish no harm be done on another person because they understand war and it's consequences.

I don't make much money so easy to say the lines of good and evil have more or less been the difference between rich and poor. But this incident reminded me there's hope. And I intend to send whatever resources I can to help support this mosque come to light. I hope everyone comes forward to build this bridge between nations.. A bridge that we have much need for that isn't built through pipelines of black oil for a change. – PEACE

In Islam they are required to build a mosque on the site after they conquer an enemy. and that is exactly what they are trying to do.

Why are comments on this blog not put in chronological order? I just added a comment, August 9 4:54 PM and it was inserted as being posted on August 8 at 4:54 PM. This happens much too frequently on this blog.
