Feds: Nun pleads guilty to embezzling $850,000

A Catholic nun pleaded guilty Thursday to embezzling $850,000 from a college in the New York City suburbs, the U.S. Southern District Attorney's Office announced in a press release.

Sister Marie E. Thornton, a 63 year-old nun, embezzled over $850,000 from Iona College starting in 1999, while functioning as its vice president of finance, the statement said.

"This is a classic case of the fox guarding the hen house," Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said. "Marie Thornton was entrusted with the financial well-being of Iona College, but instead, she abused her access to cook the books and line her own pockets."

According to the statement from U.S. attorney, Thornton diverted funds for personal use by submitting false vendor invoices and personal expense bills to be reimbursed by the school.

Communist? You've resorted to calling me a communist? Hunny, I work for a major wall street firm. I'm also the son and brother of military vets. Are you 12?

Wow! Luke, stop! Do you want a medal, or a chest to pin it on?
You don't work for no major wall street firm....i(f you do, you are a crook right, lol)? But, fact is..you don't. You work for a trucking company, and unload boxes and take inventory. I have known you far too long, and in another forum you said what you really do! LOL...you are such a BS'er!

Another thing is..you exert sucnh a "tough guy" stance on this blog, when it reality you are a known flamer/..you even said as much. One who likes to get his kicks, "taking apart" the system.

You should be proud of your family as vets. Thats about as far as patriotism and you can connect.
Sheesh, man...you never fail to kick yourself where the sun don't shine, now do you?

More evidence that the following is coming sooner than we think:

Recognizing the flaws, follies and frauds in the foundations of Islam, Judaism and Christianity by the "bowers", kneelers" and "pew peasants" will converge these religions into some simple rules of life. No koran, bible, clerics, nuns, monks, imams, evangelicals, ayatollahs, rabbis, professors of religion or priests needed or desired.

Ditto for houses of "worthless worship" aka mosques, churches, basilicas, cathedrals, temples or synagogues.--

Thank you for your intelligent reply. Not that many will listen. Your heart, and more importantly, your mind, are in the right place.

Sweet, now that you guys have abolished God, we can start worshiping ourselves. We are such a perfect race of beings...

You do see the irony of this scenario right? People always choose to believe in something. You take away all religion, new ones will be started. It's just the way it is. It doesn't matter if we have religion or if we don't, we will always have greed, conflict and sorrow within every facet of our race. Which means we will always have thieves, dictators, wars and murder. WE ARE THE PROBLEM.

Everything in this world that was created with good intentions is also constantly affected by the self-destructive nature of humanity. Wake up from your dream world guys.

Doug there has never been gods looking after us. We are where we are because of ourselves anyway. we have always lived in a "godless" world. so nothing should change except that the money wasted on religion could be funneled back into more productive pursuits. Why would we worship ourselves? that is a religious mindset .

When I was a kid nuns would smack the top of my hands to punish me, why, I don't know. So needless to say I did not like nuns very much, still don't. I never could figure out what nuns were for, except smacking kids. I know this nun knows she did wrong, now its time to pay the price.

So right! We ALL know that Protestant clergy NEVER pilfer money from their congregations or live lavish lifestyles. There IS that thing called the "Reformation" of course, during which Protestants stole church buildings, monastery buildings, convents, etc. for their own use, but hey, people hardly remember that little faux pas!
