(CNN) – Flamboyant fashion designer John Galliano was found guilty Thursday on charges of making anti-Semitic comments against at least three people in a Paris cafe.
The French court gave him a suspended fine of 6,000 euros ($8,415) but he was not sentenced to jail time. The plaintiffs were awarded one symbolic euro each. Aurelien Hamelle, Galliano's lawyer, told CNN he was not surprised by the verdict.
He said the designer was happy it was all over and wants to put the whole episode behind him. Galliano was not present at the trial because he didn't want to face the media, his lawyer added.
The French should imprison those who make anti-Christian comments.
I hate religion, I just HATE it.
They disgust me, and make me laugh at them SO much.
Westerners without religion = perverts. All of them.
Man. Poor Zoolander got the shaft.
I, for one, am glad this is over. You can see my comments and sentiments below, but what impresses me here is how French court really does not tolerate this kind of behavior. http://bit.ly/pP0pKj
I can find no where in the bible Where Jesus called his disciples to hate any one, He taught to forgive your those who hate you and to bless them that attack you. the exact words are in Matthew 5:44 " But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you and pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you." I am so sorry that the name of Jesus has been used by some Christians to further there own selfish desires. We who are followers of the teachings in the bible spend so much time not doing what the Lord clearly teaches. To the world I say stop hating each other and do good help those in need, feed people who are hungry, do good to all you meet, Jesus never spoke out against any one except to the religious people at that time and it is not any different now ! From Gods perspective we all are guilty of crimes against GOD and man. I pray that all people stop and think does hate, greed, selfishness solve any thing?
And to the Christians ? can you really say that you are walking in the truth, when you lie cheat and steal or act like the world around you? we are called to be a light but yet we are no different that the rest of the world, is it any wonder the world see you as hypocrites Does not the Jesus warn about the "yeast of the Pharisees" in Luke 12:1 Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees which is hypocrisy!
its amazing that europe scrams about a gay guy saying drunk not really anti semetic stuff. He never said anything directly at jewishness. Yet, all the European nations do nothing to convict radical muslim clerics protesting and rioting in the streets over whatever minuscule thing upsets them. Muslims literally get installed Sharia in European courts and yet European liberals do nothing but they can go after a drunk fashion designer. Such nonsense.
I'd like to have his schweddy balls across nose.
How christian-like of you.
The above HeavenSent is a fake.
Jews, read the Bible. You are only safe and sound when you listen to God. Men cannot harm you in ultimate sense no matter what they con-spire against you, as the Psalms say. It's your unbelief in your Messiah Jesus that is the real problem for you until the end of the world. Trust God in His way. Accept your Messiah who suffered for YOU.
Chinese Proverb says: Quarreling is like cutting water with a sword
Seek and share wisdom, do not hack at the water, my child.
Jesus was a Jew you idiot
Quite so, Clay. He even insisted that the Old Testament laws be obeyed. It was Paul who reinvented Jesus' followers to allow non-Jews. Paul changed a lot of other things, too. Thomas Jefferson called him the "first corrupter of Christianity."
@Yes-indeed: You are wrong. Jesus said that He finished the Jewish Bible though we are to still keep the moral laws of Moses and that He came to save all mankind(the Jews are included), and He told His disciples to make all nations His disciples. Peter and Paul simply obeyed Jesus. American Fathers' occasional trash comments are American problems. American illiteracy on the Bible is America's most serious problem.
Sorry, it was Jesus that came for all and it was Jesus that specifically said He was the stumbling block to the Jews.
Jesus said that He is the Corner Stone that builders(Jews) have rejected. Among all others, He fulfilled most of the Psalms in the Jewish Bible.
"Jesus said that He is the Corner Stone that builders(Jews) have rejected.
- Did he say that?... or did a group of 1st century evangelists promoting their new religious cult, *say* that he said it?
"Among all others, He fulfilled most of the Psalms in the Jewish Bible.
- Jesus (if he existed) and all of the writers of the gospels read (or knew about) those predictions. It's real easy to write up stories proclaiming their fulfillment.
@Real Deal: The world history proved Jesus is indeed the Corner Stone, the One and Only. Read the Book of Daniel. The timing of Jesus' birth is humanly speaking impossible to fulfill. The Jewish Bible is full of the prophesies of the coming Messiah and we have this historic Figure called Jesus of Nazareth who affects the entire world ever since His birth. Muslims and Hindus respect Jesus, that means 80-90% Earthlings adhere Him except the Jews and Western atheists.
You must know that the dating of writing of the Book of Daniel is highly disputed, and even if you take the earlier date, the predictions are unclear... and besides that, the NT writers would have known the time was ripe to fulfill Daniel and took advantage of it.
I'll bet that more than 80-90% of the world knows about and likes Coca-Cola - promotion works wonders.
@Real Deal: Way before the time of Jesus, the Jewish canon was complete. I hope you know what you are talking about. Besides numerous shadowing, Jesus fulfilled more than 300 prophesies written ALL OVER the Jewish Bible, not just a single book or two. It's a sheer miracle and providence of God.
The world says no thanks to Coca-Cola because it made Americans obese. And you should stop drinking but start reading.
Ah, and we come full-circle to my original statement: "– Jesus (if he existed) and all of the writers of the gospels read (or knew about) those predictions. It's real easy to write up stories proclaiming their fulfillment."
You are quite obtuse.
Carla, you are tragically misinformed.
Jesus stated that every letter of the law will be followed. The law includes the old testament. He chastised people for not following JEWISH law. You REALLY need to do some research. And people wonder why christians are so despised. You don't even know what it is you're supposed to do, yet you preach this horrid drivel constantly, yammering on about something you know nothing about.
Oh, and Carla... jesus promised his followers (while he was alive, to his living followers) that he would return before some of them died.
He never returned.
He will never return.
You believe in something that does not exist, and never will happen.
You talk of prophesies that jesus allegedly fulfilled. I find humor in this. Soeone could write a book with predictions. I can then take that book, and write a book about someone that made these predictions come true. Does that mean either book is suddenly true? Absolutely not. That's exactly what the bible is. It's an unfinished book (the bible itself reference books that were not included within the bible) that was terribly written by people high on drugs. It's full of contradictions, hate, murder and all kinds of horrible things.
Furthermore, the new testament was written by people who believed in Greek mythology which can easily be seen by the description of satan, as well as hell itself, which is in fact a Greek mythology creation.
Carla, you have lots to learn, child.
@Kyle: You are confused. Jesus fulfilled all the ritual Laws but we are to keep the moral Laws of Moses. His main three disciples did see His future glory and one of them saw the Kingdom itself exactly as Jesus said so. No, Peter said Jesus' coming could be a couple of thousands years later. Read the Bible, the Epistles of Peter 1 & 2. Atheists and non-believers' knowledge on the Bible is ALWAYS wrong.
Jews, monitor blasphemy instead of anti-Semitic remarks. You are invincible anyway, but live for the honor of God instead of your own safety. Nowadays, too many Earthlings are speaking against Americans not Jews. This human world is really screwed.
Chinese Proverb says: A filthy mouth will not utter decent language.
Only screwdriver may call something, "screwed" my child.
Doesn't "screwed" mean something went wrong twisted? Does it have a hidden meaning? My dictionary doesn't mention anything.
Chinese Proverb says: Donkey's lips do not fit onto a horse's mouth.
You must be a westerner to properly use western words. Speak from your heart, not anger, my child.
"Screw" can mean a number of things.
As a noun, it is a spirally grooved solid cylinder. Second definition is the act of twisting said "screw" into another object (i.e. to screw it into the board) thus fastening it.
Colloquially, it can mean either messed up (i.e. "This table is all screwed up!")
Lastly, and the most common usage, it means to fornicate.
Damian, thank you!! I never knew about the last meaning. This is original CrystalRiver and original Carla. My names keep being hijacked. @Car-ruh, My English is ESL but I keep learning and I love the Jews.
Interesting the "state" made $8k off it and gave each person 1. LOL So the "State" is riding the backs of the jews to make money.
Obviously, the topic designer has never taken a course in evolution. If he had, he would have learned the following:
As per National Geographic's Genographic project:
" DNA studies suggest that all humans today descend from a group of African ancestors who about 60,000 years ago began a remarkable journey. Follow the journey from them to you as written in your genes”.
"Adam" is the common male ancestor of every living man. He lived in Africa some 60,000 years ago, which means that all humans lived in Africa at least at that time.
Unlike his Biblical namesake, this Adam was not the only man alive in his era. Rather, he is unique because his descendents are the only ones to survive. "
Hahaha as if some fashion model could EVER make waves with anti-semitic remarks! The next thing you'll tell me is that some Austrian artist would–wait, that did happen...
*designer, not model.
Thank God for free speech on this side of the pond. Half of the people who blog here on CNN would be in jail, given the idiotic standard they are employing in this case.
I'd probably end up in a cell with HeavenSent and Herbert Juarez!!!
LOL...!!! No, you'd be with Adelina/fairgarden ! Actually, I think it would be your "Top 10 lists" that might not go over so well.
Even though, we love 'em here on the belief blog ! :D
Hey dude, that's right. Do you think fairgarden would joinn the Bloods or the Crypts? lol
LOL... I don't know, but I think we should ask her next time. See what 'colors' she's flyin'...! LOL...! :D
Colin, you would be lucky to meet me but, being put in a cell is not what I strive for. Therefore, we shall never meet if that's where you are headed.
I'll bake you a cake.
heavensent: "Colin, you would be lucky to meet me "
Wow....self centered much?
One thing nice about the West is they crack down anti-Semitism. They should do that to blasphemies as well. The humanist West worships humans but not God and gets justice by the God of Israel.
Aren't blasphemies God's domain and not man's? If anything we should leave it for God to decide, not us. As for the anti-Semitism, history has taught us that such remarks can lead to some very unpleasant events.
@Theist, when calamity hits, it hits the society collectively. Christians must work against society's evil practices. Germany lost 7 million men by leaving alone their blasphemy. Refusal to fight against evil is a form of evil.
Chinese Proverb says: Do not remove a fly from your friend's forehead with a hatchet.
You are removing fly with chainsaw, my child.
A Jewish proverb says: Speak to the fools in their own fashion so they'll know how stupid they are. I'm doing the utmost favor to American atheists.
Chinese Proverb says: He who treads softly goes far.
You will not go far with such heavy stomping, my child.
Proverb 26:5 says, "Answer a fool according to his folly, or he will be wise in his own eyes."
Also read Ephesians 4, "Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of Him who is the head, that is, Christ. From Him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work."
I mean, the Chinese proverbs are all fine, but China never changed the world for good being simple-minded just like the rest of the non-West by having no Bible for the longest time. With 0.1 billion Christians today, the climate is changing.
This the second (or 3rd) time that he has made anti-Semitic comments
And now this millionaire just gets a small fine that he doesn't even need to pay?
Quite obviously money talks
The idiot even looks like Hitler in profile. Stupid mustache and everything. He belongs in a cage.
From that pic, Galliano looks like a guy that smells like a combination of alcohol, bad cologne, puke, and 'santorum'.
Shame they haven't heard of freedom of speech.
France has a lot of different laws. Many stars (such as Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp) spend a good deal of time there because the laws regarding paparazzi are so strict. Also, isn't France the one that banned Muslims from wearing the burqa?
You are correct...RE: France-burqa.
France's speech laws prohibit a few things.
You can't say anything that is likely to incite hatred based on race, religion or se.xual orientation – nor can you make any statements that may incite people to take drugs.
Holocaust denial is also a crime.
American laws are the most liberal in the world when it comes to freedom of speech.
Yours is the only country that decided anti-hate speech laws violate the principles of freedom of expression.
However- Noam Chomsky, Ice-T and Jello Biafra might beg to differ....
Good morning Doc !
I love your combo... Chomsky, Ice-T, and Biafra. :D
You are right the anti-hate speech laws violate the principles of freedom of expression, however we still do enforce our own hate crime laws, which I'm happy to say are doing a solid job. You might be able to go into public with a microphone and start yelling racial epithets, but right as you committ a crime, any crime, hate crime laws come into effect that will make the punishment much more severe.
Laughing, by convincing yourself of that does not make it true.
"Laughing, by convincing yourself of that does not make it true."
Awesome, now use this logic and apply it to your religion.
Convincing myself of what exactly? Sure Americans protect their freedom of speech moreso than just about everyone else on the planet. Are you talking about enforcing Hate Crime laws? well we could be doing a better job, but we have to be certain it falls into the category of a hate crime, which can be difficult to identify.
Claybigsby also has a solid point, if you want to keep believing in god, thats fine, but just because you stamp your feet, insist he's real and hold up a 2,000 year old book as proof does not in anyway verify some of your absurd beliefs.
....... by convincing yourself of that does not make it true.
HeavenSent for once in your life put aside your ego and look in the mirror and repeat.
