(CNN) - Newt Gingrich stepped up his efforts to appeal to evangelical Christian voters in Iowa Monday by promising in writing to "defend and strengthen the family."
Gingrich, who has been married three times, specifically said he would "uphold the institution of marriage through personal fidelity to my spouse and respect for the marital bonds of others."
Gingrich made the pledge to The Family Leader, a socially conservative group based in Iowa. The organization has its own Marriage Pledge that other 2012 White House hopefuls have signed, including Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Minnesota Rep.

Cain drops in polls, numbers go to other man, both (shall I say three) of them experienced the same
thing in the nineties . No more please, we can do it.An ex adulterer in the oval office and a first lady who had an affair with a married man. These type of persons will be making history that will be read by our children and granchildren a century later .Is this the kind of role model that we want our children see? Hypocracy is the buzz word here.
Protect our children. They are not political ( pandering, expediency, etc), and they need a God fearing leader in the white house as their role model.
The only marriage Gingrich and all other " RICH or WELL OFF " people are trying my stronger, is the marriage
to their money.
Anything for a buck or a vote , right Newt?
Dear God that I don't believe in.... Republicans are truly a stupid delusional bunch.
TRASH ALERT – don't bother viewing this garbage, click the report abuse link to get rid of the pathetic TROLL!
I'm really mad! My wife had me convinced the wedding vows included the pledge of fidelity. I didn't know this required a second pledge. Use to be, the Catholics took the marriage vows pretty serious. I guess that was before all the happy endings with the altar boys. Christianity sure isn't like when I was a lad. People actually thought "The Imitation of Christ" was a pretty good book.
Gingrich is as slimy as he ever was. His contracts with America, are a joke. None of the GOP are worth voting for. They are scu_m, who care nothing for the p_oor or the aged.
Gingrich doesn't want to attack other candidates, not because he is a good person, but because the other candidates have so much ammunition.
These candidates supposedly represent Christianity, but you never hear them quote Jesus on the rich or the p_oor. Instead they quote Paul. Did Paul die for man's sins? I missed that, I guess.
If Gingrich thought being a Muslim would benefit his fight for the White House, he would run around with a bruised forehead, to prove his devotion.
Consider what the Republicans are advocating. Consider what is important to them ($). Then ask yourself what Jesus– the one you are supposed to be following– would do. Would Jesus applaud Rick Perry for sending all those people to their death? Is Perry and all those who applauded, without sin? Even if the death penalty is needed, it should not be applauded. I bet Jesus vomits when these people pray.
Would Jesus think allowing a man to die, because he lacked insurance, to be in keeping with His parable about the Good Samaritan? I can't really see Jesus saying: "Well done!" to people who allowed their brother to suffer and die, because he lacked money / insurance.
Hmm... Will anyone be able to tell the difference between the applauding born again Christians and the atheists in hell?
A lady stopped me in the parking lot at Wal-Mart. She said she needed money for diapers. I don't carry cash, so I told the woman I would go back in the store and get her $20.00. Yeah, I know. I'm a big spender. And, I could have bought the diapers and not given money. But, that is not the story.
I went back in the store and went back through the fast check out line, that I had gone through originally. I picked up a pack of gum and requested $20.00 cash back. The cashier remembered me and commented that it looked like I had forgotten to get my cash earlier. I explained to her about the woman and said I hoped she wasn't telling me a lie.
The cashier said something that made me think. She told me not to worry about it. That Jesus knew. It wasn't my job to judge.
Smart lady. She was a Dem. and a Christian.
The Republicans serve two masters: The Rich and The Christian Right. I doubt Jesus knows either of them.
I seem to remember the one about Newt asking his wife for a divorce when she was in the oncology ward. Newt's fidelity issues are the reason he clammed up during the Clinton impeachment. Now he's wrapping himself up with the Christian right... I think I'll throw up.
As a Catholic myself I forgive Mr. Gingrich, that is what I am supposed to do and I hope that he and Calista will be very happy and have a long and faithful marriage. However, past behavior is a predictor of future behavior, and as his prospective employer, I refuse to use my tax dollars to subsidize his jewelry binges at Tiffany's and his irresponsible bomb throwing...He may have a lower testosterone level, but he is still hateful, corrupt and vile in so many other way, so I choose not to be his employer....he is not worthy to be the President of the United States
As a catholic, you are a delusional moron who supports pedophilia.
God help us all if such gets the President!
I swear, this time it's for real. I've sworn before, but that was the old me. The new me really means it this time. I know I said I really meant it those other times, but things were different then.
Now, take a bath and get to work, you filthy hippies.
I think I found out who CA really is :-) this sound far too much like 'it' not be real and even if it's not, enjoy the laugh...not sure if this is a POE's page or not but entertaining and wrong no matter what.
Canadian World Domination!
I laffed at the comments and how all the psycho christards were getting all the thumbs down on their own website! Priceless!
When canada is annexed, it will be because the canadian qu eers ,who cannot reproduce die out. We then will simply push the pakis aside and take over. It will be a slam dunk. We will still leave the country of canada with the land north of james bay and the nwt, but we will take all the mineral rights.
Har. How is it gays, Canadian or otherwise, have been around since the dawn of time, and make up about the same percentage of the population they always have? Why haven't they already "died out", you moron?
Tommie Tantrum the Troll is trolling around the blogs and pretending to be all sophisticated and intelligent here. Funny funny.
Some canadians speak english, some canadians speak french but they all speak qu eer.
Poor captain ass hole. "Poor captain's in the closet. Let him out, let him out, let him out. Poor captain's in the closet. Let him out, let him out let him out! My God, he can't breathe in there! My God, he can't breathe in there! Poor captain's in the closet. Let him out, let him out, let him out!"
(To the tune of Mozart's Symphony # 40.)
No one wants to talk to tom tom anymore since he/she is just a name thief.
You do. You must be terribly lonely since your girlfriend sprang that leak, captain dufus.
It's interesting to hear Newt pledge fidelity...like it's something so special, so vital this time around...and for politics sake... while on his 3rd marriage.....so convenient to do it this time when cheating was in his best interest the other two times. I don't have to forgive him and I have just enough brain cells not to believe him either. From ethics violations to adultery....why is he ahead in the polls? I'd pick Mitt Romney for decency, fidelity and honesty '10,000' times before I'd vote for Newt Gingrich.
Just like he promised in front of god to be faithful till death do them part, when he married his first wife.. and then second.. and then third..
why do people want to be good lil sheep and believe his current pledge then?
Thank goodness, finaly, someone who is willing to promise not to cheat on their wives or fool around while in the Whitehouse. I'm so glad that politicians are known for keeping their promises after they are elected, and that such a mundane behavior as personal fidelity would be announced even though most find no need for it since being a Christian and being married imply fidelity, but it's not the same until you say the words...
Going way back to see some early thinking about adu-ltery:
The Code of Hammurabi- 1792–1750 BC
"If she had been a bad wife, the Code allowed him to send her away, while he kept the children and her dowry; or he could degrade her to the position of a slave in his own house, where she would have food and clothing. She might bring an action against him for cruelty and neglect and, if she proved her case, obtain a judicial separation, taking with her her dowry.
No other punishment fell on the man. If she did not prove her case, but proved to be a bad wife, she was drowned. If she were left without maintenance during her husband's involuntary absence, she could co-habit with another man, but must return to her husband if he came back, the children of the second union remaining with their own father. If she had maintenance, a breach of the marriage tie was adultery. Wilful desertion by, or exile of, the husband dissolved the marriage, and if he came back he had no claim on her property; possibly not on his own."
Hmmm, there appears to be a lot of Judaism and Islam in this Old Code. Plagiarized? Hmmm, probably!!!
See added comparisons at "Comparing the content of
Hammurabi's Code, Mosaic Law, and Justinian Law"
" If a man and woman were caught in adultery, Hammurabi and Moses decreed that both man and woman be put to death. (i.e. "Billy Boys" had short life spans in the good old days!!!!!) Each set of laws also prohibited a man from having more than one wife at a time. In addition, Justinian and Biblical law required parental consent for any marriage. "
going to forward thinking hit report abuse on reality bull sh it
