Got a question for Oliver Stone’s son on his Muslim conversion?

Got a question for famed director Oliver Stone’s son, who reportedly converted to Islam last week in Iran?

Sean Stone, 27 and also a filmmaker, will be on CNN Newsroom Wednesday during the 1 PM ET hour. Post a question in comments and we may ask it during the interview.

The son of Oscar-winning director converted to Islam last week in a ceremony in central Iran, a national news agency reported.

Sean Stone became a Shiite Muslim in the city of Esfahan Tuesday and chose Ali as his new Islamic name, the semi-official Fars News Agency reported.

"The conversion to Islam is not abandoning Christianity or Judaism, which I was born with," Stone told Fars News Agency. "It means I have accepted Mohammad and other prophets."

He did not say why he converted.

Stone has collaborated on his father's projects. His father is Jewish and his mother, Christian.

Oliver Stone directed "Platoon," "Born on the Fourth of July" and "JFK."

I dont understand why someone should be stigmatized for choosing a different path, if he wants to be a muslim then good on him, what right do we have to sit there and judge him? no one has the authority to do that.

My question is, what made you want to convert to Islam? and how has this changed you as a person?

its islam's simplicity. once you acknowledge there is only one god, and that muhammad, jesus, abraham, adam, jacob, isaac, joseph, ismael, david, noah, solomon, are all prophets of god, then you are a muslim. its teaching can follow after this acknowledgement. you can take it slow at your own pace, like prayers, fasting, charity, hajj. no rush.

Sean Stone: do you personally feel that Islam has it right regarding the place and proper behavior of women?

    4:34
Men are in charge of women, because Allah hath made the one of them to excel the other, and because they spend of their property (for the support of women). So good women are the obedient, guarding in secret that which Allah hath guarded. As for those from whom ye fear rebellion, admonish them and banish them to beds apart, and scourge them. Then if they obey you, seek not a way against them. Lo! Allah is ever High, Exalted, Great.

Hmmm. I suppose its kinda hard for a westerner to understand this!! Where women support men with their wealth. So, technically, in the Western world, Jesus? has made women "excel over men" as they not only bring home the dough, they also give birth to the children and pay strangers to raise them while they are at work. Clearly, there is a stark difference of role models in the Qur'anic and the Western worldview.

When is that said by Jesus, but in Islam Mohammad stated that "women lack intelligence and faith"
How about marrying girls at age of 6-9 y.o. is not it Sunna and following Mohammad lifestyle as a model.

      February 22, 2012 at 5:22 pm |
    • B(iraq) Hussein Osama

Whatever the Prophet of Islam did, he did in an honorable way. If he wanted to marry a 9 year old or a 6 year old, he went up to the parents and asked for the hand of the maiden in marriage. Unlike most christians today, who sleep with each other in dishonorable fashion, only to leave behind a trail of unwed mothers and unhappy family and a state bearing most of the responsibility of their own se xual actions.

So, one could say that Mohammad was more christian than most of the so-called christians who criticize him today!! He had honor, which like i said, the christian world has replaced with something more like bone r.

How could you state today that you don't know what the Iranian President thinks about the Holocaust when he is on the record, perhaps even hundreds of time, declaring his doubt that it ever happened. Given your Jewish roots, are you aware that if you were living in Germany at the time of HItler, you and your entire family would have been sent to the camps – even your Gentile mother simply for bearing children with a Jew.

Iranian President is just another corrupt politician like Bush, Romney, Obama and the entire US Government and governments around the world. He does not necessarily reflect the intellectual thought in Iranian society.

    • Reality

Dear People of Iran and all other Muslims around the globe,

-- from the studies of Armstrong, Rushdie, Hirsi Ali, Richardson and Bayhaqi-–

The Five Steps To Deprogram 1400 Years of Islamic Myths:
( –The Steps take less than two minutes to finish- simply amazing, two minutes to bring peace and rationality to over one billion lost souls- Priceless!!!)

      Are you ready?

Using "The 77 Branches of Islamic "faith" a collection compiled by Imam Bayhaqi as a starting point. In it, he explains the essential virtues that reflect true "faith" (iman) through related Qur’anic verses and Prophetic sayings." i.e. a nice summary of the Koran and Islamic beliefs.

The First Five of the 77 Branches:

      "1. Belief in Allah"

aka as God, Yahweh, Zeus, Jehovah, Mother Nature, etc. should be added to your self-cleansing neurons.

"2. To believe that everything other than Allah was non-existent. Thereafter, Allah Most High created these things and subsequently they came into existence."

Evolution and the Big Bang or the "Gi-b G-nab" (when the universe starts to recycle) are more plausible and the "akas" for Allah should be included if you continue to be a "crea-tionist".

"3. To believe in the existence of angels."

A major item for neuron cleansing. Angels/de-vils are the mythical creations of ancient civilizations, e.g. Hitt-ites, to explain/define natural events, contacts with their gods, big birds, sudden winds, protectors during the dark nights, etc. No "pretty/ug-ly wingy thingies" ever visited or talked to Mohammed, Jesus, Mary or Joseph or Joe Smith. Today we would classify angels as f–airies and "tin–ker be-lls". Modern de-vils are classified as the de-mons of the de-mented.

"4. To believe that all the heavenly books that were sent to the different prophets are true. However, apart from the Quran, all other books are not valid anymore."

Another major item to delete. There are no books written in the spirit state of Heaven (if there is one) just as there are no angels to write/publish/distribute them. The Koran, OT, NT etc. are simply books written by humans for humans.

Prophets were invented by ancient scribes typically to keep the un-educated masses in line. Today we call them for-tune tellers.

Prophecies are also invali-dated by the natural/God/Allah gifts of Free Will and Future.

"5. To believe that all the prophets are true. However, we are commanded to follow the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)
      alone."
Mohammed spent thirty days "fasting" (the Ramadan legend) in a hot cave before his first contact with Allah aka God etc. via a "pretty wingy thingy". Common sense demands a neuron deletion of #5. #5 is also the major source of Islamic vi-olence i.e. turning Mohammed's "fast, hunger-driven" hallu-cinations into horrible reality for unbelievers.

Walk these Five Steps and we guarantee a complete recovery from your Islamic ways!!!!

Unfortunately, there are not many Muslim commentators/readers on this blog so the "two-minute" cure is not getting to those who need it. If you have a Muslim friend, send him a copy and help save the world.

Analogous steps are available at your request for deprogramming the myths of Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Paganism..

      To Reality:

Moslems continue to blatantly lie about their intentions to take over the world, and you can see it as jamal writes that some people have become good ambassadors about Islam to America. They want to take over America, and they will lie about it. They want to have the freedom to say all their hate talk about Christians and Jews, even talk about killing us, and then deny it baldly when asked about it. Egypt many years ago clearly said they want to drive all the Jews into the sea. And the freedoms the Moslems take advantage of here in America, they refuse to grant to others in their Moslem countries. Jews are not allowed to live in Saudi Arabia. Jews who live in other Moslem countries were not allowed to build their own houses of worship, they were kicked out of those countries after their property was taken away from them, they were thrown in jail and tortured, and all this simply because they were Jewish. Ongoing underground Moslem abuse of our freedom of religion takes advantage of our openness and naivete. Americans have to stop being naive, and start being vigilant about their freedoms.

Becoming a Muslim is turning your back on Christianity. He should have known this before converting and shooting his mouth off. Christians believe Jesus is Lord. Muslims believe Jesus was a profit but not devine. You can not hold one belief without dropping the other. Its that simple, and so is he.

Mr. Stone, I am an Iranian Muslim married to an American Catholic and have respect for all other religions. I am sure with your background; you also have respect for other religions. The politics of Israeli and Palestinian conflict over land and other forced wars in the region have placed a stigma on Muslims overall. I hope that your acceptance of Islam will help uplift the moderate Muslims that are good citizens of this County. What are your thoughts on the subject?

Who cares if he accepted Islam the truth is we shouldnt be declaring war on Islam and thats what this country has been doing for the last 10 years. and you see it more so when it comes to Barack Obama the republican moralist believe he is attacking religion which he has not, believes he is a muslim which he clearly is not.
our Nation has disgusted me over the last few years it just shows how much hate this Nation happens to have and the funny thing is look at the people this is coming from they speak of Morals, yet support Illegal wars, Follow a Nazi Pope, look at who they were voting for recently, Herman Cain and Gingrich and these people have the nerve to talk about Morals?

One thing I will say Sean Stone went to a Nation and found out first hand what its people were about something that not many Americans are doing, how many of our politicians have gone over there to try and bridge the gap to prevent war? we need more open minded people like that as the far right will only lead us to an end

Sure we should. It has declared war on all other religions and those who refuse to convert to Islam. They are a religion that condones the killing of Christians and Jews. They are a religion of intolerance. Just look at the Christian minister in Iran who is going to be put to death for his Christian faith, unless he gives it up and converts to Islam. They send death squads out to kill individuals and their families if they speak out in a negative way against Allah or Mohammad. Their intent is on one world religion-Islam. They are spreading out in numbers, building numerous mosques and expanding the arm of Islam. You need to read up on this religion and their real purpose.

"Open Minds" = Tolerance= Societal and moral destruction.

      February 22, 2012 at 1:33 pm |
    • Helen

Every religion at some point in time has had the intent of conversion, Christianity still does. Separation of church and state is an enlightened idea but relatively new and by no means universal. Europe used to be dominated by theocracies and look only to the various inquisitions to understand the price of alternative ideas during that time. Respect for a nation's culture and religion means respect for beliefs and laws. I don't think Iran is a place for a Christian, particularly considering that one of the roles of a christian minister is to convert others.

      February 22, 2012 at 2:03 pm |
    • B(iraq) Hussein Osama

America has nt declared war on Islam. I dono where you got that from. Our president was virtually on his knees kissing the Saudi king's but t, not that long ago, to show we are not at war with Islam.

We are fighting oil wars to control the supply of world oil, it just happens that most of the oil is in Islamic lands. Islam is just the innocent bystander dragged into this conflict.

Yes, the christian right is fighting Islam, but the Christian Right is a dying hypocritical breed, dying a slow death in America after having totally disappeared from its ancestorial homeland in Europe. We shall just have to put up with their war on Islam until they totally disappear from America in a 100 years.

      JK,

I agree with your comments 100%. I believe Sean Stome understands more about the western religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam than most Jews, Christians, and Muslims, I am frankly disgusted with most of the comments of the folks on this blog, it's obvious they didn't listen to a word he said, For one thing, Sean did not "cpnvert" to Islam, he accepted it, in that he understands that Muhamed is prophet in the same way as all them in the Old Testement and yes, even Jesus. Most Christians would be shocked to know that the religion of Islam accepts the Old Testement and accepts Jesus... Allah is just their name for the same god that Jews and Christians worship.

I would like to hear more from Sean Stone, he really impressed me this morning, even though Fredrica seemed a bit testy. If only the three main western religions would celebrate how much they have in common rather than concentrating in their differences, we would have a much more peaceful world.
