As Ramadan begins, controversial mosque won't be ready to open doors

By Steve Almasy and Melissa Abbey, CNN

(CNN) - Worshippers at an Islamic center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, will have to wait a few more weeks before they can use their new mosque, officials said Thursday.

The mosque - subject of a two-year battle marked by legal wrangling, vandalism and anti-Muslim sentiment - still needs to pass inspection and get its occupancy permit, mosque officials said.

"It is unfortunate that we cannot be in our building for the start of Ramadan tonight," the officials said in a written statement. "However, it does look like we will get to enjoy most of Ramadan in our building, especially the breaking of the fast at the end of Ramadan, on Eid-ul-Fitr."

The release said it will take about 10 days to complete the next legal steps.

On Wednesday, a federal judge in Memphis ordered Rutherford County to conduct a final inspection on the building, setting aside a local judge's ruling from June that voided a planning commission's approval.

Since their mosque isn't ready, perhaps they can hold their prayer sessions in a Ramadan Inn...

Or maybe a nearby church would let them use some of their space. Wouldn't that be the christian thing to do?

Prayer does not; you are such a LIAR. You have NO proof it changes anything! A great example of prayer proven not to work is the Christians in jail because prayer didn't work and their children died. For example: Susan Grady, who relied on prayer to heal her son. Nine-year-old Aaron Grady died and Susan Grady was arrested.

An article in the Journal of Pediatrics examined the deaths of 172 children from families who relied upon faith healing from 1975 to 1995. They concluded that four out of five ill children, who died under the care of faith healers or being left to prayer only, would most likely have survived if they had received medical care.

The statistical studies from the nineteenth century and the three CCU studies on prayer are quite consistent with the fact that humanity is wasting a huge amount of time on a procedure that simply doesn’t work. Nonetheless, faith in prayer is so pervasive and deeply rooted, you can be sure believers will continue to devise future studies in a desperate effort to confirm their beliefs!'

Atheism doesn't offer answers. Basically, if something is not clear or understood, an atheist does not credit or blame a god. Religion claims to offer answers but with no self-referencing evidence.

“Whoever does any work on a holy day: put to death”
    “anyone who blasphemes: stone him.”
“worship other gods: stone the guilty ones to death”
“stubborn and rebellious son: stone him to death.”
“man is found lying with a married woman: both of them shall die”
“virgin engaged to another man and he lies with her: stone them to death”
“Whoever strikes his father or his mother: put to death”
"Anyone who says cruel things to his father or mother: put to death.”
“anyone who curses his father or his mother: put to death”
“man who commits adultery with another man's wife: they shall be put to death.”
"man or woman who is a medium or a fortune-teller: stone them to death"

From the Quran? Nope. From the Bible. That's how God wanted the world run when he set up all the rules.

      Uncouth Swain,

If you need a citation, you apparently aren't too familiar with the Bible.

Here's one if you really need it:
Leviticus also says (Lev. 20:9) "If there is anyone who curses his father or his mother, he shall surely be put to death”.

So the commands of God were "flexible"? Just choose whichever ones you like. Sure.

@Observer- "If you need a citation, you apparently aren't too familiar with the Bible."

Quite familiar actually. Curious, did you tell your profs such things when they asked for citations?

"So the commands of God were "flexible"? Just choose whichever ones you like. Sure."

Lol...not what I like silly. If you knew Judaism you would know that their were elders that would dictate judgement based on the Torah. That, and the parents of such children also had say over what would happen. I don't understand this warped idea that the law of the Torah was so cut and dry. Seems only the atheists make such a distinction.

"You can't be serious. It is the believers that INSIST that the Bible is inflexible. That's how so many HYPOCRITES can use it to trash others, like gays."

I'll be more specific then, atheists (like some believers) will take the Torah, Tanakh and/or the NT in a inflexible manner when it suits them. I wish more ppl (believers and non-believers alike) would take Matt 7:1-5 to heart.

No one believes every word of the Bible.
They just pick-and-choose whatever agrees with their own feelings.
      Too many people judge others.

I am also a firm believer in the concept of the Golden Rule.

Now, if you could just convince the believers that the Bible is not absolute but flexible ....

@Just Claims, No Truth- "How can anyone claim this is (or was ever) moral?"

You are @ssuming that morality is is an absolute and never changes. What we (early 21 century North Americans focused on individualism) think is moral does not mean another culture (present or past) is going to agree. Might seem a bit odd but I always liked Star Trek's Prime Directive in a sense. The idea of not judging other cultures by basing it on your own is not wise.

  10. The Central Scrutinizer

The vestiges of pagan religion in Christian symbolism are undeniable. Egyptian sun disks became the halos of Catholic saints. Pictograms of Isis nursing her miraculously conceived son Horus became the blueprint for our modern images of the Virgin Mary nursing Baby Jesus. And virtually all the elements of the Catholic ritual – the miter, the altar, the doxology, and communion, the act of "God-eating" – were taken directly from earlier pagan mystery religions.

Nothing in Christianity is original. The pre-Christian God Mithras – was called the Son of God and the Light of the World, died, was buried in a rock tomb, and then resurrected in three days. The newborn Krishna was presented with gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Even Christianity's weekly holy day was stolen from the pagans.

Too pathetic, the atheists write this garbage, then they jump on to blog to the phony heavensent. I did mention pathetic, did I mention not one of you has a creative bone in your body, not to mention thinking of something new. My bosses used all this on me ... LOL. You need to throw away that users manual and try, try, try to think, I know from Moe Curly of the 3 stooges that nothing works.

      3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

christians cry when they think their religious freedoms have been stepped on - but then do everything they can to censor all other religions, especially the dreaded islam. i'm an atheist, and just like i would fight for your right to be a religious idiot, i will fight for their right to be religious idiots. of course i hope you both start using your frontal lobe and choose atheism/humanism as a belief system.

That's pretty funny about the farmer having pig races. Similarly, I'd like to see people who own land next door to christian churches do plays that show Jesus fvcking his disciples and mother and "last supper" scenes with defecation on the Eucharist and that sort of thing.

I hear you brother Moss. I love to dress up as Jesus in drag and stand on the sidewalk in front of the church near me and waive to the Christians pulling into church. While each one is delusional in their beliefs, you should show equal respect. It appears this concept and our Const i tution is foreign to you. I think you missed your YEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HAWWWWWWWWW at the end. God Bless our redneck and simple minded folk. They are like retarded children...we must be patient with them.

Some good reasons why all houses of "worthless worship" should close their doors permanently.

For those who are reading challenged, a PowerPoint slide:

      SAVING 1.5 BILLION LOST MUSLIMS:
THERE NEVER WERE AND NEVER WILL BE ANY ANGELS I.E. NO GABRIEL, NO ISLAM AND THEREFORE NO MORE KORANIC-DRIVEN ACTS OF HORROR AND TERROR LIKE MOSQUE-PLANNED 9/11.

      SAVING 2 BILLION LOST CHRISTIANS:
THERE WERE NEVER ANY BODILY RESURRECTIONS AND THERE WILL NEVER BE ANY BODILY RESURRECTIONS I.E. NO EASTER, NO CHRISTIANITY.

SAVING 15.5 MILLION FOLLOWERS OF JUDAISM:
ABRAHAM AND MOSES PROBABLY NEVER EXISTED.

      prob•a•bly

Adverb: Almost certainly; as far as one knows or can tell.

      Added details upon request.

      @Reality

The "powerpoint slide" is an improvement over the usual long list of bullsh!t, but it's still dry and stupid. Why not respond as a human being? What are you so afraid of? Make an argument that's simple and expresses your viewpoint. It's not that hard.

As a good student, you have read the reiterations of the "fems" (flaws, errors, muck and stench) of religion. Therefore the seeds have been planted in rich soil. Go therefore and preach the truth to all nations, reiterating as you go amongst the lost, bred, born and brainwashed souls of Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism as Rational Thinking makes its triumphant return all because of you!!!!

      Summarizing with that famous prayer:

The Apostles' Creed 2012: (updated by yours truly and based on the studies of historians and theologians of the past 200 years)

Should I believe in a god whose existence cannot be proven
and said god if he/she/it exists resides in an unproven,
human-created, spirit state of bliss called heaven??

I believe there was a 1st century CE, Jewish, simple,
preacher-man who was conceived by a Jewish carpenter
named Joseph living in Nazareth and born of a young Jewish
girl named Mary. (Some say he was a mamzer.)

Jesus was summarily crucified for being a temple rabble-rouser by
the Roman troops in Jerusalem serving under Pontius Pilate,

He was buried in an unmarked grave and still lies
a-mouldering in the ground somewhere outside of
      Jerusalem.

Said Jesus' story was embellished and "mythicized" by
many semi-fiction writers. A descent into Hell, a bodily resurrection
and ascension stories were promulgated to compete with the
Caesar myths. Said stories were so popular that they
grew into a religion known today as Catholicism/Christianity
and featuring dark-age, daily wine to blood and bread to body rituals
called the eucharistic sacrifice of the non-atoning Jesus.

      Amen

CNN has started its article recycling program. Soon there will be the “My take” version and then the “Your take” part where they just recycle our posts.

We should poll the board and try and guess the final number of articles that will be dedicated to this. I say 7.

      @Lycidas,
Normally, I would agree with you on the retread of articles, however, in this case CNN is just following the news cycle. There have been three events and three articles. (Appeal, Decision on the Appeal, and Inspection)
One could argue for waiting till the end result, but each step wasn't necessarily going to happen so quickly.

I would however, like to know why the "10 days to complete the next legal steps" wasn't mentioned before hand.
