Mohammed retakes top spot in English baby names

By Richard Allen Greene, CNN

Mohammed reclaimed its place as the most popular name for baby boys born in England and Wales in 2011 - convincingly ahead of Harry, in second place, according to data released by the government this week.

The government declared that Harry was the most popular boy's name, but if you add up the five most popular different spellings of Mohammed, that name comes top.

Mohammed is also the most popular boy's name of the past five years for England and Wales, ahead of Oliver and Jack. It came first or second every year since 2007, the only name to do so.

And it could become even more popular in 2012, given the adulation around long-distance runner Mo Farah, who won two gold medals for Britain at the Olympics.

The popularity of the name comes as Britain's Muslim population is expected to double in the next 20 years.

The country, which was about 2% Muslim in 1990, grew to 4.6% Muslim in 2010, with nearly 2.9 million followers of the faith, according to analysis by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life.

By 2030, the United Kingdom will be just over 8% Muslim, with more than 5.5 million adherents, the Washington-based think tank projected in a 2011 report, "The Future of the Global Muslim Population."

Mohammed first became the most popular boy's name in England in 2009, then was knocked back into second place the next year as Oliver enjoyed a huge surge in popularity.

Harry, the name of Prince William's younger brother and J.K. Rowling's boy wizard, leaped into second place in 2011, with 7,523 boys given the moniker, topping the 7,007 Olivers.

But the name of the Muslim prophet was given to 7,907 baby boys, according to CNN analysis of Office of National Statistics data. Mohammed, Muhammad and Mohammad were all among the top 100 most popular names, with Muhammed and Mohamed also coming in the top 200.

A total of 37,564 babies have been given a variation of the name in the past five years. Some 36,653 Olivers and 36,581 Jacks were born in England and Wales since 2007. The British government keeps separate statistics for Scotland and for Northern Ireland, the other two nations that make up the United Kingdom.

The 2011 British census had an optional question about religion. Results are expected in November.

At least four different spellings of the name Mohammed are among the 1,000 most popular American boys' names in 2011, according to the Social Security Administration.

Mohamed is the top, in 428th place, with Muhammad in 480th, Mohammed in 562nd and Mohammad in 609th.

The United States is about 0.8% Muslim, with about 2.6 million adherents, the Pew Forum calculates.

Even in naming their babies muslims show their fanaticism.Next step is to teach them how to become suicide bombers.

Yes because as we all know no other culture ever names their children after religious figures (Jesus, Peter, Paul, Joseph, Mary, etc...).

You are wrong. Many of my Christian friends use the name Mary or Christian or Christina or name their babies after a holy figure or saint. Many of my Jewish friends use the names David or Jacob or Sarah or Rachel. Many of my Hindu friends use the name Arjun. And so it goes. Has nothing to do with fanaticism, but rather with someone whose qualities are to be emulated.

Those of the Muslim faith are as zealous and passionate about their faith being expressed through procreation as the Duggars here in Arkansas – 19 kids and counting – Abortion is unacceptable and every child is a blessing from Allah -

Mandie – If every child was a gift from Allah, then daughters would not be murdered at birth or their birth perceived as a great saddness upon their family. Pretty sure if an Islamic man and his wife only had daughters, the wife and the daughters would be charged with some ridiculous crime, allowing him to divorce and remarry in hopes for the birth of a son. Women are not equals in that society and that is MY biggest issue. Sure I am a christian, but I think about human rights first and foremost. Just because you are a Pro-life person, doesn't mean you should turn the cheek to the atrocities of the people you uplift. How about observing them? Do you really think a woman wishes to wear something black that covers her from head to toe with a small screen for the eyes, when it is 120 degrees outside? Wouldn't she want to wear something white or tan that breathes and is what she wants to wear.

"Mohamed" by any spelling is equally incongruous as a boy's name in Great Britain. I suspect the popularity of the name with British Muslims is directly proportional to their sense of isolation from the British mainstream. The choice of the name reflects a statement to be defiantly Muslim when one's children are being denied the opportunity to become British If the Brits do not solve their problem with assimilating Muslims into British society, theu will be laying the groundowrk for a fifth column path for terrorists and extremists.

How naive you are! It´s impossible to integrate, much less assimilate,a bunch of theocrats who consider non-muslims as "infidels" and tacitly support terrorism.

  8. Reality

Not a good idea based on the following:

    3. Mohammed was an illiterate, womanizing, lust and greed-driven, warmongering, hallucinating Arab, who also had embellishing/hallucinating/plagiarizing scribal biographers who not only added "angels" and flying chariots to the koran but also a militaristic agenda to support the plundering and looting of the lands of non-believers.

This agenda continues as shown by the ma-ssacre in Mumbai, the as-sas-sinations of Bhutto and Theo Van Gogh, the conduct of the seven Muslim doctors in the UK, the 9/11 terrorists, the 24/7 Sunni suicide/roadside/market/mosque bombers, the 24/7 Shiite suicide/roadside/market/mosque bombers, the Islamic bombers of the trains in the UK and Spain, the Bali crazies, the Kenya crazies, the Pakistani “koranics”, the Palestine suicide bombers/rocketeers, the Lebanese nutcases, the Taliban nut jobs, the Ft. Hood follower of the koran, and the Filipino “koranics”.

And who funds this muck and stench of terror? The warmongering, Islamic, Shiite terror and torture theocracy of Iran aka the Third Axis of Evil and also the Sunni "Wannabees" of Saudi Arabia.

    Current crises:

The global Sunni-Shiite blood feud (e.g. Syria and also Iraq) and the warmongering, womanizing (11 wives), hallucinating founder.

      7. 20 million Joseph Stalin 20C (Communism)

      8. 19 million Mideast Slave Trade 7C-19C (Islam)

      9. 17 million Timur Lenk 14C-15C

      18. 8 million Congo Free State 19C-20C (Christians)

      19. 7½ million Thirty Years War 17C (Christians vs Christians)

      20. 7½ million Fall of the Yuan Dynasty 14C

*:" Is religion responsible for more violent deaths than any other cause?

A: No, of course not – unless you define religion so broadly as to be meaningless. Just take the four deadliest events of the 20th Century – Two World Wars, Red China and the Soviet Union – no religious motivation there, unless you consider every belief system to be a religion."

Q: So, what you're saying is that religion has never killed anyone.

A: Arrgh... You all-or-nothing people drive me crazy. There are many doc-umented examples where members of one religion try to exterminate the members of another religion. Causation is always complex, but if the only difference between two warring groups is religion, then that certainly sounds like a religious conflict to me. Is it the number one cause of mass homicide in human history? No. Of the 22 worst episodes of mass killing, maybe four were primarily religious. Is that a lot? Well, it's more than the number of wars fought over soccer, or s-ex (The Trojan and Sabine Wars don't even make the list.), but less than the number fought over land, money, glory or prestige.

In my Index, I list 41 religious conflicts compared with 27 oppressions under "Communism", 24 under Colonialism, 2 under "Railroads" and 2 under "Scapegoats". Make of that what you will."

What instigated the attack on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon?

And what drives today's 24/7 mosque/imam-planned acts of terror and horror?

The koran, Mohammed's book of death for all infidels and Muslim domination of the world by any means.

Muslims must clean up this book removing said passages admitting that they are based on the Gabriel myth and therefore obviously the hallucinations and/or lies of Mohammed.

Then we can talk about the safety and location of mosques and what is taught therein.

Until then, no male Muslim to include those named Mohammed can be trusted anytime or anywhere..................................

o "Believers, take neither Jews nor Christians for your friends." (Surah 5:51)
      o
"Believers, when you encounter the infidels on the march, do not turn your backs to them in flight. If anyone on that day turns his back to them, except it be for tactical reasons...he shall incur the wrath of God and Hell shall be his home..." (Surah 8:12-)

"Make war on them until idolatry shall cease and God's religion shall reign supreme." (Surah 8:36-)

"...make war on the leaders of unbelief...Make war on them: God will chastise them at your hands and humble them. He will grant you victory over them..." (Surah 9:12-)

"Fight against such as those to whom the Scriptures were given [Jews and Christians]...until they pay tribute out of hand and are utterly subdued." (Surah 9:27-)

"It is He who has sent forth His apostle with guidance and the true Faith [Islam] to make it triumphant over all religions, however much the idolaters [non-Muslims] may dislike it." (Surah 9:31-)

"If you do not fight, He will punish you sternly, and replace you by other men." (Surah 9:37-)

"Prophet make war on the unbelievers and the hypocrites and deal rigorously with them. Hell shall be their home." (Surah 9:73)

"Believers, make war on the infidels who dwell around you. Deal firmly with them." (Surah 9:121-)

"Say: 'Praise be to God who has never begotten a son; who has no partner in His Kingdom..." (Surah 17:111)

"'How shall I bear a child,' she [Mary] answered, 'when I am a virgin...?' 'Such is the will of the Lord,' he replied. 'That is no difficult thing for Him...God forbid that He [God[ Himself should beget a son!...Those who say: 'The Lord of Mercy has begotten a son,' preach a monstrous falsehood..." (Surah 19:12-, 29-, 88)

"Fight for the cause of God with the devotion due to Him...He has given you the name of Muslims..." (Surah 22:78-)

"Blessed are the believers...who restrain their carnal desires (except with their wives and slave-girls, for these are lawful to them)...These are the heirs of Paradise..." (Surah 23:1-5-)

"Muhammad is God's apostle. Those who follow him are ruthless to the unbelievers but merciful to one another." (Surah 48:29)

"Shall the reward of goodness be anything but good?...Dark-eyed virgins sheltered in their tents...They shall recline on green cushions and fine carpets...Blessed be the name of your Lord..." (Surah 55:52-66-)

Muslims and blacks are not wanted or liked, but it is not racism. There are very specific, valid reasons on why exactly they are not liked.

The British, French, Germans and Spainards have negative birth rates – Today's European will have one child, take world class vacations, buy the best of everything and spoil their one child rotten. That child will grow up – go to University, move back in with parents and marry maybe in their late thirties and have one child – then the said European parents will grow old and allow the one child and grand child to move back in with them. A Muslim family will live in a two bedroom apartment. have six children, save all their money to go to Mecca and their daughters will marry right after their eighteenth birthday to some one of their faith and immediately begin having six children in her own two bedroom apartment and they will save all their money to go to Mecca. This isn't racist – note how the two lifestyles are separated by a gulf of different value systems.

There were over 370,000 baby boys born in England and Wales in 2011. Even if we agree with the decision by CNN to group all the spelling variations of Mohammed together as one name, that still would have the single most popular boys' name being given to only about 2% of the boys born in that year. Thousands of the names given had 10 or fewer baby boys given that name and over 25,000 names weren't even included on the list released to the public to protect the confidentiality of the individuals since 2 or fewer children were given the name. Hardly a case of naming all children the same name.
