Opinion: American Muslims live in fear 11 years after 9/11

He was part of a generation of American Muslims who wanted to stay quiet and assimilate into American life and not rock the boat. Growing up in Southern California, I tried to follow his advice. But after 9/11, I found that I, along with other American Muslims, have had little choice but to talk about religion. Islam poses NO threat to America or our way of life, it is merely a religion.. It is those who practice the most extreme fundamentalism of Islam that threaten us. However, there are some who would claim that the extreme fundamentals in Christianity may well be just as dangerous.
Muslims are so intolerant, that the International Red Cross had to create a splinter operation and call it the Red Crescent because Muslims were so "offended" by the sight of the "cross". Never mind that the Red Cross has for something like nearly 150 years offered food, shelter, aid, comfort to ANYONE who needed it, with NO exceptions for Muslims. It wasn't because of anything that the Red Cross did that caused Muslims to demand the change. It was only Muslim intolerance.
Tolerance is a two way street. Until Muslims stop their total intolerance of any one else, they have no right to ask or expect tolerance from any one else.
And we all know how tollerant Christians are, don't we?

And Wayne...There are a whole bunch of verses in the bible that call for the killing of non believers too. So... Would you than, as well, claim (as you have claimed for Islam) that a Christian wasn't a real Christian if they did not call for the killing on non-believers.

And by the way 150???? That must be some number some fundie preacher said... If you can READ and COUNT there are something like under 10 that say to kill. You have to add in all the 'fight the unbelievers' and all the admonitions of 'Allah says unbelievers are unclean' and 'Allah will punish the unbeliever' to get up to 35.
There are 12 direct commands to kill unbelievers in the bible.

i dont live in fear , my community jews and christians have embraced me and my family with open arms . I can understand some hesitancy but that all goes away when they know how i am as a person. i belive in my religion follow it to the letter and am an american citizen .

Bob, you aren't hurting my feelings at all, I am not a fundamentalist and don't see the bible as sacred in and of itself (two covers, 66 books and x number of pages). But the same applies to the Quoran. Any modern copy of the Quoran is printed in a man-made factory, on man-made machines, using man-made materials. Doesn't Islam demand the death penalty for idolotry? So isn't that what muslims are doing with the Quoran? To my knowledge, there aren't any Muslims walking around with a copy of the Quoran that was handed to them straight from the hand of god their their human hands. If there was such a copy, wouldn't the handling by a human be inexcusable desecration? It just seems that Muslims want everyone to be tolerant of their beliefs and practices while they show ZERO tolerance for anyone else's.
