My Take: It’s time for Islamophobic evangelicals to choose

Editor's Note: Brian D. McLaren  is author of "Why Did Jesus, Moses, the Buddha, and Mohammed Cross the Road? Christian Identity in a Multi-Faith World" (Jericho Books/Hachette Book Group).

By Brian McLaren, Special to CNN

I was raised as an evangelical Christian in America, and any discussion of Christian-Jewish-Muslim relations around the world must include the phenomenon of American Islamophobia, for which large sectors of evangelical Christianity in America serve as a greenhouse.

At a time when U.S. embassies are being attacked and when people are getting killed over an offensive, adolescent and puerile film targeting Islam - beyond pathetic in its tawdriness – we must begin to own up to the reality of evangelical Islamaphobia.

Many of my own relatives receive and forward pious-sounding and alarm-bell-ringing e-mails that trumpet (IN LOTS OF CAPITAL LETTERS WITH EXCLAMATION POINTS!) the evils of Islam, that call their fellow evangelicals and charismatics to prayer and “spiritual warfare” against those alleged evils, and that often - truth be told - contain lots of downright lies.

For example, one recent e-mail claimed “Egyptian Christians in Grave Danger as Muslim Brotherhood Crucifies Opponents."  Of course, that claim has been thoroughly debunked, but the sender’s website still (as of Friday) claims that the Muslim Brotherhood has “crucified those opposing" Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy "naked on trees in front of the presidential palace while abusing others.”

CNN’s Belief Blog: The faith angles behind the biggest stories

Many sincere and good-hearted evangelicals have never yet had a real Muslim friend, and now they probably never will because their minds have been so prejudiced by Islamophobic broadcasts on so-called Christian television and radio.

Janet Parshall, for example, a popular talk show host on the Moody Radio Network, frequently hosts Walid Shoebat, a Muslim-evangelical convert whose anti-Muslim claims, along with claims about his own biography, are frequently questioned.  John Hagee, a popular televangelist, also hosts Shoebat as an expert on Islam, as does the 700 Club.

Many Christian bookstores that (used to) sell my books, still sell books such as Paul Sperry’s "Infiltration: How Muslim Spies and Subversives Have Penetrated Washington" (Thomas Nelson, 2008). In so doing, they fuel conspiracy theories such as the ones U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minnesota, promoted earlier this year.

In recent days, we’ve seen how irresponsible Muslim media outlets used the tawdry 13-minute video created by a tiny handful of fringe Christian extremists to create a disgusting caricature of all Christians - and all Americans - in Muslim minds. But too few Americans realize how frequently American Christian media personalities in the U.S. similarly prejudice their hearers’ minds with mirror-image stereotypes of Muslims.

Ambassador's killing shines light on Muslim sensitivities around Prophet Mohammed

Meanwhile, many who are pastors and leaders in evangelicalism hide their heads in the current issue of Christianity Today or World Magazine, acting as if the kinds of people who host Islamophobic sentiments swim in a tiny sidestream, not in the mainstream, of our common heritage. I wish that were true.

The events of this past week, if we let them, could mark a turning point - a hitting bottom, if you will - in the complicity of evangelicalism in Islamophobia. If enough evangelicals watch or try to watch the film trailer that has sparked such outrage in the Middle East, they may move beyond the tipping point.

I tried to watch it, but I couldn’t make it halfway to the 13-minute mark. Everything about it was tawdry, pathetic, even pornographic. All but the most fundamentalist believers from my evangelical Christian tribe who watch that video will be appalled and ashamed to be associated with it.

It is hate speech. It is no different from the anti-Semitic garbage that has been all too common in Western Christian history. It is sub-Christian - beneath the dignity of anyone with a functioning moral compass.

Islamophobic evangelical Christians - and the neo-conservative Catholics and even some Jewish folks who are their unlikely political bedfellows of late - must choose.

Will they press on in their current path, letting Islamophobia spread even further amongst them? Or will they stop, rethink and seek to a more charitable approach to our Muslim neighbors? Will they realize that evangelical religious identity is under assault, not by Shariah law, not by the liberal media, not by secular humanism from the outside, but by forces within the evangelical community that infect that religious identity with hostility?

If I could get one message through to my evangelical friends, it would be this: The greatest threat to evangelicalism is evangelicals who tolerate hate and who promote hate camouflaged as piety.

No one can serve two masters. You can’t serve God and greed, nor can you serve God and fear, nor God and hate.

The broad highway of us-them thinking and the offense-outrage-revenge reaction cycle leads to self-destruction. There is a better way, the way of Christ who, when reviled, did not revile in return, who when insulted, did not insult in return, and who taught his followers to love even those who define themselves as enemies.

Follow the CNN Belief Blog on Twitter

Yes, “they” – the tiny minority of Muslims who turn piety into violence – have big problems of their own. But the way of Christ requires all who claim to be Christians to examine our own eyes for planks before trying to perform first aid on the eyes of others. We must admit that we have our own tiny minority whose message and methods we have not firmly, unitedly and publicly repudiated and rejected.

To choose the way of Christ is not appeasement. It is not being a “sympathizer.”

The way of Christ is a gentle strength that transcends the vicious cycles of offense-outrage-revenge.

The opinions expressed in this commentary are solely those of Brian D. McLaren.

"Atheist Hunter" despite your frequent, lengthy posts that attempt to claim the opposite, your nasty god according to your bible actually does demand killing and other horrid acts. Here are some direct quotes from the Christian book of nasty AKA the bible that conclusively show this to be the case:

    Numbers 31:17-18
17 Now kiII all the boys. And kiII every woman who has slept with a man,
18 but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man.

Deuteronomy 13:6 – “If your brother, your mother’s son or your son or daughter, or the wife you cherish, or your friend who is as your own soul entice you secretly, saying, let us go and serve other gods … you shall surely kill him; your hand shall be first against him to put him to death”

Revelations 2:23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

Note that the bible is also very clear that you should sacrifice and burn an animal today because the smell makes sicko Christian sky fairy happy. No, you don't get to use the parts for food. You burn them, a complete waste of the poor animal.

Yes, the bible really says that, everyone. Yes, it's in Leviticus, look it up. Yes, Jesus purportedly said that the OT commands still apply. No exceptions. But even if you think the OT was god's mistaken first go around, you have to ask why a perfect, loving enti-ty would ever put such horrid instructions in there. If you think rationally at all, that is.

And then, if you disagree with my interpretation, ask yourself how it is that your "god" couldn't come up with a better way to communicate than a book that is so readily subject to so many interpretations and to being taken "out of context", and has so many mistakes in it. Pretty pathetic god that you've made for yourself.

So get out your sacrificial knife or your nasty sky creature will torture you eternally. Or just take a closer look at your foolish supersti-tions, understand that they are just silly, and toss them into the dustbin with all the rest of the gods that man has created.

Ask the questions. Break the chains. Join the movement. Be free of Christianity and other superstitions.

Bob.......my lengthy posts was in response to the article and that sir is my right. As I have already said, God does not tolerate EVIL. In OT there was no savior. Jesus Christ came and now our EVIL can be covered if we choose. It's simple really. He destroyed EVIL because he knows the end of evil. He was protecting his people from being destroyed and corrupted by evil. If God had not sent Jesus, a lot of people on this blog would be dead. What you don't seem to get is that Jehovah is the ONLY TRUE GOD! When he says thou shalt have no other gods before me it is because they are false gods and will lead to your destruction. Allah will destroy you, Buddha will destroy you, etc. etc. etc. He is trying to save our souls from eternal torment. Be wise. God is Holy. Do you think he is going to let evil win and destroy the ones who have chosen to follow Him. He is the ultimate Father. He will protect us and he will not be defeated by the sins of Lucifer. He will prevail. All others will fail because they are EVIL and tie directly into Satanism. Satan want to take us all to hell because he hates us because God loves us so much. God won't allow it. It's not a matter of many religions that are okay, there is only One God and God will reign supreme. God is Good the rest is Evil. That is truth! Without God the poor animal would have never had life to begin with. Animal know the voice of God their creator. God gave us animals for man to rule over, for food, work, OT sacrifice for sin instead of us. The OT does apply, but Jesus became the sacrifice. He fulfilled the law. The OT was not a mistake, it was to show you your end without Jesus. Do you think God can open the gates of heaven to evil and it still be heaven. Evil can't even stand in the presence of God. The Bible is the perfect way. It require faith, it is infallible, the mistakes are in your head, and when you are filled with the Holy Spirit the he does the teaching and interpreting. It has withstood the test of time. The most hated book in the world yet it survived and will survive when all is is destroyed. Jesus was the sacrifice. We don't have to make sacrifices for our sins anymore. Jesus paid it all. What is silly is a life with no meaning. We just appeared and became what we are for no purpose. By the way, God has done miraculous healings, you're just travel in the wrong circles to see any of it.

'Atheist Hunter', the fact that I have presented direct quotes from OT and NT, and that you have no rebuttal of any substance and no evidence for your god, has already destroyed your pathetic claims.

Again, look at these quotes, but do so carefully this time, and reconsider your belief in your absurd sky fairy tales:

      Numbers 31:17-18
17 Now kiII all the boys. And kiII every woman who has slept with a man,

To blame the behavior of a radical religious group on a movie, no matter what the content, is ludicrous. Stop making excuses for their murdering sprees. Does it make sense really? They hurt our feelings so we have a green light to commit mass assault and murder? If I see a film that offends my religion does that give me the right to hunt down the maker and everyone who may believe it or who is from the country he is from and kill them? No movie can make anymore murder or gives them the right to torture and murder others. Islamaphobia is crap! We have a phobia of them because they torture and kill innocent people if you don't believe what they believe or if you insult them with your beliefs. We have a right to have a phobia of them. If you were locked in a room with Hannibal Lecture would you not have a phobia. Same thing! You don't want us to have a phobia then tell the muslims to stop killing and torturing people and the phobia will be gone.

There are just as many negative movies, emails, websites, etc. full of lies about Christians and we aren't out killing and torturing people in the name of Jesus. Let them be called to prayer and spiritual warfare, we could care less, just tell them to quit torturing and murdering in the name of their god. Let Walid Shoebat say what he wants to say, he has freedom of speech, just like you. He lived with them, have you? What he says gives no-one a right to kills him or someone else. That is the mind frame of Islam. You and Islam are about control. You want to control who Hagee or anyone else can interview. Michelle Bachman has a right to say whatever she wants to say and if she doesn't then you have no right to write this article. It's a fact buddy, they are killing and torturing people by the thousands daily in the name of Allah. That is not happening in the name of Jesus Christ. Ask yourself did the film contain facts and history, no matter how disgusting? I hear it did. The question is will we sit idly by and allow their torture, murder, sharia, and takeover of the US forcing their violence on us or will we speak out and warn ignorant people like you of they reality that you will be facing it your don't fight for your rights, like right to free speech, and right to practice Christianity. Sell you charitable approach to the Christians in Syria being torn apart by your peaceful Muslims. Hostility??? Go write your holier than thou article to the Muslims who are raping and killing children and women. Go over there and live in it and then let me see if your future articles defend them and their hate filled religion. Go look into the eyes of the children terrified of Islam and read them this crap. See if they buy it. "If I could get one message through to my evangelical friends, it would be this: The greatest threat to evangelicalism is evangelicals who tolerate hate and who promote hate camouflaged as piety." My friend you have just described yourself!

    • Atheist Hunter

The God I serve does not tolerate torturing and killing women and children or people because they refuse to believe. You're right, no one can serve two masters. You should choose which master your serve and defend him name, not the name of Allah. People fear Islam because Islam promotes fear and death if you don't follow them. Making films that reveals the truths of Islam, films that may lead Muslims away from their false religion and to Jehovah God and eternity with Him should not be bashed by evangelicals, as you say you are. You are fighting the wrong battle sir. The battle is to expose darkness and bring people into the Light of Jesus Christ. We can't do that by patting them on the back and blessing their false doctrine and letting it kill us and destroy our freedom. Jesus Christ spoke the truth. He was not tolerant of false doctrine, he exposed it and rebuked it. Your rebuke needs to be for the ones killing others because they didn't like the content of a film. Just as when you raise a child you tell them the truth, even if they don't like it because you love them. Same with Muslims. You can't assume that revealing the truth to them is not done out of love. What will evangelicals like you do for them? Tell them their religion is good to go with it? Pat their backs to hell? You sir are the one who needs to show true love. True love is full of truth, not lies that makes you feel good but leads you to destruction. You say a minority of Muslims are violent. I say their Koran teaches violence and eventually, if you stick with Islam you will be required to be violent and support violence. The minority as you call it is true to their faith. The non-violent ones have not reached that maturity in following Islam. It's in the teaching. It should be revealed and maybe the non-violent ones will come out of it before they too are consumed with violence. Christians examining their own lives for planks has nothing to do with being opposed to serving other gods and encouraging others to serve false gods who tell you to kill others. You sir are lost! Jesus taught against false religion, he expects us to do the same You don't have a clue of the ways of Christ. The "vicious cycles of offense-outrage-revenge" describe what Islam is doing after viewing a film. You're preaching to the wrong crowd buddy! The guy who made the film if in hiding, in fear for his life because he practiced free speech. Something others do everyday on other topics. Why is he the one hiding, why does that topic cause him to hide? Because Islam teaches brutality, hate, murder, torture, rage and revenge. The truth he exposed in the film is now exposed by the followers of Islam in their hate filled revenge directed at him and anyone from the US. You call that Peace? Even if it were lies, if it was about Christianity would he be in hiding and in fear for his life? Would people all over the world be dying because he produced a hate film about Christianity? You and I both know that answer. Islam o phobia = common sense. Torture and death by Islam = phobia of Islam. The day is coming when you will wish you had not been so supportive of it. Ask the US Consul. Oh you can't they rap ed and killed him.

"The God I serve does not tolerate torturing and killing women and children or people because they refuse to believe. "

Then your god isn't the god of the bible.

      Deuteronomy 17: 2-5
"Suppose a man or woman among you, in one of your towns that the LORD your God is giving you, has done evil in the sight of the LORD your God and has violated the covenant by serving other gods or by worshiping the sun, the moon, or any of the forces of heaven, which I have strictly forbidden. When you hear about it, investigate the matter thoroughly. If it is true that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, then that man or woman must be taken to the gates of the town and stoned to death"

I've got other examples if you want them. Try actually reading your bible sometime.

Rufus T. Firefly.......cause he desires to live in heaven with us some day, but Evil can not live in Heaven. If you are talking about torture of the animals, ive never read in the bible where he required they torture them. Don't we in america every day kill animals for food? Do you also call that torture. Many of the Sacrifices were cooked and partly eaten. God wants obedience and love. Adam was not obedient so blame Adam for the sin and need for it to be covered to be in the presence of a HOLY god. We're not talking about old Joe at the pool hall. This is God you speak of, the creator of heaven and earth and all that dwell in it. God is good, we are not because of sin and satan. That's why we need a sacrifice, but today it is Jesus, not sheep.

Atheist Hunter, why would a perfect God require "payment" for your sins? Why would forgiveness require torture and sacrifice, when God is capable of doing anything He wants?

You really think there's a context that makes a death sentence for fortune telling ok? The whole context argument is laughable anyway because if you say that there is a context in which this was moral, then you make your god a moral relativist. That mean that your god can't be unchanging and perfect. Which is it? You can't have your cake and eat it too.

*facepalm*........despite your beliefs it is a loving God who want's to rid the world of Evil for the sake of his children. God destroyed Evil, then when he saw that our hearts were evil continuously he sent his only son Jesus to pay for our sins so that we could live in the presence of a Holy God. Honestly now, do you want you children to grow up under the influence and persecution of evil or do you want the to have the promise of peace? God, Jehovah God, knows the tricks of Satan to destroy us all and He is a protector of us from being overrun by Satan's evil. God only destroyed evil man to protect his children. Would you destroy and evil man to protect your children?

*facepalm*.........again OT evil. In OT yes, fortune telling, if real, is only done through obtaining powers from Satan. Therefore it was evil and there was not Jesus to pay for their sins of it. It would bring evil and curses on the people. God is a protector. He does not command us to kill them today, he commands they repent. God is perfect, we are not thanks to Adam. We are born in sin. God destroyed sin to give a chance and that we were not consumed by sin. Sin can't live with God, so he made a way to rid us of the punishment for sin. What you don't get is God is Holy and to dwell with God he had to cover our sin with the blood of Christ, otherwise he would have had to destroy us all like in the days of Noah. You should thank Him, not belittle Him. Satan corrupted our goodness, God offers you an escape from the trap Satan laid for us all. Only a fool would not take it. Look deep inside of yourself. Don't you see that you can't be good and that you can't change yourself. Men were not born sinless. We have Adams sinful bloodline. Only Jesus' blood can fix that.

"Atheist Hunter" despite your frequent, lengthy posts that attempt to claim the opposite, your nasty god according to your bible actually does demand killing and other horrid acts, in both OT and NT.

Jesus wasn't the messiah because he did not fulfill the messianic prophecies. He did not build the Third Temple (Ezekiel 37:26-28), gather all Jews back to the Land of Israel (Isaiah 43:5-6). Nor did he usher in an era of world peace, and end all hatred, oppression, suffering and disease. As it says: "Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall man learn war anymore." (Isaiah 2:4). Also, he didn't unite humanity by spreading universal knowledge of the God. As it says: "God will be King over all the world ― on that day, God will be One and His Name will be One" (Zechariah 14:9).

Also, he didn't embody the personal qualifications of the Messiah, biblical verses "referring" to Jesus are mistranslations.
Jewish belief is based on national revelation. Sorry, but Jesus fails as the logical choice for being the Messiah.

There are at least 30 independent accounts detailing the person of Jesus beside the Bible. No serious scholar of antiquities denies the existence of Jesus. Jesus is the Son of God not the "son" of God. The term "sons" of God refer to created beings.

The "person of Jesus" is altogether a different thing than Jesus as the god Christ, correct? Most of the other ancient mentions of Jesus only refer to him as a man, and others that link him to Christ only refer to his follower's belief that he was such. Josephus mentions other people named "Jesus" and he also mentions Hercules as a real historical figure.

Also, can you please list the 30 accounts you mention? I'm not familiar with that many.

Israel, as a nation, is also referred to as the Son of God.

Cq.........what do you think is happening in the middle east right now? You need to do some research. They have the plans drawn to build the third temple, the jews are gathering back into israel as we speak and he has not returned to the earth yet to usher in world peace. It's all in the Bible. He will come back to do that. Mistranslations according to who? Men? Jesus fulfilled all the descriptions of the Messiah, every one and is still fulfilling them.

      Atheist Hunter
Everything that the Messiah was supposed to do, he was supposed to do within the span of a normal human lifetime, which has not happened if you are referring to Jesus of Nazareth. There is nothing to suggest that the Hebrew prophets imagined a divine Messiah. Everyone/everything else called a "messiah" in the OT wasn't divine, so why would monotheistic Jews even imagine a "son of god" like the Roman Emperors liked to call themselves, or like mythical figures such as Hercules, would be their savior?

Yes, "mistranslations" according to people just as the bible was written by other people and the early Church that did the mistranslation was also made up of people.

Dr McClaren, since in Islam we view Jesus a s one of our most revered prophets, the message that you just gave that appeasement is Jesus's way, is the exact same way of Mohammed, May peace be upon them both. They are Prophets from the same God, with the same message, so appeasement was the way of Mohammed as well. The prophet and his family suffered much, but never did he retaliate. God has created all of us and has sent down his message with his Prophets. If we all just follow our faith the way we are supposed to,with tolerance, we could have peace on earth.

When you have mass psychosis on such a large scale, than whatever is the main biological cause of that particular psychosis would be the main cause of the actions, and all the variables that interplay into the moment as it is in time with all its various stresses to inner ease and survival of self or ego or community or resources, etc. become simply hotpoints to the underlying cause of psychosis. just thinking out loud to try to explain how this may be something more biological/geophysical based on such a large scale of religious based psychosis. i mean ... to truly try to understand

    Greetings from Canada.

Mr. McLaren, you have won my admiration and respect for your wisdom, your empathy and your moral courage. your words are an inspiration. I think this may be an opportune moment to share with your readers some excerpts from my own life experience.

Many years ago, after accompanying a friend to a Sunday evening evangelical prayer meeting over a period of several months, I was approached by the elders of the group to run for political office. It was a tempting offer for a front line civil servant in his early thirties. Had I accedpted, the public service pension I now collect after three decades of service might be five or six times the amount that is now deposited monthly in my checking account. I politely and firmly declined the offer. I simply could not in good conscience politically align myself with any group so obsessed with 'end of days' and the 'rapture'. Call it discernment, if you will.

I think 'conscience' is the key word here, as I believe our conscience manifests itself from the natural empathy the majority of humanity is born with and further tempered or undermined by our individual life experience. My conscience dictates that words have meaning and consequence and should always be chosen with deliberate care. Even children can be taught that antagonizing and tormenting others inflicts pain and suffering that all to often leads to violent confrontation. Most will learn, others will not.

Sadly there are those amoung us, individuals such as Mr. Nakoula, so devoid of natural empathy they are all but oblivious to the potential harm of the choices they make. They are so self-absorbed and so emtionally detached from the rest of humanity, they can only find solace in the company of their own kind. It must be a sad and lonely existence. He will no doubt spend the rest of his life looking over his shoulder, living in a constant state of fear and dread. God help him.

In the last few years of my career, I had the good fortune to become acquainted with a colleque, an Iranian born Canadian who loaned me a number of books including a copy of Robert Fisk's 'The Great War For Civilization: The Conquest of the Middle East.' Reading Mr. Fisk's account of a hundred years of misery, treachery and betrayal, much of it at the hands of Western political and commercial interests has had a profound effect on my world view. I woulld recommend it to anyone who might genuinely desire a better understanding the nature of the turbulent changes sweeping that part of world.

I have to contact my friend and former colleque in the near future to return the his copy of this epic work and thank him, Because what I have taken away from Mr. Fisk's life expereince is just how important human empathy is to the very survival of our species. This is the century that humanity will either make the great paradign shift from mutually assured destruction to mutually assured survival or human civilization as we know it is finished.

I am cautiously optimistic we'll make it, in spite of the best efforts of Mr. Nakoula and others of his ilk, I still have faith because I come to believe in the one irrefutable truth that has remained a constant through thousands of years of human history, the one thing that has been the key to our species survival. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few and the 'many' shall always outnumber the 'few'.

As in all epic struggles for dignity and justice in the history of the Abrahamic religions, from the protests of the Occupy Wall Street movement to the struggles of the Arab Spring, from the the 'troubles' of Northern Ireland to the Iranian Islamic Revolution and all the way back to Moses and The Book of Exodus, it has taken genuine compassion and uncommon courge onthe part of ordinay citizens to face and confront tyranny at great personal risk. It would seem that the true nature of 'good' and 'evil' transcends politics, religion, culture and history. It is an ageless struggle between those who possess a natural empathy for others and those who so obviouly do not.

No, I won't be deterred by the likes of Mr. Nakoula and his kind. He represents the 'few'.

The koran, Mohammed's book of death for all infidels and Muslim domination of the world by any means.

Muslims must clean up this book removing said passages admitting that they are based on the Gabriel myth and therefore obviously the hallucinations and/or lies of Mohammed.

Then we can talk about the safety and location of mosques and what is taught therein.

Until then, no Muslim can be trusted anytime or anywhere..................................

      Reality,

I have read those verses with their interpretation by scholars. Almost all scholars agree that those applied to defensive wars and killing innocent non-combatants are grave sin. Now, does Al-Qida follows that main stream interpretation? Of course not, since they are a political group using Islam as their platform.

My suggestion is that study Quran using Academic sources, don't start with hate group with hidden agenda! Peace, Salam, Shalom

From the studies of Armstrong, Rushdie, Hirsi Ali, Richardson and Bayhaqi----–

The Five Steps To Deprogram 1400 Years of Islamic Myths:

( –The Steps take less than two minutes to finish- simply amazing, two minutes to bring peace and rationality to over one billion lost souls- Priceless!!!)

      Are you ready?

Using "The 77 Branches of Islamic "faith" a collection compiled by Imam Bayhaqi as a starting point. In it, he explains the essential virtues that reflect true "faith" (iman) through related Qur’anic verses and Prophetic sayings." i.e. a nice summary of the Koran and Islamic beliefs.

The First Five of the 77 Branches:

      "1. Belief in Allah"

aka as God, Yahweh, Zeus, Jehovah, Mother Nature, etc. should be added to your self-cleansing neurons.

"2. To believe that everything other than Allah was non-existent. Thereafter, Allah Most High created these things and subsequently they came into existence."

Evolution and the Big Bang or the "Gi-b G-nab" (when the universe starts to recycle) are more plausible and the "akas" for Allah should be included if you continue to be a "crea-tionist".

"3. To believe in the existence of angels."

A major item for neuron cleansing. Angels/de-vils are the mythical creations of ancient civilizations, e.g. Hitt-ites, to explain/define natural events, contacts with their gods, big birds, sudden winds, protectors during the dark nights, etc. No "pretty/ug-ly wingy thingies" ever visited or talked to Mohammed, Jesus, Mary or Joseph or Joe Smith. Today we would classify angels as f–airies and "tin–ker be-lls". Modern de-vils are classified as the de-mons of the de-mented.

"4. To believe that all the heavenly books that were sent to the different prophets are true. However, apart from the Quran, all other books are not valid anymore."

Another major item to delete. There are no books written in the spirit state of Heaven (if there is one) just as there are no angels to write/publish/distribute them. The Koran, OT, NT etc. are simply books written by humans for humans.

Prophets were invented by ancient scribes typically to keep the un-educated masses in line. Today we call them for-tune tellers.

Prophecies are also invali-dated by the natural/God/Allah gifts of Free Will and Future.

"5. To believe that all the prophets are true. However, we are commanded to follow the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings
      be upon him) alone."

Mohammed spent thirty days "fasting" (the Ramadan legend) in a hot cave before his first contact with Allah aka God etc. via a "pretty wingy thingy". Common sense demands a neuron deletion of #5. #5 is also the major source of Islamic vi-olence i.e. turning Mohammed's "fast, hunger-driven" hallu-cinations into horrible reality for unbelievers.

Walk these Five Steps and we guarantee a complete recovery from your Islamic ways!!!!

Unfortunately, there are not many Muslim commentators/readers on this blog so the "two-minute" cure is not getting to those who need it. If you have a Muslim friend, send him a copy and help save the world.

Analogous steps are available at your request for deprogramming the myths of Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Paganism..

      Adam
And no rational reading of the gospels would make one think that Jesus was encouraging people to become rich, or warriors in powerful armies, but there are millions of Christians who believe when their mullahs tell them otherwise.

I have strong desires if you know what I mean and hopefully one day, we'll have about 25 little ones in our home. We live In the Big Apple, NY, so one day we'll be majority. My 5 brothers are also happy here in land of the free. All have 4 wives already and all white of course. It's our weakness what can I say. I am the odd one out because I only have three.
