Pope names six new cardinals with global flavor

By the CNN Wire Staff

Rome (CNN) – Pope Benedict XVI appointed six new cardinals in a special ceremony at St. Peter's Basilica on Saturday, all of them from countries outside Europe.

One of those elevated to the College of Cardinals was American Archbishop James M. Harvey, who currently serves as prefect of the papal household, according to Vatican Radio.

The others were Bechara Boutros Rai, a Maronite patriarch from Lebanon; Baselios Cleemis Thottunkal, an Indian archbishop and head of the Syro-Malankara Church; Archbishop John Olorunfemi Onaiyekan of Abuja, Nigeria; Archbishop Ruben Salazar Gomez of Bogota, Colombia; and Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle of Manila, Philippines.

During the ceremony each received the traditional red hat, or "biretta," gold ring and a document with the name of the cardinal's titular church in Rome.

In the Gospel of Truth, it states, "Jesus found the scribes to be ignorant and foul smelling..."

These men were his employees and Jesus showed a discernible dislike for them. Perhaps out of jealousy that they were educated where he was not.

The text goes on to say, "...and Jesus thought not of the female form, and from heaven came to remove ignorance"

Again giving weight to the common thinking that Jesus was a homosexual

The Gnostic Gospel of Thomas says that Jesus talked to the disciples about turning May Magdalene into a man, so she would be worthy of entry to the group. Sounds mighty fishy.

      November 24, 2012 at 11:27 pm |
  6. Dr. D. Johnson

In my research I have found that Mary Magdalene was in fact both consort and wife. A consort was simply a companion. If you read the scriptures, you will find that in the late BE and early CE, it was actually possible to both be married and single simultaneously.

    How you ask?

You must refer to the Gnostic versus attributed to Phillip who said, "Be it spouse or alone, we are only that which our threshold allows on the Sabbath."

Loosely translated it means a woman can be beholden to a man one day, and quite free the next. This makes polygamy possible without breaking God's law against Adultery.

There is much that does not get told in popular biblical academia.

For example, Jesus tells us that his father and mother "have not spaketh a single word in two years plus three. This sounds like a man scorned to me.

How can we prove marital troubles in the home of Jesus? Reading from Mary (Magdalene), she says, "when Joseph's gaze met mine I felt a burning deep within...." She goes on to discuss Jesus' jealousy and rage.

Is it possible Joseph never forgave Mother Mary for her affair, and Joseph and Jesus were competing for Mary Magdalene’s affection?

    • Dr. D. Johnson

Did you know that in the Gospel of Thomas, it is written that Jesus relied heavily on Thomas saying, "...it is a weary day dream that Thomas earns great victory in quenching the thirst of my people."

It was incorrectly translated from the Coptic to mean that "Thomas the Contender" was a champion for Jesus, when in fact; Jesus was referring to Thomas' ability to mix wine-based cocktails! We often joke that he should have been called, "Thomas the Bartender".

I have spent a great deal of my professional life in the study of the Gnostic Gospels. As it turns out, the majority of “prophets” contributing to these scriptures was quite illiterate and most likely drew pictures to explain their wisdom.

Needless to say, transcribing pictographs to verse was a tough task for the monks in those early centuries.

Moreover, Jesus was the worst of the lot. This poor man could not even draw stick figures in the sand and apparently could not be trusted with anything sharp enough to draw with. As the story goes, Jesus would have to play a primitive form of "charades" while his scribes tried to guess his meaning.

Most scholars agree that this is why these books were omitted from the Holy Bible.

The evidence would suggest that Judas, Mary, Jesus and others spent a great deal of their down time reflecting on the spiritual dichotomy of the soul vs. the physical and how that relates to the teachings of God.

Why did they do this? Jesus was attracted to Buddhism and often rested his decisions on the non-bias imaginings of one who would make sacrifice in this life only to be reborn in the next.

In short, Jesus was a Jew by birth, but not by practice. He taught his own flavor of Buddhism and his closest disciples, Judas and Mary for example, were quite sure he was a snake in a previous life.

      Certainly Akira.

Jesus was quite real, and quite human. Even Timothy and Philip knew the true nature of Christ, as evidenced in this passage from the Gospel of Philip, "...and our Lord came unto me and witnessed as I behaved without intimidation."

Scholars believe this is evidence of group sexual activity, common place at this time in history among men afield.

      November 24, 2012 at 8:01 pm |
    • Dr. D. Johnson

Well Akira, I must say it is wonderful to have such an attentive student for a change.

Jesus never actually said he believed in God. In fact, if you read the Bible you will learn that Jesus actually believed in what he called, "The Divine".

What does this mean? Jesus, while inarticulate and a bit clumsy in general, had an excellent grasp of the fundamentals of what the Native Americans call, "Mother Earth" and what it is to be a "Human Being".

      How do we know this?

Look at the teachings of Jesus in the Gnostic literature that relates to being reborn as a Snake, a Lizard, and a Spider. Why did Jesus feel he was reincarnated; and why these animals and insects? That is easy if you read the Gospel of Mary.

Mary had many pet names for her lover and among them were Snake, Lizard, and Spider. Snake and Lizard I can understand, but the passages relative to Spider are less clear.

Oh really. Maybe the church which says it's the church of scripture and tradition will actually some day get back to electing their leaders like the early church did, instead of the early Renaissance practice of appointing them.
Or maybe they could get back to the other Catholic tradition of them buying their offices, or even the Papacy.

    November 24, 2012 at 4:16 pm |
  20. Colin

Ten Signs you are a Catholic.

    1. You believe in mind reading. You believe that if you think silent thoughts like, “please God, help me pass my exam tomorrow,” a god will read your mind and, if it is so disposed, will intervene to alter the course of history in small ways to answer your prayer.

    2. You believe that an immortal, invisible, all-knowing, all-powerful being is supervising you 24 hours a day, every day of your lives, so it can decide whether to reward you or punish you in an afterlife.

    3. You believe that this same god impregnated a virgin with himself, to give birth to himself and then sacrifice himself to himself to “forgive” an original sin of a couple that we now all know never existed.

    4. You believe that grocery store bread and wine becomes the actual flesh and blood of a dead Jew from 2,000 years ago because a priest does some hocus-pocus over it in church of a Sunday morning.

    5. You believe that the pope is infallible when he speaks “from the chair” on church matters. Thus, he can make any ridiculous pronunciation that is not supported by any evidence, such as the immaculate conception of the Virgin Mary and be immune to challenge.

    6. You base your beliefs about Jesus on nothing more than highly 4 highly suspect gospels written between 40 and 60 years after Jesus died by people who don't even claim to have been witnesses and whom you know absolutely nothing about.

    7. You place great weight on something being true because it is “in the Bible,” ignoring that the Bible is full of supersti.tious nonsense like people living to be hundreds of years old, a worldwide flood within the last 10,000 years, witches, a talking snake, a talking donkey and a man living inside a whale’s belly.

    8. You likely have absolutely no idea who wrote the many books of the Bible, why you should believe what they say or how either the old or new testaments came to be. You likely haven’t the foggiest idea who decided what was included in the Bible and what was not or why.

    9. You think that an immortal being created the entire universe and its billions of galaxies, EACH with billions of stars and planets, sat back and waited 13,720,000,000 years and then created human beings so he could “love” them and cause them to continue living after they died.

    10. You believe that those who reject the above utter nonsense will burn for all eternity in hell. I don’t have to kill, I don’t have to rob, hell, I don’t even have to litter. All I need do is hold an honest and reasonable opinion that the above beliefs are nonsense and God will inflict a grotesque eternal torture on me a billion times worse than the death penalty. And he loves me.

    11. You ignore science and reality whenever it is inconsistent with your silly superst.itions until it is proven by evidence so overwhelming that it cannot be sanely dismissed. This is why it took you so long to accept Galileo and Darwin and why, even today, you ignore the compelling science that ho.mo$exuality is genetic. Yet you will accept your own extraordinary claims based on absolutely no evidence whatsoever.

Oh heck, I couldn't fit them into ten and I was only hunting the low hanging fruit.
