I pray that President Chavez will have a speedy recovery.

Chavez has been generous to the poor and helpless in his country.

Chavez provided free heating oil to poor American citizens.

Thank you Cuban Christians for praying for mercy and good health for President Chavez.

    1 Timothy 1,

8 We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. 9 We also know that law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10 for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine 11 that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.

Not to mention, on This Just In, you constantly critisize poor people as a drain on you; this begs the question: will the real Philip Douglas please stand up??

      Akira,

Relax...I'm the Douglas who urges LGBTQ to be celibate.

I am not Philip Douglas. I am the real Douglas.

Liar. You are Philip Douglas, and continuing to deny it shows what a dishonest man you are.

  3. Reality

Free Will and Future are inherent to all the thinking beings in the Universe. This being the case, it is not possible to alter life with prayers. Statistically, your request might come true but it is simply the result of the variability/randomness of Nature..

So put down your rosaries and prayer beads and stop worshiping/revering cows or bowing to Mecca five times a day or revering H. Chavez. Instead work hard at your job, take care of aging parents, volunteer at a soup kitchen, donate to charities and the poor and continue to follow the proper rules of your religion or any good rules of living as gracious and good human beings.

A million hands in prayer aren't worth two hands hard at work.

Unclasp your hands, get up off your knees, think for yourself - now go outside and put those hands to use helping your brothers and sisters. Congratulations - you're now a better person.

Many of us believe in prayer, but that doesn't mean we also should not put our hands to work as well. Your post suggests that you don't believe in God. I understand that. It is a matter of faith. But if I may ask, is there anyone that you love? If so, you must believe in love. How does one prove that love exists?

This is a really stupid arguement.
Unless you are claiming that your god is an emotion and not a living being.

We know love exists because everyone has had the experience. We can see it in species throughout the world.

We do not have the same thing with god. You beleive there is, but have no logical reason to believe. (i'm not trying to be insulting, merely pointing out that faith is a requirement, faith taking the place of logic and reason)

There is no evidence that your god, or the thousands of gods that were worshipped before yours ever existed.

Richard, interesting points, but evasive of the question. Saying you have "had the experience" is not acceptable proof in most circles, of the existence of an emotion. What we see in the species is conduct, but we cannot prove the existence of or quantify love. Heck, even describing it is hard to do, for most of us. And the feeling of love may not be as universal as you suggest.

Faith is a prerequisite to believing in love... until you have loved. You are absolutely correct that there is no evidence of the existence of God apart from faith. I only suggested (and I don't it has been refuted yet) that their is no scientifically accepted evidence (unless you count feelings as evidence, and if so, that should be evidence of God, too) for the existence of love.

If you can believe in the existence of love, as I do, it may not prove God's existence (but some would say "God is love.") but it ought to show even non-believers that some things exist apart from our ability to prove it.

New Atheist– I am prepared to be shown that I am wrong, but simply calling my argument stupid doesn't do that. If I call your non-belief stupid, does that show that there is a God?

      Go to
      http://chemistry.about.com/od/valentinesdaychemistry/a/Love-Chemicals.htm
for the chemicals and reactions involved in the feeling of love. There's a lot more we can do as well. Brain scans can show the different parts of the brain that flare up when people describe themselves as "being in love". It is indeed quantifiable.

Is the Christian definition of love the same as an emotion?

I'm sorry, "truth be told", but your repeated assertions regarding atheism are unfounded. Using my Idiomatic Expression Equivalency module (IEE), the expression that best matches the degree to which your repeated unfounded assertions may represent truths is: "EPIC FAIL". Perhaps the following book can help you cope with the problem of repeating unfounded assertions:

I'm Told I Have Dementia: What You Can Do... Who You Can Turn to...

I don't know if this is an urban legend or not, but in the 60's the CIA planned to project a hologram of the Virgin Mary before they invaded Cuba. Just an observation.
