Papal historian Christopher Bellitto discusses Pope Benedict XVI's decision to resign
The problem here is whether the Pope is retiring. Great benefits would be done to mankind if Christianity returns to the teachings of Christ. Christ was teaching the relationship of the soul with the World of Life that he called the 'Kingdom of God'. The only historical record of his teaching was discovered in Egypt in 1945. His movement was called 'Belong to the Way' similar to the Taoism of China (know the Supreme Reason of the System), and Yoga of India. Christ must have got training in this from the Brahmins who lived in Swat Valley- now it is in Pakistan. Malala who was shot recently by the Taliban is from Swat Valley. Christ's contemporary Apollonius of Tyana (AD 15-100), a popular contemporary of Christ, travelled to meet Indian Brahmins in search of knowledge. Tyana refers to Anatolia (Asia Minor), the Asian part of Turkey. Apollonius travelled to met the Brahmins in Swat Valley of the present Pakistan. Here is the account of Apollonius meeting them recorded by historian Philostratus (Greece, BCE ~170- 250). A member of the community is reported thus: "We know everything, just because we begin by knowing ourselves; for no one of us would be admitted to this philosophy unless he first knew himself." ‘Know the self’ means regaining the sensibility of the soul that we get with life for our moral guidance. It has two implications.
All religions should give importance to 'Know Thyself' for bringing sanity into life. Now they preach knowldge of external things. Consequently people have lost their souls.

Earth From Space No God(s) required
Detailed satellite images reveal the web of connections that sustain life on Earth. Aired February 13, 2013 on PBS
"Earth From Space" is a groundbreaking two-hour special that reveals a spectacular new space-based vision of our planet. Produced in extensive consultation with NASA scientists, NOVA takes data from earth-observing satellites and transforms it into dazzling visual sequences, each one exposing the intricate and surprising web of forces that sustains life on earth. Viewers witness how dust blown from the Sahara fertilizes the Amazon; how a vast submarine "waterfall" off Antarctica helps drive ocean currents around the world; and how the sun's heating up of the southern Atlantic gives birth to a colossally powerful hurricane. From the microscopic world of water molecules vaporizing over the ocean to the magnetic field that is bigger than Earth itself, the show reveals the astonishing beauty and complexity of our dynamic planet.
noble? what a joke. it would have been noble if he had held accountable all the child molesters he's hidden in the church ranks over the years. it would be noble if they said they would stop defending the molesters and start giving police and prosecutors all the help they need to put those monsters away. noble because he's stepping down? lol, i don't think so.
if guilty beyond reasonable doubt.. so be it... if not... this is just a speculative matter...
I thought you liked gays, why are you hating on gay priests then? Atheists! smh
I am truly sorry for all my sins...I am greatly saddened to hear of the resignation, but as a woman with little strength myself, i truly understand how he feels. I believe he should still sit on an advisory counsel called the casting of christ holy crowns, and be in world view for future retirees...to not become confined or inactive or unconcerened. I love you Pope Benedict!
I have noted several comments that seem to be anti-Catholic, anti-Christian, and even anti-religious. I don't understand why anyone who is against Catholicism, Christianity or religion in general would comment on this story. Everyone is free to pursue whatever religious beliefs, if any, they choose. There is no need to be rude and disrespectful to those who do not share your beliefs.
It is a Belief Blog, not a Religion Blog.
People are free to comment on anything they choose to.
this isn't a pro-christianity blog - go find that on christianmingle.com. this is a blog about opinions on religion, positive and negative. you are advocating censorship. like only hearing your own views repeated over and over? go to church.
nor is there reason to blather empty proxy threats, but that does not stop christians from doing so.
@ littlebigmouth: Don't let the anti Catholic bigots bother you. They lack spiritual faith, yet sense the need for it. They are lashing out.
Noble my butt. Popey is making sure his hard liner ideology continues in his successor. He is gaming the system. He is playing politics.
Noble. Only a zealot would buy into the veneer of BS.
Has anything improved with Christianity since 200+ years ago?
Thomas Jefferson, POTUS #3 (from Notes on the State of Virginia):
Millions of innocent men, women, and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined, imprisoned; yet we have not advanced one inch towards uniformity. What has been the effect of coercion? To make one half the world fools, and the other half hypocrites. To support roguery and error all over the earth.
James Madison, POTUS #4, chief architect of the U.S. Constitution & the Bill of Rights (from A Memorial and Remonstrance delivered to the Virginia General Assembly in 1785):
During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What has been its fruits? More or less in all places, pride and indolence in the clergy; ignorance and servility in the laity; in both, superstition, bigotry, and persecution.
John Adams, POTUS #2 (in a letter to Thomas Jefferson, 09/03/1816):
I almost shudder at the thought of alluding to the most fatal example of the abuses of grief which the history of mankind has preserved – the Cross. Consider what calamities that engine of grief has produced! With the rational respect that is due to it, knavish priests have added prostitutions of it, that fill or might fill the blackest and bloodiest pages of human history.
Ben Franklin (from a letter to The London Packet, 3 June 1772):
If we look back into history for the character of present sects in Christianity, we shall find few that have not in their turns been persecutors, and complainers of persecution. The primitive Christians thought persecution extremely wrong in the Pagans, but practised it on one another. The first Protestants of the Church of England, blamed persecution in the Roman church, but practised it against the Puritans: these found it wrong in the Bishops, but fell into the same practice themselves both here and in New England.
Thomas Paine (from The Age of Reason):
All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit.
Over 40,000 denominations of insanity commits the Quoting Out of Context Fallacy.
He is only committing the out of contest fallacy if the full context would alter the meaning of the quote. If the quote represents the idea that the author is trying to convey then no fallacy is committed.
Prayer changes things
Prayer does not; you are such a LIAR. You have NO proof it changes anything! A great example of prayer proven not to work is the Christians in jail because prayer didn't work and their children died. For example: Susan Grady, who relied on prayer to heal her son. Nine-year-old Aaron Grady died and Susan Grady was arrested.
An article in the Journal of Pediatrics examined the deaths of 172 children from families who relied upon faith healing from 1975 to 1995. They concluded that four out of five ill children, who died under the care of faith healers or being left to prayer only, would most likely have survived if they had received medical care.
The statistical studies from the nineteenth century and the three CCU studies on prayer are quite consistent with the fact that humanity is wasting a huge amount of time on a procedure that simply doesn’t work. Nonetheless, faith in prayer is so pervasive and deeply rooted, you can be sure believers will continue to devise future studies in a desperate effort to confirm their beliefs!
