Pope Benedict addresses priests of Rome

By Laura Smith-Spark and Hada Messia, CNN

Rome (CNN) - Pope Benedict XVI addressed parish priests from the city of Rome on Thursday, in what is likely to be one of his final public appearances before his resignation from the papacy at the end of the month.

The meeting with the parish priests focused on Benedict's experiences from the Second Vatican Council, in the 1960s, which examined the Roman Catholic Church's relationship with the world.

Benedict, who was greeted by lengthy applause, said it was a "special moment" to sit before the clergy of Rome before his departure.

Benedict, 85, celebrated his last public papal Mass at St. Peter's Basilica on Ash Wednesday, which marked the beginning of Lent.

.catholics will deflect discussion of abuse with small percent?>? Where do they get there data from? The church? I get mine from victims and victim groups directly. We have nearly 20% abused and nearly 50% of those are pedos. In fact no other group has such a high % of pedos as this one.

    Catholics deflect and deceive.

so catholics, tell us all here. What did the catholic church do to set the good example to help children victims? NOTHING. In fact they covered up the crimes to protect themselves and their reputation, leaving the child to fend for themselves. Many children developed mental illness due to the abuse.

And the catholic church continues to harm children victims as they lobby to stop laws that would expose the truth. Imagine that!!!

The worst crimes were the cover ups.

Stop deflecting by saying others did it too.

–>> Start acting like an adult and addressing what the catholic church has done to help children victims. <<- answer that question.

The historically unprecedented resignation of Joseph Ratzinger as Pope this week was compelled by an upcoming action by a European government to issue an arrest warrant against Ratzinger and a public lien against Vatican property and assets by Easter.

I don't think it's just a matter of having the prowess of an 8th grader–I think tbt is, in reality, an 8th grader. He's 28, lives in his mom's spare bedroom, and is still trying to pass Algebra I. Oh, and freshman English–but that doesn't count, because he'll NEVER manage to get anything above a D there.

catholics also need to quit bragging about doing good works. Most everyone does good works and that includes atheists too. In fact people do good works with their own money and time, not government grants and other peoples time as the catholic church does.

Some "good" works attributed to atheists. atheists have brutally tortured and murdered more innocent peoples in the last 100 years than were killed in all previous centuries. Another "good" work of the so called atheist... denying children eternal life and condemning the innocent to perdition. Or how about the "good" work of abortion over 200 million innocent babies slaughtered. And let us not forget that nothing any so called atheist says is ever the Truth. HEY atheist STOP HELPING US !

    to cathoics;

you've done nothing about the crimes or care for the lost lives of children. Or that the church didn't to the rescue of small children abused.

Your desire to claim you feed the hungry or are against abortions is silly when compared to the destruction of childrens lives. Do you know the effects of trauma on children? Do you realize the lives of chaos and destruction they lead due to mental inabilities to access reasoning due to the trauma caused? Do you know the pain of awakening from a childhood trauma many years into the future and now realizing you never lived your life? Do you know that even after awakening from the trauma caused, that the mental illness is life long? Do you know that a child victim has a life expectancy of 20 years less?

A horrible life where learning and concentration are lost and a likely short life to live. These are the children you don't take a stand and demand they receive the truth, in courts.

Then again, you don't really care. I don't pray and don't believe,, but I will take one moment now and pray – I pray there is a hell and all practicing catholics go there. It is their lack of care for the child abused and their lack of demanding accountability which gives the catholic church the strength to continue denying victims.

Imagine, catholics that you grew up with reject you and don't stand for up for you. Instead they deflect and help the catholic church continue its denials and lies.

God in Quran says, (Islamic scripture)

“They even attribute to Him sons and daughters, without any knowledge. Be He glorified. He is the Most High, far above their claims.” Quran [6:100]

“The example of Jesus, as far as GOD is concerned, is the same as that of Adam; He created him from dust, then said to him, "Be," and he was.” Quran [3:59]

‘They said, "You have to be Jewish or Christian, to be guided." Say, "We follow the religion of Abraham – monotheism – he never was an idol worshiper." [2:135]

“Proclaim, He is the One and only GOD. The Absolute GOD. Never did He beget. Nor was He begotten. None equals Him." [112:1]

The Messiah, son of Mary is no more than a messenger like the messengers before him, and his mother was a saint. Both of them used to eat the food. Note how we explain the revelations for them, and note how they still deviate! [5:75]

It does not befit God that He begets a son, be He glorified. To have anything done, He simply says to it, "Be," and it is. [19:35]

“No soul can carry the sins of another soul. If a soul that is loaded with sins implores another to bear part of its load, no other soul can carry any part of it, even if they were related. ... [35:18]

They do not value God as He should be valued. God is the Most Powerful, the Almighty.[22:74]

If you obey the majority of people on earth, they will divert you from the path of God. They follow only conjecture; they only guess. [Quran 6:116]

“There shall be no compulsion in religion: the right way is now distinct from the wrong way. Anyone who denounces the devil and believes in God has grasped the strongest bond; one that never breaks. God is Hearer, Omniscient.” [2:256]

O people, here is a parable that you must ponder carefully: the idols you set up beside God can never create a fly, even if they banded together to do so. Furthermore, if the fly steals anything from them, they cannot recover it; weak is the pursuer and the pursued. [22:73]

“God: there is no other god besides Him, the Living, the Eternal. Never a moment of unawareness or slumber overtakes Him. To Him belongs everything in the heavens and everything on earth. Who could intercede with Him, except in accordance with His will? He knows their past, and their future. No one attains any knowledge, except as He wills. His dominion encompasses the heavens and the earth, and ruling them never burdens Him. He is the Most High, the Great.” [2:255]

      February 15, 2013 at 8:25 am |
    • Jesus

Prayer does not; you are such a LIAR. You have NO proof it changes anything! A great example of prayer proven not to work is the Christians in jail because prayer didn't work and their children died. For example: Susan Grady, who relied on prayer to heal her son. Nine-year-old Aaron Grady died and Susan Grady was arrested.

An article in the Journal of Pediatrics examined the deaths of 172 children from families who relied upon faith healing from 1975 to 1995. They concluded that four out of five ill children, who died under the care of faith healers or being left to prayer only, would most likely have survived if they had received medical care.

The statistical studies from the nineteenth century and the three CCU studies on prayer are quite consistent with the fact that humanity is wasting a huge amount of time on a procedure that simply doesn’t work. Nonetheless, faith in prayer is so pervasive and deeply rooted, you can be sure believers will continue to devise future studies in a desperate effort to confirm their beliefs!

  20. motive

    1. The vatican accu-mulated wealth though donations while depriving hungry children. Valuable tax free real estate, billions in corporate stock, chair made of gold, wardrobe lined with gold. Yet children are starving world wide. Donations were to feed them, the vatican stole their food money for wealth. 2. Vatican denied children abused by their priests. Rather than helping the child, they hid the crimes, leaving the small child to fend for themselves. Abused children left to cope alone are more likely to experience a physical change in their developing brain. Many children became mentally ill and others commit suicide. And after all this abuse, the catholic church set the example on how to help victims, they lobby to stop laws that would expose the truth. Yet the truth is the greatest healer. This is the vatican, the catholic church.
