The words I quoted from Romans chapter 1:18-26 are not my words; they are from the word of the Living God. It is your God-given choice to agree or disagree. You cannot stop Christians from caring for your soul and praying for you. This is our choice.

here's more words from your living god ...

      Ezekiel 23:20
There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses.

your living god doesn't remember what was said ...

      Jesus' last words

MAT 27:46,50: "And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, eli, lama sabachthani?" that is to say, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" ...Jesus, when he cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost."

LUK 23:46: "And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, "Father, unto thy hands I commend my spirit:" and having said thus, he gave up the ghost."

JOH 19:30: "When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, "It is finished:" and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost."

      God be seen?

      EXO 24:9,10; AMO 9:1; GEN 26:2; and JOH 14:9
      God CAN be seen:
"And I will take away my hand, and thou shalt see my backparts." (EXO 33:23)
"And the Lord spake to Moses face to face, as a man speaketh to his friend." (EXO 33:11)
"For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved." (GEN 32:30)

      God CANNOT be seen:
"No man hath seen God at any time." (JOH 1:18)
"And he said, Thou canst not see my face; for there shall no man see me and live." (EXO 33:20)
"Whom no man hath seen nor can see." (1TIM 6:16)

This is for all the folks on here babbling about how this will ruin the family unit, and how kids need a 'mommy and a daddy', etc.... Well, marriage isn't about having kids. It is about love and commitment. Having children is a choice, married or not. Not all heteros.exual couples have children. Just two people that love each other and want to spend their lives together. Who are any of us to decide who can fall in love with whom? Why do so many of you presume to speak for your god? Is it perhaps because your god fits your world view? Why is your god unable to appear and speak and provide a consistent message to all people? Because gods were created by man, to fit man's needs.

It IS ruining families! And marriage is to procreate something you can't do if you choose to be gay. The Bible is clear that it is wrong. No question about it.

OK all you "Sky Father" worshippers... Why don't you just take your lies and your dogma and your fairy tales that teach you hate, prejudice, bigotry, and small-mindedness and just shut the hell up for ALL our sakes...????

Your childish devotion to an oppressive religion of hate and control is getting in the way of Humanity's forward progress and, frankly, the rest of us are through with you. From here on out, please pray in silence and let your mouth follow suit - no one wants to hear about your false deity or false Messiah anymore...it is a message the world actually DOESN'T need or want.

Jeebus... "but the BIBLE said so!!!" Boo-hoo!!! What are you, six years old??? Think for YOURSELVES you fools!!!

      June 27, 2013 at 9:36 am |
    • Thoth

Marriage is NOT about procreation. It is a commitment to another. In 'biblical times' is was actually a transference of property (girls were sold as property). There are many couples who choose not to have children. There are couples who can't have children for medical reasons. To believe that the sole purpose of marriage is procreation is beyond ignorant.

      @ CN

I'm hetero and have been married for over thirty years. We knew before we were married that we probably didn't want to have children. We never did change our minds. Having children isn't for everyone.

Nearly all of our friends who married and had children are divorced and remarried. Their children had to live through seeing their parent split up, had a parade of potential new mommies and daddies coming through, and got shuttled back and forth between bitter, feuding exes.

Now, please tell me how and why I'm "ruining families" by not procreating.

While you're at it, explain how elderly couples who marry or couples who can't have children are "ruining families".

The only ones weeping are the bigots....the hateful will continue to lose. All over the world, people who believe in equality will win. The fact that in the United States, the so-called bastion of freedom, there are still such venomous gay bashers and haters, shows we still have a long way to go. However, yesterday's decision was a good and very large step in the right direction.

Today there are people who put up anti-science information on internet websites hosted on servers accessed by geosynchronous satellites. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say God's not gonna destroy the world because we decided more marriage is better than less marriage, or that love ought to be given a chance. And can anyone who isn't obviously barking mad show me where the Bible mentions the United States of America or democracy?

Oh, it's coming alright. We haven't seen anything yet. And, not necessarily a hurricane. The destruction will get bigger and more frequent until the nation is bankrupt! 88 And after your testimony cometh wrath and indignation upon the people.
89 For after your testimony cometh the testimony of earthquakes, that shall cause groanings in the midst of her, and men shall fall upon the ground and shall not be able to stand.
90 And also cometh the testimony of the voice of thunderings, and the voice of lightnings, and the voice of tempests, and the voice of the waves of the sea heaving themselves beyond their bounds.
91 And all things shall be in commotion; and surely, men’s hearts shall fail them; for fear shall come upon all people.
92 And angels shall fly through the midst of heaven, crying with a loud voice, sounding the trump of God, saying: Prepare ye, prepare ye, O inhabitants of the earth; for the judgment of our God is come. Behold, and lo, the Bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. (Doctrine and Covenants, Doctrine and Covenants, Section 88)

So wait a minute...You are saying God attacks and destroys us or America depending on if he is displeased with our decisions? What about innocent kids who died in natural disasters? What about massive death in starvation caused by droughts around the world and in history? Do you mean God doesn't just target specific people when we make decisions he doesn't like, he just fires scatter shot over anybody to prove his point? If that is the case, this is the work of a evil dictator worse than Hitler or any human conqueror in history. He doesn't want us to worship him because we love him, he wants us to forever live in constant fear of him. If a guy in the next state kills someone he could just as soon drop a tornado on you and kill you whole family because you live in the same country.

    • The real Tom

Too bad you have no experience that's relevant concerning this topic, honey. But nice try.

Does it never occur to you that there are single women out there who have children via artificial insemination? That the children of gay couples are often adopted? Do you have ANY evidence that such children suffer in any way?

Then cite it. Don't bother with your sappy lyrics, moron.

    • myweightinwords

Two people loved each other enough that they want to make babies together, had to do all of the extra work to do that, and raised them in a home of love and commitment to one another and that is somehow a bad thing?

Children grow up without a father or without a mother, and even without both and turn out fine all the time.

    • The real Tom

I know of two gay couples who have children. They seem to be happy and bright, and don't seem to be suffering from any angst over their atypical families. Studies of the children of gay parents show no difference between them and children of straight couples. Can you produce any statistics to back up your assertions that these kids are somehow adversely affected?
As for knowing the love of a father or a mother, do you have any evidence that a kid growing up with two dads "misses" having a mother? Do you really think that a lesbian couple don't have any male relatives or friends that provide a role model for boys growing up in their families?

    Romans 1:18-
"For the wrath of God is revealed from Heaven against all ungodliness and wickedness of those who by their wickedness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. Ever since the creation of the world His eternal power and divine nature, invisible though they are, have been understood and seen through the things he has made. So they are without excuse; for though they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their senseless minds were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools and they exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling a mortal human being or birds or four-footed animals or reptiles.
Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the degrading of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.
For this reason God gave them up to degrading passions. Their women exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural, and in the same way also the men, giving up natural intercourse with women, were consumed with passion for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in their own persons the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind and to things that should not be done."

Depends on what you consider "wickedness", I suppose? By Jesus's standards, most Christians, even the very conservative ones, would be "wicked" in his eyes for allowing divorce, and not selling everything that they own.

Listen, Sebastian, I am what might be called 100% hetero. I have never felt a s.exual attraction to my same gender. I have never fought any battle against it. I do not feel a bit superior. It's just my makeup. No god necessary. No god sent anything nor gave anyone up to anything nor debased anyone.

Paul of Tarsus was a misogynistic, misanthropic zealot.

And there shall in that time be rumours of things going astray, and there will be a great confusion as to where things really are, and nobody will really know where lieth those little things with the sort of raffia work base, that has an attachment
…at this time, a friend shall lose his friends’s hammer and the young shall not know where lieth the things possessed by their fathers that their fathers put there only just the night before around eight o’clock...

I don't consider that story to be a very good example of morality.
The only person considered by God to be righteous enough to spare would happily have tossed his vir/gin daughters over to a ravenous mob to be ra/ped. The same daughters with whom he later had a drunken, inces/tuous or.gy.

Gee, that's lovely Sebastian, but perhaps you don't understand that your religion has no authority in the laws of this very secular land. You do have the right to worship the bronze age deity of your choice (or even the more modern cults of Joseph Smith or L. Ron Hubbard), but that's where it ends. The laws of this nation are tested against the Constitution, not the bible.

This is a great victory for compassion and reason. Those of us who oppose bigotry and injustice will celebrate.

" Sodom and Gomorah" Their sin was wanting to ra pe the visitors, not minding their own peaceful business. This country has plenty of laws against that kind of violent offense, so what's your problem? Go turn into a pillar of salt or something.

In the 20th century more people were killed by atheists than by any people of faith. Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, and the Kims of Korea killed millions in the name of atheism.

      Chris....

I've seen that argument against atheism so many times. It's wrong, and if you would truly study history you would see that those atrocities were committed for political reasons NOT in the "name of atheism." For atrocities committed in the name of something, please see "Christianity."

It seems Chris is typical, he confuses political paranoia with Atheism. Hey, Chris, find me one shred of proof that says those you mentioned named Atheism as the reason they killed. You need a poli-sci course or two. Over 90% of prisoners in the US identify as Christian, does that mean they committed their crimes in the name of their god? Show me one phrase, one quote, from any of those mentioned, that says they killed because they are Atheists. Good luck

"Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, and the Kims of Korea killed millions in the name of atheism." You don't believe that, and you shouldn't because it isn't true. They were Communists, and "Communism" is a religion. It sure ain't a philosophy, because it's been tried and disproven over and over so many times that only religious fervor explains why people fall for it. NK is the last place it's being used, as it sort of vanished in China. But kid, if you can't tell an atheist unbeliever from a fervent Commie, you should be quiet and let the adults talk while you try to learn who the players are. Buy a program or something.

Begin the fight?....there are many who have been fighting againt atheists for many many decades. Just look at the fifties when everyone was afraid of the "godless communists", and put that lie on our money and took the pledge of allegience away from any of we the people who do not believe in gods. The fight has been going on for years. There are those in this country that would expel atheists if they could, marriage is just another thing they would deny us, and often site that the marriage is not valid because god did not sanction it.

Behind this tendency to treat religion as a side issue in modern life, there exists a strong body of opinion that is actively hostile to Christianity and that regards the destruction of positive religion as absolutely necessary to the advance of modern culture.
And so, today, if the state can no longer appeal to the old moral principles that belong to the Christian tradition, it will be forced to create a new official faith and new moral principles which will be binding on its citizens.
