Twitter theme: Zimmerman will face a higher Judge

By Daniel Burke, CNN Belief Blog Co-Editor

(CNN) - As news spread on social media of the not guilty verdict in the Trayvon Martin case, a religious theme soon emerged: Sooner or later, a higher authority will judge George Zimmerman

Martin's mother, Sybrina Fulton, may have been the first to express a version of this theme:

Football star Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings echoed those words:

That view crossed racial lines. Christopher Epting, an Episcopal bishop in Chicago, simply said:

Joshua Dubois, the former director of the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Initiatives and a Pentecostal pastor, drew on the Bible for this tweet:

Author Shirley Strawberry cited the Bible as well.

Some, like singer Josiah Bell, seemed to take some solace in the idea of divine justice.

But others put a frustrated spin on the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous phrase about morality.

Soul singer Betty Wright drew flak for saying that Zimmerman will end up in hell.

Finally, some Christians noted the irony of this Sunday's Bible reading for many liturgical churches: The story of the Good Samaritan:

According to the law, "Stand your Ground,"George Zimmerman was innocent. All jurors have stated, "this case was not about race."The media is pushing and pushing to make this case about race because it's a good story.

There are so many people saying what God will do to Zimmerman based on their biases and even quoting scripture to back up their biases. For every biblical quote seeming to be against GZ, one can be found for GZ. Yes, God will judge GZ, just like He will judge TM and everyone else, but presuming to know what God will do in this case is foolishness.

Based on the Christian faith, GZ is going to heaven, even if he killed TM for no reason or even if he felt like taking out one of 'them'. Why? Because GZ worships JC as his savior and that is the only requirement to get into heaven. The Christian god cares only about being worshiped and not the character of his subjects.

  4. Just wondering

I know a lot of people are talking about this trial. I was just wondering why? I am sorry for what happened to the young man. The people involved in the trial are not people I know. I do not have any personal ability to affect the outcome of the trial nor do I have influence on the sad events that took place leading up to the trial. What purpose does it serve to follow other people's legal issues? Thank you for explaining.

One more time so that no one misses this....There is no reason to put human beings into categories based on a human beings external appearance.

Its made to seem as if Zimmerman is a monster who was out looking to kill an innocent person. He was doing his job patrolling the neighborhood and it was his duty to see what an unfamiliar person was doing there. Martin didnt have to attack him,and beat him up and bounce him on the sidewalk. Zimmerman shot him in self defense and if he didnt he probably would have been dead. So why should he be made to seem as if he did such an atrocious act and will have to answer for it?. Maybe Martin will also face a higher judge since he was no angel for what he did and his past behavior demonstrates that.

Primitive people had no scientific understanding of consciousness so they invented the "soul" or "spirit." However, modern neurology tells us there isn't some ethereal cloud running around our brains that is "us" (our emotions, memories, mental abilities, etc.), it's an interconnected series of systems, and if you damage one piece you will lose whatever that piece does. You damage one piece, and now you can no longer process smells, or you're blind. You damage another, your long-term memory is gone. Etc.

Therefore, when we die, and all these pieces stop working, the most logical result is that we simple cease to exist. Any other result, such as being transported to some magical kingdom, is just wishful thinking and not supported by any evidence.

The pharisee pols win no matter what. A few years back I read that a murder charge costs a minimum of $! mil to defend. That would put the average guy in slavery the rest of his life.

I didn't hear a peep out of these people when Chris Brown beat up Rhianna. Nor a word from the "black leaders" of J.Cole's insult to people with autism in his rap "Jodeci Freestyle". Get over it already.

Peaceful, loving people hoping someone will be tortured for eternity. Maybe your deity falls for that hypocritical nonsense, but many humans no longer will.

to the prophet Jeremiah He, (The Creator God) said that "burning people" like the pagans were doing had never come up into his heart. (Jer.7:31) so not his idea, just another mistaken translation of what we have to look forward to in the future. for what the Bible really teaches go to jw.org for a free home Bible study.

what is your point? those Jews did not listen while He kept sending His messengers to them but they would not keep the Laws and follow his instructions much like we see today and the end will be the same "as in the days of Noah" Matt.24:36-39 but His plan is not to burn people in an eternal hellfire, just an end.

The ultimate truth is: There is only one God Most High – the Creator. None of us will get out of this world alive. And each of us will answer for our actions without intercessor, be judged according to God's law and be sentenced to whatever eternity He deems appropriate.

The truth is out there... Fight the future!

Ah yes, the most powerful tool of manipulation. Fear. I see its worked its magic on you. Scared little boy. Sorry, but you have no soul to save. There is as much proof that souls exist as there is for the existence of any and all gods since men started inventing them. When you die, you're dead. You won't turn into some spirit and fly to heaven, even if you were a good boy all of your life.
Only little girls believe in fairy tales.

So good to see so many turning to our Father for strength in dealing with this, instead of rioting. I pray it is a sign that the downtrodden and oppressed of this society are seeking a higher court, throwing off the chains of this lying, corrupt world, and no longer letting themselves be manipulated into violence and corruption. Keep the faith in the Messiah, and not on man's corrupt ways. And if we are to be true followers, we must love our enemies while seeking God's higher justice. Pray that Zimmerman's acquittal will lead to his broken and contrite heart-he is not "free" or safe anywhere he goes; pray that God will use this trial and acquittal and all involved in it, including the inflammatory media, to open our eyes to every level of corruption in our land. We must seek the Father at all times and not rely on man, and when we are persecuted for being children of God, our blessings will surpass anything that can be inflicted by those whose hearts are lost.
