Archbishop of Canterbury slaps Episcopal Church for openly gay bishopsRifts within the Anglican Communion could widen after the archbishop of Canterbury, who has condemned the consecration of openly gay bishops, urged a diminished role Friday for the Episcopal Church. Earlier this month, a Los Angeles, California, diocese ordained the Rev. Mary Glasspool, the first openly gay bishop ordained in the church since 2004, when Gene Robinson took his post in New Hampshire. The U.S. church has taken flak from conservative factions for openly gay ordinations. Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, the nominal head of Anglican Communion, shared his concern when Glasspool was consecrated, saying then that the move would further divide the 77 million-member worldwide denomination that includes the Episcopal Church in the United States. On Friday, he made an even stronger statement in a letter to the communion. "Our Anglican fellowship continues to experience painful division, and the events of recent months have not brought us nearer to full reconciliation," Williams wrote. "There are still things being done that the representative bodies of the Communion have repeatedly pleaded should not be done; and this leads to recrimination, confusion and bitterness all round. "It is clear that the official bodies of The Episcopal Church have felt in conscience that they cannot go along with what has been asked of them by others, and the consecration of Canon Mary Glasspool on May 15 has been a clear sign of this." Williams does not have the power to issue edicts like the pope, but he issued a five-page statement suggesting that provinces (such as the Episcopal Church) or national and regional churches that have broken agreed-upon "promises" should step down from participating in interfaith dialogues. He said they should also relinquish decision-making powers in a committee Following Robinson's consecration, the communion leadership laid out
Glasspool has been in an open same-sex relationship for 19 years, a violation of the moratoria. Robinson also was in a same-sex relationship at the time of his consecration. Bishop Ian Douglas of the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut said that while Williams’ statement is “of significance … it’s not as punitive as it might have been.” He said it was an affirmation of the three moratoria, and he made clear that other churches, not just the Episcopal Church in the U.S., will be affected for having broken promises to the communion as well. “Many churches across the Anglican Communion because of conscience or their belief in what the Holy Spirit is up to in their local context have lived beyond the moratoria,” Douglas said. “While the moratoria are still before us, such actions do have some ramifications. … If anything, I question the efficacy of the moratoria.” Douglas also pointed out that not every church is represented on the committees affected by the statement. “It’s not a question of a privilege being taken away but rather a question of can individuals fully represent the Anglican Communion if the church in which they come chooses to go beyond the limits of given moratoria,” he said. “It’s another expression of how we’re trying to live with our differences with integrity and not alienate one another,” Douglas said. “I’m still convinced there’s so much more that unites us.” A spokesman for a conservative Anglican group said, however, that Williams did not go far enough in his rebuke of the Episcopal Church. Robert Lundy of the American Anglican Council said the Episcopal Church shouldn't be involved in any decision-making bodies within the Anglican Communion as long as it continues to ordain openly gay bishops and violate biblical teachings. Williams' statement only keeps the Episcopal Church off of certain committees within the communion, Lundy said. "He [Williams] knows he has to do something because he's under pressure from all sides," he said. "But unfortunately, the step he's taken in our view is not strong enough." Conservative Anglicans have long called for Williams to punish the Episcopal Church by not inviting the church to the Lambeth Conference, a global meeting of Anglican leaders held every decade. Good write-up, IЎ¦m normal visitor of oneЎ¦s site, maintain up the excellent operate, and It's going to be a regular visitor for a lengthy time.
Further, the separation of soul and body, happens about two days after death, at first judgment. Contrary to both Catholic and Masonic myths.... good life and good deeds have absolutely NO bearing on the destination of a soul. Neither does any 'personal relationship' with a non-existent, IMPOSSIBLE name, of anyone, starting with a "J" (his name's Emmanuel-).
The only criteria was, is, and always SHALL be: compliance with HOLY LAW!... no exceptions...
(The Almighty gave the HOLY LAW, He never changed it, nor authorized anyone ELSE to change it!)
BTW: none, WITHOUT a soul, may enter the heavens.
And YES, a soul may be lost-though possessed at birth.
and YES, there are humans, who are BORN without a soul!
and, YES, there is a remedy for the absense of a soul, and almost EVERY violation of HOLY LAW.....
though deathbed conversions, last rites by a (phony) priest, and any of that ""name of ""J"" crappola... is USELESS!
God said: The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.
Atheists, unbelievers and scoffers are like sheep lost in the wilderness. They are blind as bats and deaf as stones....and will remain so unless the Holy Spirit intervenes and they respond. Only then will they be able to hear God's Word, see it, understand it, believe it, be born again of His Spirit, and have a guarantee of everlasting life with God in Heaven....
Anyone care to try this one???
Soul is defined in the best secular books as:
1. The spiritual nature of humans, regarded as immortal, separable from the body at death, and susceptible to happiness or misery in a future state.
2. The disembodied spirit of a dead human.
Which one of you do not believe the English Dictionary???
Any body......Tell me. How did this large ancient star (a red giant) that depleted its hydrogen, exploded and spit out clouds of gas and dust that provided material for our sun and the planets come into existence???.
Not interested to discuss this with anyone...until they answer my question...period.
Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them
Never am I more aware of how inherently hateful we are as humans than when a progressive religious topic comes up like gays in the church. You have got to be kidding me with some of these negative comments. I think someone actually condoned the witch trials. Yes clearly the church found millions of Harry Potters running around casting love spells and flying magical cars, thats why they killed all of those innocent people right!? Not a shred of definitive evidence and they still killed them all. But don't worry, They did it in the name of God, so that makes it ok! (obvious sarcasm)
Live and let live
I have not been to church in a year because I can not accept a gay leading the church. I have no problem with them worshiping there It is left to God to judge but I can not accept them leading the congregation if they do not follow the bible. How can they preach what they do not following theirself.
Gays are born gay..Us straight folks were born straight......some of us chose to be close minded and religious
Atheism4Ever....You poor pathetic soul. Tell me. How did this large ancient star (a red giant) that depleted its hydrogen, exploded and spit out clouds of gas and dust that provided material for our sun and the planets come into existence???.
but Cosno,.. ya put (your) god(s) as the answer to fill any gaps in knowledge? -saying ya don't know something, does not equate to evidence for the deities ya believe in. It is still more likely that any such deities/religions/dogmas is a figment of mankind. =P
Ro 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
And these people are leaders in a Christian denomination!!!!!???? You got to be kidding.....
NOT ALL LUTHERANS agree with this PC crap! The Bible is not interprative and socially relitavistic; it is a one way flow from GOD to man. It is the authoratative and divine word of GOD. Keep your "advanced" 21st century politico/psychobabble opinions away from the Divine. The didn't impress HIM at Babbel, and they don't impress HIM now.
actually the reality is that bible is a one way flow of psychotic dribble, old parables, and moral brainwashing. Just another made up "holy book" & deity, like all the rest. and it all "okay" because you think that there is enough good to justify the bad OR perhaps ya really think it is the infallible word of a higher power because you feel it without need of evidence to the contrary. =/
If all you're thinking about in church is the clergy's sex life, you're missing the message.
To those of you who quote the Bible please give the bibical references, such as the name of the book, chapter and verse.
I thought Jesus felt the old testament rules may be a good way to live, but will not get hou into heaven. So from what I have been taught and read many of you christians have it wrong. Use the old testament to justify your hate, overlook divorce, which Jesus DID talk about
how much is the ring worth?
Adam: ""Bible is prejudiced aginst gays, witches.... etc"""
well, take heart! Hell is prejudiced FOR all those.... they're ALL there, NO EXCEPTIONS, burning in plentiful numbers....
I say, turn up the heat, for the REST, that refuse to adhere to HOLY LAW, and learn!
Right on: PRAISE ZEUS!
absolutely! whenever i am unsure of what to do, i just ask myself, "what would scooby doo?
I just saw this in a post here: "Prejudice does not belong in Church." Well, ok, but you think the Bible belongs in church, right? I'm going to tell you right now that the God of the Bible is prejudiced against gays, witches, people who collect sticks on the sabbath, backt-alking children, insofar as it commands death for all the above. If you have a problem with this hate, then I think you should look at the book(s) that you think God wrote. Here you will find the fountainhead of hate, and the only justification millions of people need to hold it.
Good. The more the church splinters, the weaker it will become and the sooner the demise of organized mythology.
I have been an active Episcopalian all my life. I am proud of the fact that we do include everyone in our church. The only requirement of the central church is that we all use the Book of Common Prayer. That is why from one part of the world to another there are so many diverse peoples. The greatest church growth in numbers is in Africa where Anglicans are murdered and persecuted on a regular basis by the Muslims for the pro gay policies of their Episcopalian cousins in North America. The Archbishop of Canterbury must be a leader to the folks in Nigeria as much as he has to minister to the folks in North America. Episcopalians are the minority in the Anglican Community compounding the problem. Many times it is a debate over trading lives in Africa for gay rights in North America. Churches have been used as a bully pulpit for human rights since Jesus Christ, but it sure isn't easy. I pray for the future of my wonderful church and it great leaders.
