Sexy nun too far for Lady Gaga?

Lady Gaga appears in costumes resembling a nun's habit in the video "Alejandro."

Tough story to ignore this week, it's one that's making noise across the religious blogosphere.

Lady Gaga's exceptionally long music video (which apparently people still make) "Alejandro" uses a lot of Catholic imagery - including Gaga dressed up as a sexy nun in a shiny red and white habit and eating a rosary.

Another pop star, Katy Perry, had this to say on her Twitter account:

Using blasphemy as entertainment is as cheap as a comedian telling a fart joke.

When Katy Perry, whose big hit is "I Kissed a Girl," tweets that your music video is crossing the line into blasphemy, you may be in trouble.

Perry told a French radio station over the weekend she is a big Gaga fan, but:

I think sometime spirituality and sexuality are separate things, and when you put them together it gets interesting for some people.

  2. confusedddd about article.

lady gaga is not catholic! this article is wrong. she is anti-christ. i searched it up. she has symbols in this video and its more than just dressing up. shes sending a message about anti-christ. theres an upside down cross (which is anti christ) and theres an upside down cross on her crotch!!! she is not catholic. she also eats the cross, like she is eating God. look it up please. but thats her religion, i dont care, i still like her. everyone has their own opinions...

I'm a Christian and a Catholic. We're the proper Christians, not one of those weird, wacky off-shoot Protestant sects in America or somewhere!
I'm cool with Gaga, I like her as an artist, she's a fellow Catholic and I'll cut her some slack. This time, Gaga.
Even Madonna knew when to give it up. As for religion, everyone should be free to believe or not. No compulsion nowadays, we're not Muslims, we've moved on! Anyway, Gaga's 'nun' outfit reminds me of Joan of Arc or a Crusader. The Crusades weren't all bad. They were a response to Islamic expansion and violence. How do you think Islam spread? By the sword, of course. Europe has had to fight Islam many times in the past.
PS, are Protestants, like your Mormons, Anglicans, Evangelicals, Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians, etc, real Christians or not?!?

  5. Interesting

Saying sexy nun would mean that Gaga is sexy. And that is just not true at all.

  6. Yeah Right!

I am a christian, and not just by baptism, but by belief as well... when muslims all over the world acted all bizarre when somebody drew their prophet (they don't like this) I said "Freedom of speach", I will employ the same expression here, I don't apply double standards!

I think the costume looks neat, but eating a rosary just sounds creepy.

Making fun of any religion, whether you're a believer or not, is like walking on very thin ice. And by the way,
Mr. Jonathan Hanemann, we will not see a parody of Islam...if Gaga is smart. The Muslims do not put up with
that sort of thing. Too bad you apparently do. Who needs you?

Will we see equal parody of Islam? No. Why? Because, like most cowards, Lady Gaga goes for the easy targets.

um.... what about katy perry's blatant disrespect to the queer community everywhere..... its nice that a straight girl can exploit my way of life, but yet, lady gaga is wrong in using catholic idols...? which the bible is against? odd.

lady gaga is the best damn thing to come out since the microwave! instant hit, and HOT!

    go lady go!

I found her awful Mo bowl cut hair was more offensive than any outfit in the video. The whole video is pretentious homoerotic cold war drag crap, in my opinion. It's not "visionary" or artistic when you have gun boobs. It makes you a fembot.

Controversy sells. If you got nothing else, you might as well push the thing you can sell.

Wether you believe in the Savior or not, this is just bad music. Don't let your kids see movies or music in this day and age because all it does is send a bad message. Soulja Boy becomes a millionaire for singing about, "cranking women every day." It is just sickening.

I'm sorry, but Madonna has already gone this far and i was really expecting more. When Lady Gaga has done the pope in drag with a chorus of Franciscan monks dressed as late-war SS troopers burning the Koran then i think she will have hit the border. Until then i'm afraid that she is underachieving and will have to step up her game. Just sayin..

I'm so exhausted by the utter and complete ignorance and lack of sophistication people show when it comes to pop cultural "blasphemy." Madonna did this almost a quarter of a century ago, as has been noted (but then, Katy Perry is what, 21?). Also, nobody Google "nunsploitation." Really. Dirty sexy nuns have never been a thing before; Lady Gaga made them up just now!
