'Son of Hamas' faces deportation

Mosab Hassan Yousef turned his back on his family, his fellow Palestinians and his religion when he allegedly became a spy for Israel.

Yousef is the son of Sheikh Hassan Yousef, one of the most prominent Hamas figures in the West Bank.  Now, the younger Yousef reportedly faces deportation to the Palestinian territory – something that his supporters say could result in his assassination.

Yousef converted from Islam to Christianity before coming to the United States in 2007, where he applied for political asylum.  He was denied that request last year.  Yousef recently published his autobiography, "Son of Hamas," in which he says he was an Israeli spy for a decade.

His claims have been refuted by Hamas, the Palestinian while other analysts say he may be exaggerating.

Watch CNN's interview with Mosab Hassan Yousef

Recently, the U.S.-based Institute on Religion & Democracy expressed its concern over reports that Yousef could be sent back to the West Bank.  His initial deportation hearing is on June 30, according to the IRD.

The director of IRD's Religious Liberty Program, Faith J.H. McDonnell, said Yousef is a key ally and "a great source of help in understanding what we face in radical Islam."

“The Department of Homeland Security is intent upon deporting as a ‘terrorist’ the man who protected and saved many lives, including those of Americans working for USAID," McDonnell said.

“We are concerned because of the irrationality of the Department of Homeland Security, as well as the danger to Yousef’s life, if he is deported. This threat of deportation says how little the United States government understands radical Islam and the global jihad to impose Islam around the world, to which Yousef testifies."

McDonnell urged Christian groups to contact the Department of Homeland Security's senior attorney in San Diego, California - where his case is being handled - to try to stop the deportation proceedings.

Cheri Ford.. Who is talking about sending him back to Hamas? Just send him back to Israel. He is an Israeli spy after all, and not a US spy. You tell everyone that they don't know what they are talking about. It seems that you think that you are the only smart one around here. I personally think that your faith has made you naive, and your judgements are subjective. He is a traitor, universally known for being the scum of the earth no matter their origin, face, etc. Say tomorrow he decides to revert to Islam, does that mean that he will have to spy on the US to be true to his faith?

UK, I'm sorry for insulting you. I don't think I'm very smart, and I may even be naive. If I'm naive, however, it's not because of my faith. In any case, I've read the book, I pray for the man. I feel I've seen his heart, and I feel his case warrants compassion. I can't believe you would call someone a traitor for saving perhaps thousands of innocent Israelis from all kinds of bombings inside Israel. He did Israel a great service and also likely did the Palestinians a great service by sparing them the wrath of Israeli retaliation for Hamas mayhem. I see him as a hero, not a traitor. If you were in a street gang that murdered innocent passersby on the street and got fed up with it and turned them in, would you consider yourself a traitor? Killing people is evil; saving people is heroic.

If he is a son of Hamas he should be handed over to Hamas,If he is a spy for Israel he should be handed over to Israel, there are many peace loving Christians in Palestine and in Israel. why do they have to dump waste in American soil, i have read his book and i didn't find any link between this guy and USA.

And following your reasoning, he should die. Because that is the truth of the situation. You do not know people who's fathers, mothers and families have been killed by Muslim brothers because they became Christian. Returning to Israel or Palestine guarantees his death. Thank you for your lack of humanity and caring response. Expand your vision to see what this really means, for this one man. We can not save everyone, but if we save one, we have saved a world.

Returning to Israel doesn't mean death... don't be silly.

Returning him to Palestine on the other hand is a BAD IDEA...

Israel has a method of making sure its spies stay loyal to Israel. If you betray Israel, your whole family will be executed. Unless the US adopts this same method, the US can't be sure of getting any loyalty.

After the death of so many CIA agents at the hands of a Jordanian double agent, the US no longer trusts any defectors. There are many "defectors" who are just pretending to be so. Since you can't differentiate genuine defectors from fake ones, it is better to assume that all defectors are not genuine. If Yousef is a genuine defector, too bad for him when he is deported because he will definitely be killed. However, if Yousef is a double agent, the US will have succeeded in eliminating a foreign spy from within its ranks. This is the dilemma in the world of espionage – who can you really trust?

It is all about the real world and pointing out the flaws in the history and theology of the major religions.

To wit: For Umme Omar and all male Muslims who have not read the koran, a book of mythical revelations made by a mythical angel named Gabriel to one, warmongering Arab named Mohammed:

Mohammed could not have known the size of the world, but several passages in the Koran show that he envisioned Islam dominating all of it, however large it might be: “He it is who sent his messenger . . . that he may cause it [Islam] to prevail over all religions´(Koran 9:33, M.M. Ali; see also 48:28 and 61:9). M.M. Ali designates these three passages as “the prophecy of the ultimate triumph of Islam in the whole world.”

Mohammed’s successors, the caliphs, quoted passages like these to inspire Muslim armies as they advanced out of Arabia, imposing Islam by the sword upon a peacefully unsuspecting Middle East and North Africa.

    • The reality of Reality

'Umme' is an Arabic word, which is used numerous times in Quran means 'mother'. Umme Omar is not a man. A person who does not know the meaning of 'Umme' cannot understand Arabic, how can he/she read Quran? it is almost like saying a person writes a review of Shakespeare's Hemlot althought he does not know what a simple word like 'Mother' means in English. Just like Shakespearian English is very complicated english, Quran's Arabic is also very complicated. You really need to learn the Arabic to be able to comprehend it, or other choice (which does not even get close) is to read translation compiled by a Muslim scholar who has both excellent knowledge of quran, Arabic, Hadeeth and Sunnah (Traditions of the Prophet) I said 'Muslim' so that you can only take a Muslim scholar who actually practices Islam. Not somebody who uses his or her own opinion or is racist against Islam or its Prophet in any manner. I rest my case. My name is Umme Omar and I am using this name 'The reality of reality' just to make my point. Reality has no knowledge of Quran. He/she is talking racism and pregudice. I don't talk to him directly. I report 'Abuse' whenever he/she uses vulgar language against Prophets Muhammad and jesus (PBUT)

Why, as a Christian, he felt compelled to spy for the Israelis? Last I check, Israelis were Jews and they despise Christians as much as they do Moslems. He only converted so he can gain the sympathy of Americans. Those deporting him are deporting him for a reason. Don't be naive and get caught up in the headlines.

He is a traitor, regardless of religion or national origin. He cannot claim that his spying for Israel stems from his faked Christian belief. All Palestinians Christians are opposed to the occupation and they fight it in every possible way along with Moslems. Many many Palestinians, both Christian and Muslim, wish that Israel had not left Gaza as they are now under complete and utter oppression by Hamas and the ruling Palestinian parties. Where do you think their systems for electricity, water purification and road systems came from? Have you spoken with a Palestinian as he lamented that Israel is not in any authority over the Gaze Strip? Have you heard the heart of a woman who is unable to leave her home because of the tyrannical Islamic fundamentalist rule where she lives? Have you seen the tears of a Christian Palestinian child whose father was murdered because he decided to believe in Jesus instead of Allah? Until you have, please do not disperse your incorrect assumptions to the general public.

Do you understand? The USA, the UK and the Nazis were negatiating to invade the USSR which was their commun ennemy. the USA and UK knew about the jews being killed and tortured by the Nazis but ignored it,they even refused to give visas to the jewish children to join their families.
Jews were protected in Morocco, Yemen, Turkey... Think about it, jews were massacres in the middle of europe by europeans. The US turn the blind eye and pretended not to know, the USA didnt want to upset Germany who was useful to fing communism.
Just after the war, the Nazi scientists and their families were invited to go and work for the USA in the USA. Jews never had that chance, they even were encourage to leave europe.
Jews never go justice for what happened to them in Europe. They were promise that they will be always supported if they took palestine for their home land. Now palestinians are the victims of the Nazi victims. As europeans will never give a piece of their land in europe to the jews, jews hope to keep Palestine, Palestinians will never give up their land , now jews have to seriously find a way to go back to europe and demande their right of return as they were foolish to leave in the first place.

The government blight of ineptitude, corruption (oil industry monitoring and regulatation) and now what seems dogged ignorance and spite by DHS reveals our government's creativity for coming up with ways to show how out of touch with reality it can be. Undoubtedly, DHS will tout this feat as proof of the agency's ready alertness, but as Americans have come to expect we will likely see not long afterward the subtext of a blunder which was unfolding even as the agency rallied in this proud moment of esceptional vigilance.

    • Cheri Ford

Omar, you don't know what you are talking about. If you read the Bible, specifically the New Testament, you will see how Jesus Christ was determined to die as the sinless sacrificial lamb for sinful humanity. You are right that everybody would have had to pay for their own sins on the day of judgment. And that's exactly why Jesus died to atone for us so that those who receive the grace he purchased with his life will not have to face judgment with the weight of our sins. It's called redemption. Christianity is the most appealing faith on earth because we don't have to try to impress God by being good enough for Him. Jesus Christ was good enough for Him, and Jesus Christ's shed blood more than covers all the obligations our sins have brought upon us. Islam can't save you. Jesus Christ can. And He never resigned, retired, or moved over for all the various cults in this world. His truth is eternal. He is the only one who can save us. Read the Gospel of John and see what it says. If you don't read the New Testament, then you don't have any right to an opinion about it. In any case, Jesus loves you and died willingly and gladly with you in mind. He rose from the dead, He lives forever, He knows you well. Try praying to him. You might be very pleasantly surprised.

As per a famous, contemporary NT exegete:

"Moreover, an atonement theology that says God sacrifices his own son in place of humans who needed to be punished for their sins might make some Christians love Jesus, but it is an obscene picture of God. It is almost heavenly child abuse, and may infect our imagination at more earthly levels as well. I do not want to express my faith through a theology that pictures God demanding blood sacrifices in order to be reconciled to us."

"Traditionally, Christians have said, 'See how Christ's passion was foretold by the prophets." Actually, it was the other way around. The Hebrew prophets did not predict the events of Jesus' last week; rather, many of those Christian stories were created to fit the ancient prophecies in order to show that Jesus, despite his execution, was still and always held in the hands of God."

"In terms of divine consistency, I do not think that anyone, anywhere, at any time, including Jesus, brings dead people back to life." – Crossan

dear cheri Ford, in this age of technology why would someone settle for a technology which is older and less superior than the latest one? I read Quran and it is the latest version of heavenly books. It is down compatable, which means it confirms the teachings (untempered by men) of Abraham, Moses and Jesus (PBUT) and it also has the teachings of Muhammad (PBUH). Quran is the word of Allah, it is inconsistent and its verses do not contradict each other. First commandment asks you to not associate partners with God. How can Jesus forgive you or save you? He is a great messanger and appostle. Its God's job to forgive us and save us. God has given us choice to do good or bad and we will get rewards for good deeds and punishment for bad deeds. But if we repent for our sins before God and promise to not repeat them, He will forgive us. It is very illogical to think that first god gives uschoice and then kill Jesus in expiation of our sins. Moreover, if a Christian converts to Islam, he will be rewarded twice as much, his bad deeds will be erased and good deeds will stay. A lot of Christians have converted to atheism but some are converting to Islam after doing research and learning.

Religion is the cause of the problems in the middle east and those who believe that religion will solve the problem are the very ones that are leading us all off a cliff. Although the Jesus story is great, asserting that he died for our sins will hardly provide the right incentive for terrorists to stop murdering innocent people and spreading fear and lies to the people. Umme Omar, I can agree with you that God is just and unchanging, however our human ways are not His ways.
I also agree we should be serving people, and doing good deeds, but that in itself does earn salvation.

In the Tawrat, the prophet Isaiah spoke of human efforts to be righteous.

6 All of us have become like one who is unclean,
      and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;
we all shrivel up like a leaf,
and like the wind our sins sweep us away.

We ALL sin, we ALL fall short of God’s glory and righteousness. God is so great, and beyond what we can understand or imagine. It is only through the sacrifice of Isa, that God even hears the prayers of me, my brothers and sisters. I for example, can go boldly before the throne of God in my intersessions and requests, only in the name of Jesus/Isa because I accepted His sacrifice.

      The Injil states:
Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."
      John 14:6

God is Almighty and can and did protect His Word in the Tawrat and Injil, and no matter what language they are translated to the basic message is understood.
Sometimes, faith defies logic….it just goes with the territory. ☺

I really don't give a flip about israel or palestine. We have no business meddling in their affairs. The US has real problems of its own.

TomG is a war profiteer, Bomb baby Bomb!

We benefit off of Israel at least as much as they do off of us. Much of the money sent to Israel is used to buy American made equipment, not to mention Israel is the only real window into the Middle East that we have. They provide us with intel and tactics that save American lives. They are leading the world in medical inventions and are mass producing the technology to help break our dependence on Arab oil. They are the only true democracy in that part of the world and they share American values and ideals which we all take for granted. We are also currently studying why Israel's economy is more sound than the United States and the EU. We should be nice to them because, if you were out there, YOU would be the one hunted by Arabs.

@ Selfish Gene, you do realize this internet you use was helped created by Israeli technology right? And @ soonjustice, you do realize that the Israelis allow the most human rights to Muslims than any other middle eastern country. They allow freedom of religion, freedom of speech, access to a fair trial, freedom to education, etc., etc.

@tmg & Steve Johnson, What a crock !!! and how many spies does Israel have in the US (some are prison)? Full of crap and propaganda. NO NO NO!!!! the internet was not helped created by Israeli technology. Are you kidding me?? You are full of you know what.
I agree selfish Gene… we should take care of us first. Israel is a rogue nation despite of their propaganda… the Zionists are in control of the media, thus you we have to hear their BS. If you one is against them then one is branded as anti Semitic.

    • ISRAEL forever

      Selfish , let's count :
Until after 1967 the USA had nothing with ISRAEL . It was America who wanted to help this small and only democracy in the ME
You've supported the SHAH of IRAN and what did you get ? Your flag is burned in ISLAM states , never seen an ISRAELI burning your flag , whatever you did , On the October war of '73 Kissinger blocked military support to ISRAEL .
The point is , ISRAEL is an ally , ISLAM countries can be Friend today and FOE tomorrow .
The military support US gives ISRAEL can Only be used in the STATES thus returning back to aid your economy .
When you talk to ISRAEL you are heard , talk to TURKEY , your NATO ally , let's see what you get in return .
One more , your investment in ISRAEL is returning back to the world , We work hard , We have strong HI-TECH companies ,
INTEL , HP , MSFT , TI , IBM have discovered us we are not leech we deliver !
TALIBAN AL-QUIDA are your enemies . Remind you that ISRAEL wiped a NUCLEAR REACTOR in IRAQ at 1981 ,
We didn't send any american to do this . As was said We deliver ! take care , we fight the same enemy in different places
