Vatican expresses shock over police raids following sex abuse claims

The Vatican is expressing "shock" over the manner in which raids were carried out Thursday in Belgium following accusations of child sex abuse involving church figures.

The Vatican in a statement Friday registered "strong shock for the manner in which some of the raids were carried out yesterday by the judicial Belgian authorities" and expressed indignation that two cardinals' tombs were violated.

"We also express our regret at some of the infringement of confidentiality, that those victims on whose name the raid were conducted have the right to."

The Vatican also reaffirmed its "strong condemnation of any sinful and criminal abuse of minors by members of the Church" and cited "the need to repair and confront such acts in conformity with the law and teachings of the Gospel."

Police raided the headquarters of the Belgian Catholic Church and searched for important documents in relation to their investigation, police spokesman Jean Marc Meilleur said on Thursday.  They also raided the home of  Godfried Danneels, the former archbishop of the Mechelen-Brussels archdiocese, according to several media reports.

If some members of Congress were found to be pedophiles, we'd prosecute them, without condemning the entire nation.
A different standard works against the Catholic church: find a pedophile and the entire church is evil !

What an interesting thing is mob psychology.

"a pedophile" ? at last count, there were hundreds, thousands...the ratio of kiddie fiddlers, compared to any other society, organization, or religion is overwhelming.

Your logic would be viable if congress had a repeat history of pedophile cases filed against it and has repeatedly covered up such cases.

Face the cold, hard facts. The establishment of the church is a treat to the safety of children exposed to it. Either regulate the organization as a whole [as we did with the tobacco industry], or have them face the long overdue legal ramifications of their actions.

You many have been aware that "JC" did not prevent his own crucifixion from happening. You might wish to study into the reason for this.

Are you kidding me? Are we really supposed to believe the Vatican is concerned with victims' rights to privacy here? THAT is a sin.

Jesus said, "The truth will set you free". Many honest hearted Catholics will see the fruit of this unscriptural doctrine of celibacy (See 1 Timothy 4:1-3) and turning away Bible direction that results in pedophilia (Jeremiah 5:26-3). Some will search for the spiritual light. The rest want the keep the Catholic church's secrets secret. But nothing is a secret. See Hebrews 4:13. So what is a person to do? Acts 17:24-27, John 14:28, Psalm 83:18 (Old King James version)

hey vatican, if you had a history of purging these monsters from your organization, instead of helping to hide them, you might get some sympathy.

Yep, but that's the true meaning of the Catholic church, child molesting, mind and money control, the greatest lie ever told

How dare those arrogant, brutal, fascist Belgian officials interfere with the Church's ongoing coverup? Damn them.

And ya gotta love the Pope–all this crime, all these violations of trust and law and bodies, and he can only find it in his heart to express sympathy for...wait for it...the priests and the bishops. I guess he thinks (as one cardinal suggested) that pedophilia is really the kids' fault.

I want to know why people tolerate this kind of behavior from religious organizations. I want to say that if you are a Catholic, and you aren't outraged by the action of the NUMEROUS priests who have violated thousands of childrens' innocence and potentially ruined their lives FOREVER, and if you are willing to defend the Catholic Church until it is COMPLETELY FREE OF PEDOPHILES, then I consider YOU a pedophile. Sure, maybe you're not abusing children yourself, but your unwillingness to see the situation for what it is is tantamount to giving every child-raping priest a Free Pass to Molest. That makes you complicit in the abuse of children. Sleep soundly, religious people. And feel good about all the good you're doing.
