Church plans Quran-burning event

In protest of what it calls a religion "of the devil," a nondenominational church in Gainesville, Florida, plans to host an "International Burn a Quran Day" on the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks.

The Dove World Outreach Center says it is hosting the event to remember 9/11 victims and take a stand against Islam. With promotions on its website and Facebook page, it invites Christians to burn the Muslim holy book at the church from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

"We believe that Islam is of the devil, that it's causing billions of people to go to hell, it is a deceptive religion, it is a violent religion and that is proven many, many times," Pastor Terry Jones told CNN's Rick Sanchez earlier this week.

one of the signs off the end are people that give speechs so grand anyone will belive them, but not a drop of true faith enters there hearts.
I'm seeing this right here right now. if a religion that is climbing so fast it will rival christianity soon why dont you read some real islam starting at giving me your address so i can give you a few books and if you have an xbox care to play a few games?

Speaking as a Catholic, this man is ignorant to a very high degree. If you were to learn about the Muslim Faith, they largely share the same belief as us Christians: a belief in one God, no matter what name we give him.

Now for this man to just rise up and condemn a very beautiful and culturally diverse religion by claiming it as "the religion of the devil" is just wrong. How can he burn Islam's most sacred text and say, "...we’re saying stop, stop to Islam, stop to Islamic law, stop to brutality. We have nothing against Muslims; they are welcome in our country." is even more confusing. If you condemn Islamic law, then you are not welcoming them into your country, which may I stress allows the practice of any religion, which this "preacher" is unaware of when he says that he says a right to burn the Quran because "we live in America".

It is really terrible for this religion, which I do not wish to consider a branch of Christianity, to blame all immoral acts on Islam. Christianity doesn't have much of a clean history itself, so why must he burn Islam's most sacred text on the grounds of such useless and false evidence?

If I had a Quran printing factory I would post up and sell them Qurans to burn; then donate all the money to The Nation of Islam. It's like those CD crushing events. I would actually appreciate it if I was the artist because you have to by the CD in order to crush it!

He has obviously never read the Quran. Islam is a peaceful relgion. I agree there are some radical muslims, but not are like that, just like in all other religions. Just by doing this he is creating problems for America...Even the peacefull muslims will get angry with this.

I am a Muslim and Islam is a religion of Peace. but unfortunately some people are giving a bad name to it, they are surely going to go to hell soon. And as far as this so-called event is concerned, ALLAH is there to protect The Quran. see for yourself on the Day of Judgement.

You are making a big advertising for Americans and other non muslims to read the Quran, and hundreds of thousands of them becoming Muslims. INSHA ALLAH

If we chose to, would black people be justified in burning the Bible for what white Christians did and continue to do to us? This guy is sooooooooooooo ignorant that he's a danger to himself. Murder has always been the response of white people in America to anything they don't understand or can't control. Even if they're not threatened by the unknown they will make it a threat by way of propaganda. This mentality is a large part of what's destroying this country. He's a self-righteous hypocrite.

And putting anything down to "white people" or "black people" or Christian or Muslim, etc., is propagating hate just as well. If you cannot judge people individually, then you have a problem with hate just as well as this "pastor" that's burning Qurans. And you are part of the problem and not the solution.

"Dort, wo man Bücher verbrennt, verbrennt man am Ende auch Menschen."

"Where they burn books, they will ultimately burn people too."

    Heinrich Heine (1797-1856)
Poet, essayist, journalist and literary critic

These words are engraved on the ground at the Opernplatz in Berlin, Germany, the site of the Nazis' massive inaugural book-burning in 1933.

"Never forget." Heine's prescience can come true anywhere where people give way to their inner demons, ignore their better angels and reject their common humanity.

My friends, there is a bigger agenda behind all this threats on humanity, which ever side of the coin u r on, there will always be forces at work to stir us up to keep us divided. Put ur trust in God and let no man shake us.

i don't support burning of any Holy Book. It's just funny how people dont know or understand what happen yesterday so you cant possible comprehend the situations of the world today. All great nations through out the annals of history come to an end. Lets examine how this country was built. America enslaved and slaughter millions of Africans, gave the Indians blankets with Smallpox just wipe them out. Pushed the Mexicans south of the border and have the nerve to call them Illegal Aliens as if their from another planet. Have we forgotten how it was only 13 colonies and California,Arizona, Texas, and Nevada was originally Mexican territory. Have we forgotten we are the only nation that use weapons of mass destruction in Hiroshima and Nagasaki and killed men women children and babies. I guess people should just Love thy Enemy" like the
Bible says. Does America love it's enemies?

    August 3, 2010 at 1:03 am |
    • TammyB

Yes, and let us examine all nations/countries....tribal wars still in Middle Eastern countries (between tribes...please, they are all the same people right?), African countries and Asian countries (North Korea, South Korea, Vietnamese, etc.), genocide, rapes, etc. Every country on this planet has been invaded. The Spaniards brought small pox also to the Indians of South America, and Indians of South America and Mexico slaughtered each other then as well. We are not intolerant, by the way, to immigrants from Mexico, so long as they come here legally or at least try to. We bought the land from Mexico, so we didn't just take it, but let's say we did, and for 100 years this has been our border. Mexico is not disputing this, they are just a corrupt government that continues to ignore their own people forcing them to have to look for better lives. Perhaps YOU should read WORLD history instead of spending so much time making America to blame for all the world ills. Humans are crappy by nature and the most we can hope for is to continue to educate and spread the hope that someday we will ALL be a little smarter and able to live together.
