Church plans Quran-burning event

In protest of what it calls a religion "of the devil," a nondenominational church in Gainesville, Florida, plans to host an "International Burn a Quran Day" on the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks.

The Dove World Outreach Center says it is hosting the event to remember 9/11 victims and take a stand against Islam. With promotions on its website and Facebook page, it invites Christians to burn the Muslim holy book at the church from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

"We believe that Islam is of the devil, that it's causing billions of people to go to hell, it is a deceptive religion, it is a violent religion and that is proven many, many times," Pastor Terry Jones told CNN's Rick Sanchez earlier this week.

what i would like to say is till date the media and the rest have not got any hard core evidence showing that its muslims being terrorists. i am a muslim and proud to be a muslim. no matter what religion you are from or what colour race religion culture you have no right to burn any holy books or attack places of worship. Islam is a religion of peace love and kindness and nowhere in islam does it say about murder theft rape or terrorism. and if these people are to be muslims and are doing such bad thnings they will be punished for it and allah is watching over us every second of the day. i just wish that everyone would come together and tackle evil no matter what religion they are from. being racist and doing such horrific and terrible acts will not help it will just make things worser. i am a muslim and i am not a racist person or a terrorist. media and tv show american and bristish army troops being killed how about showing how the innocent muslims being killed in afganistan, iraq iran pakistan and many other asian countries. muslims are being put down in every way and are being shown as horrible evil people. but for me my relgion is everything i wish to be a muslim in every life inshallah. there are bad people in every religion. please stop picking on muslims and islam and let us live peacefully. islam is a beautifull religion a religion with so much love to all people no matter who they are. many non muslims look at islam as a bad thing but may i tell you when you actually come to know about the religion you will then find out how true and lovely and beautiful and pure religion it is. islam and muslims are not bad people we are kind caring people just the world is showing us to be terrorists. and may i say as much a man has a right a women has equal rights and women should be treated with equal respect althought yet i know in many cultures women are still being put behind. whoever is a sinner may be punished my god and may be taken to hell for thier wrong actions. i have many friends from different religions and race got white balck and asian friends and yet they are sensible enough to respect one anothers beliefs and relgions. many people have converted to islam why would they do that if muslims werew bad and wrong no!!!. they know the one and only true relgion and have converted on the own will. i resect all other religions as well as mine. for me i will give my life up to fight for my religion till the day i die . thankyou for reading my comment i hope the people who have wrong thoughts about muslims should hopefully be aware now that we are not people. thankyou

I always thought that muslim people are evil and they follow an evil religion but after looking into history and world events, I realised that muslims are one of the biggest victims in the world along side the jews who went through the holocost. I have been through many ariticles from non-muslim sources that all look into past wars and conflicts and its was clear to me that muslims are not violent (apart from a few) but they are made violent. I never understood the mentality of a suicide bomber, how can a person take their own lives so easily and willingly but then you need to live there to understand. When the americans and israelis bombed the many places and killed the many innocent people (apprantley these news arnt really shown on american tv)...... the relative or a brother of those killed is then fuelled with anger cos their loved ones are all spllatered on the floor cos of the bomb blasts. I mean if I punch a guy on his face.. it is then obvious that he will retaliate but if i didnt then he'd walk passed me. Many muslims call this retaliation, we call it terrorism..... but when we kill one of them.... we call it collateral damage. its a shame.

I also don't think he is a true christian even. Because in Quran, Allah tells us that there are some christians who are very tender hearted, when they listen Quran, they even start weeping. The christian society as well as Govt authorities and media should strongly condemn this act. Moreover I appreciate CNN's act of supporting muslim's thoughts.

i thing it is very cruel, now a days the human in any religion don't try to find out what is a real god. everybody believes their own believe, but everybody believe the real death. after the death non of us return back, if anybody return back to the world he never do this like and never think like this. but one thing is true, after the died he should be understood what is the god and what is he ordered to the human, this really happening in the world. but the clever man will really find out his own creator before his death. thanks god, they don't knew what they are doing, please excuse them

Reading many of these comments, I can't help but think the point is being missed, somewhat. (This is not in response to a particular post, but rather the general inclination to use religion as a scapegoat for unacceptable and harmful human behavior.) Religion is like art. It is subjective. It's significance to each beholder is different, and based on personal experience. Most 'religious acts', be they benign or destructive, are the result of a subjective idealogy, rather than a codified set of rules specifically handed down from this figure or that. It's the battle between chaos and order that exists within every one of us, being played out on the field of battle.

The struggle of humanity is to overcome that in us which can cause harm. Anger and righteous outrage in and of themselves do not kill people. As freedom of religion protects the rights of people to sustain their own belief system, freedom of mind, the pursuit of idealistic principles, and the basic knowledge that pain hurts, regardless of the victim's location, age, or creed, dictates that perpetuating needless suffering is wrong. A mother who loses her son in one country will not feel more or less pain than another somewhere else. If you act in a way that creates chaos and suffering, regardless of why, you're doing it wrong. The very concept of a religious war is an oxymoron. Regardless of what the 'agents of religion' say or do, it is STILL up to US, as individuals to support the greater good, and decry that which detracts from it.

Look at the My Lai massacre in Vietnam...hundreds of civilians dead at the hands of a hateful few. Very few of the people involved defied orders to kill women and children, and the ones that did (to the extreme that they trained their weapons on their fellow soldiers to prevent further murder) were villified for some time, only to be praised decades later for humanitarian actions. If only more of the murderous offenders that were there thought for themselves instead of yielding to "authority" for the sake of authority, suffering would have been drastically reduced. Each individual on this planet can choose a path of order or a path of chaos. If I had to choose, I would rather see more people stand up to offer their lives to preserve the former rather than the latter, but nothing that drastic is truly necessary if people simply choose to govern themselves appropriately.

To domestic haters: If you truly think that America is a great country, with ideals and freedoms that are worthy of defending and upholding, you cannot post comments that bely blind hatred in good conscience. Do your country a solid, and stop representing us as hateful ignorant people, just because you are protected by the oh-too-convenient anonymity afforded to you by the internet.

Quran has mentioned numerous times to leave non-believers like you alone. You will not understand. The people you mentioned above were innocent people who were killed in the name of Islam. Islam has been highjacked by few extremists, who give Islam and Quran the bad name. You cannot look at the action of few and defame Quran and Islam which gives the message of peace. Read Quran and then decide for yourself, just don't take the verses out of context.

“I see many differences between Islam and other religions. In fact, I see Islam not so much as a religion as much as an ideology. As I see it, the aim of the Islamic ideology is to dominate and to submit the Western societies to their belief, and this is unlike the other religions. I say that Islam is not another branch on the tree of religions – it has to be put in the corner of totalitarian ideologies. That's why I compare it with communism and fascism – I see the comparisons between the Koran and Mein Kampf.”

Do not attempt to burn any book. Some know what the right religion is, while satan is deceving others. If we compare the core doctrines of all religions , there can be no problem identifying the true one, based one who the true God is. The true God will never want you to take the life of your neighbour for any reason. So any message that tells you to hate your neighbour or take their life for any reason cannot come from the true God. The reasons are many to confirm that christianity is the true religion. But if they fail to understand, let them alone. do not bring any harm to them by your action. The satan that is deceiving them has a stronger hold on them than you do. So do hot fight a lost battle

  19. If you are going to burn kuran than you should burn your copy of bible

I am replaying to Reality, who said, “Google Muslims bible burning”. First of all, did you know that Islam has four BOOKS and bible is one of them? Those people who burn bibles and other holy books are not real Islamic believers. I thought people who believed in bible, believes in peace and it’s all about loving one another and it doesn’t matter what religion they are. If you think whatever this pastor doing is right, than burn your bible too. Do yourself that favor and don’t call yourself a Christian because you are a shame to all, even to your own god.
