Weird, but if a god tells you to do something, it's usually best to listen. They don't talk to everyone.

@Dont Distort and Lukie I CONTROL this part...conversation is over. Get some help for your obsession and fanatical thoughts. My other comments are awaiting moderation. I will not spend another moment talking to you foolish blokes. Btw, Jokes on you...I do not ascribe to any religion, and grew up in foster homes. One thing I do know, despite all that, is how to be a HUMAN being..to human beings that is. Present company not included. You are dismissed...Starr struts out the door CHEERS!

I'm still trying to figure out where I went wrong. There was nothing discrminary posted by me to you. I merely shit down your misconstrued ideas, particularly your logic surrounding unseen air. Of course we can see the elements that compose air, just in other states of matter. Heated gas becomes visible plasmas such as on the sun. Cold gas becomes liquid, such as liquid nitrogen. I don't understand your discomfort with this conversation.

What? That's certainly rude. I just wanted to engage in civilized debate and said nothing mean to you. Why resort to this? Childish and typical, I'm sorry to say.

    @ DontDistort
READ...Just because I post something does not mean it is my belief..I am presenting it as a piece to be considered with in regards to what the arguments/theories presented here are, not necessarily MY BELIEF...and I asked GOD?? You need to understand what you read and the CONTEXT of how it is presented!
    Regarding this statement by you:
Don't get holier than thou. I've been around people like you all my life (which is one of the reasons I know that christianity is about being right, not about being happy). You believe you are right and that everyone who doesn't see your way is going to burn in hell. You believe that science can be suspended so that your fairy tale is true. You believe that it's OK to spout your opinions with NO PROOF.

First of all, who are you to tell me how to get? LOL!
You know NOT if I am Christian , but you have already labeled me as one...How very knowledgeable you are! I wouldn't know about your life or where you been, but how sad for you if all you seen were Christians who were concerned about being right...I can't help you with that one.
I haven't said anything that I need to supply proof...lol...unlike you. Stop making judgements about me that you have no PROOF of. and that includes suppositions, you dummy.
For all you know I could be a horsecrap worshipper....and if I was I would feel right at home in here..lots of dung floating around, What a jerk you are. Don't take it out on me because your miserable. And another thiing, Mr. Piety, I can understand why you wouldn't want to believ in the Christians and what they believe, cause that would mean you would go to hell. You like living in a puppet world where nothing has meaning and therefore no consequences!

You called him a dummy. How very kind and Christian of you. You will be judged!

By the way, a lot of this stupidity arose from your incorrect logic about not seeing air. One of my posts was blocked, so I shall try again. We do see air. We we cool certain elements, they change states. That is, I can show you oxygen in liquid form when we cool is. If we heat some elements, they turn into plasmas- very common on the sun, for example. Perhaps you've seen videos of what liquid nitrogen can do. When liquid nitrogen heats, it turns into the very air you breath and expell when your lungs absorb oxygen. Let's go to cape canaveral together, I will show you liquid air – they power rockets. Again, your logic collapses into a black hole, void of circumstance due to proven fact. In this case, I can even show you how it fails by placing some liquid air in your (gloved for protection) hand.

      August 14, 2010 at 1:40 pm |
    • Luke

By the way, we can see air. When we cool nitrogen, it is called liquid nitrogen. We use that auper cool other things. As it warms at room temp, you can see it change states if matter. We use liquid oxygen to power rockets as well. As it burns, immense thrust is produced. You've seen shuttle launches, therefor you've seen air in other states being utilized. Your logic fails basic tests.

It's VERY obvious that you are a christian. I can tell by the way you act, and the complete lack of reason you use in the vast majority of your arguments. The way that you lash out when you are presented with irrefutable facts.

The only puppet is you. The preacher man feeds you fallacies and tells you if you don't believe them, you will burn in an eternal lake of fire. So instead of using the brain that you have, you blindly let 'religion' pull your strings as you turn a blind eye to the reality that your 'salvation' hinges on things that are impossible.

Seriously, who is the joke on? LOL

First of all. Verify...YOU need to read the prior posts to see where I addressed that. There you go, gotta grab at the bible to beat me up with..how lame!
I never said here WHAT I DO or NOT believe in...but for some reason there you go again....assuming I MUST be CHRISTIAN without knowing for a FACT
Also, hows it feel? You too are al lthose things you said I was and then some, and Guess what? YOU HAVE NO BOOK to blame! Your just as bad as you accuse me of being. You are IGNORANT too.
Now put your iron toed shoes on, so I don't hurt you when I step on those toes of yours...Ya Big Baby!

I read that capitalized random words strengthen arguments during rational debate and therefor increase the debater's chances of winning. I also read that using many exclamation points make you win too. You don't use nearly enough. The early letters of Thomas Jefferson were riddled with capitalized words and exclamation points. Try this writing style out and let me know how it works out.

Btw LUKE You said to CatholicMom:
You'll notice that one of my theories is that religion warps logic and perception. You have displayed an example of my theory, further cementing my logic. Do you mind if I use you in a case study I am presenting?

Luke, you don't have "religion" and you have warped logic and perception, so you may be an even better "subject" for your "case study" then CatholicMom could ever be.
I would bet your class is a bunch of wooden puppets..who else with a brain would entertain your foolish antics, plus you have not the truth in you ......one of the definitions of truth is defined as...
conformity with fact or reality; verity: the truth of a statement...where's my proof of what I just said to you?
It is based on the FACT that you said to me in a prior post that I did not pay attention in 10th grade what science taught...That was not a FACT but a supposition on your part and it in fact, had NO truth in it. Bite on that for awhile, Mr.All Knowing Eyeball!

    August 14, 2010 at 11:35 am |
    • DontDistort

      another definition of truth is:

      a verified or indisputable fact

therefore it is the truth that a virgin can not give birth (we can verify and prove this). You can not die and rise from the dead after 3 days (we can verify and prove this). Logic would then tell us that the stories in the bible can not be the truth, the 2 biggest pieces of christianity can be verified and proven to be untrue.

You want me, a strident atheist, to be the subject of my own case study, where I attempt to show the linkage between religious beliefs and faulty perception on history, science, math and warped logic? Well, I already am. I rank in the upper left hand corner of the carteasan plain, where those with low religiosity and high IQs reside. So far, I have about 88% correlation between intelligence and religiosity, but I am early on in collecting data. The difficult part will be ranking logic tests, but I will be sure to keep you posted. This is a global study and so far, the nordic nations ate whopping the Americans in IQ scores, and have incredibly low religiosity. Interesting data indeed.

    You said:

Starr,The reason what I said doesn't make sense to you is because you never bothered to pay attention in chemistry or physics in high school in the 10th grade, where the basic E=MC^2 formula was first introduced. If you had listened to your teacher, you would follow every last drop of knowledge I just rained down upon you. That does not mean my logic fails. It means you simply don't understand 10th grade science.

Wow! Now since you were not with me then. (nor have you ever been) what do you base that comment on? Is it your FAITH...nah, can't be that..how about FACT? Nope, you have no PROOF of what your saying,lol..can't be that either. Hmm..whats that leave? Your "opinion"..and you know what is said about that..everybody has one. Gee, looks like you lost this one, Luke.
Have you resorted to Esp, Remote viewing, or some other metaphor, to know these things about me, whom you don't know at all? NOPE, can' t be that...you don't believe in that...hehehe.
Lets see, all knowing eyeball of nothing..you rained all that" knowledge" down upon me woof!..All I saw was a puddle? Haha
Just how do you know what I will and will not do? Can you PROVE what I will or WLL NOT do....and if not, does that not make you FULL of nothing but lame comments? Posh to you, I say.
You are not my mind, how do you pretend to see into it, to fathom the pit of my understanding..or not? What do you base your theory on..WHERE's the PROOF of your comment? Yea, you have none..its a fairytale and you are the author of your own imagination fella.
Your logic fails...logic based on a supposition is merely bunk!

I didn't need to be there. You showed me yourself by posting opinions contradictory to verifiable fact expressed in basic chemistry amd physics 101 courses, therefore your logic collapses. Everything else you wrote is a blathering soup of nonsense amounting to nothing.

    Hi Catholic Mom!
You seem to be a happy poster, content in what you believe. These folks seem to have a passion to beat down anything or anybody that don't agree with them. Here's a individual who likes to roll a cross around, not bothering anybody, and they all think somebodys trying to "convert" them or something. What folly is that!
They are so into themselves, that they can't see past thier nose on thier face. Thay are not, in my opinion even civil.
Some people are good at telling others that they are "wrong" and that they are "right"..as long as its NOT what they believe..Let someone tell them they are wrong, and they spasm, lol! (pot calling the kettle black)
That does not strike me as "content" in what they profess. Seems they are so busy trying to convince others that THIER way is the RIGHT way, but man, don't do that to them!
They also like to belittle people and thier beliefs..IF thats what Athiest people are all like, what a pity. Not to mention that the other things you mentioned, like Love, ect., seems to be totally not part of thier makeup , mayby they can't see or feel Love ..since they have no purpose in life but to live and die, and go nowhere...

It's interesting that you infer that everyone but you is saying that others are 'wrong' or 'right'? Several posts you've suggested that people who don't believe the same thing that you do are wrong ("Likewise, for DNA, it seems clear that intelligence must have come first, before the existence of DNA. Statistically, the odds are enormously in favor of that theory. DNA bears the marks of intelligent manufacture.
      God??...." Your words).

Don't get holier than thou. I've been around people like you all my life (which is one of the reasons I know that christianity is about being right, not about being happy). You believe that it's OK to spout your opinions with NO PROOF.

Why won't anyone tackle my questions about the virgin birth and rising from the dead after 3 days?

How can you suspend WHAT WE KNOW IS TRUE AND REAL to believe a fairy tale? How do you suspend the basic tenants of reality? The answer is simple, you've been programmed to dismiss these REALITIES that WE KNOW ARE TRUE by your religious leaders, by your parents, in the hopes that you'll believe in something that is mystical. I actually feel sorry for you, that you have made a decision to deny that which we know is true and real to follow a fairytale.

Luke...Now what makes you think I wanted a rebuttal? I m glad you have seen your brain..now you CAN be sure you have one. Use it for good.
You have NOT seen the wind, you have seen the effects of wind.
You said: Your nothing logic doesn't even make sense. It's irrelevant to rational debate. I think you are trying to start the something from nothing debate, but I can't really tell. Hmmm...Sucks to be you, I guess! I don't think you make sense either, so were even on that front.
@DavidJohnson Well, Gee Wilikers..why does it NOT surprise me that you would respond to Ronald McDonald and his salty ff's?
You siad: You said, "why wear it..are you to lazy to carry it? According to you..why bother"

I do question the reasoning behind carrying a wooden cross 2000 miles. It doesn't prove that Jesus was the Redeemer. Should I say, "Wow! That fellow carried that hunk of wood 2000 miles. There must be a god!" ?
Why would you question it..why does everything that smacks you in the head as a act associated with anyhitng of a religous nature knock the stink right off your socks? For somebody thats got it all figured out, you sure are a touchy one! If the guy was carrying a wheel, would you even remark?? Why do you think everybody is out to convince you of something.
Go on and keep being the good little lap puppy..and relax, no ones taking you seriously! Cheers!
They shall travel in circles and they shall be known as wheels...
Seriously, you people need to chill! Talk about mob mentality.
Seems like all you all do is try and attack people about religion..is that all you know? Whats hurtin any of you about a guy who decides he wants to carry a croos around, lol? Is he hurting you by doing that? At lwast the guy is doing something harmless...mayby you all should stop being so obessed . Can't you ever find anyhting positive or different to talk about ? Why with all the profound wisdom and intelligence in here, one would assume one could find something....I would attribute it to your self righteous ego's, but ya probably don't believe you have it exists. Starr winks as she leaves....

Luke and his buddies are wishing for more than theories to back up their Big Bang; they search all the NT ‘scholars’ of today for the answers; they prefer these books to the Books of the Bible. The problem for them is that Science is a gift from God and so every time we learn something new via this gift they try to use it to destroy Truth! Science is just another way that God reveals more of Himself to us with every new discovery! I love Science and the marvels of God that it has revealed so far; life is never boring for a Christian.
I wonder how their Big Bang explains boredom, Truth, hate, fear, depression, conscience, endurance, assurance, Love…..

You've just embodied the reason why religion was invented in the first place. You feel the need to have things explained to you that you do not have answers for. This was true many years ago when religion was first invented by humans. They needed to have answers to everything. Over time we have come to realize that many things that religion taught and supported were wrong (the earth is the center of the universe Galileo), science was so much of a gift that they banned texts from being published. Science has always been at odds with religion because religion is, well, made up. Science continues to reveal more truths that invalidate these mystical beliefs i.e. religion.

It doesn't surprise me that NONE of the religious supports here has even begun to address the FACT that there is ABSOLUTE proof that the 2 most critical parts of the christian faith are scientifically, and medically impossible. But they both are EXTREMELY similar to to the egyptian mythological Isis, Horus and Orisis as well as stories from Mithraism both of which preceded chrstianity.

And don't even get me started on the CLEAR proof that the early christians co-opted so much of the Pagan faith for their own use...

Oh CatholicMom you always amuse me. The Big Bang Theory and it's rivals do not speak about boredom, truth, fear, depression, conscience, endurance, assurance and love. For those things, you would have to speak to a psychiatrist or philosopher. Sam Harris has a new book coming out next month that speaks to how science explains morality. Please do check it out. What warped logic to think theories of the cosmos speak to social disorders. You'll notice that one of my theories is that religion warps logic and perception. You have displayed an example of my theory, further cementing my logic. Do you mind if I use you in a case study I am presenting?

all religous acts are a comlete waste of time. They dont produce anything. No jobs created no product produced. Churches and mosques are empty buildings with empty minds. Thats why secular china builds factories and creates jobs and products to sell to the rest of the religious world. ...God is blessing with American jobs and a substantial amount of wealth to support their billion man army...

The same people who say things like "religious acts are a waste of time" and "don't force your religious views on me" are the same people who will sit in from of a TV for hours, happy to let commmercials be pounded into their great minds.

Which is better than sitting in a pew having hogwash pounded into your mind. You know a lot of stuff on TV is crap. The guy in the pulpit is pounding mystical 'bs' into a bunch of gullible people who think he is going to point them to everlasting life.

At least when I watch Bones, or NCIS I know it's all not real. At least it isn't nearly as dangerous as being brainwashed in church.

Brad – At least when I watch(ed) Lost, I knew it was science fiction. Sadly, those in the pews neurologically believe what they hear is fact rather than myth, causing a warped perception of history and reality. This is the danger of religion across the globe.

That’s right, tell people who are making an attempt to better their lives and the lives of others how much a waste of time it is. Meanwhile, you go ahead and support abortion clinics, frequent strip clubs, booze it up with your so called friends, hit the crack pipe, beat your wife, and tear down all that is good around you. The church I attend is busting at the seams due to a great presence in our community. We provide tens of thousands of dollars to the local schools so that underprivileged kids can have school supplies, lunches, and the general cost of all the extras. We serve the local rescue mission to help those people who thought just like you not to many years ago. I know this because I talk to them. My church went into a low income high crime housing area and held a carnival for the kids. The number of 911 calls for that same community declined by 80% the next month and continues to fall as we continue to go back. Every month we do what we call a giving back to God project and each time we do it, we walk away fulfilled with something you will never experience while sitting on your bar stool. We are saving marriages, reducing teen pregnancies, giving the kids things to do besides hanging out on the street corner. You are correct, we haven’t added to the GDP nor do we plan to. In fact when we can we give even more away we do. Our church partnered with the Global Orphan project and built an orphanage, church, and housing to house over a hundred parentless kids.

That’s the mystery behind God. The more we do these projects, the more blessed we become. Our church started 3 years ago with 45 people. We now have over 900 attending. We don’t go to a fancy building on Sunday or a Mosque as you call it. We meet in a high school auditorium. All this guy is doing is reminding people like me that I need to stop worrying about the small things that bring me down like your reply. Rather to trust Jesus and he will wash away my sins and when I follow his example, my burdens are lifted; I become something that is desirable and pleasing to God and man. I land the job that pays better. I refrain from things that keep me financially hindered like drugs and booze. I am able to get off the couch and spend time with my kids. If God blesses me with wealth then I start a business which I know from the peace that God has given me that it will succeed. I hire employees and the world I live in is a better place. But God granted you free will so that you can live as you want. You don’t have to worry about Him striking you down for saying what you said. When you need the church, we will be there for you and never throw your past in your face. God loves you and so do I. It took me a “slap in the face” message just like this to wake me up. I only hope this did the same for you? Will you trust Him? If you say yes, and live in the Kansas City area, look up Restore Christian Church in the Northland. Ask around for me and I will help you on a different path. What do you have to loose?
