White House strikes back at 'Muslim' tag

The White House is responding to new polls Thursday that show an increasing number of Americans believe that President Obama is a Muslim.

"President Obama is a committed Christian, and his faith is an important part of his daily life," Deputy White House Communications Director Jen Psaki told CNN. "He prays every day, he seeks a small circle of Christian pastors to give him spiritual advice and counseling, he even receives a daily devotional that he uses each morning. The President's Christian faith is a part of who he is, but not a part of what the public or the media is focused on everyday."

Googling the "propheteering"/ profiteering K. Clement:

"Kim Clement, False Prophets, and the Value of Truth
      April 1, 2007 ·

"The other day in a conversation with a vendor at work, the ministry of Kim Clement was recommended to me. After realizing it was a guy she was talking about, I remembered having seen him before on TBN. The five minutes of his show I watched were enough to determine that he was just another face in the personality cult that is popular Christianity.

Anyway, it was mentioned to me that he had prophesied that God was on the verge of something big and that the warm weather we’ve been having this month is a sign of it.

Ever curious, I hopped over to his Wikipedia entry (linked above). On it are listed a small handful of failed prophesy. That is very interesting to me.

You see, my Bible has a neat little passage in it tucked away at the end of the 18th chapter of Deuteronomy. It goes like this:

But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know when the Lord hath not spoken? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.
      Verses 20 – 22

These prophets which speak presumptuously and fail to predict the future are contrasted with Jesus Christ, the Prophet like unto Moses (Deuteronomy 18:15 – 18).

But even the coming of Jesus didn’t end the coming of false prophets, for the Lord warns in no uncertain terms, “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves” (Matthew 7:15)! Don’t miss that verse, friends: false prophets are not going to stand out like a sore thumb! They are going to look like and act like sheep — like Christians!

John, that beloved apostle of the Lord, warns his fellow believers as well, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1).

Let’s put those pieces together, from Moses, Jesus, and John:

False prophets are unable to predict the future with 100% accuracy.
False prophets will look like Christians.
Christians are responsible for testing the words of every prophet, believing only those are proven to be of God.

Mr. Kim Clement has failed to predict the future with 100% accuracy. Regardless of anything else he says or does — regardless of whether he has had some success with prophesies or not — it is the Christian’s duty to reject him as a false prophet.

Like I said earlier, though, popular Christianity is a cult of personality. It is difficult to warn against such individuals because there are many people who take it as a personal insult to their own faith."- Beckman

President Obama is a Christain Messianic Jew. His name is in the Bible, and in the Messianic Jewish Bible, John King do your HOMEWORK. It was time for Obama to be President. Starting with the Children Of Israel. Every 400 years.Count from Moses time up to when Obama was elected. President Obama's Cabinet is Jews. A lot of people have missed it. The President and his family and the his Cabinet had the Passover Dinner together, this year and last year. God anointed him for such a time as this. To bring peace amoung the Nations. Ask Pastor Paula White, at Church WithOut Walls. We have Rabbi Messer ther teaching a class. The Jews voted for President Obama, they know who he is and what he is assigned to do for such a time as this in the U.S. A mix man, to bring peace in all Nations. That's why the Jews looked at Former President Bush crazy, because he did not know what President Obama's name stand for. Another Moses. Amen.

I quote, "For babies are being killed, after all, not only by abortion, – which I’m sure eight years of Obama would significantly reduce – but also by indiscriminate violence in Iraq (and other places), by high infant mortality rates, by high rates of violence in our cities (and rural places), by economic distress at home and abroad, by lack of health care. There are lots of ways babies get killed, and the only one the religious right is concerned about is the one they can keep manipulating to pull in the votes of the religious right. And against that one particular way of babies getting killed they do nothing effective."

A mother's womb should be the safest place for a baby.

It used to be the disasters that afflicted the life of a baby, ….poverty, abuse, etc, were the things we had to battle, then man added murder to the list.

CatholicMom – Actually, the womb is one of the most dangerous places in the known universe from a mathematical standpoint. Miscarriage rates are absolutely through the roof in most parts of the world. In some parts of the world, more than 50% of fetuses are lost naturally, even up to a few months. Even in first world nations with great healthcare, a huge amount of women lose their baby without even knowing that they are pregnant.

So Luke you are saying because there are a large number of miscarriages in the third world, that this gives credence to the eradication of millions of growing womb babies every year by the horrors of abortion???

Nature or Nature's God is the #1 taker of everyone's life. That gives some rational for killing growing babies or those suffering from dementia, mental disease or Alzheimer's or anyone who might inconvenience your life???

We constantly battle the forces of nature. We do not succumb to these forces by eliminating defenseless children!!!!!

There are some unwritten rules regarding this blog. One is the list of secret forbidden/filter words to include parts of words that are on the list. One such word is t-it. The word filter will automatically put any comments with this word in the "being moderated" category which typically will be eventually deleted. So be careful about using the words t-it, Consti-tutional, t-itle, se-x, se-xual, hom-ose-xual, any word with h-omo in it, Jesus Se-minar etc. Check any of your comments that get the "being moderated" "kiss" and simply rewrite with dashes in what might be a forbidden word or part of a forbidden word. The dashes/hyphens typically will get your comments approved by the filter.

I don't know what is more disturbing: (a) that 20% of Americans can be thinking Obama is Muslim. (b) That Obama does a "daily devotinal". Christianity, like any religion, is a supernatural belief. Praying every day is as illogical as getting your astrological charts done. Scary that so many people find being religious is a favorable trait.

He kicks Franklin Graham out of the Pentagon on the National Day of Prayer. Students aren't allowed to quietly pray on the steps of the Supreme Court. Yet Obama with no birth certificate comes running to the defense of the Ground Zero Mosque. He's allowed to lie to the infidels. If it walks like a duck....

    August 19, 2010 at 9:01 pm |
    • Luke

Keith – National Prayer day was started by GW Bush, and is not official doctrine of the USA. He merely didn't hold up someone else's tradition. I wouldn't either. Maybe he doesn't like to make a spectacle of his religion like Bush did. Remember, Bush invaded countries and used religion as a tool to do it. That's called a crusade. I don't think anyone is allowed to pray on the Steps of the Supreme Court. Causality buddy? Have to look into it. Have you ever even been to NYC? Do you know where Ground Zero is? Do you know where Park Place is? It is not a mosque too. I do love the media grabbing hold of something and indoctrinating the people; it smells of abuse of free speech causing panic. Like yelling fire in a crowded building. If you don't like his policies, that's cool. We can debate them rationally, but don't go running around making crap up. It makes you look laughable.

@ Luke: You are incorrect. It was not started by Bush. The National Day of Prayer (36 U.S.C. § 119) is an annual day of observance held on the first Thursday of May, designated by the United States Congress, when people are asked "to turn to God in prayer and meditation". The law formalizing its annual observance was enacted in 1952, and is being challenged in court.

      August 20, 2010 at 11:03 am |
    • Luke

What did Bush do then? I know he did something. In any event, the president cant just cancel a law. If it was enacted by Congress in 1952, then it must go through the lower houses. I'll have to read up on this. If what you say is true, then my bad. But I know Bush started something and Obama did not keep tradition on. Do you know off hand?

      August 20, 2010 at 11:13 am |
    • ttwp

@Luke: George W. Bush held events on the National Day of Prayer in each year of his presidency. Compared to others: Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush each hosted special events for the day only once during their administrations, President Bill Clinton did not hold any such events during his time in office and President Barack Obama did not hold a formal events but issued a presidential proclamations for the NDOP in 2009 and again in 2010.

On October 3, 2008, the Freedom From Religion Foundation sued President George W. Bush, Jim Doyle, Shirley Dobson, chair, National Day of Prayer Task Force, and White House Press Secretary Dana Perino at a Madison, Wisconsin federal court, challenging the federal law designating the National Day of Prayer.[15] The Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) is defending Shirley Dobson and the National Day of Prayer Task Force. The Obama administration asked U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb to dismiss the case in March 2009. The administration argued the group has no legal standing to sue and that the tradition of the National Day of Prayer dated back to 1775.[16] The suit was then amended to include President Obama and Press Secretary Gibbs.

The Religion factor has escalated since Obama threw his support to the cleric Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf and the mosque at ground zero! The scenario is: Obama empathizes with Muslims. Obama stated this with in the first few months of his Presidency! Obama was in Egypt addressing the Muslims on LIVE TV–Al-Jeezra–he reached out to them by saying He knew how they felt because he was one of them!

Obama reached out to the Muslims during his inaugural speech when he said: "Today Muslims we will have a different direction towards you! Obama favors Muslims! His father was a Muslim!

When you pay the cleric Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf to travel abroad promoting Muslims and their belief–and you don't do the same with Christianity( who has been misunderstood all over the world)–then President Obama reveals his desire for the Muslim faith to be clearly known throughout the Middle East. Couldn't understand the Middle East–(Obama didn't mean a meeting with Israel–but to sent Imam to the Arab world. Especially with a message violence of the Muslim beliefs must stop! The true traditional Islam is peaceful! Quit talking hate–rather be a peacemaker!

Clearly Obama stepped out away from the separation of Church and State! Obama is Obama! Yes, there are confusing signals coming from the White House–what Americans are afraid of is trying to make or to fulfil Prophet Mahuumad's desire to see everyone convert to Islam! It is the only way!

Get a Qur'an and read it–it comes in English! That way you can understand the real issues and make your own decisions!

That being said, I have been convinced of his Christian faith from the beginning. I would be interested to know who his pastoral advice team is (I am assuming they are Christians) – that would also give light to his religious viewpoint.

I am staunchly against abortion, but for it being legal. Making it illegal only makes it go underground, where it is inherently more dangerous for all involved. Prohibition should have taught us that lesson. Abortion hasn't ever been non-existent. Ancient Romans induced abortion, for pete's sake! Blaming it on Obama is just silly.

What I would like to see is fewer unwanted children. More women choosing to offer their children for adoption rather than aborting them. More support for those who unexpectedly wind up pregnant and keep their kids. More education for kids before they become sexually active so they don't wind up in those difficult situations. This is exactly the kind of common ground the POTUS spoke of not too long ago.

It is just a matter of record, Post-Election / Pre-Inauguration, that shows his stance. They wouldn't let me post the huge list as it would have taken up all the space allowed for this comment! You will just have to google it for yourself, ‘ President Barack Obama's Pro-Abortion Record’.

What's pro abortion? That sounds like you are twisting pro choice into something it is not. Being on the pro means to be for something. I am pro ice cream. I think it's seriously awesome! But you might not like it. I am not pro abortion. I, as well as mr. Obama, am not for abortion. I do not think it's awesome like ice cream. However, I am for choice. I believe in freedom. Since abortion is not strictly a religious debate, religious ethics are not taken into account. And furthermore, we live in a secular democracy made of secular laws, religious beliefs are not used in the abortion debate. In Rowe v Wade, long before Mr. Obama, was involved in any national debates, it was decided by the supreme court that freedom trumps religious values.

You are wondering, what is ‘pro-abortion’? A man-made assumption that it is okay for a woman to kill her baby while it is in her womb.

If you get your girl friend pregnant, get mad at her for any reason, punch her in the stomach and they find her baby is no longer alive, no heart beat…it is called a homicide. You go to prison.

Oh, if they find that the baby is alive after your punch, she can decide to sock it to her baby in the womb by using an abortionist and it is not a homicide, all the while you are in prison for the assault.

There will be no ice cream for you in your cell. [If this happens in Maricopa County, Arizona]

You falsely answered my question. I blatantly said I am not for it. I am for personal choice. You made that phrase up to persecute people like me to make yourself feel better or you read it somewhere it made you feel all warm inside because now you have a new phrase to spit on the pro-choice crowd. in other words go get knocked up 17 times for all I care. Just don't take my wife's freedom away.

Question – since you seem to be so concerned about the unborn, will you make a donation to a charity I help out with? We send money to foreign lands that don't have proper healthcare and have incredibly high infant mortality rates. The bulk of the money goes to Africa and the Middle East. Interested?

This was decided by the Supreme Court 30 + years ago. This is not up for debate.
The President could be pro ice cream, it does not effect sales of Ben&Jerry's.
There are people in America who do not agree with your single issue stance. Sorry.

    1 Corinthians 12
1Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

2Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.

3Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

4Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

5And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.

6And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

7But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

    8For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

    9To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

10To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

11But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

12For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

13For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

14For the body is not one member, but many.

15If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?

16And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?

17If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?

18But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.

19And if they were all one member, where were the body?

20But now are they many members, yet but one body.

21And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.

22Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:

23And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.

24For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked.

25That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.

26And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.

27Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

28And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

29Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?

30Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?

31But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

Bill, I actually I have an issue with the numbers from yesterday's poll, and I am not yet sure what to make of it. I can see the 63-27 margin for those against the mosque thing in lower Manhattan, but I really don't understand the 64-28 of those that think Mr. Rauf has the right to build this community center. Clearly, the second set of data should be 100-0. Seeing that the set of people were asked both questions, I question the accuracy, from a statistical standpoint, of the first set of numbers. That is, those that don't understand that he has the right to build the community center are not mentally fit to answer the second question unbiasedly. From a mathematical standpoint, these numbers mean nothing.

You got that right. Mass hysteria deliberately fostered upon the public is an abuse of free speech rights. Someone should be held accountable. Oops, there's that money thing again...

It's doubly sad because not only is it released to appease morons who can't deal with the fact that one of their own could be a Christian, but also because it has to be released. Why does someone's faith matter at all? Would you not trust a muslim doctor who is renouned around the world simply because of his faith? Do you quake in fear if the pilot on your airplane is an atheist?
