Religious leaders speak out against International Burn a Quran Day Terry Jones, pastor of the Dove World Outreach Center, stands in front of his church in Gainesville, Florida Response so far to an event billed as a Gathering for Peace, Understanding and Hope has been "overwhelmingly positive," a minister in Gainesville, Florida, told CNN on Monday. The event is planned in response to a local church's International Burn a Quran Day. As part of the Gainesville Interfaith Forum - made up of Christians, Muslims, Jews and Hindus - Trinity United Methodist Church will host the event September 10, the night before the planned burning of the Quran. "Our hope is that we'll have a thousand people here and there will be 20 people [at the Quran-burning]," Trinity's senior minister Dan Johnson said Monday. Johnson predicted the event would be "multicultural and multifaith." He said he hoped it would inspire a number of people to sign up for the city's interfaith forum. "One member told me after church Sunday that they've never been as proud to be a member of this church as they are now," Johnson said. In a note posted on his church's website last week, Johnson invited all residents of Gainesville to the counterevent. "We feel compelled to raise our voices to proclaim that the action the Dove World Outreach Center is proposing is absolutely wrong and counter to the life and teaching of the Jesus whom we Wednesday, the city of Gainesville denied a burn permit to the center, said Bob Woods, City of Gainesville spokesman. "It was a question of public safety," said Woods. "The Gainesville Fire Department has notified the center through a letter," he said. But that isn't stopping the church. The Gainesville Sun reported that, in an e-mail newsletter sent out Wednesday, the church announced: "City of Gainesville denies burn permit - BUT WE WILL STILL BURN KORANS." Gene Prince, the interim chief of Gainesville Fire Rescue, told the Sun on Wednesday that under the city's fire prevention ordinance, an open burning of books is not allowed. He said if the church goes ahead with its plan, it will be fined. And the church's intentions aren't the issue. "It wouldn't matter what the book is they're burning," Deputy Chief Tim Hayes told the Sun. "We believe that Islam is of the devil, that it's causing billions of people to go to hell, it is a deceptive religion, it is a violent religion and that is proven many, many times," Dove World Outreach Center Pastor Terry Jones Jones wrote a book titled "Islam is of the Devil," and the church sells coffee mugs and shirts featuring the phrase. On the church's website, a section lists "Ten Reasons to Burn a Koran." The Islamic advocacy group Council on American-Islamic Relations called on Muslims and others to host "Share the Quran" dinners to educate the public during the monthlong fast of Ramadan beginning in August. In a news release, the group announced a campaign to give out 100,000 copies of the Quran to local, state and national leaders. "American Muslims and other people of conscience should support positive educational efforts to prevent the spread of Islamophobia," said CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper in the release. The National Association of Evangelicals, the nation's largest umbrella evangelical group, issued a statement urging the church to cancel the event, warning it could cause worldwide tension between the two religions. "The NAE calls on its members to cultivate relationships of trust and respect with our neighbors of other faiths. God created human beings in his image, and therefore all should be treated with dignity and respect," it said in the statement.

Muslims are not terrorist!
Just because a few bunch of handful crazy people are doing something wrong, it does not apply to entire class. If an american commits crime, does it makes entire society or country be titled as criminals.

Islam means peace!
Islam was not spread by sword but by peaceful practice. Islam ruled hundreds of years. It never tortured any citizen during its reign since islam does not teach cruelty to anyone and this is what Quran says that Allah does not love cruels/oppressor and they will be feed of hell on judgement day.
Ask any converted muslim whether he/she was forced to islam.
Ask anyone who is working/living in muslim dominated countries whether he was ever forced to embrace islam. Just watch the way prayer is offered then your eyes will see nothing but a peaceful acts by huge number of people praying at one time.
I urge to them who instigate violence or hatred to think of those who are dying of hunger in africe and victims of war in Afghanistan or iraq and try to serve them a little rather than bring to public such issues. America is recession affected country and getting worse every day. Try doing something for those who are affected and do not have even food to eat. They lost their daily earing to make their living. Did you ever think of them?
Finally i end with the following incident which shows what Quran and prohet Muhammad (pbuh) teaches.
Once an old lady was trying to sneak out of city. She was ladden with luggage on her head and shoulder. A young passer by saw the lady in this condition and offered himself for help. He asked old lady where she was going? She said that you know that a man with name Muhammed is spreading islam and ask the people to believe in one God. People are converting to islam whoever meets and talks to him. I am afraid of losing my faith and that is the reason i am leaving this city.
The young man did not say anything.
They reached their destination and young man dropped all the luggage and turned back to return when old lady called her and asked his name. He was reluctant but as she insisted, he replied saying that he was that man whose name is Muhammed and he preaches about belief in one God Allah. The lady was shocked that the man who helped was the same person from whom she was running. With that kind of character, it melted her heart and she embraced islam.
So my dear friends, it is with practice and not by sword that islam was spread. Yes there were wars which took place but that was to protect oneself from oppression. All regligion and laws allows protection of oneself!
There is no worship but for Allah and prophet Muhammed is his messenger.
I appreal not to do this act of burning!

I am a Christian and I don't think God wants us to burn to Quran. That is a message of hate. God commands us to love and pray for our enemies. I feel this will only bring about more terror from the Islamic Radicals. You don't win over Islams or Muslims by burning their bible. You win them over through being a good witness of Christ. And for the unbelievers of the Holy Bible. Think about this; The Bible is a book of prophesy also and has never been wrong. It is the most published book of all time and has withstood the test of time and all debaters. It is what God intended for us to have. What is happening now in the world is talked about in the Bible. We are moving into the end times, towards a Holy War. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes unto the Father except through me." Jesus came to earth to fullfill God's purpose, to pay the penalty for all sin so that whosoever believeth on Him should not perish. Salvation is a gift from God and it is for everyone but you must believe and trust in what Christ did for you. God has a pwerful plan and purpose for everyone but He will not force himself on you. Read the BIble from cover to cover and ask God to reveal Himself and He will. Let me also clear up the misconception that sin doesn't send people to hell. Because we are all sinners. It is the rejection of the blood of Christ that covers those sins which is unforgivable. God spilled His Holy Blood for mankind so that we may be with Him in his Kingdom. Our flesh is temporary. We only live about 70 years if we are lucky. Our sous are eternal. Where will your soul be? I pray that you think about this in this very brief summary of possibly a feeble attempt to witness for Christ.

Rather than engage with Muslims in a civilized manner, Pastor Terry Jones is attempting to erect a wall of hatred with 2 million law abiding, patriotic American-Muslims. Just like Al-Qaeda hijacked Islam on 9/11, Mr. Jones is hijacking Christianity this 9/11. In fact, in this regard, Jones has outdone Al-Qaeda as Al-Qaeda has never orchestrated a "Burn a Bible" day. To commemorate 9/11 with this action is just wrong. Jesus taught (Matthew 5:39) his followers to show kindness and promote peace. Similarly, the Quran (22:41) teaches Muslims to defend synagogues, churches, and all place of worship. As a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, I believe and honor other religion’s Scripture. Our Community has launched a ‘Muslims for Peace’ campaign to foster the much needed brotherhood among all Americans. The world needs to see the end to wars, not creation of them.

Now if I use your own standard for judging evidence, then the rest of your posts must also contain error and should therefore be disregarded. That said, I still contend that the Bible does not contain errors. Whip Jesus? I think not. All you HAVE managed to do is store up for yourself WRATH for the day of wrath. Romans 2:5-10. The Quran uses the carrot and stick to reinforce behavior. Throughout the book are vivid descriptions of hell, where sinners and non-Muslims have to drink boiling, stinking water, are thrown face down into a raging fire, and have to be there for eternity, suffering endless torments in agony.
There are also vivid descriptions of Paradise. In Paradise, believers wear green silk robes and recline on plush couches. Trees shade them, fruit dangles nearby. Believers have tasty food and refreshing drinks served to them in silver goblets.
But to have a chance of reaching Paradise, they must be devout Muslims. To guarantee it, they must die in jihad (for men) or make sure their husbands are always happy with them (for women).

For anyone to enter Paradise, they must only affirm their belief in the proclamation of "There is non worthy of worship besides Allah, and Mohammed is his messenger." and perform the necessary pillars of Islam.

ok i have something to say about whats gonna happen sept. 11 i bet some of u guys heard that some people are gonna burn as many Qurans as they can on that day. Now i no im only 13 but listen come on were all the same we r all like brothers and sisters i bet u that god is disappointed of all of us for fighting and making war yes people died on 9/11 but u guys have to see the other side people are dieing in Palestine and Iraq and people died when there was war in Lebanon o u guys know how many people died kids died before that got married or even graduated their life ended ya i no what happened on 9/11 was wrong but thats the past now we cant put the blame on every1 now u need to look at the effect of what the people are gonna do on sept. 11 there is gonna be fighting and maybe a war might start .. GOD is gonna be dissapointed in everyone why cant we just stop everything and just live our life because we only have one life and we dont want to spend it fighing and getting killed PLEASE 🙁
Dear brothers and sisters of Islam, no matter what happens regarding this matter, even if they do burn the holy Qur'an, I kindly request, Please, Do Not Burn The Bible! Our Holy Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) has taught us to respect every religion, and, indeed other religious books as if they were our own, no matter what. We do not have to stoop to their level. Though almost all of us are furious regarding this matter, patience is the only solution. Allaahu Akbar. Peace be upon you all 🙂
