iReports capture Atlanta pastors blasting, defending pastor Eddie Long

Two new CNN iReports capture Atlanta pastors with opposite takes on the sexual coercion allegations facing Pastor Eddie Long, who's also based in the Atlanta area.

In one iReport, Dennis A. Meredith (pictured), Affirming Pastor at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Atlanta - which Meredith calls the largest church-based transgendered ministry in the southeastern U.S. - blasts Long for his alleged behavior and for his past criticism of homosexuality. The video was made by an independent filmmaker and submitted by a member of Meredith's congregation.

View the iReport video of Meredith here.

Mark Anthony Mitchell, Sr., is Senior Pastor of Atlanta Urban Foursquare Church and Executive Director of Jesus for Justice Poor People’s Campaign, a nonprofit community development corporation. Close to Long in the past, Mitchell has penned a defense of the pastor, calling it an "open letter from his spiritual son."

Here's the top:

As a once favored son of Bishop Eddie L Long, I have gotten many calls this week from associates near and afar asking me my current thoughts on my spiritual fathers’ current situation. Many have advised me to distance myself from him implying that my acknowledgement of him may be an affront to my character, accountability and integrity.

To all of them I gave this startling reply- in street vernacular “If he’s gets no bigger he’s still my --!” (Father) The germane question to me at the moment is not one of innocence or guilt but of loyalty. One does not have the liberty to choose either their physical or spiritual parents, that is solely determined by our heavenly Father. God’s word is still true “honor your mother and father that your days may be long.” Nowhere does it says only honor them if they are good.

We should have compassion for all people whether they are right or wrong. No matter what the outcome is for Bishop Long, keep touching people lives and loving them as you always have. We have a father in Heaven who is forgiving and merciful and that's who we serve. My prayers go out to you Bishop Long. Being an ex-offender, makes it hard for my journey in life but I place my faith in God and not man because my God can move mountains and open up many doors. I strive to stay grounded in His Word and image each day. God Bless and Keep everyone

What kind of so called minister are you if you don't even obey the word of GOD? Romans 1:21-32 gives a great description of the naive flock that are attending your services.

EDDIE DOESN'T NEED PRAYERS. HE OF ALL PEOPLE KNOWS THE DEAL. IFHE TRULY FELT LIKE GOD WAS WATCHING HIS EVERY MOVE AND THOUGHT HE WOULDN'T HAVE PUT HIMSELF IN THIS SITUATION. JUST LIKE MICHAEL JACKSON, IT DOESN'T LOOK GOOD. HE IS AT LEAST GUILTY OF BEING ARROGANT AND SELFISH. WHY DOES NEED MILLION $ HOMES, $350,000 CARS, GOLD,JEWELRY AND A $3,000,000 A YEAR SALARY.....HE DOESN'T, NOT WHEN THE AVG.CHURCH MEMBER IS UPSIDE DOWN ON THEIR HOMES AND THERE 401K IS A 201K. IF HE WAS IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR HE WOULD ALREADY BE FIRED. AND IF HAPPENED TO BE PREACHING IN AN ALL WHITE CHURCH.........YOU ALREADY KNOW....SO HE DOESN'T NEED PRAYER, THE CHURCH DOES. HE NEEDS TO BE REHABILITATED BY JOEL OSTEEN, DR. PHIL, OPRAH, OBAMA AND THEN NEVER ALLOWED TO PREACH AGAIN........DONALD TRUMP, FIRE HIM!.....

Are you serious we all need prayer! and were all innocent until proven guilty. It's ok for these CEO'S 2have wealth but under pay their employees, If Jesus said I come to give you life and the abundance of it....WTH! would i follow a bummed out broke Pastor who preaching the word but you can't see it in his life,He can't preach blessings if he is not.You say why does he need these material things? For that matter why does any of us need them? White church or Black church its still the same. The Man of God live in a shack and drive a pinto but corporate America u can live in nice homes and drive Cadillacs! Rite! wise one!

The whole situations is terrible and the aftermath could be constructive or destructive. Christians should pray for God to be glorified in the every situation .Prayerfully, it will lead all saints to truly study the and word and to judge rigtheously. Pastors are to be above reproach and have a good reputation with outsiders (1 Tim 3) . There should always be accoutability in the Church.

i agree with yvonne and as the people of God we should have been praying for him instead of critcizing him and judging hi
m we need to be careful what we say cause you do not know what the devil is planning for you so check your self and stop judging
