First images of proposed NYC Islamic centerThe group behind the proposed Islamic cultural center near New York's ground zero has released what it is calling the first official images of the center. The website for the project, known as the Park51 Community Center, said that the "new images display an updated exterior and provide a first look into Park51’s interior and lend some insight on how we’re envisioning the project," in a post that went up Tuesday but that initially drew little notice. Plans for the $100 million, 13-story center include a 500-seat auditorium, classrooms and conference rooms, space for social events, a 9/11 memorial, a pool and a gym.
Scores of Muslims are already using the Lower Manhattan site as a mosque. The imam behind the proposed Islamic center and mosque is largely avoiding New York City because of security concerns and is receiving protection from the New York Police Department, according to those close to the imam.
The images of the project were produced by SOMA Architects, which Park51's website identifies as the project's architectural design consultants. |

IT'S A VICTORY MOSQUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But just think of all the good that will come of it (the politicians have)...All the construction jobs, and the pilgrims coming to celebrate every September. Eurabia will have nothing on us!
Oh my gosh!!! What a terribly foolish blunder in design! It looks like a shattered building Talk about making it a target for more 911 hostility.
This obvious attempt to portray the trendy, cutting edge and stylish side of Islam but it reveals a complete lack of common sense.
Any other modern design would have been great. Time for the trendy, cutting edge, style-conscious designer to come up for air.
All Americans can build whatever religious Kivas, Temples, Churches, Parks or Mosques they want. GET OVER IT.
I hope you all learn about ISLAM. Only then can you understand just how ridiculous this religion is. Mohammed belived that the devil lives in the upper part of your nose at night when you sleep. He also married a 6 year old girl because he had a dream that the angel Gabriel told him that he had a "gift" for him. Mohammed was 54 years old at the time. Muslems also belive that Mohammed split the moon in half.
Mohammed was nothing more than an epilleptic child raping liar. Got to the mosques and listen about the "She-camel" that arose out of a mountain and prophesized to the villagers. Once the Villagers slaughtered the camel, their allah destroyed the village with an earthquake.
Really, once you learn about Islam, you will see that there are many people being deceived. So, let the ignorant be milked. Just don't be surprised when they build one of these religious Mosques next to you.
Is the 'swiss cheese' look an attempt to symbolize all the holes in islamic faith? Salvation can only come through faith in Jesus Christ. Let them build a mosque wherever they want. When the day of reckoning comes they can look up from the depths of hell and witness those of us who got it right worshipping Christ on the throne forever. At least Mohhamud will be there to keep them company...

I really don't understand why so many people are up in arms about this. If anything the insult lies in rebuilding on ground zero in the 1st place. Would a memorial park not be more appropriate? A place where all Americans can gather in remembrance. Oh wait the property is worth far too much to even consider that kind of suggestion. Fire up the back hoe's and put up a Mac Donald's we'll shift through the bodies later right now its building time. Perhaps people should choose to direct anger to better places.
I really suggest people actually look at the story before posting. If you did you would see how fake this entire thing is. The firm that is going to design a 100 million dollar building is 5 to 9 people if you check their web site. I am an architect and it would take 40 to 50 people working full time to design something like this. Plus this firm does not even have their own website. They only earn 1 to 2.5 million a year so at most they build up to 10 million dollars of construction a year. And if you look at the design, it is not at all anything that would actually be built. This is something a kid in school would propose until someone had to actually build it. Before people start to freak out, we should wait till they have something that could actually be built.
Looks grand, but you need something grand to commemorate the amount of Damage that the Islamics did on 9-11 and afterwards.

My first impression is it looks like a shattered tower or building. I spotted a star of David right off too, I wonder if that was intentional?
Western policy today is determined by the Arab street i.e what may be acceptable or not to the boiling Muslim masses. If there will be threats of flag and effigy burning, or burning people / property, then that is not 'good' policy and should not be implemented. And you will hear not a peep from the invisible (non existent??) 'moderate' Muslims as they are happy to enjoy the benefits of both worlds. Maybe there is a lesson in this to everyone else – threaten violence en masse and get your politicians to pay attention to you.
