Rescued miner says he saw God, devil during captivity

Here's what Mario Sepulveda, trapped inside Chile's San Jose mine for 69 days, said after he was rescued today:

I was with God, and I was with the devil. They fought, and God won.

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Their allies deceived them) like Shaitân (Satan), when he says to man: "Disbelieve in Allâh." But when (man) disbelieves in Allâh, Shaitân (Satan) says: "I am free of you, I fear Allâh, the Lord of the 'Alamîn (mankind, jinn and all that exists)!" (16)
    Sura 59:16

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
And (remember) when Shaitân (Satan) made their (evil) deeds seem fair to them and said, "No one of mankind can overcome you this Day (of the battle of Badr) and verily, I am your neighbour (for each and every help)." But when the two forces came in sight of each other, he ran away and said "Verily, I have nothing to do with you. Verily! I see what you see not. Verily! I fear Allâh for Allâh is Severe in punishment." (48) When the hypocrites and those in whose hearts was a disease (of disbelief) said: "These people (Muslims) are deceived by their religion." But whoever puts his trust in Allâh, then surely, Allâh is All-Mighty, All-Wise (49) And if you could see when the angels take away the souls of those who disbelieve (at death), they smite their faces and their backs, (saying): "Taste the punishment of the blazing Fire." (50) "This is because of that which your hands had forwarded. And verily, Allâh is not unjust to His slaves." (51)

Being on the lead as a capital of the world you are considered as Mother of Villages. So read what Quran says about it.
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
And this is a blessed Scripture which We have revealed, confirming that which (was revealed) before it, that thou mayst warn the Mother of Villages and those around her. Those who believe in the Hereafter believe herein, and they are careful of their worship. (92)
      Sura 06:92

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Mîm (1) Aîn¬Sîn¬Qâf. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Qur'ân, and none but Allâh (Alone) knows their meanings] (2) Likewise Allâh, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise sends Revelation to you (SAW) as (He sent Revelation to) those before you.[ (3) To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth, and He is the Most High, the Most Great. (4) Nearly the heavens might be rent asunder from above them (by His Majesty), and the angels glorify the praises of their Lord, and ask for forgiveness for those on the earth, verily, Allâh is the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful. (5) And as for those who take as Auliyâ' (guardians, supporters, helpers, lord, gods, protectors) others besides Him [i.e. they take false deities other than Allâh as protectors, and they worship them] Allâh is Hafîz (Protector, Watcher) over them (i.e. takes care of their deeds and will recompense them), and you (O Muhammad SAW) are not a Wakîl (guardian or a disposer of their affairs) over them (to protect their deeds). (6) And thus We have revealed unto you (O Muhammad SAW) a Qur'ân in Arabic that you may warn the Mother of the Towns (Makkah) and all around it. and warn (them) of the Day of Assembling, of which there is no doubt, when a party will be in Paradise (those who believed in Allâh and followed what Allâh's Messenger SAW brought them) and a party in the blazing Fire (Hell) (those who disbelieved in Allâh and followed not what Allâh's Messenger SAW brought them)[]. (7)And if Allâh had willed, He could have made them one nation, but He admits whom He wills to His Mercy. And the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers) will have neither a Walî (protector, or guardian) nor a helper. (8) Or have they taken (for worship) Auliyâ' (guardians, supporters, helpers, protectors, lords, gods) besides Him? But Allâh, He Alone is the Walî (Lord, God, Protector). And it is He Who gives life to the dead, and He is Able to do all things. (9) And in whatsoever you differ, the decision thereof is with Allâh (He is the ruling Judge). (And say O Muhammad SAW to these polytheists:) Such is Allâh, my Lord in Whom I put my trust, and to Him I turn (in all of my affairs and) in repentance. (10)The Creator of the heavens and the earth. He has made for you mates from yourselves, and for the cattle (also) mates. By this means He creates you (in the wombs). There is nothing like Him, and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer. (11) To Him belong the keys of the heavens and the earth, He enlarges provision for whom He wills, and straitens (it for whom He wills). Verily! He is the All-Knower of everything. (12)
      Sura 42:01 to 12

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
He (Allâh) has ordained for you the same religion (Islâmic Monothesim) which He ordained for Nûh (Noah), and that which We have revealed to you (O Muhammad SAW), and that which We ordained for Ibrahîm (Abraham), Mûsa (Moses) and 'Īsā (Jesus) saying you should establish religion (i.e. to do what it orders you to do practically), and make no divisions[] in it (religion) (i.e. various sects in religion). Intolerable for the Mushrikûn[] , is that (Islâmic Monothesim) to which you (O Muhammad SAW) call them. Allâh chooses for Himself whom He wills, and guides unto Himself who turns to Him in repentance and in obedience. (13) And they divided not till after knowledge had come to them, through (selfish) transgression between themselves. And had it not been for a Word that went forth before from your Lord for an appointed term, the matter would have been settled between them. And verily, those who were made to inherit the Scripture [i.e. the Taurâh (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] after them (i.e. Jews and Christians) are in grave doubt concerning it (i.e. Allâh's true religion — Islâm or the Qur'ân). (14) So unto this (religion of Islâm alone and this Qur’ân) then invite (people) (O Muhammad SAW), and stand firm [on Islâmic Monotheism by performing all that is ordained by Allâh (good deeds), and by abstaining from all that is forbidden by Allâh (sins and evil deeds)], as you are commanded, and follow not their desires but say: "I believe in whatsoever Allâh has sent down of the Book [all the holy Books, – this Qur’ân and the Books of the old from the Taurât (Torah), or the Injeel (Gospel) or the Pages of Ibrâhîm (Abraham)] and I am commanded to do justice among you. Allâh is our Lord and your Lord. For us our deeds and for you your deeds. There is no dispute between us and you. Allâh will assemble us (all), and to Him is the final return." (15)
      Sura 42:13 to 15

More passages for perusal – only for new Muslim members:

The Five Step Program for "Deflawing" Islam Using the First Five Tenets of Said Religion

o Using "The 77 Branches of Islamic "faith" a collection compiled by Imam Bayhaqi as a starting point. In it, he explains the essential virtues that reflect true "faith" (iman) through related Qur’anic verses and Prophetic sayings." i.e. a nice summary of the Koran and Islamic beliefs.

In case you did not know:

Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Husayn Ibn 'Ali Ibn Moussa al-Khosrojerdi al-Bayhaqi, البيهقي also known as Imam Al-Bayhaqi was born 994 CE/384AH in the small town of Khusraugird near Bayhaq in Khurasan.[2]During his lifetime, he became a famous Sunni hadith expert, following the Shafi'i school in fiqh.

Al-Baihaqi was a scholar of fiqh, of the Shafi'i school of thought as well as hadith. He studied fiqh from Abu al-Fath Nasir ibn al-Husayn ibn Muhammad al-Naysaburi, among others. He also studied hadith from Hakim al-Nishaburi and was his foremost pupil, among others in that subject as well. He died in 1066 CE.

Imam Bayhaqi was a prominent author in his time, having authored more than one thousand volumes according to Al-Dhahabi[3]. Among the most well-known books authored by him are:

    Al-Sunan al-Kubra, commonly known as Sunan al-Bayhaqi
    Ma`arifa al-Sunan wa al-Athar
Bayan Khata Man Akhta`a `Ala al-Shafi`i (The Exposition of the Error of Those who have Attributed Error to al-Shafi`i)
    Al-Mabsut, a book on Shafi`i Law
Al-Asma' wa al-Sifat (The Divine Names and Attributes)
    Al-I`tiqad `ala Madhhab al-Salaf Ahl al-Sunna wa al-Jama`a
Dala'il al-Nubuwwah (The Signs of Prophethood)
Shu`ab al-Iman (The branches of faith)
Al-Da`awat al-Kabir (The Major Book of Supplications)
Al-Zuhd al-Kabir (The Major Book of Asceticism)

    "1. Belief in Allah"

aka as God, Yahweh, Zeus, Jehovah, Mother Nature, etc. should be added to your cleansing neurons.

"2. To believe that everything other than Allah was non-existent. Thereafter, Allah Most High created these things and subsequently they came into existence."

Evolution and the Big Bang or the "Gib Gnab" (when the universe starts to recycle) are more plausible and the "akas" for Allah should be included if you continue to be a "creationist".

"3. To believe in the existence of angels."

A major item for neuron cleansing. Angels/de-vils are the mythical creations of ancient civilizations, e.g. Hitt-ites, to explain/define natural events, contacts with their gods, big birds, sudden winds, protectors during the dark nights, etc. No "pretty/ug-ly wingy thingies" ever visited or talked to Mohammed, Jesus, Mary or Joseph or Joe Smith. Today we would classify angels as f–airies and "tin–ker be-lls". Modern de-vils are classified as the de-mons of the de-mented.

"4. To believe that all the heavenly books that were sent to the different prophets are true. However, apart from the Quran, all other books are not valid anymore."

Another major item to delete. There are no books written in the spirit state of Heaven (if there is one) just as there are no angels to write/publish/distribute them. The Koran, OT, NT etc. are simply books written by humans for humans.

Prophets were invented by ancient scribes typically to keep the un-educated masses in line. Today we call them for-tune tellers.

Prophecies are also invali-dated by the natural/God/Allah gifts of Free Will and Future.

"5. To believe that all the prophets are true. However, we are commanded to follow the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)
Mohammed spent thirty days "fasting" (the Ramadan legend) in a hot cave attended to by his wives before his first contact with Allah aka God etc. via a "pretty wingy thingy". Common sense demands a neuron deletion of #5. #5 is also the major source of Islamic vi-olence i.e. turning Mohammed's "fast, hunger-driven" hallu-cinations into horrible reality for unbelievers.

Accept these five "cleansers" and we guarantee a complete recovery from your Islamic ways!!!!

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Such are those who buy the life of the world at the price of the Hereafter. Their punishment will not be lightened, neither will they have support. (86) And verily We gave unto Moses the Scripture and We caused a train of messengers to follow after him, and We gave unto Jesus, son of Mary, clear proofs (of Allah's sovereignty), and We supported him with the Holy spirit. Is it ever so, that, when there cometh unto you a messenger (from Allah) with that which ye yourselves desire not, ye grow arrogant, and some ye disbelieve and some ye slay? (87) And they say: Our hearts are hardened. Nay, but Allah hath cursed them for their unbelief. Little is that which they believe. (88) And when there cometh unto them a scripture from Allah, confirming that in their possession – though before that they were asking for a signal triumph over those who disbelieved – and when there cometh unto them that which they know (to be the truth) they disbelieve therein. The curse of Allah is on disbelievers. (89)
    Sura 02:86 to 89

Of those messengers, some of whom We have caused to excel others, and of whom there are some unto whom Allah spake, while some of them He exalted (above others) in degree; and We gave Jesus, son of Mary, clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty) and We supported him with the holy Spirit. And if Allah had so wiled it, those who followed after them would not have fought one with another after the clear proofs had come unto them. But they differed, some of them believing and some disbelieving. And if Allah had so willed it, they would not have fought one with another; but Allah doeth what He will. (253)
    Sura 02:253

Lo! the likeness of Jesus with Allah is as the likeness of Adam. He created him of dust, then He said unto him: Be! and he is. (59) (This is) the truth from thy Lord (O Muhammad), so be not thou of those who waver. (60)
    Sura 03:59 to 60

Then because of their breaking of their covenant, and their disbelieving in the revelations of Allah, and their slaying of the prophets wrongfully, and their saying: Our hearts are hardened – Nay, but Allah set a seal upon them for their disbelief, so that they believe not save a few – (155) And because of their disbelief and of their speaking against Mary a tremendous calumny; (156) And because of their saying: We slew the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, Allah's messenger – they slew him not nor crucified him, but it appeared so unto them; and lo! those who disagree concerning it are in doubt thereof; they have no knowledge thereof save pursuit of a conjecture; they slew him not for certain. (157) But Allah took him up unto Himself. Allah was ever Mighty, Wise. (158)
    Sura 04:155 to 158

O People of the Scripture! Do not exaggerate in your religion nor utter aught concerning Allah save the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, and His word which He conveyed unto Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers, and say not "Three" – Cease! (it is) better for you! – Allah is only One God. Far is it removed from His transcendent majesty that He should have a son. His is all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. And Allah is sufficient as Defender. (171)
    Sura 04:171

In the day when Allah gathereth together the messengers, and saith: What was your response (from mankind)? they say: We have no knowledge. Lo! Thou, only Thou art the Knower of Things Hidden, (109) When Allah saith: O Jesus, son of Mary! Remember My favour unto thee and unto thy mother; how I strengthened thee with the holy Spirit, so that thou spakest unto mankind in the cradle as in maturity; and how I taught thee the Scripture and Wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel; and how thou didst shape of clay as it were the likeness of a bird by My permission, and didst blow upon it and it was a bird by My permission, and thou didst heal him who was born blind and the leper by My permission; and how thou didst raise the dead by My permission; and how I restrained the Children of Israel from (harming) thee when thou camest unto them with clear proofs, and those of them who disbelieved exclaimed: This is naught else than evident magic; (110) And when I inspired the disciples, (saying): Believe in Me and in My messenger, they said: We believe. Bear witness that we have surrendered (unto Thee). (111) When the disciples said: O Jesus, son of Mary! Is thy Lord able to send down for us a table spread with food from heaven? He said: Observe your duty to Allah, if ye are true believers. (112) (They said:) We wish to eat thereof, that we may satisfy our hearts and know that thou hast spoken truth to us, and that thereof we may be witnesses. (113) Jesus, son of Mary, said: O Allah, Lord of us! Send down for us a table spread with food from heaven, that it may be a feast for us, for the first of us and for the last of us, and a sign from Thee. Give us sustenance, for Thou art the Best of Sustainers. (114)Allah said: Lo! I send it down for you. And whoso disbelieveth of you afterward, him surely will I punish with a punishment wherewith I have not punished any of (My) creatures. (115)And when Allah saith: O Jesus, son of Mary! Didst thou say unto mankind: Take me and my mother for two gods beside Allah? he saith: Be glorified! It was not mine to utter that to which I had no right. If I had ever said it, then Thou wouldst have known it. Thou knowest what is in my mind, and I know not what is in Thy Mind. Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Knower of Things Hidden? (116) I spake unto them only that which Thou commandedst me, (saying): Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. I was a witness of them while I dwelt among them, and when Thou tookest me Thou wast the Watcher over them. Thou art Witness over all things. (117) If Thou punish them, lo! they are Thy slaves, and if Thou forgive them (lo! they are Thy slaves). Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Mighty, the Wise. (118)
    Sura 05:109 to 118

It befitteth not (the Majesty of) Allah that He should take unto Himself a son. Glory be to Him! When He decreeth a thing, He saith unto it only: Be! and it is. (35) And lo! Allah is my Lord and your Lord. So serve Him. That is the right path. (36)
    Sura 19:35 to 36

And when Jesus son of Mary said: O Children of Israel! Lo! I am the messenger of Allah unto you, confirming that which was (revealed) before me in the Torah, and bringing good tidings of a messenger who cometh after me, whose name is the Praised One. Yet when he hath come unto them with clear proofs, they say: This is mere magic. (6) And who doeth greater wrong than he who inventeth a lie against Allah when he is summoned unto Al-Islam? And Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk. (7) Fain would they put out the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light however much the disbelievers are averse. (8)
    Sura 61:06 to 08

Say (O Muslims): We believe in Allah and that which is revealed unto us and that which was revealed unto Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the tribes, and that which Moses and Jesus received, and that which the prophets received from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and unto Him we have surrendered. (136) And if they believe in the like of that which ye believe, then are they rightly guided. But if they turn away, then are they in schism, and Allah will suffice thee (for defence) against them. He is the Hearer, the Knower. (137)
    Sura 02:136 to 137

You got it wrong,we only kill infidels "Non Believers" who do all that is against God Laws on earth. So if you are infidel and do all that God has forbidden in his Holy Scriptures! Well then you have wright to fear and specially those who are Gays and Lesbians much fear that so are you any. Otherwise there is no fear at all and we have nothing against other religions that admits to their faith to God's existence. So if you are Christian or Jew you shouldn't fear a thing because God is with you protecting you as it is with Muslims.

Ah, so a Christian and a Jew really shouldn't be too upset if a Muslim kills them because at least they'll end up in heaven, as long as they weren't sinners, of course! Gee, that should make everyone feel all warm and fuzzy about Islam.

Did I say that or you are reading it upside down? I said if a man of religion a christion or Jew should not fear because no one is allowed to kill believers and was talking about infidels. Although really I am not to judge but Thomas has annoyed me speaking about my belief so badly with out knowledge.

How about the novel idea that you believe what you want to and let the miner also believe as he wants. Religion is a very personal thing. If this guy found comfort in his religion during his ordeal then who are we to bash him or it? Live and let live. We do not know what he saw or heard during this difficult time. If his beliefs make him happy then why is it anybody else's business?

The article says "The rescued miner had high praise for the doctors and psychologists who aided the miners via videoconference.

"They gave us our lives back. It's incredible that with 700 meters between us, and not seeing us face-to-face, they revived us," he said."

Doctors and psychologists, but no mention of priests or pastors. I guess they wouldn't know what to say to encourage folks to have hope or to live for the future.

He did not say he saw God, or the Devil, It's so wrong to change what he said. I saw it on the ticker on CNN last night while watching the last of the rescue of the miners, and it really bothered me that this has been twisted in the way that it has. If you read the article, and see the video, he said, "He was with GOD, and he was with the devil, but he held on to God's hand." This could mean a lot of things, but in any moment he said he saw them. CNN needs to be more responsible.

Ummm the article actually does not say he "saw" god or the devil. It says he "saw good and evil". And from the video clip at the top of the article he doesn't even say that. He says, " he held on to the hand of god" which I do not believe he meant literally. He was using a metaphor describing how his faith kept him holding on to the hope of being rescued much like the other profuse metaphors in his speech. It's disingenuous to characterise this man as having visions if he didn't in fact say that. I have to say I am glad he had something to hold onto that served him well in keeping his spirits up and kept him calm in what could have been the last moments of his life. I doubt it was the devil or god who threw him into a hole or rescued him. But I'm not quite sure he believes that in a literal sense either. While that shoring up of the events is mildly disturbing to me, I'm not sure it's very different than any of us saying it was bad luck. And he tempers his good vs evil analysis by calling for accountability for management and reform in the industry. He praises the doctors, rescuers and engineers. And he asks that people remember their family and loved ones more because it could be the last time you see them. Honestly, I find nothing really objectionable in his position.

It was wonderful seeing these brave men rescued, and being reuntied with thier loved ones!
Things like this happen, do to natural causes, but I am sure when these men were plunged into total darkness, knowing thier lives were at risk, they pulled thier innermost resoures, faith, God, hope, prayer, all of it out from within themselves to believe they may be rescued. It gave them what they needed to survive under that ground for all those days.

Yes, they did thank each and every person who visibly made it happen, but they also realized that there was more at work then just what could be seen with the naked eye, known as God and answered prayer.

    BTW...Thanks CatholicMom! 🙂

The love and comraderie that was shown amoungst those waiting and the rescued minors, showed the love that Jesus told us to have," Love your neighbor as yourself" was very visual here.

Love thy neighbour was not a concept introduced by Jesus. Many had that stance before he was ever born.

@Bob: Yes, very true. It was not introduced by Jesus. But that doesn't invalidate the fact that it is part of Christian teaching.

People should thank the engineers who saved them, not whatever God let them get trapped in the first place.

Whatever, leave them alone, they're out. They just spent 69 days in hell so I'm pretty sure they can do and say whatever they want right now.

It was a most wonderful sight to watch each person return from the pit and into the arms of Chile.

Yes, we should give thanks to improvements in technology.

I started watching your coverage of the trapped miners from the first minute it was happening and now i am so disappointed with you when you take a political debate over the rescue of these 33 miners you have covered all the recovering till it is time for the debate see real life drama and the rescue of these men are the most important item to be broadcast not a political debate that could be reschduled for a later time or even another day I am very disappointed in your coverage of the last 6 people come up these men should have the same coverage politics will always be around this is a real life

How about the engineers that worked tirelessly to get you out of that hole. Why not try thanking them thanklessly? I know it was an incredible ordeal, one I cannot even fathom. It is understandable someone would, when in an irrational situation, resort to irrational thoughts to help get them through the ordeal. But this nonsense of "god won over the devil" in this case makes me laugh as it had nothing to do with that. It was all the prowess of the scientists and engineers who worked day and night to get them out. I suppose if your god is responsible for getting you out, you might as well blame that same god for getting you in that mess and everything that lead up to it. The engineers deserve the real thanks in this situation.

It must be nice to sit comfortably in your chair and typing away on your computer and criticize the beliefs of someone who has just recently been rescued from a harrowing ordeal.

All of the credit, none of the blame. That is how it works. Anything good happens – the god did it. Anything bad happens – blame humans or that guy with the red tail. For sure, with all the hard work done by the engineers and scientists to rescue these folks, to give credit to a god is a shame.

Yeah, but outside of the Mormons, the Catholics seem to have cornered that market, in Christianity.

Which 'market' are you referring to?

Hallucinations, hallucinations, hallucinations!!! Just like resurrecting bodies, "flying, talking/singing, pretty/ugly thingies", conversion of bread to flesh, water to wine to blood, and other "miracles" like Pio's bloody hands.

I'm sure he did. I'm surprised any of them are still sane.
