South Carolina mosque defaced with bacon

From CNN South Carolina affiliate WMBF:

A national Muslim civil rights and advocacy group is calling on the FBI to investigate a message written in bacon at mosque in Florence.

Three chair members of the Islamic Center in Florence discovered the words "pig" and "chump" written in strips of bacon on the walkway along the mosque Sunday afternoon.

We are a country that guarantee Freedom of Religion. These people should be allowed to worship in peace – just as our forefathers came over to worship in peace. Funny how a lot of people tend to forget that.

Do you not realize war has been declared against us? Whether we want to live in peace and tolerance or not. Islam has declared war against us. They will tell you this clearly. Did you not hear what the Times Square bomber said in court? He said the war has just begun.

Our forefathers also wanted freedom FROM religion. Muslims on the other hand want to drag their primitive beliefs with them when they come here. Why come to America if your goal is to make it just like the country you left.?
Most immigrants come here for a new beginning, some however have no such goals and continue the holy struggle to change America to suit their own image.

Our forefathers may have come to worship in peace, but it sure didn't last very long. And none of us are following the old rituals of the religion that was here when we got here. We destroyed an entire people, destroyed their religion, and now claim righteousness in all things? Just saying ask an indian how he feels about america coming to worship in peace...if you can find one.

@Julie: If there was a war between us and Islam, then we would all have been dead ages ago. They outnumber us. And they probably live in your community. Yet you are still alive. And so are the rest of us. Really, let's stop being so paranoid especially against people who have nothing against you.

I'm appalled that some of you believe all Muslims are terrorists and should be ousted. The men responsible for 9-11 were radical Muslims, there are extremists in every religion. Hitler was raised Catholic and later non-denominational Christian. Should we banish all Catholics/Christians from American society while we're at it? There are nearly 5 million Muslims in the Americas, its time to evolve and practice tolerance.

The fat old women that were dancing in the streets in Pakistan on 9-11 were not terrorists living in caves. They were average, run-of-the-mill muslims. After 9-11, there were towns in Pakistan where posters of Bin Laden hung in every window....average muslims again.

    • Mike

Agree with Julie. Ordinary muslims were laughing and cheering like school kids on 9-11, while WTC jumpers fell like rain.
I will never ever forget that, will never ever forgive that. I would tear down my own house if the bricks were to be used for ovens for those people.

      October 14, 2010 at 1:05 pm |
    • BaconLogic

Really people? I know that they hate us. And they might have a few reasons too...but when those people are baking in the ovens that Mike so gladly tore down his house to make, how many of you will be dancing in the street burning their flags...thus making sure that the next generation of both cultures have to deal with this nonsense again and again and again. Wise up.

I don't like Muslims in groups. I also don't like Christians or Jews in groups either. With individuals I can ususally find some common ground.

Just gotta' comment on the line from "Concerned..." who wrote: "...stoning(which the bible condones in the Old Testament." Christians follow Christ (hence the name!). Jesus had something to say about many of the laws of the Old Testament (for which he caught flak from the Pharisees). They asked him about stoning because they were going to stone a woman for adultery. Jesus said, "Let him that is without sin among you cast the first stone." They all walked away. The Christian Bible, therefore, does not condone stoning.

    • Paulus

Julie, give me a break. Christians do not practice whats in the bible when it comes to "stoning". They just found more creative ways to kill people...nuclear bombs, regular bombs, electrocution, gas, injections....etc.....
So much more civilized...so much more moral to kill with other methods.

      October 14, 2010 at 12:45 pm |
    • JohnQuest

I don't read that as Stoning is forbidden, your God could have said that Stoning is wrong and should not be done but he didn't.

      October 14, 2010 at 1:05 pm |
    • donavon

a woman was brought before Jesus (who Christians believe is God) and He told the accusers that the ones without sin could cast the first stone. each one dropped their stones by their side, and they walked away.

      October 14, 2010 at 1:07 pm |
    • Julie

I was simply responding to someone who said that stoning was in the Bible. Geesh, I can't believe the responses here.

You live almost 3/4 of a century and you find that the most important news story today is bacon grease.

Free speech is protected under the first amendment. It may be hate speech and it may be written in bacon but it is nonetheless a freedom that is protected. It was not on the mosque. It was on a public walkway. The muslims have every right to build mosque in NY even if people don't like it. But they need to learn to accept that others are free to criticize them a well. It's a two way street.

    October 14, 2010 at 12:42 pm |
    • Paulus

Apparently noone told you that we don't have free speech in all cases. Its illegal to paint or draw swastikas at Jewish temple, just like its illegal to leave bacon strips at a muslim mosque. Same thing. Its not free speech....people are free to spout whatever nonsense they want to about islam, but they can't touch or do anything to their property.

Yes, I think in in South Carolina a mosque is too close to Ground Zero... But then again most southerners think anywhere within 6000 light years (the maximum possible size of the universe in their world view) is too close to Ground Zero.

    • whiteknight

I live in the south and anywhere within 6000 light years to the US is too close for this "peace loving" religion full of terrorists and child rapists who worship a child raping prophet so to hell with Islam and all it's filthy terrorists as well as supporters...you whiny people should pull the wool out from in front of your eyes and get off the fence and do something proactive to fight terrorism in our country rather than kissing the terrorists butts if anything you should feel bad for all that poor bacon that was wasted as expensive as that stuff is. I think its a real shame someone didn't burn it to the ground...now that would have been a sight to behold.

You're ignorant. Just because it HAPPENED in SC doesn't mean everyone in SC is ignorant and bigoted. It just means some idiot did something stupid-which could happen anywhere. I was born up North but I have lived in the South for a long time, and I have seen a lot of prejudice-but mostly it's Southerners hating Northerners and vice versa. Get over it already. Our family trees don't fork? Wow, what an original statement. Have you considered stand up comedy?

@SvilleSC: Please read whiteknight's post. He's making people from the south look like prejudiced, violent, uncivilized, ignoramuses.

Think about it.Before 9-11 were you happier and did you feel safer? How do you feel now?If you feel better you probably have changed religions.

This was a prank, it's not like swastica's were painted on the walls or windows were broken. Creative, wastefull but a creative prank. There are mosques that have had a lot worse done to them but we don't hear about it, why choose to cover the bacon story? Not the spray painted racial slurs and the rest? How about the assaults?

Oh whell bacon is funny? This incident is not news, file it under entertainment.

Windows were broken in the same mosque recently.
