South Carolina mosque defaced with bacon

From CNN South Carolina affiliate WMBF:

A national Muslim civil rights and advocacy group is calling on the FBI to investigate a message written in bacon at mosque in Florence.

Three chair members of the Islamic Center in Florence discovered the words "pig" and "chump" written in strips of bacon on the walkway along the mosque Sunday afternoon.

The ultimate irony. They received through faith and lies the ultimate curse....immortality. I shall tell all the faiths of immortality the truth of oblivion...i feel like proving the truth of faith. Never trust what you don't understand Selling the souls for oblivions price,
must be immortal". Spectral mouth tells hopeless truth,
In unknown words massacring the mind, Sanity now dozes and waits for a day,
    Nightmares in their real dimensions,
    No hope now...
    Soon I will die...
No inferno but also no heavens,
No god on his golden throne,
    Promised Eden turned into desert,
    Empty space and dead remains.

I can't decide what is more comical, a religious tenet against bacon, or the use of bacon itself as a method of abuse. If we were to ban religion we could curtail hate crime entirely, as well as mischief such as this.

The problem with people nowadays is that they raise a whole lot of hell about a whole lot of nothing.
This is a whole lot of nothing. Move on.

You don't see americans beheading people or stoning them.

How many beheadings and stonings did these people in south carolina perform....ya'd think we'd see something about stonings in the carolinas on the news? Oh that's right all muslims are the same and these random people in carolina are guilty by association!

The words spoken in 1994 by the late Dr. I. Klein, a Jew, hold very true here: "The problem with people nowadays is that they raise a whole lot of hell about a whole lot of nothing." Amen!

So what did "the religion of peace" do to us to make some Christian put "bacon art" on their on their South Carolina Mosque? Perhaps we should reach out and build a Christian Community Center next to that Mosque and invite our Muslin brothers to a pork chop dinner.

It's sad that some of you don't think this is a bad thing because it wasn't actually "defacing" or that nothing was ruined. Wait until you're the target. When a group is doing something that they know will upset you, it's the intention, not the actual destruction.

And to justify it by saying that it'd be worse back at "home," is ridiculous. Should our laws in this country only protect people based on the human rights of their native countries? Do you people forget why America was created?

Perhaps you'd be interested in the case of the Catholic center in Madison NJ that was vandalized but authorities don't believe it was a bias crime (www.northjersey.com)

I'm "just" as interested. But not necessarily interested in either of them. It's people's reactions to it that interests me.

They want the FBI to investigate? Are they serious? Someone spelled two words with strips of bacon. If bacon offends them that much, maybe they should just go back to their native countries. Taxpayer dollars absolutely SHOULD NOT be used to investigate something so trivial. When someone is hurt or threatened, the FBI should step in. Hell, I don't even think any laws were broken here, except maybe tresspassing. Unless of course they've passed an anti-bacon ordinance, but in South Carolina I doubt that could happen-they love their pork down there!

This isn't the only thing that has happened to them. They had their windows broken recently too. Now this. So they should not call the cops (who called the FBI) and just wait to be firebombed?

      October 14, 2010 at 1:15 pm |
    • Brandonj

Tracy, stop trying to put words into my mouth. I didn't say that they should wait to be firebombed. My comments were based on what was WRITTEN, not based on other data not included in the story. As for windows being broken, I don't know about that-nothing was mentioned of that in this article. If it is true, then perhaps they should install security cameras, and take some additional measures, but it is difficult to launch a full scale FBI investigation over BACON. I love how the PC crowd however wants to overreact to every little thing. The bacon only spelled "pig" and "chump," WHERE'S THE THREAT? It sounds like a teenage prank to me. You seriously need to get a life and quit overreacting to trivial matters.

      October 14, 2010 at 1:21 pm |
    • Tracy

You clearly didn't read the article. 1/2 way down it says the windows were broken.

So 2 instances of this place being targeted doesn't warrant a call to teh cops?

      October 14, 2010 at 1:26 pm |
    • Brandonj

Tracy, once again you are still trying to put words in my mouth. WHERE DID I SAY THAT IT DIDN'T WARRANT A CALL TO THE COPS? Are you really that dense? I read the article, but I'll admit that I missed the part about broken windows. Nevertheless, there is no proof that the incidents are related. I stated that the FBI doesn't need to get involved at this point, and I stand by that declaration. No threat has been declared and it sounds like simple vandalism. If the same thing happened to a Christian Church, the FBI wouldn't get involved. It sounds like the Mosque needs to install some cameras and maybe hire a security guard. Many churches and mosques do this. Not everything is a hate crime and just because some minor vandalism occurs does not mean they will be firebombed. Besides Tracy, please tell me, what is the FBI supposed to do if they catch the Bacon perpetrator? What threat was communicated? Even with the broken windows there's no indication of any threat being made. Sorry, but every little thing that happens to Muslims warrants Federal Intervention. Let the mosque handle security and let the local police investigate minor crimes-that's what they get paid for. It really bothers me that you and so many others think the federal government should intervene in every little thing.

Hatred and Bigotry are the most poisonous, destructive cancer to the human experience, the sooner we cure ourselves of it the better off we'll all be.

lets turn the pigs loose on their properties and put bacon all over because they burned our bible and whine when we threaten to burn their quran so lets throw bacon at them and run them all back out and then lets bomb their countries with bacon bits. remember muslims, pay backs are hell with bacon.

Muslims don't just burn bibles, in some muslim countries a person can be arrested for owning one. How tolerant and peaceful.

Most of you don't get it... Leaving bacon on a Mosque a place where pork of any kind is a big nono. I wish people would learn to live in peace and give it a chance...
