Muslims gather in Washington for 'Islam on Capitol Hill'CNN's Dan Gilgoff filed this report: Hundreds of Muslims turned out Friday for a new annual event in Washington called Islam on Capitol Hill, the event's organizer said Saturday. The event saw hundreds of Muslim children touring the halls of Congress, hours of prayers and speeches on the Capitol lawn, and a banquet at a hotel off the National Mall. "It's important for young Muslims to understand the beauty of this country - that this is a land of freedom, even though there may be people objecting to building a mosque in New York or threatening to burn the Quran," said Abdul Malik, the event's organizer. Exhibit explores how Hitler taught a nation to hatePlaying cards with images of Hitler. Toy fuhrers. And a lamp and church tapestry with swastikas emblazoned across the front. No, it's not a neo-Nazi convention. Rather, it is a groundbreaking exhibit that opened Friday in the German capital and is intended to show Adolf Hitler's relationship with the German people. Germany has produced exhibits on the Holocaust and Nazism before but never since World War II has one focused solely on the man who taught an entire nation to hate. In the run-up to the planned book-burning, Brad Benson Hyundai in New Brunswick offered Jones a vehicle if the pastor backed down on his threat. “We heard on the news that he was going to burn the Quran," Benson Hyundai general manager David Canton told CNN on Saturday. |
