Satanists' event in Oklahoma draws Christian protest

[cnn-video url= http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2010/10/23/pkg.satanist.event.koco%5D

CNN affiliate KOCO reports on a Christian protest outside a Satanist group's event in downtown Oklahoma City (backstory here) :

In downtown Oklahoma City, Satanists held a Ritual in public at the Civic Center.

The ritual began at 8 p.m. Thursday and drew plenty of controversy.

Before making it inside where the Satanists were practicing their religion, prayers were heard outside by groups opposing the ritual.

Chiquita Carbajal said she is against the ritual.

“No place for Satan in Oklahoma,” she said.

This is absolutely ridiculous. First off, look at the physics and the math. Bring in quantum mechanics if you have a problem with some of the calculation. There is no "Supreme Being" and to argue about it is pointless. That's just me.
But to the meat of the story. Everyone seems to support free speech and freedom of religion, but only if it coincides with THEIR belief system. The freedom of speech people, means that EVERYONE has that freedom. These people held a ritual in a PUBLIC park. How about we stop people from disturbing my dinner and pushing religion on my by knocking on my door. Apparently that's acceptable. If these "christians" didn't want to recognize these practices, then they should have stayed home. Their being there to cause trouble was nothing more than a publicity stunt. I guarantee, that at home they stray from their precious bible numerous times a day themselves. The point I'm trying to make is....worry about your own inconsistencies and falsities of your religion before you start in on someone else's. And if you do take it to someone else, you'd better be damned sure that you understand their belief system before trying to knock it down. Or do these "christians" think it's time to cause another diaspora or destroy a country and it's inhabitants under the guise of crusade? To my knowledge, Satanist generally keep to themselves.....Christianity and Islam is a militant religion bent on the destruction of all others. And you wonder why I can say there is no God.

So the Christian (and Mormon) Church, who constantly fight for their First Amendment rights to spew hate have an issue with another religion practicing? Who would have guessed? =/

Suck it up. The First Amendment allows for ALL people to express their freedom of speech and religion wither persecution. Not just the Mighty Christians.

If the Christians get their way and manage to have religion allowed into the schools the Satanists can have their ritual there, in the 3rd grade classroom. Hey, religion is religion. Legally speaking, the Satanists are a recognized religion and, therefore, would have as much legal access to the schools as Christians would. We could put the works of Aleister Crowley up next to the Ten Commandments in the hallway. What, don't like that? Well, then maybe Religion should stay a private individual matter, since Christianity isn't the only one that the door would open for.

I'll throw something in for everyone. The reason why the Christians are protesting (for those of you atheists who seem to think religion is bad) is because they truly believe the satanists mean this country no good. If you don't stand against that which you believe is evil (or bad if you don't believe in evil), it will take over and start telling you what to do. This is why there was a civil war in America, it is why there were sit ins held in in Greensboro, NC, and it is why Protestants are called "Protestants". Hope this helps somebody.

I truly believe that Christians are dragging this country down with their ignorant fairy tales. They're trying to push their archaic myths on everyone else. And their trying to do it through legislation. They need to be opposed at every step.

Be sure you vote for the Dems in November. A vote for the Religious Right puppet, the Republicans, is a vote for a theocracy.

These dumb xtians don't realize that "Satanism" isn't the actual worship of "satan or devil"...it's self worship. What a group of dummies. It's laughable, they really are naive.

    Muneef!

Us soldiers have helped many in Iraq. Did you forget, or just never acknowledge what a horrible dictator Saddam was? Killing people in heinous ways, including children!
We are responsible for all that suffers or dies? Really? I think you need a "reality" check.
    Why are you so brainwashed?
I think I agree with REALITY the poster here.

I believe that people have a right to demonstrate and worship however they wish, but in my own beliefs, as a true Christian, I would be praying for the souls of those "Satanists" and asking God to enter the hearts of each and every one of them. I realize that some of you believe that God is this "imaginary person" but I am making it a personal goal to testify that he is not and that he is very much real. To claim that there is no Heaven or Hell, no God or Satan....I will pray for you in hopes that when Judgment Day arrives, God will take mercy upon you. To know that even in death, I will one day see my family again and not be rotting in the ground into nothingness, I can't think of a better way to spend eternity. Why is that so bad? Why is it wrong?

So many of you criticize that Christians shouldn't be standing up for our religion, but I say it is our duty to do so. God doesn't need back up, he can take care of everything on his own; however, as Christians, we should be standing up for God and making sure that our personal relationship with Jesus Christ is one that won't be questioned in the end.

Think of the uproar that would occur if Satanist protested those that attend church. Respect everyone's religion as you expect others to respect yours or your lack thereof.

If the power of Jesus is so much greater than anything Satan can cojure up, why are you so worried about it?

How naive, you REALLY think it's worshipping a "horned" being/man? You don't even know what Satanism is obviously, so please be quiet & stop being so ignorant. You REALLY don't know what you're talking about.

My ONLY issue with it (and I am going to raise the double standard flag here) – If the Christians would have held a "ritual" event at the civic center, the ACLU would have sued saying that it violated a separation of church and state (which does not even exist) because the civic center is was built with city funds. So, where is the ACLU here to sue the satanists for holding a ritual on city property? (Remember, Christian students were recently kicked off of a monument in D.C. just for praying around it.)

I'm going to Satan's Sweet 16 Hell On Earth Halloween party this weekend. It's gonna be off the hook. All the dead celebrities in hell will be there. Princess Diana, Ghandi, Mother Theresa, Steve Irwin, Dahmer, Gacy & Bundy. Hope the Ferarri cake works out this time.

"All the dead celebrities in hell will be there. Princess Diana, Ghandi, Mother Theresa, Steve Irwin, Dahmer, Gacy & Bundy."

Why would the first four names you mentioned be in hell? They weren't evil people, as far as I know. They had faults, yes. But on the level of Dahmer, Gacy and Bundy? Come on!
