[cnn-video url= http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2010/10/23/pkg.satanist.event.koco%5D

CNN affiliate KOCO reports on a Christian protest outside a Satanist group's event in downtown Oklahoma City (backstory here) :

In downtown Oklahoma City, Satanists held a Ritual in public at the Civic Center.

The ritual began at 8 p.m. Thursday and drew plenty of controversy.

Before making it inside where the Satanists were practicing their religion, prayers were heard outside by groups opposing the ritual.

Chiquita Carbajal said she is against the ritual.

“No place for Satan in Oklahoma,” she said.

Sounds like a bunch of followers of LeVey. An excuse for debauchery and the use of illegal drugs rather than any actual religious beliefs. Those without belief using the inverted trappings of belief to as an excuse for licence.

"All I say is that I think it is damned unlikely that anything like a central cosmic will, a spirit world, or an eternal survival of personality exist. They are the most preposterous and unjustified of all the guesses which can be made about the universe, and I am not enough of a hair-splitter to pretend that I don't regard them as arrant and negligible moonshine. In theory I am an agnostic, but pending the appearance of radical evidence I must be classed, practically and provisionally, as an atheist. – H.P. Lovecraft c. 1932

Rel-igion is beli-eving that this life is ter-rible and there will be a bet-ter one after de-ath. After de-ath, you rot in the ground. But every rel-igion tries to "soften the blow," which winds up making their adh-erents work their whole life to make a payc-heck they'll never really get to cash. It sequ-esters you away from the world. It gives you false hope for the future of yourself. It's really very sel-fish.

Worry instead about the future of our world. Worry about whether or not your chil-dren will be happy, because THEY are your hope. They are you, being carried on into the future. Make a better world for them if you want hope for the future, and live life to the ful-lest if you want hap-piness and peace now. This world is so amazing, but so many relig-ious people fail to see how awe-some it is because it's just something else that G-od threw together in six days... Study science, study nature and geo-logy and bio-logy, study ast-ronomy, watch Carl Sag-an's beautiful epic doc-umentary "COSMOS," and you will see that today is worth living without rel-igion or gods. Look into the eyes of your chil-dren, and you will see hope for tom-orrow.-capnjammer

i am in love with living now. hoping for something more does not in any take away from that.

That's great. But I'm sorry to say that there is nothing after this life. If there even was, how do you know that it isn't something that a Buddhist or a Muslim or the ancient Greeks or Persians believed in? How can you be sure that God won't throw you into H-ell because you don't believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster?

I'm not here to argue your personal religion... I'm here to say that religion is a destructive force and its followers need to stop trying to take away other people's rights. If your religion isn't the kind that likes to get in people's way, well, kindly step out of mine. Otherwise, yes, I'm talking to you. You originally posted "Without God there is no hope," and I was responding to you "Yes, there clearly is." If you don't think so, you are saying that what I believe, ie. that you don't need God to be happy, is wrong, which makes you one of the people I'm talking to here. If you don't like my beliefs and think I shouldn't have them, you shouldn't be allowed to have yours.

Why did these "Satanists" announce their meeting to the public in the first place?

    October 24, 2010 at 7:40 pm |

Why do catholics or other believers announce their meetings in advance? Becasue they are trying to recruit attendees? Because they are not yet embarassed to admit in public that they continue to believe childish supernatural beliefs?

    Ok I get it!

I really get it that there are aspects of my faith that deeply trouble you. I understand that you do not like it when someone else judges you for not sharing similar viewpoints. It must be painful to be disrespected and called names because of what you believe in.

But on these forums, the tables are totally turned. In just this one thread, Christians have been called “make-believe,” “sycophantic,” and “extremely stupid,” among many, many other insults. God has been called a “malevolent egotistical deity” and been compared to Santa Claus. This happens every time on this site.

Yet, for whatever reason, somehow it is perfectly OK by you that all of this is supposed to hurt me. Yes I have beliefs; and when people actually take such a concerted effort to jab at my beliefs it offends me. That doesn't make me a hypocrite; it makes me a human. But when this happens and at the same time you mock and laugh at me for being a hypocrite, it just boggles my mind.

I realize that this won't change anyone's viewpoints. I would just like to point out that the next time you randomly type some hateful comment about Christianity, you don't look like an enlightened superior being who somehow managed to evolve while the rest of us are stuck in the Middle Ages. Instead, you look like the Belief Blog forum trolls that you are.

One last thing: Someone actually took the time to post “my heaven will be a more 'heavenly' place since there will be no selfrighteous [sic] Christians there.” Wow. How (or why) do we even argue with that gem?

At least u never hear of satanic priests molesting children and covering it up, or fleecing their gullible flock of their cash to support their lavish lifestyles. Religion is a complete sham people, the sooner you all realize it, the better off you ll be.

There is plenty of hope, you have just been tricked by your religion into thinking that way. Without God, you are free to choose your own meaning of life. Do you really need God to tell you to be a good person? If so, you are a sociopath.-capnjammer

i'm not worried about being a good person and i'm not a sociopath. what is meaning of life when it's over and done with in a few decades, at most?

The meaning of life ( the job of human kind ) is procreation ( having babies to continue the species ) simple enough ?

      @anonymous

If you are not worried about being a good person and not trying to be one, then you ARE a sociopath.
You aren't going to get an honest meaning for life from a delusional belief system.
And having purpose is very simple, no religion needed. Try thinking, even if it hurts you. It's better than being a Republican.

Satanism is like an honest version of what most Christians practice. Completely wrong and evil. I'm not trying to be divisive, I've actually spent the last few years researching Satanism and Christianity and most Christians are pure Luciferians. They worship destruction, jealousy, hatred, death, etc. They've been taught by the mainstream Christian churches that hatred is obedience to god. The true god does not recognize hatred and the false god creates a channel for hatred that helps you destroy yourself.

If you can't change someone else with your wisdom, don't try. We are all free to make up our own minds. If they do not hear you, move on.

I'm so tired of some people posting things here they believe, but state them as facts.

First of all, Christians need to know what they are complaining about. Satanism pre-dates Jesus. Therefore, it is not (cannot be) the anti-jesus religion you see in movies. They simply do not see Christians as a religious opposite and rival.
Only twisted teenagers are part of the Hollywood made-up satanic-evil garbage. That belongs in the movies and is not a real religion.

Secondly, unicorns are white, NOT pink. Just because they are invisible doesn't mean they don't have feelings and a deep desire to be accepted for what they are. Just like the young people rebelling against society and thier parents, unicorns are jjust waiting for the right people to see them and understand them.

Thirdly, if you would all admit that HATE does not beloong in your religion, and try to be a little more of what you keep telling everyone else to be, Maybe my devine unicorns would let you see them, too.

Those of you saying christians bash thier beliefs down other peoples throats, those are the ones that the media usually publicize and other christians are embarrassed of them. i do not like it when people are forced. its a choice that only you can make.

    October 24, 2010 at 7:03 pm |

Ben: do you vote against g-ay marriage? Just wondering. You may not think you're bashing your beliefs down others throats, but you are. And if you aren't, you aren't a very good Christian. Why follow the book at all if you are only going to accept a few choice things that Jesus said instead of the whole thing?

Now notice they were in the public at a Civic Center doing this. If Christians were in the public at a Civic Center our
anit-Christ government would have immediately intervened to try and stop it. Signs of our times!!!

    October 24, 2010 at 7:01 pm |
    • capnjammer

Really? Get a grip on reality. Have you ever heard of a superchurch? Do you know how many churches meet at civic centers every week with thousands of members? I do, because I've preached at such churches. Just because the government doesn't want you in charge of everyone else doesn't mean they're anti-Christ, and I think it's a wonder you believe they aren't on your side considering there are people suffering in this country right now because of all the evil, self-serving, unconst-itutional Christian legislation which has gotten passed.

You are so full of shlt. You can go to that Civic Center right now and PAY for the use of it just like the "Satanists" did.

No gov't money was used to support or promote the recent "Satanist" event – your attempt at fear-mongering is pathetic.
