Christine O'Donnell says prayer impacts her pollsEditor's Note: CNN's Shannan Adler brings us this story from the CNN Political Ticker. In a recent interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network, Christine O'Donnell listed both God and Gloria Steinem as sources of inspiration and influence when times get tough on the campaign trail. The interview was conducted by CBN's The Brody File on Friday at Wesley College in Dover, Delaware and is posted on CBN's website. O'Donnell cited a double standard she believes is being applied to women, specifically conservative women who choose to run for office. "I don't feel it because I don't watch the news. (Laughs) No. I do feel it. There's certainly a double standard and I don't often quote Gloria Steinem but she said you can look at a double standard if they wouldn't attack the male opponent that way and there's no doubt that they wouldn't say the things they're saying about me, they wouldn't do the things that they're doing if I weren't a woman. I'm not whining but there certainly is a double standard especially when it comes to conservative woman." |

Way to go Christine! Declared beaten within seconds of the polls closing, with 0% of the vote counted. You clearly need to pray more, or better yet, figure out that as long as you believe in supernatural beings, you will be a loser!
Now we just need to get Sarah Palin off the stage. Gotta love news this week that the GOP has figured out she can't win a general election for prez.
Does she try to think of ways to shoot herself in the foot?
Give it a rest, lady. Any candidate who campaigned against masturbation and who claimed to have a high school date on a bloody satanic altar, among other stupidity, would be getting the same laugh treatment. Male or female. Remember Dan Quayle? Get a brain AND THEN cry discrimination, you loon.
"Christine O'Donnell listed both God and Gloria Steinem as sources of inspiration and influence when times get tough on the campaign trail."
Gloria Steinem?! That's a surprise to me.
@Frank
My thoughts are she wanted to associate herself 'a bit' with someone who has fought for equality for women for a long time.
However, @Frogist, up above, has a really nice link to an interview done with Ms. Steinem. In the interview Ms. Steinem shares her thoughts about Ms. O' Donnell.
Oh, I know why she's doing it. She's just another political opportunist. I just wasn't prepared for that sentence. Lol.
@Frank
Agreed...
"listed both God and Gloria Steinem as sources of inspiration".
That seems like a rather contrary pairing to me as much of what Ms Steinem has come to represent over the years seems to contradict God's instructions. Note to women – I'm not referring to her women's rights stand, but most of the other things she's done or said.
To me it speaks volumes for Ms O'Donnells lack of clarity and judgment. For the republicans to choose her, and continuing to cater to Palin seems an embarrassment.
@Saved 1980: While I'm sure we disagree about what Ms Steinem represents, we can totally agree on O'Donnell's lack of qualifications and on the Republicans Palin pandering. (Wow say that 5 times fast.)
Agreed, Saved 1980.
If she had any less brain activity she'd be on life support with a machine breathing for her.
I vote republican and agree with tea party. I cant stand religious fanatics though. I dont like O donnel @ all.
@Gary
The Republicans are the puppets of the Religious Right. If the Republicans take over congress, the Religious Right will begin to create a theocracy. Jesus will be the head of state. Only the Religious Right will be able to hear Jesus. They will tell the nation what Jesus says. I'll bet Jesus always agrees with the them. I don't want to dance to the tune that the Religious Right will whistle.
Please consider voting for the Dems in November. Let's remain a free country.
It bothers me that she's trying to get votes by playing the gender card. Especially since she basically agreed to wearing a bikini if that would get her votes. I think if she was a man we would and should still be talking about her money issues and all the crazy footage of her on tv. If anything, I think the gender thing is helping her. Do you think a male candidate who said he dabbled in witchcraft and was a christian for the italian food would still be running? Actually, in this environment, who knows?
And Ms Steinem isn't exactly a fan either:

@Frogist
Hey CK..
Good post.. and.. very nice find on the (link) interview with Gloria Steinem.
Peace...
@Peace2all: Not a problem SM! I couldn't help it. I had to know what Glo thought about her. Esp since I think Witchy Christine is just using her name to push her "womanness" as a valid reason to vote for her.
Let's see, we have to put up with this silly person for about 1 more week, then we have to weather two years of "Palin for Prez" – this is almost enough to make this atheist identify with mythical Job. We are being punished... Not by any god though!!
Her statements are disturbing. She believes that a god is going to get her elected. Does she also believe that a god will take care of all of the country's problems? Does she believe that she will not need to do anything as a Senator because 'it's all in gods hands'?
"Jesus, take the wheel!" Eh?
The Religious Right would do politically, what they have been hoping Jesus would do on his 2nd trip. I am scared Eric. My wife often finds me beneath our bed, babbling about the Tea baggers.
Well, I can't speak for Ms O'Donnell, her sincerity or soundness of her faith.
But to answer your question, God will take care of all the country's problems, yes, I do believe that. But that is dependent on us (his Church) and all people of that nation to turn to Him and please Him.
See – 2 Chronicles 7:14. Same promise still applies today to all who serve Him, in truth and humility.

So..... What you are saying is we have to "please Him."=problems in our country go away.
And I am assuming that apparently, if (we) don't somehow please Him=problems are here to stay..?
And out of curiosity, how exactly are (we) supposed to please him..? And, how can you be so sure of this..? And, try and come up with an answer that doesn't include bible scripture, or I just 'feel it in my heart.'
Peace2All
To answer your first two questions, yes that's exactly what I'm saying. Look at the troubles, debt, and moral depravity of this nation. I hate to say, but it's way beyond us being able to fix ourselves.
To answer your third question, I wouldn't have to use scripture. But you, knowing the answer and truth have already denied Him, because you refuse to pray and search your heart. He does talk to us, the hard part is getting ourselves out of the way and listening. So you either have to accept that or continue denying the Truth. I don't have to say or prove anything. That's what Faith is all about. 🙂
Saved 1980,
"He does talk to us..."
What exactly does "He" say? Does he tell you anything that you don't already know... or things that you couldn't figure out with a little thought and logic, or things that you couldn't dream up using your imagination? Really... you are talking to yourself.

So, you 'ARE' saying we need to please Him, otherwise bad will continue to happen. Hmmm. I see. So, the big guy needs to be 'pleased.'...? Why would the Almighty of everything need us to ....'please' him. According to you, He is sounding like a very 'needy' fellow.. Well, since you are sticking to that particular fundamentalist 'idea' about God...... That doesn't look, sound or feel like much of a God to me.
But, hey let's just throw any and all critical thinking and reasoning skills out the window, and ....just 'believe.' Even if... your assertions are absolutely ludicrous.
And, our troubles being beyond our ability to fix..... There is nobody else to do it... but us. God is going to solve our wars, debt... and not sure what you are referencing as to 'moral depravity.'....? The needy self-serving God, who needs our worship and needs us to please Him, and this God, if He decides to, based on said worship and pleasing Him will fix our problems...?
I fill the need to call you on your sheer blind... faith, which.... does not =fact or Truth.
You also said:

There is a 'whole' lot I could dismantle in this last paragraph of yours, but I want to focus on the last part.
Your assertion.... that I either have to accept that or..continue denying the (T)ruth. I(You) don't have to say or prove anything. That's what (F)aith is all about."
That is the typical fundamentalist cop-out.... Once you start to get pinned down as to how do you know specifically... You guys always try and use that particular gambit.
Doesn't work, as 'YOU' are making the 'extraordinary' claims. 'Extraordinary claims, require 'extraordinary *proof.*
And lastly, you so totally lose all credibilty anyway by using ...(TRUTH) and (FAITH) in your argument. You can't make a claim off of no evidence, and say you are playing the 'faith' card, while also claiming it as ...'Truth' or Fact.
In essence, what you are saying is.... You can just make any claims as to Truth, and yet attribute it to Faith... Are you kidding....?
When to be totally honest here you do know.. I hope that .... Beliefs and having Faith, are just that 'beliefs'... they, especially in this context.. DO NOT=FACTS.
Peace...
@Peace2All.
Please don't feel that my saying that's what Faith is for is my refusal or inability to explain anything. What I say, and I'm willing to believe most who you've talked to about this over the years are saying is "If we try to, or even could explain everything away, and get Salvation down to signing your name to a piece of paper, then it's not worth anything. That's why sacrifice is important. Faith has to be a choice, not forced onto anyone.
As for the rest of your counter-statements, those things you question are exactly what the Bible says, all the way through. But your statement of God being selfish...? Well, I won't say that. But since He created us and all the universe, and is bigger than all of that, and then some, I think a little obedience and thanks are in good order. And no, I've lost no credibility. But if you feel I have, then it's only of this world and of no value or consequence.
As for my extraordinary proof, I would offer my Testimony of the day I was Saved, that hot summer day in 1980, standing in my driveway, getting ready to leave for work. It was at that point I finally was able to get this body of mine out of the way and just surrender to the Lord and put all trust in Him, and admit that He has all power, not man. At that moment the peace, joy and happiness that came over me, and filled me. For a brief instant I felt very close to Him. Nothing else in this life has ever felt any better than that day, no blessings I've received since have been as good as that. And when He Saved me, the very laws were put in my heart. Yes, when I do wrong, I feel it and know it, and not in the same way as a conditioned or learned response from teaching. I know. That's the best proof I know to provide. Nothing else can hurt or take that away. 🙂
Have a peaceful, good night.

ME- I was taking issue of your using Faith=The Truth argument. Nothing wrong with you having 'faith' or believing. But, please don't claim it as Truth.

ME- Since there is no proof, of any afterlife, and all we 'really' know is about the here and now, then to assume otherwise is yet, more 'belief' not fact.

ME-- Still is just an 'experience' with 'your' own personal 'interpretations' of the experience. While I am certainly happy for you, that you found your own 'belief' system that works for you, it is still not some proof or fact of God. But, again.... I am very, sincerely happy for you.... If believing what you believe works for you.
Have a peaceful, good night.
@Saved 1980
You too have a peaceful, good night as well... Thanks for chatting with me.
Peace...
Peace2All-
I enjoyed your conversation with Saved 1980.
So, for Jesus to fix everything in this country we have to worship him, eh? Isn't that the same as a new tax?
@NL
Thanks... glad you enjoyed it.
And... yes, LOL... yes, it would be like a 'new tax.' yep...! 🙂
I meant to add, if they win or even comes close to winning it will take a miracle. Divine intervention or a really screwed up electorate or faulty voting machines.
Wouldn't something that goes so catastrophically bad be better described as a disaster? I guess, in the great balance of things, every miracle comes at a cost to someone, right?
She doesn't watch the news? How can someone be running for any sort of office and not watch the news? Not that I would have ever voted for this loon anyway, but if that doesn't turn some people off, I don't know what will!
Sarah came within shouting distance of the VP office, anything is possible.
Palin/O'Donnell 2012, that would almost make me into a believer.
Well, it might make be believe that the Mayans were on to something about that year marking the end of time.
@JohnQuest
Hey John..!
I gotta' say, every time you keep posting your possible 'End of Day's' line-up, it makes my skin crawl. Yikes...!!!!
My God this woman is an idiot and now I wonder...insane as well. Aren't her 15 minutes up yet???
She's got about a week left.
SeanNJ, I thought the same thing about Sarah but she is still around making mischief.
Prayer does impact her polls. Lately, it has had a negative impact. So I suppose she isn't lying.
@Luke
Hey pal...
I had not seen the most recent polls.... So, if you are correct, 'our' prayer's are working. Good to know!
Amen!
She's behind at least 10 to 15 points in the polls depending upon who is conducting them; obviously my prayers are being answered.
Her losing is just becoming a self fulfilling prophecy if you ask me.
I don't doubt that there are many, many people out there who say the same prayer every time her name gets mentioned:
"Oh God!, not her! Please, anybody but her!"
LOL@NL: She has done what no one else could. Bring us non-believers to prayer.Maybe they should make her a saint.
@Frogist & NL
Amen... My sister & brother..!
She said... basically, "I am running for office 'because' of God." And.... "Prayer works, as the polls spiked in her favor after a prayer meeting."
This is the kind of 'fundamentalist' craziness that we do not want in any office of politics. Because, from these radical fundamentalist 'beliefs' flow–actions, which they will attempt to run our country with and turn into policy–law of the land.
These 'extreme' fundamentalists are scary, and, I for one, do not want anything to do with the kind of government that these people would want to bring into our country.
Let's just bring on the 'End of Day's' christian biblical fundamentalists into office and see how things go..? NO WAY..!!!
Yes, because an apparently omiscient being needed to be informed of her current poll status. Upon being informed, the great one got off his cloud and changed some people's minds. The purpose, to elect someone he likes into office.
When the almighty was asked "But you're all powerful, can't you just make her get in on your will? Why the needlessly complex plan?" God replied. "I dunno."
This woman is crazy. Nevada! Please recognize this. Don't vote for this idiot.
@David Johnson
Hey Pal...
Did i miss something.... ? I thought she was running in *Delaware*....?
Just checkin'
@Peace2All
Yes, I'm sorry. It's this multi_tasking. I was thinking of Sharron Angle in Nevada. My bad. Thank you for correcting this.
@DJ: I wouldn't worry about it. I can't tell them apart anyway.
LOL..!!@Frogist
The irony.... I 'did' pretty much have Angel and O'Donnell confused in my head for the moment, as one and the same.
That was one of the reasons for checking with DJ, just to be sure..
