Bishop: Virgin Mary apparition did appear

Editor's note: This report comes from Ben Krumholz of CNN Affiliate WLUK in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

An apparition of the Virgin Mary did appear in rural Brown County in 1859, Bishop David Ricken of the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay has ruled.

Ricken announced his findings at a crowded, invitation-only Mass Wednesday morning at the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help in Champion. The site has been a popular destination for prayer since word of the apparent apparition, which was reported by Sister Adele Brise, a Belgian-born nun.

“To see that so many good things have come about here, story after story after story, its living proof that something very authentic is here,” said Bishop Ricken.

Ricken’s declaration makes the shrine the only site of an approved apparition in the United States, according to the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay. It is now considered to have the same status as other well-known sites, such as Lourdes, France; Guadalupe, Mexico; and Fatima, Portugal.

The painter is God. That is the big bold claim that the church is making in the face of science. Wheres the science experts to despute it? If it were not it would be easy for experts to determine that is it being a 500+ years old image on a 500+ year old Tilma (Made out of cactus material) . The experts are not hard to dinf and Im sure you already googled it.
    Once again remmeber Fatima ...
Fatima was in 1917... jounalist and poeple showed up in disbelief including church members... the children ask the virgin for a sign for the unbelievers...(you all)... eventually many ran when they saw the sun dancing (left their cameras on the stand) others rejoiced... some still explained it away because they didnt want to believe. (Did I mentioned it was witnessed by 70,000 people. This is your 2nd chance to believe. Dont miss it. Be transformed by th emessage to repent. It is not for catholic only. Yes the mother of the word appeared in Cairo and thats what spun this blog in the first place.... Mary appeared in view of christians and muslims. She is the tabernacle of God and the link to world conversion.

Also about Our lady of guadalupe

Richard Kuhn, a Nobel Prize winner in chemistry, who said he found that the image did not have natural, animal or mineral colorings and since there were no synthetic colorings in 1531, the image is "inexplicable".

Our Lady of Guadalupe ...again ....For science...
1979 Americans Philip Callahan and Jody B. Smith studied the image with infrared rays and discovered to their surprise that there was no trace of paint and that the fabric had not been treated with any kind of technique

Jose Tonsmann (From Cornell) says that although the dimensions are microscopic, the iris and the pupils of the image's eyes have imprinted on them a highly detailed picture of at least 13 people. The same people are present in both the left and right eyes, in different proportions, as would happen when human eyes reflect the objects before them.

How has science explaned of our lady of guadalupe. How has CNN explained Our Lady of Guadalupe. (This is a great story) Our lady's eyeball in the image "painted by God Hillary" has the reflection of Juan Diego and the bishop in it (the indian and bishop) in her iris. This image has been studied by NASA and Ivy league professors and they cant explain it, so if Nasa cant explain it... why not give Our Lady th ebenefit of the doubt and stop fighting what is not unusual in biblical history for divine intervention i.e. Enoch, ELijah, Angels...etc
How about our lady of fatima (appeared at first two 3 little children on the 13th of each month)(last sign witnessed by 70,000 including skeptic communist jounalist ) watch the History channel they have an episode about its "coincidences" in the fall of Communism
Our lady of Kibeho in Africa predicting the genocide to the "three approved" african school girls one of the girls doubted until mary appeared to her and showed her the genocide that was about to happen and warned the parrish and people if they didnt learn to forgive this is what was due to take place and 13 years later 1million people were hacked by another tribe . One tribe was for one political party and th eother was for another political party (Her message was for all religions all people... she was asked about religion by one of the three girls...and she said it didnt matter which religion belief you were... so protestant , catholic, muslem where all around in the area) she retaught the rosary of the seven sorrows that will transform your heart to a forgiving a loving peaceful one if you recite it. Ask Immaculee she said it in a 4×3 bathroom for 91 days while her village was hacked and came out with a heart of forgiveness. CNN has done a special on her.
The catholic church is very picky when it comes to approving marian apparations, (They still havent approved Medjagoree, Yugoslavia) however many claims all around exist, but they only approve ones that are studied for many many years and are studied closely to the point of it being obviously a true apparation without any doubt.

Our Lady of Kibeho, Queen of Africa... Pray for Us that we may be worthy of the promises of christ

It is trivial to fid article calling these alleged miracles into question. With respect to the lady of Guadeloupe, priests claim to know the painter. I can find references to scientists from/employed by NASA examining the painting, but no support for NASA conducting a formal investigation or issuing a report. Looks to me that believers are improperly using a loose connection to NASA to provide apparent support to this myth.

I highly encourage you to look for "the rest of the story" whenever you hear about a muscle. I don't think any have stood up to a formal public independent scientific investigation.

I find it appauling that the Chatholic Church is going to ruin my home, I live within 1/2 mile of the Chapel (as we have always called it) and this will distroy our way of like, this will bring every jesus freak from all over the world to us and developers to build hotels, restaurants and people to sell every kind of relgious junk they can manufacture. The bishop came here and saw his oppurtunity for promotions, does he get to go straight to Rome now and and be a cardinal? They get to make buckets of money and the rest of us who live here because its quiet and safe and beautiful get to deal with the crap they have created.

To all: Yes, yes. terrible things have been done in the name of religion, these are almost always political actions carried out in the name of a religion so as to obviscate what is really going on. From individual persecution to all out war on on entire regions of countries to the division of a country that already existed into two 'states' by walls and check points. Real religion, without political motivations, offers hope to those who may otherwise have none in this life and if you read the religious texts very closely can be practiced on one's own, without costing any more than a little time to read and pray any where one may be. Religion offers a frame work on which to base a moral life as well. The promise of a Heaven is offered by Christianity and Islam (the Muslim's religion's actual name). This is an enticement and motivator yes, but may also be a real state of mind as one passes from this life, if not an actual physical place, with the good that one has done playing over and over in their mind. Just a Hell may be a real state of mind for the person who has lived a morally bancrupt life and realizes it as they play back over and over again the recording of what they might have done and what it COST them in life during their moment of death, whether or not they actually land there. Choose carefully and let those who have chosen find thier own deserved and reward...you will not solve this question by quarreling on-line in what is basically a chat room.

Wow. CNN posts a story today that the average 7 year old has figured out Santa is not real, but the Catholic church hasn't been able to make the same intellectual leap about the mother of god.

It can't be at the same level as Lourdes and Fatima. The pope and Rome have to approve it for that. Not just the Bishop of the actual diocese. Ha! Note that Mary has been appearing in Medjugorje for 20+ years but it is not approved. True, Rome can't approve it because it's still going on. But I will wait to hear from the pope on this little Wisconsin church.

The bigotry and ignorance of atheists is always astonishing. Anti-Catholicism is the last smug PC retreat of the "liberal" fanatics, who more closely resemble the hate-filled members of the Westboro "Baptist" Church (DON't blame that lot on the perfectly respectable REAL Baptists!). As Chesterton said, "Any stigma will do to beat a dogma." Trith and justice go out the window.

For the record, Adele Brise was not a nun; she wore a religious dress much later in life, but never took religious vows. At 28 in 1859 frontier Wisconsin or rural Belgium, she was an unmarried, middle-aged woman from an immigrant family prosperous enough to buy a farm, but not well-off enough to but one less distant than Wisconsin. As a volunteer teacher of religion, she alternated brutally hard farm-work with MORE hard work! She had to walk up to 50 miles to teach.

As a result of her visions, a school and later other good places were built. .

Now - WHY is doing good acts hateful to so many people here? Socrates expects us to show our love of community by serving it as teachers, healers, parents, and generally good citizens.

Which is more believable, that a young girls was seduced by a dashing Roman soldier, or that god got him some? -- More believable is that there was absolutely nothing unusual with his birth and whole life before he went to see John Baptist. The stories about his birth and infancy were invented later when "holy" people had the need to fill the gap. I think the "Pantera" story is parody of gospels themselves with their virgin birth claim. "Pantera" looks very much just like a corruption of "Parthena" which is "virgin" in Greek,
