Ohio woman says markings in pistachio look like Jesus' face

Some call a central Ohio woman a little "nutty," but she says to use your imagination.

Michelle Phipps, of Dublin, thinks an image on a pistachio shell she found has a striking resemblance to Jesus.

A co-worker brought the nuts into the office to share with other employees. Phipps said one of the nuts stood out from the rest.

Her co-workers thought they saw some other images in the nut.

"We all started joking about it and talking about it. One thought it looked like Jason from a movie, or Freddy Kruger or George Washington. All sorts of things," Phillips said.

This is a ridiculous story, probably intended as a slight to Christianity. CNN will kill Christmas by a thousand little cuts.

This belongs in the National Enquirer.

An excellent example of pareidolia. Our evolution relied on us seeing faces within complex patterns whether we were cooperating with our kin, intermpreting dominant expressions, or trying to avoid predators. As a consequence we are keenly able to find patterns in randomness. There are a lot of pistachios out there, the odds are better that there are better faces out there. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareidolia

I could be wrong on this, but I believe from your comment that you are thinking this woman is from Ireland(Dublin).

When actually, she apparently lives in or is from 'Dublin, Ohio.'

IRAN: Responding to the reports of a pistacio that looked like Muhammad, radical muslims took to the streets in protest bearing signs that said "Death to Pistachios" and "Shells don't save you from bombs".

The leader, Ackbar McDurkaDurka was quoted as saying this "The time of Islamic insults must stop. The nuts shall be killed and they shall be martyred. They shall reap the rewards and have 72 cashew virgins in heaven."

When asked if he thought the pistachios would heed and fear his warning he responded. "They'd be fools not to."

Indeed :). A friend of mine has a t-shirt of Che Guevara where his face resembles that of this article. But again, I guess that we see what we want to see. A bit like when we look at the clouds. 😉

How does she know that it looks like Jesus when she's never ever seen Jesus? And why is any crudely formed face found in food automatically assumed to be Jesus? Couldn't it be Muhammad's face?

    December 24, 2010 at 11:46 am |
    • David Johnson

Dude! How could Jesus's face have gotten on the shell?

It is a miracle of god! And we are here to witness it! I feel blessed. But it may be the beer...

We are in the last days, my friend. The very last.

      Happy Holidays man!

      December 24, 2010 at 1:44 pm |
    • DoubleWW

Gosh, I didn't know Jesus was clean-shaven... or am I looking at it upside-down?

    • RSJ

Always makes me smile when pictures of "Jesus" appear on fruit and veg and get to feature on the news.
But when people actually go on a pilgrimage to see these images it,s truly hilarious.

      December 24, 2010 at 4:07 pm |
    • RussInTx

Nope, it could not be Muhammad's face, unless there is a bomb on the other side.

    • Muneef

Dear's, am happy for you seeing you spirits are up high and just hope not all just caused by enjoying spirits, haha.
Any way commenting on your posts yes we do some times see images on fruits or nuts or stones but how can we tell it to be looking Jesus or like Muhammed when no one has a true image of either of them and that any images made for Jesus are of mere imagination of few from the past?
Guess until now you have not decide if Jesus looked Whiteman or Blackman or Darkman of Middle Eastern complexions...?
Once a day before Iraq invasion my farm labors brought me a one Mango Fruit from one of my farm trees and it was having like a mouth with lips open as if shouting out No No No but you did...!?

      December 25, 2010 at 7:07 pm |
    • Muneef

Well actually looking closer to the image above it looked to me having a black beard and a complextions much like Abraham Lincoln the great man who fought against salvery and freed slaves towards which he had paid out his life for it...?

And such as this could be a warning that some one who had taken Abraham Lincoln as a example and wanted to achieve a similar achievement for Humenity during his life "you know who" is at great danger of facing the same faith by his own..

For which I pray for him the mercy of Allah to save him and grant him strength and assistance to achieve all good deeds towards world peace...Amen.

    • Sparky McSparkerton

      And this makes the news?
And yeah, it kills me, anything that remotely resembles a face on anything, they start screaming jesus. This of course, is based on anglo-saxon-looking european paintings of a middle-eastern man...(rolls eyes)
