Pastor Joel Osteen: Homosexuality is "a sin"

Best-selling author and Pastor Joel Osteen, and his wife Victoria Osteen, are the guests on Wednesday's "Piers Morgan Tonight," and the hour-long discussion touches on faith, finances, charity and more.

But one part related to a topic Osteen rarely discusses – sin. Specifically, why homosexuality is a sin, and according to the scriptures, Elton John is a sinner.

"The scriptures shows that it's a sin," said Osteen in the interview. "But you know, I'm not one of those that are out there to bash homosexuals and tell them that they're terrible people and all of that. I mean, there are other sins in the Bible too...I don't believe homosexuality is God's best for a person's life."

I'll never understand why Rethuglican, conservative, right-wing, religious fanatics think they can force other normal people to accept their deviant views and lifestyle. They love to tell other people how to live their lives, while their own lives are in shambles. The Christian (esp. Catholic, Mormon, Evangelical, and Southern Baptist) Taliban in this country are going to face a violent wake up call soon if they keep trying to spread their hatred, intolerant views and actions on normal Americans.

I'm not a fan of Joel Osteen....but what he did tonight was not gay bashing. He believes the Word of God. Like I do and millions of people around the world. Why bash the guy for what he believes is true. Don't forget that he was asked these questions, he didn't just out of the blue say "being gay is a sin!!" He was asked a question and he answered it truthfully. Respect his opionion.

what is a sin is the mans lifestype, a true man of god doesn't live this lifestyle and as most should know by know when you see wealth of this kind you know its fake, see cause I have god in me, and I know this to be true, I know that my god would not want me to live like that and use his name in vein, and If I was to peach all the moneys I would get would 100 percent to to where it is needed, and not to my life, not for my fun or my being happy, money means nothing unless its going to help where it needs to go, so ehis mans wealth is a waste in gods eyes. He knows what he is and his wife does to, when you see where they go how they live and what they spend on self then you see what is real. They are fakes, and God knows this. Sad part is they are taking advantage of all the poor souls who don't realize they can find god within, and not in the pocketbook

A Christian (in fact not just in label) sticks to what the Word of God say. We are all sinners (Romans 3:23). Not always easy to admit but this is what the Bible says, if you choose to read and believe it.

Can we be forgiven? Yes,if we confess, repent and turn back to God. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

What a Good God He is!

I think the comments that Joel make are on point and to attack the pastor for what he believes is stupid in my opinion. The very thing that makes you angry you should question why it makes you upset that being GAY is not a chosen way to live. It is obvious that GAY people are not by design how God intended us to be. Again no need to get upset about the truth the question is some don't want to really hear and understand the truth. I will say no more because it is no need to debate or discuss a law of universe. Almost like saying what goes up may or maynot come down.... come on let's get real.

....and I disagree that he did not judge them! He is looking to save them! Gays don't need to be saved, if you look at population control, they are actually quite good for the planet. Good lord, let's convert all the gays to straights...what's next? Let's change the world to make it fit into his pea brained vision.....

I think the interviewer is a supporter of gays. I don't like how he put Joel Osteen in the spot 😡
Osteen is a good guy. He acts good, he does good, I don't think he's a discriminator or a hypocrites like the ones you see on TV.

Why do these zealots give a rat's ass about gays? I happen to think religion is wrong. Wars are not created in the name of gays but there are certainly wars waged over religious views. Get a life you country bumpkins. It is 2011 and everyone knows the bible is just a story.

Did anyone even watch the video? Osteen didn't bash gay people at all and refuses to judge them. Wow, CNN really needs to look into removing this comments section. The ignorance here is almost unbelievable.

When Earth is shaken with her (final) earthquake (1) And Earth yieldeth up her burdens, (2) And man saith: What aileth her? (3) That day she will relate her chronicles, (4) Because thy Lord inspireth her. (5) That day mankind will issue forth in scattered groups to be shown their deeds. We are all sinners according to the Bible. I think Joel is going to take a lot of heat for this statement. I don't they he should. He is just stating his opinion. I do not think he is a hateful person. I hate that we are no longer allow to have our own opinions in this country without being attacked. At least, he is open to talking and learning. So many people are ignorant and what to stay that way which I guess is their right. I don't know the right answers either. it is a complicated issue. I don't care. I think gay people should be able to get married because like I said earlier we are all sinners.

No, we are not all sinners! Your book of magical manmade tribal myths does not apply to me, no matter how many times you and your believer buddies say it does!! I am not ignorant – I have studied the situation and come to the very logical conclusion that god does not exist, that all religion is made up crap! My conclusion is every bit as valid as yours, so kindly stop using such wide ranging statements.

No, the bible is an ancient book filled with many supersti tious taboos that were born out of conditions that no longer exist, or just plain ignorance. Many of the biblical sanctions have outlived whatever usefulness they once had. Times have changed, and we have the means to know better now. Pity so few actually chose to.

Food for the gray matter ... Atheist ignorantly says that the Bible is copied from Pagan myths

    A Non-believer states:

Most Biblical scholars agree that much of the Hebrew Old Testament was based on the legends of ancient Sumeria. In this article, the story of humankind's creation is explored in the parallels between the Sumerian legends of the garden, Dilmum, and the Hebrew garden of Eden.

The Hebrew account of the Garden of Eden is well known to most people however facts point to the core of that popular Hebrew story as having been lifted straight from Sumerian legend. And the story may well have roots dating back long before the Sumerian civilization.

A goddess of Sumeria, Ninhursag, also known as "exalted lady" is given the credit for bringing the green plants to the earth and for creating humans. This ancient "Mother Nature" brought to life a place called Dilmun, reputed as the true Paradise of the Gods. Many scholars, Zecharia Sitchin among them, believe that this Dilmum -if not the original garden- was at least the basis from which the Hebrews scholars borrowed in forming their scriptural stories of Eden....

(Non-believer is a fine example of "a little knowledge is dangerous." And also the folly of those whom have no faith.)

    Uh, excuse me, Non-believer:

Do you really believe the error- laced article you wrote, or are you just a predatory atheist trying to mislead a weak among-the-flock Christian? No true Christian would pay attention to the filth you just posted about our Lord’s written Word. Perhaps you posted it here in error, go find an atheist forum to post it on, atheists will believe anything BUT the truth. You wrote: “Most Biblical scholars agree that much of the Hebrew Old Testament was based on the legends of ancient Sumeria.”

Now Non-believer, come-on, don’t be absurd, “Most Biblical scholars” deny that the Bible is the Holy Spirit inspired Word of Almighty God? That is what you are in essence saying with your false statement above. Non-believer, don’t be foolish!

You also ignorantly wrote: “In this article, the story of humankind's creation is explored in the parallels between the Sumerian legends of the garden, Dilmum, and the Hebrew garden of Eden. ”

Yes, Non-believer, the myths and false regions do closely parallel God’s Word, but they corrupt God’s truth and the true Garden of Eden events. Why, Un-believer? Because the Sumerian legends were taken to Sumeria by Cain after his expulsion. Cain corrupted God’s Word, commands and histories. The pagan religions that you speak of even have ‘dieties’ that are perversions of Adam and Eve. For instance, Anu, Ea and Murdoch are ancient Babylonian ‘dieties,’ but they are simply the corrupted form of Adam (Anu), Eve (Ea), and satan (Murdoch). Cain started the corrupt religions in rebellion to God.

Non-believer, all major corrupt religions have a “Garden of God” with a man and woman, a struggle between two sons, and a “Great Flood” wherein a man and his family were saved. This is a testament to the reality of God’s Word, for while all the corrupt religions have these stories, they all contradict each other. They were all taken, and corrupted, for the true event that is contained in God’s Word.

In other words, Non-believer, the corrupted religions copied the truth from Eden and perverted it, NOT Eden copying the pagan myths and placing them in the Bible. It’s kind of like which came first, the chicken or the egg? Well, the chicken came first, of course, for God created them with their ability to reproduce. Likewise, the truth came first, then foul spirited men like you perverted it.

Sumeria is in Mesopotamia (the land between the rivers), it is just north of the dead city “Erech” which is thought to be the Biblical city of Enoch that Cain builded (approx 3800 b.c.) and named after his son Enoch (Gen 4:17). Cain went there (Nod), found a wife and set-up a corrupted religion against Jehovah that not only denied Jehovah, but made gods out of His creation (Adam & Eve) and even deified (made a god out of) satan! Not, some 6,000 years later, you come to a Christian Website and perpetuate Cain’s lies against God.

Satan always corrupts truth (John 8:44). Even the ancient Greek mythical heroes were perversions of Biblical personalities, i.e., the Greek Hercules is the Biblical Samson corrupted.....

Educate yourself, son, then write. (In that order)

God bless, in Jesus Christ’ name!

"The Greek Hercules is the Biblical Samson corrupted"

You've got some proof for this, I take it?

"all major corrupt religions have a “Garden of God” with a man and woman, a struggle between two sons, and a “Great Flood” wherein a man and his family were saved"

Where is God's garden in Buddhism? Where is God's garden in Hinduism? Or in Sikhism? Or Jainism? Or Taoism? Where is God's garden in the religions of Africa and the Americas?

"the Sumerian legends were taken to Sumeria by Cain after his expulsion"

You're using the Bible as proof of the truth of the Bible. That won't fly. You must first establish that Cain existed, and you must show that he, personally, carried the stories you believe are false. Otherwise your argument falls apart.

That is an amazing accomplishment in revisionism and doublethink. Written doc.uments show parallels to the genesis story in earlier cultures and you manage to convince yourself that "the Sumerian legends were taken to Sumeria by Cain after his expulsion." Truly amazing.

"Satan always corrupts truth (John 8:44)"

Have you ever considered that your 'truth' may be the corruption, or does your pride prevent you from even considering that you may be wrong?

I don't believe this man, or any other man for that matter, has the right to make judgments about others or tell anyone what they should or should not do in their private lives. The bible is just a way to make people either fear, or feel better about their tough lot in life.
