New imam quits embattled Islamic community center

By Allan Chernoff, CNN

A Park51 imam announced his resignation Friday, just three weeks after being appointed to his post at the embattled Islamic community center in New York, according to a written statement Friday.

"I wish the project leaders well," said Imam Adhami, saying he needed more time to complete a book meant to assist English readers in understanding the Quran.

His resignation comes on the heels of a controversial post on his website, sakeenah.org, in which he claimed that "an enormously overwhelming percentage of people struggle with homosexual feeling because of some form of violent emotional or sexual abuse at some point in their life."

Park51 officials later attempted to distance the community center from Adhami's comments, tweeting that "Adhami's personal statements do not reflect the position of p51."

The community center - located two blocks from the ground zero location in Manhattan - describes itself as an inclusive community center open to anyone, with the goal of integrating Muslim-Americans into U.S. society.

"We have been humbled by Imam Adhami's contributions to this project over the past few months," said Park51 President Sharif El-Gamal. "We look forward to him, God willing, leading prayers informally for Park51 in the near future."

His departure is the latest in a string of setbacks after former Imam, Feisal Abdul Rauf, was given a reduced role in the center.

Rauf remains on the board of the community center.

This is one site worthy of book-marking imho. The content and quality is really good and I like the way it is presented. It's great to come across a site where there is both something to read and something to think about. Thumbs up.

    Al-Anaam sura 06:
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Say: Come, I will recite unto you that which your Lord hath forbidden to you: that ye ascribe no thing as partner unto Him and that ye do good to parents, and that ye slay not your children because of penury – We provide for you and for them – and that ye draw not nigh to lewd things whether open or concealed. And that ye slay not the life which Allah hath made sacred, save in the course of justice. This He hath command you, in order that ye may discern. (151) And approach not the wealth of the orphan save with that which is better, till he reach maturity. Give full measure and full weight, in justice. We task not any soul beyond its scope. And if ye give your word, do justice thereunto, even though it be (against) a kinsman; and fulfil the covenant of Allah. This He commandeth you that haply ye may remember. (152) And (He commandeth you, saying): This is My straight path, so follow it. Follow not other ways, lest ye be parted from His way. This hath He ordained for you, that ye may ward off (evil). (153).

    Al-Anaam sura 06:
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Lo! As for those who sunder their religion and become schismatics, no concern at all hast thou with them. Their case will go to Allah, Who then will tell them what they used to do. (159) Whoso bringeth a good deed will receive tenfold the like thereof, while whoso bringeth an ill-deed will be awarded but the like thereof; and they will not be wronged. (160) Say: Lo! As for me, my Lord hath guided me unto a straight path, a right religion, the community of Abraham, the upright, who was no idolater. (161) Say: Lo! my worship and my sacrifice and my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the Worlds. (162) He hath no partner. This am I commanded, and I am first of those who surrender (unto Him). (163) Say: Shall I seek another than Allah for Lord, when He is Lord of all things? Each soul earneth only on its own account, nor doth any laden bear another's load. Then unto your Lord is your return and He will tell you that wherein ye differed. (164) He it is Who hath placed you as viceroys of the earth and hath exalted some of you in rank above others, that He may try you by (the test of) that which He hath given you. Lo! Thy Lord is swift in prosecution, and Lo! He verily is Forgiving, Merciful. (165).

The last thing America wants is more hatred.
    We know hatred brings terrorists.

The last thing we want is more lost lives and resources protecting Sunnis and Shiites from each other.

We wish you could share your land together and accept differences

The last thing we want is more lives lost at markets, at job recruiting outposts, at schools for girls.

Did Americans start the hatred between Muslims, no. Why can't you just live your lives and accept differences, if there is an Allah won't he deal with it at judgment?

Many Muslims act like they would rather hate then accept differences. They would rather kill me for saying, "muhammad was just another human with illusions of grandeur", then be confident in their religion. If there is an Allah won't he deal with me, why does he need you to kill me? I will die and face judgement no matter what right!

Stop hating girls, stop hating each other, stop hating us!

Why you talk as if already Islam and Muslims are holding you from your throat? You know who does that most pretending to be the weakest or the most abused? Such move was always the weapon used by the Jews and by it they were able to blackmail each individuals, groups or countries....against each other....

For all the people that are saying Islam teaches violence, murder and Prophet Muhammed wasa biggot and things of that nature. Where is your proof? The media? The actions of a few people who choose to kill and try to justify it thru religion, like so many other people of religion has done? If this is the case than that s what we call ignorance. Forget about the crusaders, what about the priest melosting young boys, should we now say all catholics are molesters? I dont think so. A person weakness or lack of understanding is the root cause. The problem with people now a days is that they depend on other people (priest scholars media mother and fathers) to give you the understanding or way of thinking. Pretty much like programing a robot. We as a people, have to be open minded and try to understand what is the true philosophy of people. Most of the post i read on here are very generic with people saying "islam are our enemies, Islam teaches this teaches that. But you show no proof of this. Because if this is true i think more Muslims would be in jail for beating there wife but we see so called christians or people who do not represent any religion in jail or being arrested for beating there wife. Let me ask yo uthis, why does the middle east have the lowest divorce rate in all the world, if they beat there wives? Why do you see more family loyalty from people over seas in the middle east vs anywhere else in the world, asia for that matter as well, which has a lot of muslims (China malaysia which has the biggest % of muslims in malaysia). So, like a few people already asked, because of a minority of muslim people trying justifying terriosm, ALL OF ISLAM IS BAD?! I believe we call that ignorance or lack of knowledge. You try and bash Prophet Muhammed, but you dont even know what he went thru. He was being stoned and oppressed by his people and what did he do? Walked away, or as Jesus would say "Turn the other cheek". He than left Mekka and traveled to Madinah, which was controlled by Christians at the time, and seeked refuge there. If Islam tought violence, why would Muhammed get his pack together and kill everyone who was oppressing him and his people? Why would he ASK the Christians for shelter instead of demanding and if they did say say yes kill them? why did that not happen? If Islam is such a violent religion, i believe that would be the case. Has the Muslims ever went to war against some Jews and some Christians? Yes.. Why? Because muslims were being oppressed or a treaty was broken by an attack of some sort, and once an Islamic state was established, they could talk as 1 and decide if they broke the treaty how should they handle it? and yes sometimes War was the only choice because whoever (the jews at that time) were going to come after them and take control and try and wipe out Muhammed and his people. Would yo not fight back if that was the case? I dont think people will fully understand this post, but i felt a need to say something. Like someone said earlier "READ!!!!" THE FIRST WORD REVEALED IN THE QURAN.. Read in thy name of the Lord! It is he who gives knowledge is you wish to seek it.

Well said Mic adding that Islam once or twice has  the refuge of Christianity of the Ahbash from the pagans of Mecca... Only then the christianity could have wiped Islam out but by their king listening to their defense had believed on them and stood beside the Muslims against the pagans of Mecca and made them leave with out handing over to them the Muslim immigrants who had taken refuge at his country as a believer.

Thank God that Jesus taught us to love our enemies because Muslims, especially extremist are definitely that. I feel pity that people follow such a violent and anti female idiot. Mohammed was nothing more than a violent biggot.

Don't get me started on what happens to girls and woman in the middle east.

    For the particular dummy.

    Al-Alaq sura 96:
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, (1) Createth man from a clot. (2) Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, (3) Who teacheth by the pen, (4) Teacheth man that which he knew not. (5) Nay, but verily man is rebellious (6) That he thinketh himself independent! (7) Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. (8) Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth (9) A slave when he prayeth? (10) Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) (11) Or enjoineth piety? (12) Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? (13) Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? (14) Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock – (15) The lying, sinful forelock – (16) Then let him call upon his henchmen! (17) We will call the guards of hell. (18) Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). (19).

      Al-Lail sura 92:
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night enshrouding (1) And the day resplendent (2) And Him Who hath created male and female, (3) Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). (4) As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) (5) And believeth in goodness; (6) Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. (7) But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, (8) And disbelieveth in goodness; (9) Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. (10) His riches will not save him when he perisheth. (11) Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance (12) And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. (13) Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire (14) Which only the most wretched must endure, (15) He who denieth and turneth away. (16) Far removed from it will be the righteous (17) Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). (18) And none hath with him any favour for reward, (19) Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. (20) He verily will be content. (21).
