    So many people created and denying the existance of their creator. Who keeps your heart beating for a lifetime? Are you so self sustaining that you yourself can stop your own heart ( as well as your breathing ) and 30 minutes later start it again? It's in HIM that we live and move and and breathe and have our very being. If you do not seek Him, you will not find Him.

      @ my6cents:

      It's within the defibrillator that the hearts of men and women are able to be restarted. Let's not start confusing theology with cardiac science.

    I am sorry you are confused.

      CatholicMom,

      Actually, it is you who are confused. To clarify your mind in less than two seconds:

      From that famous passage: In 1 Corinthians 15 St. Paul reasoned, "If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith."

      "Heaven is a Spirit state" as per JPII and Aquinas i.e. there can be no bodies. i.e. there was and never will be any physical resurrection/ascension of human bodies."

      And is it not ironical that JPII along with Aquinas are the ones who put meaning to the words "If Christ has not been raised, your faith is useless."

    A man was swallowed by a large fish and after three day was spit out and survived.
    If you believe that story, then a virgin birth is easy.

      @catholicmom
      nope, anything is possible in your mind. Then you wake up and have to face reality. There is no god, no heaven and no hell. No karma, no reincarnation and no salvation. Inside the church is delusion and what you see outside is the truth. We are biological creatures and we shall all perish as have billions of humans before us on this beautiful blue planet.

    Po-rn used to be a luc-rative business. With the Internet, most po-rn is free i.e. said business no longer exists. So add at least one positive to the situation.

    Said free and legal po-rn should also be helpful for the "handjivers" thereby adding a significant plus for birth control and a reduction in the abortion and STD rates currently at a continuing epidemic stage i.e. another plus.

    On the agenda of the Religious Right, is making p_ornography illegal. It is one of their Christian Theocracy desires.

    Notice how they try to marry adult p_ornography to child p_ornography. No studies support this. Yet, they bring it up almost immediately when they are arguing their case.

    There are very strict laws forbidding child p_ornography. They need to be enforced. No one sane, wants this to exist.

    There are laws against anyone under 18, viewing p_ornography. This needs to be enforced better.

    P_ornography is protected by the 1st Amendment. This amendment also prevents the establishment of a Christian Theocracy.

    The Christian Right does not like the 1st Amendment. They want to be the ones who hear the voice of Jesus and tell the rest of us his will.

    The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Const_itution is part of the Bill of Rights. The amendment prohibits the making of any law "respecting an establishment of religion", impeding the free exercise of religion, infringing on the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the pet_itioning for a governmental redress of grievances.

    God bless the 1st Amendment! God save us from the Christian Right!

    Cheers!

      David Johnson,

      If no one sane wants child p0rnography to exist, why do we have to have strict laws forbidding it, as you say? Are there that many insane people who look at children that way? Is it a sickness that has had a hard time drawing lines between adult p0rn and child p0rn? Why does it seem that when the secret is out and someone is convicted of child p0rn they also had an
      appet!te for adult p0rn? You have seen how that works when they expose the criminals on tv on the news.

      February 7, 2011 at 9:16 am |
    • David Johnson

      @CatholicMom

      You said: "If no one sane wants child p0rnography to exist, why do we have to have strict laws forbidding it, as you say?"

      Because there are people, who are not sane, who exploit children. Consider that child p_orn laws are very strict. But it persists. Making adult p_orn illegal will not make child p_orn disappear.

      This is like abortion. Making abortion illegal will not make abortion go away. It will only make it go "underground".
      It would only make poor women go to filthy back alley butchers.
      We need more resources for women, so they can choose not to have an abortion. Obama has began this. But more needs to be done. With the House being dominated by Republicans, who would rather have guns than butter, this is unlikely.

      I don't think the fact people caught with child p_orn also have adult p_orn means anything.

      You would need to show that all people who have adult p_orn, also have child p_orn. You won't be able to show this.

      Cheers!

    • CatholicMom

      David Johnson,

      Yes, I agree, those insane persons are ‘out there’ but, really, how many do you think there are? Is our country over run by child p0rn users or is this in the news because of p0rn of all types? It is wrecking so many lives…it doesn’t matter if it is child or adult p0rn, it is all evil if it can do that to a person and those around him/her who have to suffer along with the addicted person.

      I agree, we need to not choose abortion.

      What are you talking about ‘guns or butter’? I know how to make do without butter, but don’t take my .22.

      February 7, 2011 at 2:31 pm |
    • David Johnson

      @CatholicMom

      The phrase guns or butter is a symbol for the economic policy of a government insofar as spending is allocated for either military or social purposes i.e. ent_itlements and Health Care etc.

      I wish the Catholic Church would join the butter side of the debate. It is what Jesus would do.

      The phrase has nothing to do with gun control.

      I personally do not care about p_onography. If you have seen one n_aked person, you have pretty well seen them all. I get bored really easily. It is not a question of it being "sin" or not.

      Alcohol is probably responsible for far more "sin" than p_orn. The prohibition of it did not work. People found Alcohol anyway. Prohibition fueled organized crime.

      You cannot legislate morality.

      Adult p_orn should not be illegal. Abortion should not be illegal.

      Cheers!

      @ David Johnson

      How about prosti-tution? Or just name your favorite 'victimless crime.' We've always "legislated morality" to varying degrees, Dave. Regarding your first post in this string – your allegations are empty. Child p-rn is very actively prosecuted, but exactly -how- would you suggest that viewing by under-18's be "enforced" differently than it is now? Just curious...

      Gotta tell you, your posts are beginning to have the 'cut-n-paste' quality of some of Reality's earlier works.... Best be careful lest you beginning smelling like eau d'troll, but my guess is that you're actually just a grumpy, self-righteous 60-year old curmudgeon who's afraid of the dark.

      -bump- in the night, Dave. Boo!

      @Let Us Prey

      Yes, there always have been blue laws. Prost_itution should be legal. Does making it illegal stop it? No, it just makes pimps possible.

      You can't legislate morality. You can make a law, but the law doesn't stop the activity.

      If I do cut and paste, it is to reinforce or validate my argument(s).

      Tell me, why didn't god make humans only choose to do things that are pleasing to Him?

      You might think about how the RCC has made you into a "robot", one that is afraid to examine what is outside your bible box frame currently connected to a mumbo jumbo power source i.e. the mythical resurrection and ascension.

      Reality,
      Check out the New Catholic Encyclopedia If you don’t like the original Catholic Encyclopedia’s format; you can use the New Catholic Encyclopedia with supplements following the original encyclopedia in 1922 and 1958, and fully produced in its entirety in 1967 with supplemental volumes appearing in 1974, 1979, 1989, and 1996.
      ….and it is free!

      And CatholicMom I just checked, the New Catholic Encyclopedia is still copyrighted and is not free and not on-line. The "Adam" entry in the old Encyclopedia makes for hilarious reading in the 21st century. Might want to check your new version to see how it explains away "Adam".

      CatholicMom,

      I suspect that there are some accurate, doc.umented historical facts in the Catholic Enclycopedia. It is the magical, mystical, supernatural fantasies which are suspect (to put it mildly). Or have they captured a couple of spirit creatures which are available for testing and verification in the newer editions?

      This is an excellent point. Wars, Hate, Prejudices, and limitless problems come from people deciding which magic (religion) is correct.
