Estranged son of anti-gay Westboro pastor says father does 'evil'(CNN) - An estranged son of anti-gay Kansas pastor Fred Phelps said Wednesday that the spiritual leader of Westboro Baptist Church hit his wife and beat his children with a mattock handle until they bled. "I think what he does out there is evil," said Nathan "Nate" Phelps, during an appearance on HLN's "Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell." Nate Phelps is the seventh of the Westboro Baptist minister's 13 children. The younger Phelps severed ties with his family on his 18th birthday and said he hasn't had contact with his father in three decades. Nate Phelps is currently writing a book about his family. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled earlier this month that Westboro's practice of picketing the funerals of fallen soldiers with offensive placards is constitutionally protected free speech. The picketing, which includes chants and placards stating "God Hates Fags" and "Thank God for Dead Soldiers," have enraged supporters of the U.S. military and the families and friends of slain soldiers. Nate Phelps called his pastor father "one of the best reasons that America has been forced to get off the fence and address this issue (of gay rights)." Come on, we all know (and it's blatantly obvious) that Fred Phelps is blatantly g-ay himself, and he only protests these things because he has not come to terms with is own issues.
What a sicko! The children should be removed from that family before irreparable harm is done to their development. Surely they face rdicule and abuse at school. Evidently our supreme court didn't take that into consideration when they unleashed permission to demonstrate in this manner causing great pain to the servicement and women who gave their lives to defend idiots like this to spew their hatred at the funerals. I"m not a violent man, but have some doubts about my being able to control my rage if I were to confront any of these misguided fanatics!!!!!
All of the anti-gay references in the Bible were written by Paul, or in the Old Testament, which Jesus' death supposedly made null and void. Jesus never said anything about gays, other than that even lusting after someone else is the same as adultery.
On the other hand, Jesus also said "judge not, lest ye be judged." I think Christians should stop making such a big deal about this. IT'S NOT THEIR CALL.
As for the leader of the Westboro Baptist Church, I'm disgusted but not surprised at his behavior. At best he is a hypcrite, at worst he is a criminal and a false prophet, and anyone who follows him will NOT go to heaven.
This petty, narcissistic, irrelevant subject matter brings no one closer to accepting the fact that we are specks of dust in a vast universe containing matter that no machine can identify.
Has any one religious ever considered that maybe you should truly love your neighbor even if he/she is gay? Live to not judge others even if they are or are not gay? Oh, and be truly charitable because it simply is the right thing to do and not because there is a reward for you?

Good post though, there are many animals that engage in ho-mose-xual behaviour and i'm sure God has no problem with that at all since he created them. Unfortunately there are also ppl like Phelps and @CW that engage in hateful behaviour, such is life.

He's got it in his head that I'm a "champion of gay rights" and I think that he's a hom.ophobic bigot. Neither of us is going to change.
I just feel obliged to counter easily disproven fallacies like the one he posited above in the hopes that others will go check the facts for themselves.

I say: Show me in the Bible where it addresses animals and their behavior. Second The Bible is clear on this behavior its wrong...for humans....by the way...animals can reproduce with this so called guessed at behavior as well. There are six....one two...six verses that say that this behavior is wrong found in both the old testament and the new testament. My point is this....God created all of us...SINNERS....but he also commands us ALL to turn from sin and "SIN NO MORE". As I recall per the Bible...see Romans 1 or 1 Corinthains 6:9...that ho-'mo-'s-'e-'xual behavior is wrong...for one....and two....people who engage in this behavior and don't change and live for God will face Judgement Day.

You can come up with some guessed at research b/c its all based on the same thing....one researcher's pe-'rceived no-'tion of what is going on....NOT facts...ONLY a guess as one in their own mind. Shirley Phelps tells teenagers on twitter that she would laugh at them at their funeral, and says she knows about Justin Bieber's "Hairless butt and no pubic hair" definitely not someone that I would rely on for any type of intellectual thinking, let alone any sort of religious leadership.
I actually heard an interview quote in which she claimed that it is their god-given mission to create hatred and division in order to prevent people from achieving salvation. So yes, the reason they say such hateful things is because they want you to hate them (and by extension hate their god).

Those individuals in Exodus International..a disgusting organization that has done horrible things to children (look it up online)..that pressures individuals into believing that how they are born is a problem. I say: When you let God come into your life and CHANGE YOU then in essence you are CHOOSING to follow God's will and way and not your own. These people are in essence getting their life in order to match the beliefs and morals of the Bible.

Bison do it on the American plains.
The Bonobo ape is a fully bi-se.xual species, especially known for female on female action.
The Merck Manual of Vetrinary Medicine states that such activity amongst sheep is perfectly normal.
Lions, skunks, hyenas, lizards, giraffes, elephants, pigeons, swans....

Well, I don't need to be Dr. Dolittle to realize that if the other 80% of the ducks had a problem with the 20%, they would become aggressive and combative with them. Given that they don't react negatively in any way, I'd say that they don't care.
Unlike you, they realize that the behaviour isn't harmful in any way and don't try to stop it.

Well, there's a surprise. Who would have guessed that Fred Phelps was a bad man?
Grateful Dead sing "Aing no time to hate." and Bob Dylan sings "don't hate nothing at all except hatred," but still I am of the mind that a dedicated group of people with free time should take to protesting outside their Westboro church and wherever they might protest with huge signs that say "GOD HATES FRED PHELPS" and "WE'LL THANK GOD WHEN FRED PHELPS IS DEAD."
