Super Bowl hero warns of 'anarchy' if NY approves gay marriageBy Jason Kessler, CNN (CNN) - Former New York Giants receiver David Tyree's celebrated catch in the closing seconds of Super Bowl XLII was pivotal to his team's victory. Now out of football, he is trying to claim a last-minute win over another foe - same-sex marriage. On the same day that the New York State Assembly approved a same-sex marriage bill, Tyree warned of dire consequences if the legislation becomes law. The bill's passage would "be the beginning of our country sliding toward ... anarchy," he said Tyree made the comments in a video released Wednesday by the National Organization for Marriage, which is spearheading opposition to the bill. The legislation must now clear the Republican-controlled State Senate where its fate is uncertain. His disapproval of gay marriage is based on religious as well as secular grounds, Tyree said. "Marriage is the only relationship that actually mirrors the relationship with God," he said. |

Being an athlete gives him better access to headlines and NOM will use this for all it is worth. All they care about is fundraising and putting others down to give themselves a sense of power that they apparently do not get from their own self-worth and/or spirituality. I hope this man does not have any gay relatives whom he is betraying with his grandstanding. Or that he plays against any gay cornerbacks or safeties.
I don't believe this man knows what anarchy is... Although Jesus has been dead for a very, very long time, the fact that his supposed teachings were tolerance and love, I really don't think he would have a problem with g.ay marriage. I know he's not coming back, but if he is, I am more than prepared... Read Max Brooks "The Zombie Survival Guide" front to back several times. ;p
Thank you Mr. Tyree for saying what many conservatives do not have the guts to say publicly. Thanks for standing up to the "Gay marriage" lobby and against the intimidation of the Gay rights thugs.
Jesus is coming soon back to earth and his kingdom will be established here for 1000 years of peace. The devil and all of his unrepentent cohorts, including those proponents of "Gay marriage" will be cast into the darkness where there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Will the gnashing be really gnashy? These roving bands of ga-y rights thugs should gnash and wail, and lots of other silly-sounding bad thing for all of the thuggish things they do, stuff like, uh, wait a minute, I know there is something, uh, they vote! Yeah, and they use the political process peacefully! What thugs! And they want all people to be treated with the equal protection outlined in the Consti-tution!
Thugs! Be ready for some very gnashy wailing at God's Big Hoedown Soul Barbeque, where millions of decent, charitable, generous people will be flung into the coals while millions of nasty jerks will go to the Big Eternal Jesus Line Dance because they done picked right in the Great Which-God-Is-The-True-God Lotto.
Ya ya ya Harold,
I thought you were in the hospital with a stroke. What ? you couldn't cash out your PTO bank before ? Don't you own dat station ? The world is not going to end soon. You know how many tousands of yers we've been tellin the poor bas-tards that ? If you want a week off, just go home. No one will miss ya.
Wait up there, genius. Being very generous, say there is a 50/50 chance you are right. What are you going to say to yourself when it doesn't happen ?
gayperverts: blah, blah, blah. more empty proxy threats. your god is as impotent as your warnings.
"Jesus is coming soon back to earth" don't hold your breath, people have been saying that for >2,000 years. I think humans need to work somethings out in the mean time, the end of suffering is our goal... not appeasing a sky fairy.
I just started posting on CNN, does anyone know if a thread of useless insults and egotistical comments like these comes down to abuse on this blog? Bandwidth is finite.
It is so easy for those who don't believe to make fools of someone,,,, or another. Should the world see it and judge all of us?
Wow... a true hero speaks. White people should stop oppressing the colored people.
@Zelda: Did you just say "colored people"?
What's this sports and anarchy theme today? First its the police saying 'anarchists' were responsible for the rioting in Vancouver and now another figure from sports is predicting anarchy. Strange...
I hope that David Tyree would eventually reconsider his prejudicial position.
Why in the hell would I care what some jock says about gay marriage and anarchy... reaching for stories....
If anarchy comes forth because of legalization of gay marriage, it will come forth from those who oppose it.
Awesome statement, anarchy is always relative
my father in heaven shall come soon, and when he does he will smite d devil
@crucifixio.
My condolences on the loss of your dad.
If he's in "heaven", I don't think he'll be coming back. Sorry.
you were hatched from a chicken egg
Touche LinCA! LOL!
If there was a hell, this piece of trash would go there....probably brought up in the vile 'southern baptist' tradition of hate and ignorance.
@The LORD. Please don't send him to hell. I really don't want his company.
Anarchy? ANARCHY??? Recognizing a fundamental right via a deliberative, legislative process will automatically spit out anarchy? Is this a threat? If not, it is too ludicrous for words.
o All "Abrahamics" believe that their god created all of us and of course that includes the g-ay members of the human race. Also, those who have studied ho-mo-se-xuality have determined that there is no choice involved therefore ga-ys are ga-y because Abraham's god made them that way.
To wit:
o The Royal College of Psy-chiatrists stated in 2007:
“ Despite almost a century of psy-choanalytic and psy-chological speculation, there is no substantive evidence to support the suggestion that the nature of parenting or early childhood experiences play any role in the formation of a person’s fundamental heteros-exual or hom-ose-xual orientation. It would appear that s-exual orientation is biological in nature, determined by a complex interplay of ge-netic factors and the early ut-erine environment. Se-xual orientation is therefore not a choice.[60] "
"Garcia-Falgueras and Swaab state in the abstract of their 2010 study, "The fe-tal brain develops during the intraut-erine period in the male direction through a direct action of tes-tosterone on the developing nerve cells, or in the female direction through the absence of this hor-mone surge. In this way, our gender identi-ty (the conviction of belonging to the male or female gender) and s-exual orientation are programmed or organized into our brain structures when we are still in the womb. There is no indication that social environment after birth has an effect on gender ident–ity or s-exual orientation."[8
Of course, those gays who belong to Abrahamic religions abide by the rules of no adu-ltery or for-nication allowed.
And because of basic biology differences and Abrahamic and other traditions said monogamous ventures should always be called same-se-x unions not same-se-x marriages.
So you are saying that they should be called "unions" and not "marriages"? But marriages are unions of two people.
Here's a neuron cleanser for you:
--
mar·riage /ˈmærɪdʒ/ –noun
1.-a. the social insti.tution under which a man and woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments, religious ceremonies, etc.
...-b. a similar inst.itution involving partners of the same gender: gay marriage.
2. the state, condition, or relationship of being married; wedlock: a happy marriage.
3. the legal or religious ceremony that formalizes the decision of two people to live as a married couple, including the accompanying social festivities: to officiate at a marriage.
4. a relationship in which two people have pledged themselves to each other in the manner of a husband and wife, without legal sanction: trial marriage.
5. any close or intimate association or union: the marriage of words and music in a hit song.
6. a formal agreement between two companies or enterprises to combine operations, resources, etc., for mutual benefit; merger.
7. a blending or matching of different elements or components: The new lipstick is a beautiful marriage of fragrance and texture.
8. Cards . a meld of the king and queen of a suit, as in pinochle. Compare royal marriage.
9. a piece of antique furniture assembled from components of two or more authentic pieces.
10. Obsolete . the formal declaration or contract by which act a man and a woman join in wedlock.
--
Insisting that we go by obsolete definitions of a word commonly used in a more general way...
.. is ridiculous. Why bother? Gay marriage is not straight marriage and it is not bi-s-exual marriage. It can even incorporate more than one partner. It is just a word that denotes the union, not what type of union.
More needling available on request. 😀
Fiddy,
Roget's Thesaurus:
marriage
noun
1.The state of being united as husband and wife: conjugality, connubiality, matrimony, wedlock. See marriage/unmarried.
2.The act or ceremony by which two people become husband and wife: bridal, espousal, nuptial (often used in plural), spousal (often used in plural), wedding.
So in a g-ay "marriage" who is the husband and who is the wife? Coin flip? 🙂

A thesaurus is not a dictionary. A thesaurus is a listing of synonyms, antonyms, and other related words. They are not the word itself.
If we are allowed to use all available synonyms, antonyms, and other related words for a definition, then a marriage IS a union, a bed and board, and cohabitation without any reference to the se-xual dimorphism of the people involved.
Use the dictionary, Reality. It actually defines the word.
You are arguing the definitive use of the word, so therefore you should use the dictionary to support your argument.
But the dictionary DOESN'T support your argument, does it?
Your argument is not in accord with reality, Reality. Get in tune with the universe and cleanse those error-filled neurons!
Details available in any modern dictionary. The same sort of dictionary that the Supreme Court will turn to when they need to know the meaning of a word.
Free your mind of the stench and muck of misunderstood words!
Nothing you say can change the reality of the situation. The facts are the facts. You like quoting your own selection of stuff, but you don't like anything that nullifies what you thought was okay.
Sounds like you need some neuron cleansing. The only step is to realize what is true and what is not.
In the case of words, their definitions are defined already. To cavil over a word like "marriage" only makes you look like a bigot who hasn't joined the modern world of science and facts and reality.
If you insist on denying reality, then you should change your name. You wouldn't deserve it otherwise.
"Britannica Concise Encyclopedia:
marriage
Legally and socially sanctioned union, usually between a man and a woman, that is regulated by laws, rules, customs, beliefs, and att-itudes that prescribe the rights and duties of the partners and accords status to their offspring (if any). The universality of marriage is attributed to the many basic social and personal functions it performs, such as procreation, regulation of se-xual behaviour, care of children and their education and socialization, regulation of lines of descent, division of labour between the se-xes, economic production and consumption, and satisfaction of personal needs for social status, affection, and companionship. Until modern times marriage was rarely a matter of free choice, and it was rarely motivated by romantic love. In most eras and most societies, permissible marriage partners have been carefully regulated. In societies in which the extended family remains the basic unit, marriages are usually arranged by the family. The assumption is that love between the partners comes after marriage, and much thought is given to the socioeconomic advantages accruing to the larger family from the match. Some form of dowry or bridewealth is almost universal in societies that use arranged marriages. The rituals and ceremonies surrounding marriage are associated primarily with religion and fertility and validate the importance of marriage for the continuation of a family, clan, tribe, or society. In recent years the definition of marriage as a union between members of opposite se-xes has been challenged, and in 2000 The Netherlands became the first country to legalize same-se-x marriages. I may choose to follow a humans findings, I may choose to trust that a definition is the entire aspect of a topic too, but in the end all, I put my FAITH in other than a dictionary or an encyclopedia, or something that was written without the intervention of my God, I put my Faith in Gods word. Adam was made to be with Eve and bear children. The excact wording was not made to be picked over by a court or its appealers. Faith will never be dictated. Thank you all for the secular interpretations of what a few people think. I keep my state and religion separate. I hope and pray that gays find a way to satisfy their legal needs without intruding on peoples faith.
F*uck this clown.
We better listen to this expert in holding balls #atheism
You are #winning.
Just because someone is a ho-mose-xual does not mean that we cannot love him (or her) or pray for him (her). Ho-mose-xuality is a sin and like any other sin, it needs to be dealt with in the only way possible. It needs to be laid at the cross, repented of, and never done again.
As a Christian, we should pray for the salvation of the ho-mose-xual the same as we would for any other person in sin. The ho-mose-xual is still made in the image of God - even though he is in grave sin. Therefore, we should show them the same dignity as anyone else with which we come in contact. However, this does not mean that we are to approve of their sin. Don't compromise your witness for a socially-acceptable opinion that is void of godliness.
Thank you delusional one. Say high to zues next time you pray. Have you seen a unicorn before? They are quite beautiful.
@ Artist,
Have you ever seen a Kraken?
Fidei Coticula Crux
@ Artist,
Have you ever seen a Kraken?
---
yes
I saw a sane Christian once who peacefully coexisted with other religions and did not force others to obey his religion and who sold all his goods and gave the money to the poor and who loved his neighbor as he loved himself and . . . okay, there's no person like that nay more than there is a unicorn or a kraken.
But your non-belief in krakens is actually a form of believe in krakens, by the way.
Being gay is not a sin get a history book. It's about pagan rituals and idolatry.
Scientists today agree that s-exual orientation is most likely the result of a complex interaction of environmental, cognitive and biological factors. In most people, s-exual orientation is shaped at an early age. There is also considerable recent evidence to suggest that biology, including genetic or inborn hormonal factors, play a significant role in a person's s-exuality. Psychologists do not consider s-exual orientation to be a conscious choice that can be voluntarily changed.
God created gays and will continue to because bigoted people like you have to see the errors in your thinking just like it's been done over and over again throughout history. Stop taking the scriptures so literally, you have to put it into context.
You need to lay your hate and prejudice at the cross or burn in hell.
The problem is that your version of god tells you that you "need" to "pray" for people who were born he way they are. It is nothing against you, but it is just against in the likes of which you were brought up..it is not your faul that you were born into society this way. Had you been born in a free thinking world you would say the opposite of your comment I garuntee that. Its part of the thinking like that that helped kill millions of people around the world for hundreds of years because they thought they were doing "the work of god". We can't keep doing this to our kids and to our society. If anything those same chapters also say women should be veild, and we should be stoned to death for other practices, but no one pays attention to that.
Can't tell if troll.....
We've already been down this "grave sin" road before today.
Get out your catechism man, and read a couple lines about the definitions of grave or mortal sin.
There are three requirements, and one is not possible for anyone, but god and the sinner" to discern, according to your system.
How is it you can ? The least you people could do is read your own stuff. Sheesh.
In an attempt to respond to you with the same level of intelligence as that you have demonstrated in your comment I can only offer this – you sir, are a deluded muppet.
Kevin, that's the most hateful thing I have read on this blog in a long time. How dare you insult muppets like that!
"Have you ever seen a Kraken" yes its a mythology to describe whales and giant squids. Now that we understand this we don't call them sea monsters anymore. Now that we at the very least understand where life comes from we don't need most mythologies anymore.
@PsychoChristian qu'est-ce que c'est
Best name yet! And I agree about the muppets...
Am I the only one that thinks perhaps religious people are simply high functioning schizophrenics?
With the exception of the phrase "high functioning," I agree.
LOL
Not all religious people are schizophrenics, some are just confused. But this guy is a back as-sward toidi
You've never met La Chapparita, have you?
Certainly not, but I would call it more a spectrum disorder
That black Americans are now at the forefront in trying to deny civil equality to fellow citizens is just too, too much.
I love it.
So will history.
Bill, don't get it twisted, the majority of us Brothers are not trying to deny any rights from our fellow Americans, and to think otherwise is as stupid as the subject of this article.
Another athlete who thinks money buys brains and that people care what they think. He should focus more on catching duhhhhh ball or running his car lot as most athletes seem to gravitate towards....simple things like that
That's probably the same anarchy that was supposed to happen after interracial marriage was legalized.
I have yet to have anyone tell me how gay marriage will bring about the destruction of the family. If two people of the same s ex have a legally recognized marriage, it will make absolutely no difference on my marriage. Maybe Christians have far less confidence in their own family. If people want to defend the family, why not try to focus on the divorce rate?
Quickly how generations forget what others went through. I find it very interesting.
It's sad – one form of hatred and bigotry replaces another. Some people always seem to have a need to put others down in order to prop themselves up.
Another crazy right-wing fear-mongerer selling fear. Be afraid of g-ays! Get angry!
How will same-se-x marriage cause America to slip into chaos (anarchy is something different)? I bet his answer would be quite a giggle.
Have the countries which allow same-se-x marriage slipped into chaos (or anarchy, for that matter)? No, they are doing very well, thank you very much.
