Pastor explains, 'Why I don't sing the national anthem.'

On Friday, Mennonite pastor Mark Schloneger explained to CNN's Kyra Phillips his objection to singing the 'Star Spangled Banner.'

Early Schloneger wrote about it here on the belief blog. It was a topic that generated a lot of interest and over 4,000 comments.

No where in the Bible says you should not be patriotic. National Anthem is a symbol of our freedom. We fight for the freedom and this nation was founded on fighting for the freedom and America still fight for the freedom. Jesus said, give to Caesar what belongs to him and give to God what belongs to him. In fact Jesus was telling them to be patriotic and obey all the rules and regulations of the nation. I do not know where this pastor got the idea about this. He brings disgrace to the many of the patriotic pastors of the United States and to all the patriotic Christians of this great nation. God bless America.

How do you derive "be patriotic" from the separation of God and Caesar that Jesus clearly stated? Just curious

Founding Fathers contemplated of construction of the ancient nation Israel a lot when they created America. America is one of the few nations whose ideal can be paralleled to that of Israel.

Anthem means praise song or hymn. Christianity – the Western Civilization's heart and conscience.

Pastor Uncles memory starts playing tricks with his mind when he sings the National Anthem and he forgets the lines. Therefore I deduce that he makes believable excuses. HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY to all our friends in America from India.
