Evangelist produces ‘Real Housewives of the Bible’ DVD

By Liane Membis, CNN

There’s a new set of housewives on the block.

These women aren’t whining about fashion faux pas and socialite misgivings. Their stories are cast somewhere between the books of Genesis and Revelation.

Ty Adams, a web-based evangelist and author, is producing “The Real Housewives of the Bible,” a two-part DVD series that tracks six women dealing with the ups and downs of marriage as they strive to be good wives.

Adams said that “outrageous reality shows” like Bravo’s “The Real Housewives” series and VH1’s “Basketball Wives” inspired her to create a more wholesome version of the franchise.

“I was frustrated with what I was seeing,” she said. “A lot of society is looking towards programming to educate them on relationships and these shows haven’t effectively done that.”

“They have ruined and tainted our ability to secure good relationships and to make women into good wives,” said Adams, who is based in Detroit.

Adams has provided Christian relationship advice for nearly ten years, since she founded a production company called Heaven Enterprises in 2002. She’s the author of Single, Saved and Having Sex, has produced religious DVDs and plays and offers sex and relationship advice through a web-based column called “Ask Ty.”

Adams says the goal of her “Real Housewives” DVD, due out later this month, is helping women juxtapose real-life issues with Christian teaching. She says that teaching includes women’s obligation to attempt to sustain relationships that have endured extra-marital affairs and other hardships.

“Because we live in a media-driven society, telling these age-old stories of adultery, loneliness and longing through entertainment helps women relate,” Adams said.

Each character on the show represents a different woman from the Bible. A character based on the biblical Sarah struggles with infertility. (The biblical Sarah was barren until she reached old age).

Gold-digging women are likened to Delilah from the Book of Judges, who seduced and deceived Samson - who'd fallen in love with her - through repetitious requests.

And the show features plenty of Jezebels.

“Many single women can get a man but they can’t keep a man,” Adams said. “So many singles have been in girlfriend status for so long that they only understand that mentality. They don’t know what it takes to be a good wife in order to sustain a relationship and some parts of society promotes that.”

Marriage is an equal partnership that should be equally yoked. Many have ignored this & if this takes a woman's touch to restore what our Heavenly Father intended a marriage to be, let it be so.

It's about time someone from the Christian community brought us up to times and made teaching morality entertaining.

I think it's more amusing she got frustrated about the "Real Housewives" shows not properly educating people on how to handle relationships and relationship issues. Are people really turning to those kinds of shows for advice on how to handle their own relationships, as she suggests? Or is it more likely they're watching because people acting like idiots on national television makes them laugh?

First of all, on comment #3, there is no such thing as Ecclesiastes 25. Next, as far as this new dvd series goes, it just sounds like another way that someone is trying to make $. Next, its funny how critical people are who do not believe in God. Remember... If you are truely looking to make an opinion on the whole "God thing", don't fool yourself into making an opinion by watching your nearby Christians. If you truely are searching for an example, there is only one. Jesus. Study His life, actions, words, if you will...but don't make your opinion based on the sad "Christian" life your neighbor is leading. Besides, someday we will all find out the truth. And only one of us can be right. You either believe in God, or you don't. There is no in between. Pick your side. I believe 3 simple things – #1 He is alive, #2 He does love us, & #3 He IS coming back. Be ready. Get all your questions answered. If there really is a God, aren't we all underestemating His ability to answer us when we question Him? Give Him a chance. Think about it.

Great idea. So many women and men will be blessed because of your show. I am a christian filmmaker and I am definitely making films and webisodes about biblical teaching and how society can learn from it that will help in every part of their lives. God bless you on your project and I can't wait to see it manifest.

So many angry people. So many hateful people. So many lost people. Where will you be when you die? Before you turn against God, read His word. He can forgive and only His forgiveness matters. I stand firm for God. I certainly have enough brains (female brains at that) not to believe mere humans who do not know my God.

I would love to watch this I'm so going to buy it. Everyone is not perfect and its hard to live life by god values no one talks about guys any more thats why the world is so corrupt. This is a great idea I'm a young single mom that is trying to find out how to better myself in a positive way and remember life is not always perfect.

Do not ever trust a man who has had extra marital affairs. Find a true man regardless of religion who has morals and good values, who will worship you.

This is just another zero added on to the trillions being made by the entertainment industry. When they donate 75% of the proceeds I'll be impressed. Until then your are just someone else with dollar signs in their eyes. I have nothing against christians, but when you say things like, "my god exist and he'll show you when judgement day comes just wait", you sound like a bunch of little kids waiting for their daddy to get home so they can tattle on those big mean kids that wont stop picking on them at school. You have every right to believe but your not suppose to condemn everyone else because they don't. I'm pretty sure that's a no-no.

That is not a no-no, it is that if I call you on your sin, I must hold myself to that standard as well. That is what is meant by get the log out of your eye before you try to get the speck out of your brother's eye.

I'm surely supporting this!!! Finally, something with substance to it! Both Christian and non-Christian people have to be thoroughly educated on relationships the godly way in order to understand exactly what it takes to maintain them.

Where do I start. Yes, religion is corrupt. Yes a woman was tempted by sin. However, the man didn't stop it. People we got alot of reality to catch up on.

Buddhism is a peacful religion. More or then they regard it as a way of life and acceptance of other religions. Buddha wasn't a his but a leader. Tall bad about him, nothing will happen. There's never been any wars in the name of buddha but how many in the name of god?
