Perry's 'call' could shake up GOP field

By Jim Acosta and Erika Dimmler, CNN

Austin, TX (CNN) – For Republicans who are dissatisfied with the current presidential field for 2012, it could be divine intervention.

GOP insiders see Texas Governor Rick Perry as a potential game-changer. As his state's longest serving governor, the pro-business Perry appeals to both tea party activists and Christian conservatives, all with a Texas swagger.

At a press conference Monday, Perry confirmed what he recently told the Des Moines Register. He is feeling called by his faith and his friends to run.

"I don't ever get confused. I am a man of faith," he added.

The governor resisted the suggestion that his comments meant he is being called by God to jump into the GOP race.

America needs men of God like him more than ever. God bless American Christians, the only beacon of hope on Planet Earth. Don't give way to perversion and mass murder(abortion, etc.)!

This country was founded on the separation of church and state because the founding fathers knew the two shouldn't mix. We need smart political leaders, not religious nut jobs. Keep your religion in church where it belongs. You should probably stay inside your church too. The world is full of dangerous, free-thinking, loving people. You really wouldn't fit in anyway.

No, the country was founded to freely worship God in the Protestant faiths, never to blaspheme. Americans even decades ago never imagined the nation would become this morally and spiritually chaotic. Shame on you!!

Speaking of American Christians, perversion, and mass murder.....

We atheists have long memories....in the hope that one day, a new Nuremburg style trial will hold the Christian leaders and officials of America to account for their crimes against humanity. Your courageous leaders and your heroic air force pilots boiled women and children to death. Christian Amerikkka indeed.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amiriyah_shelter_massacre

"At 4:30 am the morning of 13 February, two F-117 stealth fighter/bombers each dropped a 2,000 pound GBU-27 laser-guided bomb on the shelter. The first cut through ten feet of reinforced concrete before a time-delayed fuse exploded. Minutes later the second bomb followed the path cut by the first bomb. People staying in the upper level were incinerated by heat, while boiling water from the shelter's water tank killed those below.

At the time of the bombing there were hundreds of Iraqi civilians in the shelter. More than 400 people were killed; reports vary and the registration book was incinerated in the blast. The dead were overwhelmingly women and children because men and boys over the age of 15 had left the shelter to give the women and children some privacy. The blast sent shrapnel into surrounding buildings, shattering glass windows and splintering their foundations.

The shelter is maintained as a memorial to those who died within it, featuring photos of those killed. According to visitors' reports, Umm Greyda, a woman who lost eight children in the bombing, moved into the shelter to help create the memorial, and serves as its primary guide."

Since when did Perry get so religious??? He has been Govner a long time and never called for prayer until God set Texas on fire. Now he is thinking about running for Pres. so he will FOOL ALL THOSE CHRISTIANS to get VOTES. Some christians just say "God said" and they are sure you are a REAL CHRISTIAN. Geo. Bush did that "God told him to be Pres." Then he told the Islam faith "we all serve the same God" so now we have Chrislam moving across the country because they say "if the Pres. says we all serbve the same God it must be true".

No, guv'nah Goodhair could not turn anything around, he'd just join his teabaggers & tear the country up, from the bottom to the middle, as he has with his own state! You think Texans are happy!? We are fighting for our lives here! I have never seen so many marches on the Capitol, as this year! Teachers, parents, students (many no older than 7), healthcareworkers, emergency sevices, police, firefighters( in the months of wild fires), all were fighting for their jobs & livelihoods! No word from the guv'nah! As long as he gets his, all is well with the world! He is not speaking to God, but I'm sure he's talking to a biblical being! As far as the jobs, they were not created by the gov't, & they are part-time & minimum wage at best! We are thankful to have them, but we know they have nothing to do with the gov't caring about us & our families! We know we're expendable & some 1 is happy to take our place! When did this happen last, oh yeah, Last Turn Of The Century!!

Texas has had the highest job creation in the last 10 years, thanks to low taxes, a business friendly government and a strong work ethic. More corporate headquarters are located in this state than any other.

Mr. Perry would turn the economy around overnight, as Reagan did, with a GOP congress. Four more years of the current government will not.

I've been shocked by Americans' ignorance on their Christian heritage. What are they teaching in public schools? No wonder Americans are so behind in everything by now. It was unthinkable decades ago. Think about the threats in Arctics or in Pacific and work harder!

It's funny you say that since Christians have opposed every social freedom we have in this country, (Abolishment of slavery, women's rights, interracial marriage, g-ay marriage, a~bortion), you name it christians were there holding up their bibles and shouting. Not that it's a bad thing, everyone does have their right to an opinion.

      July 23, 2011 at 3:57 am |
    • OceanLight

Wes, America population has been always mostly "Christian" and most civil rights were won by conscious Christians except for murder of defenseless(abortion) and perversion(gay marriagae). You non-believers did no contribution.

    • fimeilleur

      @ OceanLight,

How do you defend the concious decision of Mr Anders Behring Breivik? A self proclaimed Christan Fundamentalist. Or let me guess... he wasn't a real Christian... he must have been an Atheist "posing" as a Christian...

Your rantings are just the same as his the only difference is, you haven't killed anyone... so far... that we're aware of.

      July 23, 2011 at 2:51 pm |
    • OceanLight

@Fime-, Christians would NEVER kill unless combatting enemies in right wars or executing criminals lawfully. We have a long list of atheists who willingly did mega massacres everywhere.

      July 24, 2011 at 5:42 am |
    • fimeilleur

      @ OceanLight,

Didn't we already discuss this issue previously? You can't keep screaming the "true Scottsman" falacy everytime we mention another Christian who kills in the name of his faith, Michael F. Griffin, Rev. Paul Jennings Hill, John Salvi, Eric Robert Rudolph, James Kopp, Scott Roeder to name a few more. Care to point out where the lawfull execution of criminals comes in? These 6 were all convicted of killing abortion providers or people associated with the facility. The victims were performing LEGAL acts at the time of their deaths (it doesn't matter if you believe them to be immoral...) the victims were never charged as criminals and never given due process... these 6 murders were. The US declared war on Iraq for pocession of "weapons of mass destruction", though none were EVER found... do you still think the soldiers of Iraq died in a "just" war started by George W. Bush? I think your "NEVER" arguement was just blown out of the water.

Now I know, I know, your gonna bring up Pot, Stalin, Hitler, Mao, and others... I'll remind you that Hitler was a professed catholic, we'll argue back and forth... end of the line is that these people did horrible things and nobody denies this... What they didn't do, was they didn't commit their crimes in the name of Atheism. With the exception of Hitler, they all turned their lack of belief in a god or gods into a worship of the state, and went from there. The list of Christian atrocities is even longer my friend. The Jews even brag about their attrocities in their Torah, stating that it was the will of God...

Please spare us all the lies.

    • OceanLight

@Fime-, you are stupid. Christians saved more than 10 billion humans in the last 2,000 years. Europe and America did not have existence or well-being without Christianity. You are alive today ONLY because of Christianity. You Westerners are as barbaric and air-heads as any others if you didn't have Christianity.

Better be careful with these religious nuts. They are fun to poke fun at, for sure. But they have a terrifying "wishlist".

Christian Right Agenda – Christian Theocracy:

The Texas history books are rewriting history to give the conservative slant. The objective of this effort, is to create a Christian Nation, a theocracy with Jesus as Head of State.

A huge campaign is underway, to convince the American people, the founding fathers never intended a separation of church and state. Thomas Jefferson's role as a founding father is played down. In some cases Jefferson is smudged.
Expect an attack on the 1st and 14th Amendments. The founding fathers will weep.

Most of the Tea Party are for a Christian Theocracy. The Tea Party is in bed with the Christian Right. A vote for any Tea Party candidate, is a vote for Christian Right domination.

The Republicans are the puppets of the Christian Right and the Rich.

You will see an amendment defining marriage as between a man and woman. The repeal of "Don't Ask Don't Tell", will be in grave jeopardy. Gay rights will dwindle and die.

Roe Vs. Wade will be reversed. Women will once again be forced to seek back alley remedies. Men will be forced to buy condoms on the black market.

Stem cell research will stagnate. The hopes of damaged and sick people will be dashed.

All scientific research will be scrutinized by the Christian Right. "If a theory is in agreement with Scripture ", will be the new metric. Get use to hearing "God Did It".

P_ornography will be illegal. The Religious Right will decide what is p_ornographic , as well as what is art. You will watch television programs approved by the Evangelicals. Lots of reruns of "Growing Pains", starring that Evangelical darling Kirk Cameron. Thank you Jesus!

Creationism will be taught in public school, most likely alongside evolution rather than instead of, but no guarantees.

Vouchers will enable parents to send their child to religious schools. Funds to public schools will dwindle. Quality education will be out of reach for the masses. The finite amount of money, will be spread too thin. But what does it matter? It is the will of God.

Little Johnny will believe in talking snakes and Zombie Messiahs. The rest of the world is spending their time learning real science and math. Good luck Johnny. Can you say: "Would you like fries with that?"

State-sanctioned Prayer will be in our schools. The Christian Right think they know better than the Founding Fathers and want to tamper with the Bill of Rights. They want to amend the U.S. Const_itution, so that the Government would legally sponsor and take over the activity of prayer. Only the one true god, the Christian god, will be given homage. The non-Christians will be allowed to put their heads down on their desks, during the morning worship. They can contemplate their damnation, for not accepting Jesus.

$ex education will consist of abstinence only. Studies have shown it is a worthless concept. But, it will please Jesus.

The war against unions, commenced during the Bush administration, will continue.

Jesus will be the Head of State! He will be represented by an empty chair at the head of the leadership table. Only the Evangelicals will be able to hear His voice. They will tell the rest of us His will. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!

We will be a slave to a make believe god. If it wasn't so sad, it would be funny.

    Cheers!

As we "thu-mp" along with reviews, rational thinking, conclusions and reiteration to counter the millennia of false and flawed religious history and theology!!!--––

Beyond the Perrys of the world:

How much money would the following save the US taxpayers ?: a move to true morality!!!

    Saving 1.5 billion lost Muslims:
There never was and never will be any angels i.e. no Gabriel, no Islam and therefore no more koranic-driven acts of horror and terror

One trillion dollars over the next several years as the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan will end.

Eighteen billion dollars/yr to Pakistan will stop.

Four billion dollars/yr to Egypt will end.

Saving 2 billion lost Christians including the Mormons:
There was and never will be any bodily resurrections i.e. No Easter, no Christianity.

The Mormon empire will now become taxable as will all Christian "religions" and non-profits since there is there is no longer any claim to being a tax-exempt religion.

Saving 15.5 million Orthodox followers of Judaism:
    Abraham and Moses never existed.

Four billion dollars/yr to Israel saved.

All Jewish sects and non-profits will no longer be tax exempt.

Now all we need to do is convince these 3.5+ billion global and local citizens that they have been conned all these centuries Time for a Twitter and FaceBook campaign!!!!

Seems like the only thing christians love is to hate, and they are doing that very well. I can tell by the rants around here that if a dark-skinned person was trying to help the needy and asking the rich to give more to help the poor you would call him a liberal and run him out of town. And that is the irony, Jesus was that liberal you have all grown to hate so much and invoke his name to do it.

@ Ocean Light – I don't get were you're coming from. This country was founded by people who were being persecuted for their religion in Europe.
