Prosecution rests in polygamist sect leader trial

By the CNN Wire Staff

San Angelo, Texas (CNN) - Texas prosecutors rested their case Wednesday in the sexual assault trial of polygamous sect leader Warren Jeffs after playing a key piece of evidence for jurors: an audiotape they allege documents his sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl.

One juror wiped her eyes as she listened to the recording. Another looked at Jeffs out of the corner of her eye. Still another had a hand covering her mouth.

The tape contained praying at the beginning and end, and in it a man alleged by prosecutors to be Jeffs addresses the alleged victim by name. At one point, the man asked her how she feels, and a girl replies in a small voice, "I feel fine, thank you." At another point, the man appears to address other people who are present.

"It was very hard to listen to," CNN's Gary Tuchman said of the recording. Authorities seized it from the car Jeffs was traveling in when he was arrested in 2006.

Here is MY closing argument to the jury as the prosecutor, "Hello Members of the Jury" I then point to Warren Jeffs, and sit down. It was a slam dunk for the jury.

I have never in my life met an Atheist full of hate and bigotry... I have met many christians like "Adelina", full of hate and bigotry. Go figure. Back on topic, Jeffs should be thrown away forever and the parents of his young brides should be charged with child abuse for allowing this man to molest their daughters.

Atheists don't have any reason to be filled with hate or bigotry, we simply live our lives and don't rely on the big man in the sky to tell us how to live our lives or who to hate, like religion does.

I've encountered many murderous atheists. Atheists hate any type of truth being told. That's their problems. Atheists cannot leave the religious alone, for atheists are evil.

Clearly, you are lying, because if you’d met “many murderous atheists”, you wouldn’t be here to tell us how evil we are.

I have noticed that Christians get all worked up when anyone says anything that doesn’t tell them out great they and their faith are. They seem very insecure. I wonder if God really wants such a desperate, needy flock?

Jeffs should get solitary confinement for the rest of his days alive. Let the goon go even more insane than he already is.

I was never a "Buni ni." I don't get deceived by stupid atheists who say I stumble them. American atheists/blasphemists do all the evil knowingly; all they need is the truth told, not a single sugar cube. Such era is over.

How do you expect to be taken seriously as a 'good' Christian when you go against one of the basic fundamental's of the teachings of your book of fiction? Judge not, let ye be judged...sound familiar??? Or does that only apply to Christians? Either way it is you that has the problem, not the Atheists. We are not the ones committing such horrific crimes and if we do, then we pay for it in the here and now and not in some after-life that will never be proven. It is my guess that you have never had the opportunity to get to know an Atheist b/c you are far too ignorant to try to understand them.

Summary: Your life would be enriched if you spent less time on Christianity and more time on learning English. Based on your post, you have lots to learn. English is a very valuable tool. When used correctly, it helps for others to take you seriously. Unlike now where you can easily be taken for a blabbering idiot with an IQ much less (way less) than the chimpanzees I saw at the zoo yesterday.

@Summary (oh she of a million names)
The Old Testament contained rules for the Jewish people on how to treat each other.
When Christ arrived, He extended the concept to include everyone.
It seems you pine for the vengeful, smitey God of the Tanakh and not the forgiving, merciful God of Christianity.
Perhaps you've picked the wrong religion.

How dare you judge anyone?? You are a self-righteous moron without a moral bone in your body!!
We don't misquote anything...in fact most of us are recovering christians who have seen the truth for what it is. I studied your book of fiction long and hard and nowhere in that passage does it say it does not apply to Atheists.

Come back with solid evidence, until then troll to people who think you are smart...here you just look like an uneducated idiot

Wow, I'm not sure exactly what you said, there. I do think perhaps you went to the same school of communication that Warren Jeffs went to. Do Christians EVER get tired of bashing us Atheists? NO? Figures...

Hey Doc, I have a question for you. What changed God after Jesus came? Did God just decide to stop being ruthless and mean? Or, perhaps did the Christian church just decide that they didn't want to be associated with the Old Testament God. I mean, when you make up the god of choice, you can give him whatever characteristics you want him to have. Just curious, is all.

      August 5, 2011 at 12:04 am |
    • @Atheists

No worries. We Christians always value you and love you in Christ and pray for you, no matter how evil and stupid you are. We Christians cannot do otherwise. The moral laws of Moses still applies to this day for Christians. Jesus finished the ritual laws. God is co-herent throught the history and in both the Old and New Testament Bible. Those who differenciate God in OT and NT are the ones whose Bible study is premature and incomplete.

      Judging Is Believing.

Yes, and why, even of yourselves, do you not judge what is right? (Luke 12:57)

      What is right?

The statutes of the Lord are right (Psalm 19:8).

      Amen.

Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, “Let me remove the speck from your eye”; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

So…you get to speak up for Christianity, but if anyone speaks against it, they need to shut up. What’s the matter? Is your faith so weak that you can’t hear people not agree with you? You’ll topple into Satan’s grasp if everything around you doesn’t prop up your belief.

I gotta say, that’s not a ringing endorsement for the value of Christianity.

“Some of its text 3,500 years old”

The Vedic Verses (basis of Hinduism) are over 6,000 years old. What’s your point?

    • Summary

Christians care for self-image since everyone expects Christians to be good. Atheists need no such concerns; no one expects atheists to be good in any way, including the atheists themselves. If any atheist doesn't slander good things, he is somewhat a better one among them.

      August 4, 2011 at 4:08 am |
    • TruthPrevails

@Summary: stop slandering people!! Do not speak without knowledge (ie: mormon's are not Christians). You sound rather uneducated in your comments. You think you know who is destroying this planet and who is causing the damage to humanity and yet you fail to look at the vast picture. Human nature is what is doing the damage regardless of belief. Some of us just choose not accept anything without evidence to back it...we don't accept a God b/c there is nothing to prove one ever existed...not one person has come back from the dead to give details of how wonderful heaven is or how horrible he.ll is.
Carl Sagan said 'extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence'...the burden of proof lies on you, not us!!
Get over yourself, you're a bad Christian without good morals

      August 4, 2011 at 7:12 am |
    • Summary

@T-P-, why atheists cannot stand factual statements? Who cares what Sagan says? Unbelieving Americans have nothing worth. You don't believe in God only so that you can continue your personal immorality without the thought of justice; you are bullying Christians.

Let’s see…bearing false witness…judging…pride. Yep, Summary, you’re racking up quite a lot of sins there. Or perhaps, because you believe in Jesus, that means you are exempt from the Laws that God relayed through Moses? I’m pretty sure God is not going to feel that way. You’d better repent now if you want to get into Heaven.

Ah, the truth comes out, Summary. You live by the “I can sin all I want because I’m Jesus’ favorite” line. Except it doesn’t work that way. Those sins I listed apply to YOU. Jesus said so. Christ didn’t die so you could do whatever you wanted. He commanded his followers to love God and follow His laws. Laws that you are breaking. Even if you have a golden ticket to Heaven by claiming Christianity, you won’t get that ticket punched if you continue to violate God’s Law. You are REQUIRED to follow that Law. It is a cornerstone of your faith.

On the other hand, I have no such requirement. I tend to follow the Big 10 not because I’m afraid of an angry sky daddy but because they are the right things to do. Being a good person should be everyone’s goal. Not out of fear of punishment but because it’s good. If you keep this up, I’m going to end up in Heaven while you’ll have to cool your heels in Purgatory…if you’re lucky.

Oh, and the Mormons are also known as the Church of JESUS CHRIST and Latter Day Saints. You can keep saying they aren’t Christian all you want but that isn’t the truth. And we know how God feels about lying…
