Glenn Beck: Hurricane Irene is a 'blessing'By Dan Gilgoff, CNN.com Religion Editor Conservative radio host Glenn Beck told listeners Friday that Hurricane Irene, the Category 1 storm that’s working its deadly way up the Eastern Seaboard, is “a blessing from God.” Beck has long urged his fans to stockpile food in their homes in anticipation of a global food disruption. He said Irene should be construed as a divine warning for those who have ignored that advice. Here’s Beck on his show Friday:
The Washington Post reports that in encouraging home stockpiling, Beck, a convert to Mormonism, is echoing Mormon church teaching. The church encourages members to build home storehouses of food that could last for at least three months. According to a website run by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the official name of the Mormon church:
The site includes a food storage calculator. To build a three-month supply of food for a family of four, the calculator recommends 300 pounds of “wheat, white rice, corn and other grains” and 60 pounds of “dry beans and other legumes.” The Post notes that food storage is one pillar of the Mormon emphasis on self-reliance. |

"When under trial let no one say I am being tried by God. For with evil things God cannot be tried, nor does he himself try anyone." (James 1:13) God is NEVER the source of evil or bad things (natural disasters included). To call it them "acts of God" is to thoroughly ignore that "God is love." How do you reconcile your comments with the truth in the Bible, Glenn Beck? Maybe you should start by reading it and stop making stuff up!
I'm tired of people "knowing" what god is doing or what he wants. I'm tired of people somehow knowing that there is a god to begin with! I don't know....and I'm pretty sure you don't know either. Please don't claim to me or anyone else that the bible is true. Like anything else in the universe....you must provide some evidence for its accuracy.
"God is NEVER the source of evil or bad things (natural disasters included). To call it them "acts of God" is to thoroughly ignore that "God is love." How do you reconcile your comments with the truth in the Bible, Glenn Beck?'"
If this is true, then what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah??????
Wrong, Kevin. Read, for example, Genesis 7:4, Genesis 19:24, Ezekiel 5:17 to name a few!
One word – Wacko.
Wish another one would take him out

Rabia Diluvio,
"Something you apparently didn't notice: he didn't suggest that the deaths from the hurricane were some sort of blessing–the hurricane had not even approached landfall at the time"
Something you obviously didn't notice was that the more deaths and destruction, the stronger the message. If this storm caused no deaths and damages, do you really think it would have a significant impact on preparations in the future?
May God bestow many such "blessings" upon Mr. Beck.
amen
The real blessing from Mormons is being able to shack up with like 10 women at the same time!
not make sense much?
We also know that one of Beck's sponsors is some company (I don't recall the name) from which you can buy all this food and other supplies needed to survive Doomsday. So, not only is he shilling for the Mormon church, he's lining his own pockets as well. What else would you expect from Beck?
You do realize that all radio and TV broadcasters, Diane Sawyer, Rush, John Stewart, etc. are all lining their pockets BECAUSE they have sponsors. Can none of you think past surface thoughts? Apparently not compared to what I have read on here. You know "a mind is a terrible thing to waste" and I see a lot of waste. I'll leave with this thought:
WHAT IF GLENN BECK IS RIGHT?
Why doesn't God just make the earthquake, tsunami, hurricane, etc not happen?? Wouldn't that prevent the need to stockpile food in the first place?
Wow , is it just me or do people get dumber everyday on here lol
No, because you forgot man.
Glenn Beck has shown how dangerous the Bizarre Metamagical Belief accepting disorder at the ROOT of all religions & neurological disorder like schizophrenia truly is.
Since in the case of Glenn Beck as well as Palin, Bachmann, Perry and all devoted Christians under this neurological anomaly, the Imaginary friend (Bizarre Metamagical Belief) happen to be a resurrected Zombie named Jesus Christ that saves with blood- a belief that has been taught as reality for over 1700 yrs and the CORE of Christianity( the scourge of Brain healthy rational thought- this crazy deluded irrational psychotic belief of resurrected zombie that saves with blood is not defined for the schizotypy it is.
If Glenn Beck would be preaching about the ALien Spirits inside black stormy clouds, which to him causes pneumonia so one must fall on one's knees during a full moon spitting on one's hands touching the forehead three times to prevent the pneumonia, Beck would have been placed in a sanatorium to address his brain malfunction years ago but...
...Since he preaches about a zombie god named Jesus the Christ who inserted himself during spiritual coitus inside the egg of a jewish maiden so he could have flesh to sacrifice to HIMSELF so with His SACRED BLOOD he could SAVE humanity for the SIN of disobedience committed by a mudman & ribwoman when they accepted forbidden fruit from a talking snake (ALL true Christians MUST believe this as FACTUAL TRUTH) then he is NOT CRAZY, and must be allowed to speak the utter nonsense that ALL people of Faith do.
ChristPsychosis infected ignoramuses like him and the VAST majority of those in Congress, must be urged to submit to a NEUROLOGICAL exam before been allowed to run for PUBLIC OFFICE. All places of worship where LIES & irrational INTOLERANT nonsense are presented as TRUE molesting the BRAINS of the children MUST have a warning sign ( as in tobacco products) that reads:
WARNING: accepting the fairy tales presented in this premisses as TRUE can be detrimental to your mental health, causing bouts of OCD, depression, intellectual stagnation & intolerance of your fellow humans"
I suggest CNN ASK all candidates seeking election, in the case of Christians, if they believe Zombie JEsus resurrected & saves with blood, and if they PRAY to imaginary friends. As Gov Perry does.
CNN ought to ask Romney & other Mormon candidates, if they TRULY believe there was a young prophet named Joseph Smith whom an Angel appeared giving him two magic stones to translate golden plates hidden in his farm, that later would become the Book Of Mormon.
Glenn Beck must be committed, his ChristPSychosis is becoming fullblown.
Calpurnpiso.
You're a devil child. Evil Evil put a d in front of it and you have Devil. Mormons are correct in their interpretation of the Bible. No doubt about it .
Making fun of an entire religion just makes you sound like an uneducated bigot.
Faith.
hey CNN, Did Bill O'Reilly or Sean Hannity have any comment?
Scared of Glenn Beck, NOT We don't have to trash him; he is an idiot who continues to make himself look like trash.
Pin head
Not a blessing for the people, especially kids, killed by the storm. But maybe god didn't love them as much.
I am surprised God has not already destroyed us. He destroyed Sodom, for possibly less.
But we have believers here. We have killed so many babies, and Sodomy is rampant. We are fortunate, time to repent folks.
Your "god" is rather capricious, isn't he/she/it? Does horribly violent acts like global floods, drowning all the "sinners," save a family lead by a drunk; wipes out a couple cities because the inhabitants weren't hospitable enough or supposedly full of "sin," which by now is becoming a rather nebulous term; and let us not forget setting a couple of bears upon a group of children, mauling them, all because they made fun of some prophet's baldness.
Yes, your "god" is something I really feel like worshipping right now.
I have a proposition for everyone: We all have beliefs and opinions. Lets see some proof people, until then keep your views to yourself. I am talking about cold hard facts. How did we get here? How was the Universe created? I dont want to hear about the bible as proof, i dont want to hear about Evolution as proof, (i do actually believe in evolution however, it doesnt prove anything beyond species development and even then its a theory) How about Alien visitation? There are so many possibilities and none have been proven. each person may lean a direstion and try to sell a point of why they believe but its irrelevent because its an opinion not proof. Belief is a good thing, Belief in God, Belief in no god, Belief in Aliens...etc.... but until someone can lay down the facts that prove one way over another witrhout any doubt – lets leave one anothers belief out of the blogs. Crazy thing is maybe we are all part of a video game that some acne plagued teenager in another dimension is playing.
t-bone,
Good idea.
So what should we do about people who make statements like "The worst kind of person oin the world anymore is the non-believer"?
I would suggest we read the rest of the quote. the rest that says "Because they are the ones who jam their philosophy down the throat of everyone else and belittle them for their views." or were you too tired to read the rest of the quote?
they actually do know how earth and the galaxy were created. learn something.
t-bone,
Why not actually read what you wrote for a change? You made a statement (""The worst kind of person oin the world anymore is the non-believer") and then gave a supporting reason for it's being true supposedly ("because .....). So by your missing logic you think that giving a reason negates the original statement. And then you picked on Obama supporters about comprehension! Wow!
Is English a second language for you?
Trollmanjack
if a tree falls in a forrest does anybody hear.... if glen beck farts in crowed mall does anybody hear.... does anybody care...
If worms had machine guns would birds still mess with them?
If Glen Beck takes a turd on your lawn would you taste it ....
a real blessing would be if lightning would char his butt
I am looking for HP touchpad for $99.00 does anybody know where I can finde one.
Amen to the comment re: FDR creating a nation full of government dependents
Boy... I'm not here to support or trash Glenn Beck but there are sure a lot of Glenn Beck haters here today. All I can think is that you liberals are really scared of who he is or what he says. If you weren't, you wouldn't be quick to post your pathetic attempts to trash him.
You must have been in home-school the day the rest of us learned the difference between ridicule (which we feel toward Glenn Beck) and fear (which we don't fear from anything little Glennie hallucinates about).
Yes because only liberals disagree with and trash Glenn Beck....
Glen Beck doesn't scare me. I believe it's only a matter of time before he ends up in a straight jacket and a padded room drooling on himself.
What scares me is the number of people in the United States whose intelligence is in such a state that they listen to this psychotic.
That's funny Dave. You sure sound like you are supporting Glenn Beck. Glenn Beck thanks God for sending a disaster that causes massive destruction and kills people and you support him and slip in a backhanded jab at liberals for trying to defend themselves against such melevolence. Who is the real hater here?
Scared of Beck? Not hardly: The man himself is a ridiculous sideshow attraction whose views are becoming more and more outside what the vast majority might regard as "sane." What I DO fear, however, would be the number of people who take this idiot seriously and would either attempt to capitalize on his popularity or would actually try to act on his views.
"Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups," George Carlin once said. You may count yourself among that number, Dave.
