Opinion: Why Muslims are still mad at America

Editor’s note: Steven Kull is director of the Program on International Policy Attitudes and author of the recently released book, Feeling Betrayed: The Roots of Muslim Anger at America.

By Steven Kull, Special to CNN

On the ten-year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, many Americans are wondering whether the risk of a terrorist attack against America has been reduced. The picture is mixed. With the death of Osama bin Laden, al Qaeda is weaker. With revolutions in several Arab countries, frustrations with unpopular autocratic governments — a recruiting theme for terrorist groups – have been mitigated. But one important contributing factor has not improved – widespread anger at America in the Muslim world. While views have improved in Indonesia, throughout the Middle East and South Asia, hostility toward the United States persists unabated.

Political jehad is one thing that has few groups of so called terrorists are fighting but religious jehad is another specially when people mock of our religion "GOD,Angels,Messangers" it is for that you will find every single Muslim is a Jehadist so blame no one but the unlimited freedoms that are intended to hurt annoying believers...!

this is why america is retarded we look so little on to the rest of the world and think we are so mighty. people in the middle east want to live free but they cant do so while we go there and make wars for oil. every one is different just because our federal system of government works for us it docent mean it will work for everyone. also because of the suffering that goes on people who had never had an education are more likely to be brainwashed by these monsters i call religious manipulators. imagine growing up in a house where your family had just been killed by soldiers and then a group of people came to you and said they can help you make them pay. dont blame the religion there have always been people who used religion to there advantage.

Here's an idea of how you can reclaim your religion from the radical element. Your religious ranks claim around 1.5 billion followers. The number of the radical element numbers in the low thousands. If you are really serious about getting rid of these bad people, it seems that by your sheer numbers you would be able to rise up against them. But the thing is you are to afraid. You always flow with tide. Whoever is in power, is the ones whose butts you kiss in order to keep yourself out of trouble. If you want to change it, you'll have to do it yourselves.

Islamic radicals are in the neighborhood of 20%, not "thousands." That means hundreds of MILLIONS who fully believe in jihad.

Have you been dreaming or had some thing that twisted your mind...? You will not find people with a word written on their foreheads "Redical"... Therefore you never would know one unless they are extremely mad about some thing...otherwise the rest who are deep in such thoughts are no where in cities they are rather in isolated places in the deserts or mountain caves maybe...we are here secular Gvt therefore might we not need to kiss any one's butt...well until now at least...

I care about religious freedoms for everyone, including the freedom not to have any religion if I chose so. Frankly, I am less than attracted by the Muslim faith, however I disapprove of slurs like you are launching. That dumb and UN-American.

I believe that a lack of education and economic opportunity will continue to plague the muslim world. Funny how many muslims come to the U.S. for a better life and never return to their homeland (save visits). I can safely say I will NEVER go to Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia or any other predominantly muslim country for any reason.

Poor soul, do you feel so much unwelcomed if you go to these countries....!?
We have a saying that goes " Seek your education or living even if had to go to China"... So you see because you get money even if you lazied from work you will not seek to taking for immigration... Beside only venturers would go other of their circle..but those were British/English who were courageous enough to venture and not.......!!

CNN just ran a story a few weeks ago based on recent polling that showed how happy the were with America and the way they are treated. CNN just can't stand the facts of the poll, so they had to go out and find disgruntled people so as to continue CNN's storyline of how much everyone hates the U.S., including CNN employees.

Shame on you CNN! Shame. You want to be politically correct and post a bunch of garbage for the Muslim community. The USA was attacked on 9-11
not the muslim community. If Obama would like to see leadership, look at Australia! See what they told people of this screwed up religion.
The real difference is this. When somebody depicts Mohammed with a bomb on his head, they flip out and want to murder people. When Christians are made fun of, routinely by the media, they DONT! GET IT!

Just watched Susan Malveaux report a story on "Best/Worst Countries for Women" The worst countries all have one thing in common, but the word "Musim" was never used in the story about why women have no rights in some countries. CNN said "they have a different system of law" regarding women's rights, Wonder what that means? Thanks CNN for your struggle to try to improve women's rights despite U.S. censorship preventing you from using the words "Muslim" or "Islam" in your new stories.

Shame on perfidious muslims! The US helped muslims in Afghanistan get their country back from the invading Soviets. When the Soviets left so did the Americans to leave Afghans to their own country. So the Afghans blow it and the Paki muslims helped by the Saudi Wahabbists come in an really mess things up with extreme muslim wacko ideology. So blame yourselves! Americans came to your rescue in Afghanistan, in Saudi, in Kuwait, and yes even in Iran (kept Stalin out). So what the heck do you want!? Muslims grow up and stop blaming others for your own problems, and it might help to be grateful for the Huge help the US has given you.

She gives with one hand and take with the other...after all not all seems as disguised... Any way thanks to America for every thing although it added more trouble than it resolved...all we see is continous bloodshed where ever it went....besides we think what has happened in the Iraqi prisons by your soldiers was not a helping hand at all..was it now...?

      October 14, 2011 at 8:17 pm |
  16. Muneef

I think Muslim community is in deep trouble for it's backwardness and poverty while we see nothing is being done to resolve that...do we no have any other more important things to discuss than Birthdays or which foot first or this or that? So many things are being discussed and focused on that which has nothing about perfecting us as Muslims in front of the other nations...

Our nation was once a "Light House of knowledge for all those nations...but today we are being given as the worse example among the nations...!! Why was that and where we went wrong? What has to be reviewed and be adjusted... It was our Imams and the educated Muslims behind the failure of the Image of Islam on the face of the nations of earth...
It was us as Muslims who should have been highly educated masses and be one of the most prosperous nations covered under the Islamic umbrella...
Islam was based on the investment of the human being knowledge as to Read,Think and Learn for making the benefit beneficial for all Human beings... Islam was based on Mercifulness towards human beings and towards bringing them to know what they do not know with out compelling their belief nor to killing them for not adopting what they do not know of or for their belief...

If the Majority of Muslim Nation are seen in deep poverty, backwardness, ignorance, uneducated and accused worldwide as being as Sa-v-age and Barbar-i-ans ?? Who would you think would believe you are on the right track? Was or Is that really what we wanted to achieve for Islam Image? How would GOD "Allah" or his Ring Messenger and Prophet..think of our achievements for Islam Image..? What ever is happening is causing fears and doubts to other nations who no longer now want to eat with Muslims or live by Muslims and that is happening now to all Islamic nation worldwide..! They are doubted in fear of their mentality and intentions of their hearts towards other living human beings..! Was it that what we wanted for Islam or was it like that how it should have been??
In the past of earlier decades every nation or individuals of any nation were happy to deal or trade or buy from Islamic traders marking them as being most honest and truthful...that's how they were known as traders who's their sea trade extended from Indian ocean to the China Sea...those other than the land transportation by Camel Caravans moving between the South and North as well as between the far East and the far West...!!

How can we regain the image of Islam as a religion of Honesty,Knowledge and Prosperity for the Nation of Islam... It was one of the saddest things to see that Islam has no longer one major "Bait Maal Almuslimeen" "The Islamic Wealth Vault" which could have used such funds to encourage such developments to the nation rather than on hate or terror suicidal acts that Islam being abused by...!
Asking GOD "Allah" for forgiveness for what has been said as a reminder to our nation and leaders... That we should not take the Shells for discussions and leave behind the True Heart of the Message relaid upon us to carry in the best of Image and acts.. Just remember that Pen could be a better weapon than Swords... With Pens we will spill Oceans of Inks but with Swords we will spill oceans of bloods..
    Peace to all,

Sorry, it's not a matter of "image" at being "seen in deep poverty, backwardness, ignorance, uneducated and accused worldwide as being as Sa-v-age and Barbar-i-ans." These are FACTS, not perception or mere accusations. Islam needs to change its actual BEHAVIOR. It is not a matter for the movies, media, or PR to simply portray these inappropriate behaviors in a more flattering light.

Then we taught you again in Spain and finally now our Arabian Springs has inspired your Wall street movement... As it seems you were born yesterday...

Really silly to think that people were dancing for the murder of other innocent people that were in the planes and the buildings that were targeted but rather those who had laughed or danced were at state of shock of disbelief while happy to seeing that the Pride of the Hulk or the "T-i-tanic" Tyrant been hurt...

What they did not know is that this was not the story they were made to believe...but was rather a broke hulk was all rapped up in protocols and agreements that froze  their move and had to plan and allow the happening of some thing big that would allow it break the chains wrapped up with to do what it had done for the last decade....!?

Who is laughing at who with such stories that you planed created for us more advance beforehand which were and are watched it the Hollywood Movies...other than all the prophecies beforehand...!! It was by such act as well the presidency and the party time was extended for four other additional years to mess-up with the that been messed up with since then.

Twin Towers world trade centers....how much financial transactions take place there...? For who's interest to mixup the cards or burn down the records? What were the effects of that towards the world economy and trade...? Who's full benefit such act was for....? Was it at all for Muslims benefit!! How much Muslims have lost against the benefit of hurting a pride of a Tyrant...!?
Just wonder whether Enron some how connected to it since that was within time frame...!!

How about the deviout that made a massive profit on four of the companies that were headquartered in the World Trade Center? How much profit? $200 M by shorting the stock yet the president made sure that was plled from the news. Your kind had friends at our top levels of govt.. Sure, Wall Street & others are absolutely willing to sell their fellow Americans lives for their own profit.

That should make you feel pleased that America has people with the same kind of ethics and morals as you and your countrymen. That should make you very happy and very proud...

I feel sorry for Muslims. They are such serious, "good" people. Whatever they feel towards the West is their freedom, but they need to read the Bible and stop hating Israel for their own sake. The enemy of Israel makes himself an enemy of the Almighty God. He Himself says so. Muslims never study the sacred texts honestly or wholly; that's the problem.

    September 8, 2011 at 12:47 am |
    • LP

Why do they need to read your sacred text? Have you read theirs? You have every right to believe what you bible says, but so do the adherants of any religion. But you can't rightfully claim that yours is true and theirs is not.

      September 8, 2011 at 7:56 pm |
    • MyLogic

LP asks if if you have read the Muslim sacred texts. The answer is...which ones? Although the Koran is proclaimed as the sacred word of Allah, very little of basic Islamic practice is actually contained in it. Pray five times a day? Not going to find the times laid out in there. To find that, you need to read the OTHER "texts" of Islam..the recognized Hadith. So we read Bukhari, Muslim and the top four or five and is that enough? My teacher would say, that is a start. The Hadith is the magnifying glass one uses to view and interpret the Koran. Is that enough? Hardly, then one has to find Islam in practice and how these things are interpreted by Muslims for centuries. That depends on the school of Jurisprudence (Sharia) one aligns oneself with. Books such as Reliance of the Traveler, etc. Then you start to get a good grip on the content. As far as no one being "right"? You won't find that in Islam.

    911 Goha's Nail fixed on the whole Islamic Nation and not particular sectors of Islam;

    911. From days alike last year 2010 up to these same days..of 2011 already one whole year for me here and noticed that heat arises every time this days come closer or a certain accidents take place... Last year was a Florida Paster of Dove Church threatening to burn the Quran...! This year GOD knows what under sleeve awaiting the opportunity to divid the nations united under the Western and Eastern Flags further more into bloodshed confrontations...under the name of Religions or Political Parties"Ideologies"...!

Latest was explosions in India marked as "Islamic Jihadists" and another in Pakistan although I was surprised that it was not marked as "Hindu Jihadists"... That would have had both Great Countries confront each other serving the purpose of other competing nations over the Rich Indian Peninsular... Believe me no nation fall back unless people of her own are traitors to it's nations principals and beliefs for the reason of Hate,Envy,Revenge, or Greeds towards material wealth even if by selling their Dignity and integrity or their family, tribe, community, the nation and the country it wouldn't mean much to them...and those can be found among every level of the one Society...

Any way seems that we Muslims are seeing our religion is being Nailed one  after another with acts that we disapprove of under any name such as targeting civilians or those in duty of the law and order..! As a responsible person from a great religion such as Islam, I wouldn't make an act in a place where I think many innocent Muslims would suffer in the hands of non Muslims...!!
Still I do not believe that those call them selves Muslims Jihadists would not mind making a Terrorist acts at or close to Mosques or any minorities worship houses, nor in the markets where people make and take their living and needs..!?!
This is not my Islam where we should reflect to be a honorable example that is Respected and Feared as Human of High Morals and Intel-lig-ence rather than being Feared as Sa-v-age Barb-a-rians...!! That is the True Jihad and not the one we see every one use to claim a false victory bases other humans miseries..!?!

Islam and Muslims is a General Word that is divided it to many sectors that are rejecting, disputing the main Islamic doctrine... So how would we know which of those are doing what where all then blamed for some thing they knew not of...?
Find for your self which sector could be responsible in such big conspiracy with others who hate Islam in targeting the Original Islam Doctrine and other innocent Islamic sectors...!?!

And the solution can be found below:

The Five Steps To Deprogram 1400 Years of Islamic Myths:

( –The Steps take less than two minutes to finish- simply amazing, two minutes to bring peace and rationality to over one billion lost souls- Priceless!!!)

      Are you ready?

Using "The 77 Branches of Islamic "faith" a collection compiled by Imam Bayhaqi as a starting point. In it, he explains the essential virtues that reflect true "faith" (iman) through related Qur’anic verses and Prophetic sayings." i.e. a nice summary of the Koran and Islamic beliefs.

The First Five of the 77 Branches:

      "1. Belief in Allah"

aka as God, Yahweh, Zeus, Jehovah, Mother Nature, etc. should be added to your cleansing neurons.

"2. To believe that everything other than Allah was non-existent. Thereafter, Allah Most High created these things and subsequently they came into existence."

Evolution and the Big Bang or the "Gi-b G-nab" (when the universe starts to recycle) are more plausible and the "akas" for Allah should be included if you continue to be a "crea-tionist".

"3. To believe in the existence of angels."

A major item for neuron cleansing. Angels/de-vils are the mythical creations of ancient civilizations, e.g. Hitt-ites, to explain/define natural events, contacts with their gods, big birds, sudden winds, protectors during the dark nights, etc. No "pretty/ug-ly wingy thingies" ever visited or talked to Mohammed, Jesus, Mary or Joseph or Joe Smith. Today we would classify angels as f–airies and "tin–ker be-lls". Modern de-vils are classified as the de-mons of the de-mented.

"4. To believe that all the heavenly books that were sent to the different prophets are true. However, apart from the Quran, all other books are not valid anymore."

Another major item to delete. There are no books written in the spirit state of Heaven (if there is one) just as there are no angels to write/publish/distribute them. The Koran, OT, NT etc. are simply books written by humans for humans.

Prophets were invented by ancient scribes typically to keep the un-educated masses in line. Today we call them for-tune tellers.

Prophecies are also invali-dated by the natural/God/Allah gifts of Free Will and Future.

"5. To believe that all the prophets are true. However, we are commanded to follow the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)
Mohammed spent thirty days "fasting" (the Ramadan legend) in a hot cave before his first contact with Allah aka God etc. via a "pretty wingy thingy". Common sense demands a neuron deletion of #5. #5 is also the major source of Islamic vi-olence i.e. turning Mohammed's "fast, hunger-driven" hallu-cinations into horrible reality for unbelievers.

Walk these Five Steps and we guarantee a complete recovery from your Islamic ways!!!!

Unfortunately, there are not many Muslim commentators/readers on this blog so the "two-minute" cure is not getting to those who need it. If you have a Muslim friend, send him a copy and help save the world.

Analogous steps are available at your request for deprogramming the myths of Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Paganism..

Reality is copying and pasting from the anti-islam sites. The problem with most of them is that they change words around or only quote one sentence( instead of the surah) to interpret the Quran.
