Pope Benedict 'returns home' to Germany

By Rick Noack, CNN

(CNN) - Pope Benedict XVI arrived at Berlin's Tegel airport Thursday morning.

About 6,000 police officers are securing the visit, authorities told CNN.

"Even though this journey is an official visit which will reinforce the good relations existing between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Holy See, I have not come here primarily to pursue particular political or economic goals, but rather to meet people and to speak about God," the pope said during a speech at Bellevue Castle.

The Federal Republic of Germany has become what it is today thanks to the power of freedom shaped by responsibility before God and before one another."

...the pope said during a speech at Bellevue Castle..."The Federal Republic of Germany has become what it is today thanks to the power of freedom shaped by responsibility before God and before one another."

It is clear that this man's first belief is freedom...freedom of rights, of religion, of lifestyle, etc.
It is clear that this man's secondary belief is "God as a religion" amongst other religions, of equal validity and rights.

Why does he not confess that Christ is the One and Only True Way of Life, that He is the Son of the Living and Only True God Creator, and that it will be this Christ that will rule the earth according to the One Truth of Our Father?

Why will he not deny publicly that there is no other "God"?
Why will he not reject universal interfaith values?

....as it is written...they will declare in word God to be Almighty but they will not love Him in their heart nor confess Him as the One and Only Truth.

There is and can be Only One Truth, One Creator, and One Way to Our Father....and this Way is Christ, the Savior, He who is Of Our God, From Our God, and With the True and Only God.

    • Down with the Catholic Church!

He deserves only punishment, incarceration, and death for his crimes against humanity.
The Catholic organization deserves to be abolished and obliterated for being a vicious criminal organization.
History shows that these criminals have been committing crimes against humanity for as long as they have been in existence.
gerald if I ever meet you prepare for death dont even respond to this I am not kidding.

How can a faith that CAUSED their misery play any role in easing it?

The answer is the one thing they wont do, which is to come clean about what they know, and take DEFINITIVE steps to see that it NEVER happens again.

The Boy scouts have never taught people to hate others and rat them out to the 'authorities', as well as prep their ranks for faithful service in the SS.

I never implied that it did.

You do of course understand that the VATICAN itself was allied with the Nazi's, was actually IN Axis territories, and was complicit in what happened in Europe?

    • Down with the Catholic Church!

I have no doubt that Uncouth Swain knows that already and is just following gerald's lead in trying to cover up Ratzinger's crimes. To knowingly cover up evil the way those two do is deserving of death. A horrible painful drawn-out death.

      September 22, 2011 at 5:46 pm |
    • Uncouth Swain

@William- "I never implied that it did. You do of course understand that the VATICAN itself was allied with the Nazi's, was actually IN Axis territories, and was complicit in what happened in Europe?"

Not to be too critical, you might want to put what you mean after a link then. I understand that the Vatican was completely surrounded by the Axis Powers and had no power to resist even if they wanted to. I will say that it would have been nicer to see a more strong resistence from the Vatican but let's be honest here...they had no physical way of resisting the Nazi.

As far as the Pope...he wasn't a Nazi. It's a lie that has been spoken for quite a long time.

      September 22, 2011 at 6:55 pm |
    • Uncouth Swain

@Mc-"The Boy scouts have never taught people to hate others and rat them out to the 'authorities', as well as prep their ranks for faithful service in the SS."

I have a feeling that the Boy Scouts of the 1930's would not have been so open to let Jews, Muslims or African-Americans in their ranks. No...of course the Boy Scouts didn't train them for the SS but did train them to be just as patriotic in the US as the Hitler Youth was to Germany. As for the "prep"....Hitler Youth didn't prep them for the SS. One might say it got them a background in a military style discipline but that too is co*mparable to the Boy Scouts.

@Down- "I have no doubt that Uncouth Swain knows that already and is just following gerald's lead in trying to cover up Ratzinger's crimes."

@Trobe- do you have any actual evidence for that which you claim?

      September 22, 2011 at 1:26 pm |
    • McJesus

There is plenty of evidence. That is why the Pope is currently under investigation by the international criminal court. The pope's own brother, as well as the Pope's adviser on these matters have also been implicated in child abuse cover-ups. A few 'bad seeds' isn't the problem. It is global and systemic. How does a believer perceive this? I am curious. How does an all powerful omnipotent god allow his holiest of representatives to -love- little children?

      September 22, 2011 at 2:49 pm |
    • Uncouth Swain

@Mc- "There is plenty of evidence."

Show any that connects this Pope directly to any crime. Being implicated isn't evidence of guilt. That's the same kind of thinking the supporters of Troy Davis's execution the other night have.

  9. Reality

    Nice summary of the RCC:

o “Now Rome which developed the Church of Dogma (rather than metanoia) dared to add things which have scant basis in scripture like the Trinity, Individual priesthood, Auricular Confession, Transubstantiation, Infallibility, Immaculate Conception and the Assumption. None of these are present in scripture not can they be deduced. Matthew 16:18 was discovered to apply to the papacy by Damasus I who had over a hundred of his rival's supporter's killed to gain the bishopric of Rome. It is after this time that the phrase from Matthew is more and more centered on Rome. The bishops of Rome committed many crimes. The biggest one was to ascribe their malfeasance to the Holy Spirit. Still is.”

@William, you Germans killed countless children under the trees before Christianity educated you to stop it. You used to worship the dark forest like American Indians did and did all the horrible things to each other. Just like the rest of Europe, Germans were barbaric before converting to Christianity. German became great through Lutheranism. His translation of the Bible created, polished and developed the German language. Christianity is the only true religion. Your atheism is the worst cult.

@ mathilda : Try reading something other than the Bible and learn something. Check out Hitlers writings. Check out transcripts of speeches he made. He without a doubt was a Roman Catholic. He without a doubt drew his inspiration and hatred of the Jews from Christianity. Read a bit. Then think. Its called e-d-u-c-a-t-i-o-n. 11. Colin

Look at him staring at the little children. Is that a look of lust on his face?

    September 22, 2011 at 10:45 am |
  12. Colin

Ten signs you are a Catholic.

    1. You believe that the pope has personal conversations with God (that nobody else ever hears) and is infallible when he elects to speak “from the chair” on matters of Church doctrine. You then wistfully ignore the fact that Church doctrine changes and that former popes therefore could not possibly have been “infallible”. Limbo, for example, was touted by pope after pope as a place where un-baptized babies who die go, until Pope Benedict XVI just eradicated it (or, more accurately, so watered it down as effectively eradicate it in a face saving way). Seems all those earlier “infallible” Popes were wrong – as they were on Adam and Eve v. evolution, heliocentricity v. geocentricity, immaculate conception, and a host of other issues that required an amendment of official Church doctrine. You also ignore the innumerable murders, rampant corruption and other crimes committed over the centuries by your “infallible”, god-conversing popes.

    2. You reject the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours. You are blissfully (or intentionally) blind to the fact, that had you been born in another part of the World, you would be defending the local god(s) and heralding the incorrectness of Catholic beliefs.

    3. You begrudgingly accept evolution (about a century after Darwin proved it and after accepting Genesis as literally true for about 2,000 years) and that Adam and Eve was totally made up, but then conveniently ignore that fact that your justification for Jesus dying on the cross (to save us from Original Sin) has therefore been eviscerated. Official Church literature still dictates a belief in this nonsense.

    4. You disdain native beliefs as “polytheist” and somehow “inferior” but cannot explain (i) why being polytheistic is any sillier than being monotheistic. Once you make the quantum leap into Wonderland by believing in sky-fairies, what difference does if make if you believe in one or many?; nor (ii) why Christians believe they are monotheistic, given that they believe in god, the devil, guardian angels, the holy spirit, Jesus, many demons in hell, the Virgin Mary, the angel Gabriel, thousands of saints, all of whom apparently make Earthly appearances periodically, and all of whom inhabit their life-after-death lands with magic-sacred powers of some kind.

    5. You bemoan the "atrocities" attributed to Allah, but you don`t even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in "Exodus" and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in "Joshua" including women, children, and trees or the 3,000 Israelites killed by Moses for worshipping the golden calf (or the dozen or so other slaughters condoned by the bible). You also like to look to god to for guidance in raising your children, ignoring the fact that he drowned his own – according to your Bible.

    6. You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that God impregnated Mary with himself, to give birth to himself, so he could sacrifice himself to himself to “forgive” an ”Original Sin” that we now all know never happened.

    7. You criticize gays as sinners, but have no problem when Lot got drunk and committed father-daughter in.cest (twice) or offered his daughters to a mob to be gang ra.ped, or when biblical " heros", time and again, offered their wives up like cattle to save their own skin.

    8. You believe that your god will cause anyone who does not accept your Bronze Age stories to suffer a penalty an infinite times worse than the death penalty (burning forever in excruciating torture) simply because of their healthy skepticism, yet maintain that god “loves them”.

    9. You will totally reject any scientific breakthrough that is inconsistent with your established doctrine, unless and until it is so generally accepted as to back you into a corner. While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you of the deep inanity of your silly faith, some priest doing magic hand signals over bread and wine is enough to convince you it is thereby transformed into the flesh and blood of Jesus because of the priest’s magic powers (or “sacred powers” to the extent you see a difference).

    10. You define 0.01% as a "high success rate" when it comes to Lourdes, Fátima and other magic places and prayers in general. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. The remaining 99.99% failure was simply “god moving in mysterious ways”. The fact that, if you ask for something repeatedly, over and over, year after year, sooner or later that thing is bound to happen anyway, has not even occurred to you. A stopped clock is right twice a day.

    11. You accept the stories in the Bible without question, despite not having the slightest idea of who actually wrote them, how credible these people were or how long the stories were written after the alleged events they record occurred. For example, it is impossible for Moses to have written the first five books of the Old Testament, as Catholics believe. For one, they record his death and events after his death. In fact, the chance of the Bible being historically accurate in any but the broadest terms is vanishingly small.

Heavens, I could not fit them into ten.

Funny, Colin is an expert on Catholicism but can't do Math very well. He thinks 11 is ten. :). Of course when your "truth" is relativism, I suppose that is perfectly fine. I'm not the slightest bit outraged by your denial of God Colin. I feel sorry for you is all. Maybe you should change that to "they feel sorry for those who don't believe in God" and I don't in the slightest feel begrudged about evolution and fully accept Micro Evolution. I am fine with macro as a theory but it is far from proven. I could go through the other 9 but you keep posting this tripe as if you have a point even when it is refuted.

I feel no outrage when others do not believe in my faith. Your as*sumptions are incorrect. You have no evidence to support the notion that environment makes one believe a certain way. I was raised by athiests/non-religious and consider myself of the Christian faith. You need to review the story again. You will see it was his daughters that had a little bit more to do with Lot being the way he was.
As for the offering his two daughters...you need to realize the culture of the time. This had nothing to do with religion but everything to do with protecting one's guests. When you had a guest in your home, you were responsible for their care. If that meant sacrificing your livilihood...you did. Sacrifice family members...you did. Your own life...you did. Even today in the Middle East it is a great honor to be welcomed into a home. It's not like here in the Western World were most would dump the guests out the door to save their own skins.

First...being from the Bronze Age, Iron Age, Computer Age..etc does not make anything more or less correct.
As for the theology, if one believes God basically owns all...God may do as he sees fit with his creation, whether human morality agrees or not.

ill never take a christian seriously unless it proves that its god exists

but theres about as many muslims as christians so if one outnumbers the other does that mean that groups god is real

the religion with the most followers surely must be the right one

christianity used to not exist at all

so i guess all those people before jesus lied to everyone went to the fire pit

@TA- when a blanket statement or statements are made that are incorrect, I will point out what is wrong. I am sorry you have a problem with the truth and facts. I guess you think ppl should just stand by and be generalized. Am I wrong?

    • Uncouth Swain

@TBN- "swain has yet to prove that his god exists"

      ~Haven't tried. Why would I?

"he tries to act intelligent but he cant explain all of the inconsistencies and lies in his bible"

~Haven't tried...no one asked any in peticular. If you read anything I wrote you would note I am not a literalist.

"like a good little sheep it ignores these things"

~Again..if you actually read what I wrote instead of bleating you will see I did not ignore anything.

"ill never take a christian seriously unless it proves that its god exists"

~Then you are quite closed minded. I can't believe you on anything till you show me that anyone in the world loves you. How rational would that stance be?

"but theres about as many muslims as christians so if one outnumbers the other does that mean that groups god is real"

~As in science...group-think does not justify faith

"christianity used to not exist at all"

~Duh...but the worship of God did.

"so i guess all those people before jesus lied to everyone went to the fire pit"

~Oy...plz do some research. Heck...check out Dante's Inforno for a 1300's religious view on the topic

Pope Benedict XVI = the best honor and star of Germany
I hope China or Brazil can get the next honor.

"the best honor and star of Germany", uh, right, just like that other Catholic, Hitler.

Don't insult Germans. Germans are a lot better than you.

Germans are truly great. They are intelligent, disciplined and good-looking. Their language sounds cool. They admitted their past sins. If only they don't persecute the Evangelicals or keep the filthy liberal theology, they could rule the world better than Americans or the Chinese.

I seem to recall the last two times they tried that.

I believe we killed about 18 million of them.

Germans can still try to be #1 only if she has sound Christian doctrines and a purpose to liberate everyone like USA does. Losing so many men 6 decades ago, she is still feeding Europe.

William Demuth, who is the WE you posted about. If you are talking about courageous service men and women, then you'd be speaking truth.

      Amen.

"About 6,000 police officers are securing the visit, authorities told CNN."

lol...funny how he depends on MAN to protect him...where's his god now?

I have always though that fact alone was proof there is no god. Why can't an all powerful superhero even protect his second in command.

i thought satan was second in command

Now is the chance for Germany to regain some honor.

Reject him. Boycott him. Picket him.

      Arrest him?

      September 22, 2011 at 8:24 am |
    • William Demuth

      Jim

I ended where I did because it is illegal to call for the assasination of a world leader.

      September 22, 2011 at 8:46 am |
    • hippypoet

you know the only difference between murder and assasination is social status... if your a nobody, then its murder, if your anyone who social importantance, then its assasination! i think words place value that need not be there... the pope is a person who can die, like the rest of us... its murder...besides – this dude has it coming!

    • Down with the Catholic Church!

The Catholic Church needs to be destroyed. Obliterated. It is a cesspool of evil. Any kindly folk who are members should distance themselves as far away as possible and find rational reasons to be nice.
History clearly shows the evil that is built into the Catholic Church. It should be destroyed in the name of humanity!

@Down with the Catholic Church!- Your crazy opinion has been noted. You may return to your streetconer with your cardboard sign now and continue your rants there.

@TBN- if you actually ever read anything, you would notice that many of my views are not that of a typical Christian. But plz..keep on being ignorant. We wouldn't want you to hurt your head and challenege your own notions.

Those 6000 polizei should be arresting him, not proecting him.

God loves everyone, and so do his holiest of representatives. That is why they LOVE children so DEEPLY. So much so that they reveal their holy staff and anoint the children in .. uhh.. oil.
