Not clocking out for break is classified as theft. Doesn't matter if it was a lunch break, bathroom break, or prayer break. You were not working during those hours. You should not be paid for those hours.

You are wiser of all with your simple logic and reason... A theft is a theft never matter whether was to feed one's self or one's God...so whether it was before or after the circular since this is the just and fair for both employees and employers, it is not right to steal paid times (Minutes or hours or days)..! Although many will steal it sitting down on their desks making private calls,chats,browse...and some by off/on line games...playing cards..
We have a saying goes as " If I am a Prince and you are a Prince, then who will lead drive the donkeys?". I meant to say by that..."If all humans are hooked on the Internet what ever was their addiction to on/off line... Then we are no longer live in our real world but rather a world of our own with imaginary friends such as we have here in this religion blogs throwing our breaths of time for nothing concrete that would reward us during life and after life... I just pray to GOD the merciful to make my efforts no waste and be rewardable in my life and after life...or guide me to the best of that.Amen.

Her fellow villagers in Bangladesh's Shariatpur district had already passed harsh judgment on her. Guilty, they said, of having an affair with a married man. The imam from the local mosque ordered the fatwa, or religious ruling, and the punishment: 101 lashes delivered swiftly, deliberately in public. Hena dropped after 70 and died a week later.

Mankind with as little science he got to get to the first heaven surrounding earth and already he claims God does not exist...the heavens are seven heavens and we have not got half the way and already rejecting the existance ....!?

And your god is one God. There is no deity [worthy of worship] except Him, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. 2:163

Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and earth, and the alternation of the night and the day, and the [great] ships which sail through the sea with that which benefits people, and what Allah has sent down from the heavens of rain, giving life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness and dispersing therein every [kind of] moving creature, and [His] directing of the winds and the clouds controlled between the heaven and the earth are signs for a people who use reason. 2:164

It is Allah who has created seven heavens and of the earth, the like of them. [His] command descends among them so you may know that Allah is over all things competent and that Allah has encompassed all things in knowledge. 65:12
Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller calling to faith, [saying], 'Believe in your Lord,' and we have believed. Our Lord, so forgive us our sins and remove from us our misdeeds and cause us to die with the righteous. 3:193

Our Lord, and grant us what You promised us through Your messengers and do not disgrace us on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, You do not fail in [Your] promise." 3:194

And Noah said, "My Lord, do not leave upon the earth from among the disbelievers an inhabitant. 71:26

Indeed, if You leave them, they will mislead Your servants and not beget except [every] wicked one and [confirmed] disbeliever. 71:27

My Lord, forgive me and my parents and whoever enters my house a believer and the believing men and believing women. And do not increase the wrongdoers except in destruction." 71:28

I am Muslim, and I agree with Hertz: If the policy said that they had to begin clocking out to go on any breaks, then so be it. That is the rule, and if you want the job then you have to abide by that. I have to make up my afternoon prayer because I have no where to offer it where I work. At my old job I did, and it was fine, and none of my supervisors had a problem with me taking a few minutes of the day to offer my prayer. Until I either find another job that allows me to time to offer prayers, then I will just have to make up the missed one when I get home. Allah (swt) is oft-forgiving and most merciful.

Oh boo hoo cry me a river.
Your employer doesn't pay you to pray, they pay you to work.
You didn't clock out for your personal time as you know you must too bad.
Now you're trying to find sympathy, for you breaking the rules. Like they shouldn't apply to you for some reason. Time to fire up the ol resueme and remember to clock the efF out next time.

Speaking as an atheist, this is the real world lady. You work a real job. If any person of any other religion tries to pull the same thing, they should also be fired. This is REALITY. You can think on your own time. Heck, what stopped you from thinking? You can't think while you work? Ok, I'm going to stop before I go on a tangent.

  9. EgoSumLamia

Stupid. I am all for freedom of Religion, I am Pagan. But expecting to be paid, to stop work 5 times a day, to pray is ridiculous. If Hertz agreed to that then they are stupid. You get what you pay for, should have hired Americans.

    October 25, 2011 at 3:58 pm |
    • Mark from Middle River

While I agree with you that everyone should have to clock out ..... You said

      >>>"You get what you pay for, should have hired Americans."

I know a few Muslims that were not only born here, their lineage goes back Islamic and American. Being American does not mean you can not be a Muslim as well.

What dose being "Pagan have any thing to do with breaks or prayers ? If you want to pray 5 times a day fine =, no problem !!! I don't care. Just do it on your own dime ! Why should any company be expected to pay an employees praying time ? You get two breaks a day and one meal time. Breaks = 10 min each and meal = 1/2 hr min period, no clock out needed for break times. observe 10 min break time. not 11 or 12 min, back at your work station in 10 min not 11 or 12. if you abuse you are history. Same for meal ! The people who want Hertz to roll over to there demands. Good buy, good riddance, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. No way can you give them any more or less. If you do they will be telling you soon how to run your company so it pleases them !!!!!

“What dose being "Pagan have any thing to do with breaks or prayers”

It doesn’t and his/her statement doesn’t imply otherwise. It was clearly pointed as the commenter is also religious (as in not an atheist) and also not commenting out of a historical bias (such as a Christian would and often does). A little critical thinking would do you wonders.

You liberals are your own worst enemy. Like Wynn said: there will be no jobs so long as liberals destroy companies. Even Steve Jobs said that (and he is liberal like Wynn). This "recession" will be worse next year and even worse in 2013 .. and even worse in 2014. More and more companies will close and you unemployed liberals will be living in tents. It's simple arithmetic.

    October 25, 2011 at 11:15 am |
    • Liberals suck. Conservatives suck worse.

Yes, the Bush recession has been hard, and the conservatives have so desperately wanted it to get worse. They can't get elected on their ideas – they have none. They can only get their by chumming fear and hate.

Conservatives WANT America to fail so that they can get power – even though most conservative voters suffer in that scenarion. That's the weird thing: most conservatives are aggressively supporting an approach that does not personally benefit them.

      October 25, 2011 at 12:00 pm |
    • dg

This is what astounds me.. that so many conservatives support policies and candidates that will not benefit them and will actually cost them more in the long run. They are also ignorant and don't realize the difficulties of unemployment, no jobs available, the future of possibly retiring slipping away, an ever decreasing paycheck and loss of benefits while execs and stockholders continue to make money and the ever increasing gap between the haves and have nots gets larger and larger.

11 ways to have a Calm and Peaceful Mind

The fast pace of the modern world may put our mind in chaotic state. Information comes and goes, we must do this and do that. There are simply too many things that reside in our mind. While it may cause stress or even depression, at the very least it puts us away from a peaceful state of mind. But a peaceful mind is essential for our effectiveness. It keeps us calm no matter how the situation is, and it allows us to stay joyful during the day. At the end of the day, it makes us happier and more productive.
So here I’d like to share 11 ways to have a “mind like water”, a state of mind so peaceful that it’s like a calm water. Pick the ones that work for you:

      October 25, 2011 at 9:54 am |
  13. Reality

From p. 1 and only for our sister and brother Muslims:

How she can get her job back in less than two minutes or how to prevent it from happening again:

The Five Steps To Deprogram 1400 Years of Islamic Myths:
( –The Steps take less than two minutes to finish- simply amazing, two minutes to bring peace and rationality to over one billion lost souls- Priceless!!!)

    Are you ready?

Using "The 77 Branches of Islamic "faith" a collection compiled by Imam Bayhaqi as a starting point. In it, he explains the essential virtues that reflect true "faith" (iman) through related Qur’anic verses and Prophetic sayings." i.e. a nice summary of the Koran and Islamic beliefs.

The First Five of the 77 Branches:

    "1. Belief in Allah"

aka as God, Yahweh, Zeus, Jehovah, Mother Nature, etc. should be added to your cleansing neurons.

"2. To believe that everything other than Allah was non-existent. Thereafter, Allah Most High created these things and subsequently they came into existence."

Evolution and the Big Bang or the "Gi-b G-nab" (when the universe starts to recycle) are more plausible and the "akas" for Allah should be included if you continue to be a "crea-tionist".

"3. To believe in the existence of angels."

A major item for neuron cleansing. Angels/de-vils are the mythical creations of ancient civilizations, e.g. Hitt-ites, to explain/define natural events, contacts with their gods, big birds, sudden winds, protectors during the dark nights, etc. No "pretty/ug-ly wingy thingies" ever visited or talked to Mohammed, Jesus, Mary or Joseph or Joe Smith. Today we would classify angels as f–airies and "tin–ker be-lls". Modern de-vils are classified as the de-mons of the de-mented.

"4. To believe that all the heavenly books that were sent to the different prophets are true. However, apart from the Quran, all other books are not valid anymore."

Another major item to delete. There are no books written in the spirit state of Heaven (if there is one) just as there are no angels to write/publish/distribute them. The Koran, OT, NT etc. are simply books written by humans for humans.

Prophets were invented by ancient scribes typically to keep the un-educated masses in line. Today we call them for-tune tellers.

Prophecies are also invali-dated by the natural/God/Allah gifts of Free Will and Future.

"5. To believe that all the prophets are true. However, we are commanded to follow the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) alone."

Mohammed spent thirty days "fasting" (the Ramadan legend) in a hot cave before his first contact with Allah aka God etc. via a "pretty wingy thingy". Common sense demands a neuron deletion of #5. #5 is also the major source of Islamic vi-olence i.e. turning Mohammed's "fast, hunger-driven" hallu-cinations into horrible reality for unbelievers.

Walk these Five Steps and we guarantee a complete recovery from your Islamic ways!!!!

Unfortunately, there are not many Muslim commentators/readers on this blog so the "two-minute" cure is not getting to those who need it. If you have a Muslim friend, send him a copy and help save the world.

Analogous steps are available at your request for deprogramming the myths of Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Paganism..

To me, this is more about a company disregarding their contract with the workers. The religion aspect just sensationalizes things and keeps people from focusing on the bigger picture of a company's noncompliance with what they originally agreed upon.

The Protestant work ethic is based upon the notion of the necessity for hard work as a component of worldly success. Hard work and frugality were thought to be two important consequences of being American Protestants were attracted to these qualities, not Moslems and not Jews nor atheists either. To them a good scam can get you a bigger house and a better address. That is why we have RICO. Think about it.

She should do it on her own time, just like everyone else. I don't want to pay for her to pray to her god who tells her to kill all non-Muslims. She can do it on her lunch hour or her breaks. Why does she need to stop work to do it? And also, she can do it silently at any time she wants. Muslims need to quit asking for special treatment. If they want to live in the U.S. they need to act like Americans. Quit asking for special treatment. And besides, what special treatment do they give to non Muslims living in Muslim countries?Ever looked into that? I know what they do. They burn all the churches and kill them. Do your research.

Diva, you aren't making any sense. The koran does instruct muslims to kill. Something tells me you've never done any actual research. Were you aware that the koran gives instruction to men to beat their wives if they are disobedient? Look it up. I suggest you do some research before you accuse someone of not knowing what they're talking about. Your opinion is incorrect.

GOV’T AGENT: “I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them.”
RANCHER: ”Well, there’s my hired hand who’s been with me for 3 years. I pay him $200 a week plus free room and board.

Then there’s the mentally challenged guy. He works about 18 hours every day and does about 90% of all the work around here.
He makes about $10 per week, pays his own room and board, and I buy him a bottle of bourbon every Saturday night so he can cope with life.
He also sleeps with my wife occasionally.”

Well, it is clear that those railing against Islam and the behaviors of Muslims, in general,
      1. Have forgotten about the Crusades (thank you Pope Urban II, among others) and those that were slaughtered on the way to Isreal,
      2. you really have spent any time in Muslim countries of Central Asia and the Mediterranean.

      Ignorance abounds.

I agree she should pray on her lunch breaks. Yet being islamic she has to "make prayer" five times a day. On Friday she needs to observe Jumah. If she wants to pray let her but make her do it off the clock. Christians pray in their heads or wait until they are away from work. She has a right to practice her religion but if it interferes with her job maybe she should find another job. May people do not understand much about the Islamic religion. If you place a Koran on the floor you are interfering with the islamic civil rights. Take a Bible do what you want to it and oh well its just another book.
